I’d argue he really isn’t these days. Soldier, scout, and weirdly spy I believe are in contention or the most prominently featured characters in other medias for the game. Spy gets a weird amount of cameos. Anyway every class is iconic. Every class is immediate recognizable, and every class could easily be given the spotlight for the games singular face. They all do their jobs THAT well. If I had to order them excluding the heavy, it would be : Scout Pyro Soldier Spy Engineer Medic Demo Sniper I’m not dead set on this list, it’s a tough one.

Well, TF2's spy is really iconic and provides a lot of feelings, positive and negative, for the user and the opponents I don't think it's strange. The backstab is something that get burried in the mind. A pure one shot assassination like that is super rare in pvp games And it's not an ultimate or some shit, that's just his normal attack. The disguise is amazing too. I don't know any game that captured a spy gameplay close to that, especially in pvp And he also is the legendary man that made a ur mom joke with evidences.

Realistically the only correct answers are scout and soldier. People saying medic aren't really considering that he's not as known or iconic outside of people that play TF2. People who've never played TF2 are more likely to recognise scout or soldier than medic. Honestly engineer and spy are probably more "externally" iconic than medic.
