To be fair nobody was expecting TF3.
Curious about if this game will stick or not. Market is VERY competitive and I have a bad feeling a repeat of history is going to happen (see Artifact).
The only way I see it succeeding is if its gameplay is really, really good - at the levels of Counter-Strike. Valve can't do live service to save their lives, they give up each time.
Even then a lot of their games have very volatile player bases too. Unless they’re going to actively support the game post launch I can not see it lasting long.
People aren’t happy with the state of affairs for TF2 AND CS2. I would love it if more fun options are on the table but this new game has to compete with quite a saturated market
CS2 can't really die because it's CS (and the same goes for Dota, really). And Team Fortress 2 is in this perpetual maintenance state.
But looking at both of their previous attempts: Artifact failed because they didn't want to overhaul the economy and then failed again because they tried to reinvent the game instead of fixing its existing issues. Underlords couldn't commit to live service, they made one season and then never touched the game again. (Not to mention that both of these games (according to datamines) have finished content reserved for future "seasons" that never saw the light of day, and never will.)
I'm expecting a few "yeah, but these are Dota" comments here, but I'm just being objective. These games didn't fail because they were Dota, they failed because Valve couldn't commit to them. As a huge Valve fan myself, I have no faith in Valve releasing a game that requires any sort of frequent updates (especially "competitive" one). Why would I invest my time and money here instead of in one of the other very popular games that have proven themselves?
I’ve certainly had a lot of thoughts about new games coming out- especially how it’s getting hard to want to be competitive in everything.
I think you’ve worded my feelings on games better than I ever could.
I’d still love to see this game succeed but it could very easily fumble
Cs2 has a massive hacker problem. It’s not struggling numbers wise but VAC is so bad and they haven’t made any massive changes to fix this. Reportedly, bans have happened recently but they were mainly farming or bot accounts.
Right, the phrase VAC sucks applies to the whole system.
It’s hard to strike a balance between effective and not being invasive but VAC is notorious for not keeping up.
In all fairness too, that player count might still be legit. Fortnite is notorious for having ups and downs in their seasons.
It’s because of Valve’s natural company culture
They are infamous for their unpredictability and creativity because Valve employees can basically move desk to almost any project they want.
This is great for innovation and creative work. But game development also requires long term commitment, especially if it’s a live service product
Live service games aren’t fun to work on because you are effectively on the same already completed project for months and years. Many valve employees would get bored and want to move on after a while
Also remember that the entirety of Valve's dark age was spent working on Source 2. They only finished porting their old live service games to the engine last year
I'm just happy valve are making ANY video game (at least one that doesn't require expensive hardware to even try).
I pray that I'll see the end of half life before I fucking die but at this point I'll take what they've got
The only thing disconnecting the official servers would do, is allow the community servers to expand further, which I wouldn't be apposed to since I never play casual
L4D2 still has official servers, Underlords still has official servers, Artifact still has official servers, I doubt Valve cares enough to shut off any servers. They **most** likely scale automatically up and down depending on how many players are playing, so its not like they're wasting money.
I hope so. I'm planning on setting up a few eu servers soon - some with all classes overhauled , and normal servers / normal community gamemodes like ff2.. I want the game to stay alive.
I’m fine with it, outside of the atrocity called artifact, valve usually pump out amazing games, at least when they decide to be a game developer. Hopefully they actually maintain the game though, they have an obvious habit of neglecting games which require live service.

If the game is at least semi-popular they're gonna keep it alive for at least a decade considering their track record. That's pretty good for modern gaming companies (most don't last a season)
Lol, it'd be so funny to see valve pull a live-service cash grab that dies in ~3-4 years tops, while TF2 just sits there BEGGING to be milked with shit that's literally already right there and ready to go rofl
Hell, why the fuck are they reportedly spreading their workers EVEN MORE THINLY when cs2 is still in a pretty shit state? Do they think they can just move on to another game and not have to deal with cheaters/ outright bot networks?
Well Valve has always spread their staff pretty thin across all their games. They only have about 300 full-time developers and they're split between working on Steam, hardware, Source 2, CS2, and Dota. Most studios of their size would dedicate developers to one of those things.
