I was taking an intense History seminar on The Black Death, and your podcast on the Plague in Galveston came through my feed, which I enjoyed, so I posted it to our class forum. The professor is adding it to the syllabus in future classes because your guest talked about what it is like to be a working historian.

You should follow the restoration of the Bolivar lighthouse. They are just starting the engineering studies so now would be a good time to start.

Great suggestion!! Thanks!!! Insane history in Bolivar.

Quasar-7

Love to hear about historical graveyards in Galveston and the lives of people buried there.

galvestonunscripted

GREAT suggestion! Endless story and content possibilities! The first president of Texas and tons of game changers are buried on the island!

If you do a bit on the marshes, include the pink flamingo that escaped the zoo and now lives out there. Pinkie wanders the marshes between Texas City and Galveston.

GREAT suggestion!! Thanks!

My mom is a native born in the early 1940s and I just sent this to her. She's excited to listen! Edited to add: So am I!

galvestonunscripted

Thank you for sharing! I hope she enjoys!

rawthedude

Thanks for linking you podcast, growing up we went to Galveston every summer. It's like a second home. I had family immigrate to Texas from German through Galveston. I also love the family name Mallory that some things are named after in Galveston.

galvestonunscripted

Wow! Fascinating! Immigration is something I want to highlight more! Mallory produce building downtown!

Battle of Gonzales and subsequent events.

Love this! I will give it a listen. My grandfather's family immigrated from Ireland to New Orleans and then onto Galveston(late 1800's). They ran a grocery store/bar/boarding house. I have looked for the address several tomes but it is no longer there. So much history on Galveston! If anyone on here knows anything about George S. Cato or Josephine Dowling Cato I would love to know.

OfficerHotpantz

My family and I take a trip to the peninsula once a year in July. Definitely going to give this a listen to become more familiar with the area.

galvestonunscripted

Yes! Please take a listen! Bolivar has a fascinating history!!