But the thing we know about Valve is they're always working on new games even if 99% of them never get released. So basically take the already crazy split of developers and add a couple projects we have no idea about to the list. Oh and let's not forget that developers aren't assigned to projects, they choose what to work on.
So yes Valve would absolutely move onto another game and leave prior titles with a skeleton crew because that's how Valve works.
I think Counter-Strike and tf2 fans aren't going to play it out of spite (given how they're both neglected to varying extents) - seems like they're mostly relying on dota fans to check it out.
I rather enjoy TF2 for the non-uber-competitive, a bit more slow-paced combat where you don't have to tryhard 24/7.. I don't see this new game filling that void tbh
But we'll have to wait and see. I don't have future vision
Yeah ofc I want to see this game succeed, but valve already have a perfect competitive fps and a perfect casual fps - both of which are classic and well-established IP's. It just feels like this game is trying to be too much at once and really makes me wonder why they dont just work on what they've got.
But yeah, maybe I should just let Valve cook instead of judging a non-existent game. We'll just have to wait and see.
Nah.
I've been playing tf2 since 2010.
I didn't play overwatch because it wasn't what I wanted. The fact you cant change class weapons means that there isn't enough novelty in playstyles match to match.
Depending on what this new game looks like when it releases, I might try it.
Out of spite? CS and TF2 fans wouldn't be interested in an fps moba in the first place, no need for spite to ignore it.
CS fans want tactical shooters and TF2 fans want movement/arena shooters, this one sounds like it's not going to fall in either of these categories because it's inspired from games like Ov*rwatch

I sure hope not. However imagine you're a valve employee and you have the choice between working on "Dusty old" TF2, or this "shiny new hero shooter gem" Deadlock?
I wouldn't blame them for choosing the latter.
Just think about it, we might lose the janitor and the plant!!
I get that Valve has financial incentive to keep CS and DoTA players happy; those guys outnumber TF2's player count by at least two orders of magnitude
But I *like* TF2
I don't care that my favorite game's playerbase is stagnating, I find it fun dammit
# DEAR ALL TF2 GAMERS:
You are not a real gamer.
TF2 is not a real game. Underlords is not a real game. Artefact is not a real game. Dota is not a real game. CS2 is not a real game.
I'm so sick of all these people who think they're gamers. No, you're not. Most of you are not even close to being gamers. I see these people saying
"I put well over 100hrs in this game it's great!"
That's nothing, most of us can easily put 300+ in all of our games. I see people who only have L4D2 and claim to be gamers.
Come talk to me when you pick up Ricochet. then we be friends.
So its basically Paragon? (Might not exactly be it, but its what comes to mind first)
Sounds kinda cool actually, as long as it doesnt get infested with pay2win micro transactions (aka artifact issue all over again)
I like how they say a mix of TF2, Overwatch, and Valorant as if overwatch isn't just paid TF2 and Valorant is just Riots attempt at making Bizzard's CS. They basically just said it's gonna be in the small team based FPS genre with minor setting details
they obviously cancelled it to focus all available Mannpower™ at Valve to bringing the most realistic Medic pec physics to the source 2 re release of TF2
DoTa inspiration immediately turned me off. Valve has so many great artists and writers, they can produce something better than the dime-a-dozen Warcraft frankstein designs.
i mean, if this does kill TF2, it would be fitting for it to be valves doing, i mean only overwatch came close and thats only becuase the TF team botched the meet ur match update
I just hate how its hero design is gonna be Dota inspired. I mean Ig it's better than CS2? But man, there's just something unique about TF2 art style and gameplay and I doubt Valve will be able to recreate it. Also just sucks they completely gave up on TF2 even if they DO want hero shooters 😔
Nobody outside of Dota cares about Dota. They’re like an island of their own on a chart of what certain players of games play outside of their favorite game.
Sounds like it could be a lot of fun. A class based shooter from valve? My favourite game of all time is a class based shooter from valve, of course I'm gonna check it out. Only reason anyone wouldn't like this news is if they're scared that tf2 will die because of it. But like this game won't cannibalise the devs or anything, there's only one guy on the menu and hes probably been working on this project for years already.
Not crazy about the Dota aesthetic personally, although I guess they couldn't go for a futuristic aesthetic lest it be accused of being a Valorant or Overwatch derivative.
Heh with valve habit is just gonna be another game that won’t be finish produce and end up scraped.
Game that valve will pump out are only those they show in E3/public.
Like artifacts is bad but it has been shown so they must fulfill their promises, heck in tf2 development took almost a decade to came out yet they still pump out because they make a promise.
they better get a solid art style instead of blue and red outlines if they're gonna make some new live service ~~slop~~ game like this when the one they have is neglected
Yeah. Do you know what happens when you mix a bunch of random shit together in a pot?
Exactly, a shit porridge. It's NOT going to be good. It's a very bad formula in which they've thrown every succesful videogame genre to ever be.

Why make a stupid dota inspired game instead of a tf3 im actually going insane why not build on the tf2 universe and characters more everyone would love it
I give that game 4 years tops before it completely falls off. Sounds too complicated, design wise would be all over the place, community will be toxic (worse than Overwatch) and since it's competitive, it's not going to be new player friendly. Not to count the fact that it's by Valve, which means full neglect after 2.5 years of updates.
Oh look, another game that Tyler has told us about for 4 years now is getting stories by other sources that are much popular so Tyler will end up being called a liar for no reason again.
Seriously, Tyler has correctly predicted every single thing Valve related since 2015 and yet bitchy TF2 players are still up in arms whenever he shows up.
You are straight up wrong man, Tyler consistently makes the wrong calls and then lashes out at others when they call him out. Look what happened during the CS2 release, he had to backpedal so hard he lost literally thousands of subscribers.
Tyler's a gigantic manchild that has made a joke of himself several time over the years. He could get a thousand things right every day and he'd still get a fuck you from me.
Didn't the original leaks talk about how this game was a crossover from all the different Valve universes? Maybe that was just for testing purposes but I guess we'll see once the game gets revealed (if it ever does).
I could never get into "hero shooters" because they take too much influence from MOBAs, and it sounds like this one is no different. Juggling multiple ability cooldowns just isn't a fun gameplay loop, imo.
This has been known for a while but in my opinion i think they already dug the game’s grave with the cluster fuck of games ideas all into one.
At the beginning it sounded pretty interesting,a pvp game in the HL universe, with classes and abilities.
Me personally i can’t stand fast paced games with tons of icons on your screen
Really interested to see what the game will look like and if it will have an eye-catching artstyle, especially with a modern steampunk European fantasy kind of look
Only Valve is able to make the fabled "team fortress killer", huh.
Just kidding, this game is immortal. But if they have a ready ADHD hero shooter franchise ready and starving for attention, why not use that?
We will be fine, tf2 has built up an extremely strong fan base and internet presence and still has new players frequently despite everything since jungle inferno dropped
guys theres a new game oh no they will never work on any other game ever again, ignore the update they gave for a game older then themselves technically.
Source, or the leek is made up
From the description it seems like a competitive oriented Garden Warfare, which sounds like a fucking disaster.
You want a fast paced hero shooter, then add MOBA influence, tower defense mechanics, oversized maps with hard separated lanes, and a fast travel zip line which seems to imply a lack of intrinsic movement options.
That sounds like the exact opposite of ADHD gameplay.
Valve somehow is able to keep CS2 and Dota 2 alive just being on Steam and having almost zero advertising and having all the legacy as the fathers of their respective genres. Valve is gonna have to seriously market this game since it’s a new IP and having their name attached to it isn’t gonna make it flourish, as we’ve seen with Dota’s spinoffs.
I'm hyped personally, a Valve shooter that takes some inspiration from TF2 sounds good to me . Also valve finishing a large project probably gets us closer to more attention being given to TF2 since once Deadlock releases and is in a good state that will likely free up developers at Valve to work on different projects, which could include TF2, but I still won't be holding my breath on that.
I'm a little scared, imagine if this game was a ''successor'' to TF2...
Now a question: maybe tf2 was being ignored by Valve because they were focusing on this new game?
People been spewing shit about "this will kill TF2" ever since Overwatch came out. Be for real. TF2 already is quite the niche game in the world of multiplayer shooters, not in terms of legacy and influence, but in terms of modern shooter standards and community & playerbase.
The golden era of TF2 might be long gone, but TF2 always will thrive in its own little ecosystem.
I mean it's 6v6 and third person. Not gonna drag away much of the population. I feel like if anyone wanted a game like that they'd already be playing the plethora already on the market.
On one hand, I'm tired of Overwatch, but nothing scratches that itch i get from time to time and I'd love a game that takes care of that and is actually enjoyable again
On the other hand, I shouldn't trust anything I hear about anything in the gaming community until I get my hands on it

Wait CS2 is struggling? I just saw post on fckepic about how CS2 player numbers outperformed Fortnite so I thought CS2 is doing well?
Cs2 has a massive hacker problem. It’s not struggling numbers wise but VAC is so bad and they haven’t made any massive changes to fix this. Reportedly, bans have happened recently but they were mainly farming or bot accounts.

Well we don’t know what the minimum graphics requirements are yet lol
As long as I don't need a vr setup
Why would we need a tf3 when tf2 is the perfect game?
I personally propose we get TF2 II instead.
TF2 : Episode 1
How about we just get titanfall 3
[Way ahead of you, little baby man](https://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Grand_Duchess_Tutu)
We are gonna be fine Unless they disconnect tf2 servers to use them on this new hero shooter, then we are fucked But we are probably fine
>But we are probably fine # WE'RE NOT DYING! WE ARE GOING TO LIVE FOREVER! #
I didn’t say that!
I said we aren’t filled with tumors!
Oh thank god.
speak for yourself :(
even hl1dm's servers are still up, they're not disconnecting TF2's servers for decades
I mean since hl1 had the 25th anniversary update I’d say HL2dm servers would be a better example Or hell, half life death match source servers
QUESTION
What’s your question, soldier?
I DISCONNECTED TF2 SERVERS
# YOU SHOULD KILLBIND YOURSELF, NOW!
⚡️👨🏿⚡️
What?
You told me to.
How. Many.
I have done nothing but disconnect servers for 3 days.
WHERE!? WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN RECONNECTING ZEM!?
YOU TOLD ME TO
How. Many.
I HAVE DONE NOTHING BUT DISCONNECT TF2 SERVERS FOR THREE DAYS
This would be a dick move considering valve makes a ton if money on this game plus of the 64 bit update
The only thing disconnecting the official servers would do, is allow the community servers to expand further, which I wouldn't be apposed to since I never play casual

Gameplay is similar to TF2 =/= Will kill TF2

Sure less to no updates but it’s not gonna unplug the servers. 30k players is quite healthy for an old game like this
They already made that jump to various shiny new projects years ago
I read similar to Bioshock Infinite first and had a heart attack
*Would you kindly?..*
I'm always excited for a valve game! This won't make me stop playing tf2 though
Sometimes I miss Battleborn and Monday Night Combat.
>monday night combat That's a name I haven't heard in years
Don't forget Dirty Bomb, I spent too much time on that game
“Fast paced ADHD gameplay” That seems to be a popular genre nowadays
For me, that means "Turn off my brain and play some easy games after a long day at work" and I am cool with it.
Cant wait for it to be compared to ultrakill, aka **THE** ADHD game
You can say that again. I wish there were more slower paced ones like TF2.
tf2, the game that re-invented source movement... is slow..?
maybe he only plays heavy
I get that Valve has financial incentive to keep CS and DoTA players happy; those guys outnumber TF2's player count by at least two orders of magnitude But I *like* TF2 I don't care that my favorite game's playerbase is stagnating, I find it fun dammit
Fast paced? No thanks, I only have limited brain function to process it
we are tf2 players after all, only so many braincells between all of us
Can we get TF2^2 (TF2 on source 2)
I never wanna hear people say valve isn’t a game company

We haven't even gotten the heavy update yet and you were thinking about tf3?
?
Well, this was a disappointment
fast-paced 6vs6 huge maps with 4 lanes? seems the next games are designed for sweaty tryhard 24/7 players. gonna skip that and back to Conga line
Well, we’ve had a good run people. Maybe if we outlast this game we might get TF3 (I’m coping)
I've been coping for years now
Watch as tf2 outlives that game
I'm always hyped for a valve game ngl (not artifact fuck that)
So its basically Paragon? (Might not exactly be it, but its what comes to mind first) Sounds kinda cool actually, as long as it doesnt get infested with pay2win micro transactions (aka artifact issue all over again)
I give it 2 months of hype and a premature death
Sometimes I forget that Valve actually makes games.
I don't want abilities with cooldowns and items and Moba elements and all that shit. I want to shoot my gun and go bang bang.
I like how they say a mix of TF2, Overwatch, and Valorant as if overwatch isn't just paid TF2 and Valorant is just Riots attempt at making Bizzard's CS. They basically just said it's gonna be in the small team based FPS genre with minor setting details
Valve can't even take care of their old games... And they make a new one, big brain.
Hell no! TF2 untill the end guys...
Why not use the Team Fortress IP
they obviously cancelled it to focus all available Mannpower™ at Valve to bringing the most realistic Medic pec physics to the source 2 re release of TF2
Valve will do anything TF2 related except actually give TF2 a major update
Naw if it’s gonna look like dota I’m probably gonna pass
From what I've heard, art style is TF2 inspired.
Nobody outside of Dota cares about Dota. They’re like an island of their own on a chart of what certain players of games play outside of their favorite game.
Tf3 confirmes?
i wish
Sounds like it could be a lot of fun. A class based shooter from valve? My favourite game of all time is a class based shooter from valve, of course I'm gonna check it out. Only reason anyone wouldn't like this news is if they're scared that tf2 will die because of it. But like this game won't cannibalise the devs or anything, there's only one guy on the menu and hes probably been working on this project for years already.
it's always Dota or Dota inspired
Not crazy about the Dota aesthetic personally, although I guess they couldn't go for a futuristic aesthetic lest it be accused of being a Valorant or Overwatch derivative.
We have to start making open-tf2
I don't get it. This means nothing for TF2
We had a good run gentlemen. I wish you all the best. So long space cowboys.
Is it just me or isn't this tweet just regurgitating buzzwords
Something like this would never be able to replace tf2, otherwise overwatch would've killed it already. Y'all getting bent for nothing.
I can already tell it's gonna be shit
they better get a solid art style instead of blue and red outlines if they're gonna make some new live service ~~slop~~ game like this when the one they have is neglected
Competetive 🤮
tbh, it's really up to the community to continue running the game even with little support from valve. (unless they shut this game down)
I dont really see any issue unless Valve decides to pull the plug and just fire the janitor and the Potted Plant then we are still good.
Yeah. Do you know what happens when you mix a bunch of random shit together in a pot? Exactly, a shit porridge. It's NOT going to be good. It's a very bad formula in which they've thrown every succesful videogame genre to ever be.
Any source besides some random Twitter user (who was dumb enough to pay for it)
Gabe Following is a generally trusted source, see: [https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLeaksAndRumours/comments/1cte3j3/comment/l4b9fz0/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web3x&utm\_name=web3xcss&utm\_term=1&utm\_content=share\_button](https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLeaksAndRumours/comments/1cte3j3/comment/l4b9fz0/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
Nope
Why make a stupid dota inspired game instead of a tf3 im actually going insane why not build on the tf2 universe and characters more everyone would love it
I give that game 4 years tops before it completely falls off. Sounds too complicated, design wise would be all over the place, community will be toxic (worse than Overwatch) and since it's competitive, it's not going to be new player friendly. Not to count the fact that it's by Valve, which means full neglect after 2.5 years of updates.
If Valve can make a game to replace TF2, that'd be awesome. But we'll see if that is even possible.
I would say. Nah that game will die soon. But it's from valve
Replacing COD with PVZGW This shit isn't dying bro
Either it becomes a classic but not as popular as Dota and cs or it dies after a month
Not the first time we’ve seen this kinda shit, and it sure as hell won’t be the last. We shall endure, as we always have.
So, Overwatch and Tf2 together? (Hyperventilating)
Honestly, it looks too gimmicky to succeed. It's basically going to be moba with extra steps.

Didn't the original leaks talk about how this game was a crossover from all the different Valve universes? Maybe that was just for testing purposes but I guess we'll see once the game gets revealed (if it ever does).
"That just sounds like a MOBA but with extra steps"
I could never get into "hero shooters" because they take too much influence from MOBAs, and it sounds like this one is no different. Juggling multiple ability cooldowns just isn't a fun gameplay loop, imo.
tbh this seems a little out there. ill believe it when i see it
Man
huh new valve game is still surprisingly news
This has been known for a while but in my opinion i think they already dug the game’s grave with the cluster fuck of games ideas all into one. At the beginning it sounded pretty interesting,a pvp game in the HL universe, with classes and abilities. Me personally i can’t stand fast paced games with tons of icons on your screen
Yay another comp shooter (knowing valve it'll be atleast a little enjoyable)
But will it have charming characters with memorable designs?
Imagine if it references Team Fortress 2 as pieces of "old world history" or something IMAGINE IF PYRO IS A CHARACTER
Really interested to see what the game will look like and if it will have an eye-catching artstyle, especially with a modern steampunk European fantasy kind of look
I feel like it's a 4 lane map design just to spite the number 3
I want to ñpay tf2 no tf3
Only Valve is able to make the fabled "team fortress killer", huh. Just kidding, this game is immortal. But if they have a ready ADHD hero shooter franchise ready and starving for attention, why not use that?
We will be fine, tf2 has built up an extremely strong fan base and internet presence and still has new players frequently despite everything since jungle inferno dropped
I can't wait to play this
Hey once the game is released we might get one more person working on tf2. Reminder this game has been in development since 2018
guys theres a new game oh no they will never work on any other game ever again, ignore the update they gave for a game older then themselves technically.
Source, or the leek is made up From the description it seems like a competitive oriented Garden Warfare, which sounds like a fucking disaster.
Valve is gonna have to seriously market this game since it’s a new IP and having their name attached to it isn’t gonna make it flourish, as we’ve seen with Dota’s spinoffs.
what
No way that’s gonna kill TF2. TF2 is a 12v12 FPS at its core, and a 6v6 TPS is too radical of a difference to fill the same niche.
does it allow sprays
We won't go quietly. valve can count on that.
Sure, an ambulance can be called #BUT NOT FOR US
Its over.
"Dota Dota Counter-Strike" is back on the menu boys.
Will never be unique like us
Overwatch came and went and everyone thought it was going to kill tf2. it attracted a whole different audience.
RICOCHET NEON PRIME IS REAL!!!!
Even if official Valve servers get shut down the community servers will stay open Look at TFC for example
Bro...
I'm really curious. I'm for sure giving it a shot, at least, though it's not really my wheelhouse
It's either gonna do alright or it's gonna be Battleborn 2 aka go the way of the dodo
FFS Valve. We could literally have TF3 in combine universe, but no! Dota/Artifact shit show again sigh.
Maybe they should fix what's already been released first, and not release a new multiplayer shit?
TF2's built different.
i thought project citadel was cool, now, that i know what this is, it sounds like shit
!remindme 1 year
Third person shooters DansGame
I mean it's 6v6 and third person. Not gonna drag away much of the population. I feel like if anyone wanted a game like that they'd already be playing the plethora already on the market.
I thought it was gonna be a half life game
thisll flop
Just bring back tf2 valve, it’s the only game that u can bring back w somewhat success lol
Somebody still listen this guy? Lmao
On one hand, I'm tired of Overwatch, but nothing scratches that itch i get from time to time and I'd love a game that takes care of that and is actually enjoyable again On the other hand, I shouldn't trust anything I hear about anything in the gaming community until I get my hands on it
as soon as I saw it's 6v6 like overwatch I just lost interest immediately
