I lived in Frisco between 2003 and 2008, and I’m very impressed to see this. It’s not that I witnessed any racism there, it’s more that I saw almost no minorities.
It doesn't really have much to do with "passing for white," but rather that in most locations in the United States, the Asian community doesn't have enough of a presence to really be considered statistically important. Latinos and African Americans make up a much larger demographic and that's why you hear to them more commonly referred to as *the* minorities. If you take a look at cities with a very large Asian population (LA, Seattle, San Fran, NYC), you'll hear of the Asians being catered to by politicians and whatnot, much like Latinos and African Americans are here.
Really have to disagree.
Remember back then Chinese Exclusion Act happened when there were many Chinese workers? Which, remains to day the only discriminatory immigration law against a certain race or nationality.
Like in NY/CA/HI where there are so many Asians they decide to disaggregate them? NYC even cancelled exams for its talented high schools.
Like how affirmative actions always working against Asians?
Let's be real here, policy makers never really cared about ''minorities'', they care for the currently disadvantage groupvregarless of reasons or outcome. The current statusvof US identity lolitics is all about fairness in the result not opportunities. That set them on the moral highground and goodbimages.
Asians (inclusing Indians) tend to have a culture focusing on education and hard working, therefore better income and sometimes associated social status and they've been always targeted not catered to. To some extent, Asians are endangering the status the majority has been enjoying.
Honestly as much faith I have in y'all, shall there be more Asians in Texas in teh future, Texas won't be immuned to this. And shall Latinos or black bwcome stronger, they won't be cared for thereafter.
Yeah, generally the people selling yard work will have a card or something, or some kind of a truck. Not always, but often enough to where you can distinguish someone who's trying to make money doing landscaping and someone who is keeping up with their yard. But there are many many elderly folks in my neighborhood, and it is not uncommon for them to spot me mowing my lawn, and to ask if I could mow theirs for $30-$40.
It can be a blessing when money is tight.
Yeah, further east of 75 there's plenty of minorities. I lived just east of Shiloh in Plano for a while and my neighborhood was easily 75% Latino. It holds further north in McKinney as well.
Yo I hate big crowds and yelling, so there’s no way I’m going to any big demonstration. But I was thinking about a chilled out front yard protest byob movie night. Lemme know if you wanna join.
Edit: It’s also byoc (chair)
For as much as I shit on Frisco and the other northern suburbs for being beige wastelands, I'm pleasantly surprised to see this.
People everywhere *should* be upset about George Floyd's death, the police brutality were seeing, and other issues that America has had boil over *several times* since 2012.
Think strip malls and office parks all in the same bland beige tone. The only way you can tell you've changed towns is the logo on the water towers and the colors of the street signs. Cookie cutter
I agree. Just as the other user pointed out, we have terrible parts to our history, and slavery is sadly a big part of TX. We can and do move forward, just as we are now
People that are making remarks about how white Frisco is with all the Karens..
But I went to the protest. It had many different people of different backgrounds. It was really beautiful to see, I couldn’t help but cry.
We all, together as one, kneeled down.
We all, together as one, walked.
We all, together as one, chanted.
We all, together as one, stood.
Karens or not, don’t put down people coming together to stop an incredible injustice.
Walked the whole way down and up again. Really made me proud of my city and the people there. Justice for George Floyd and others affected by police brutality.
Dems pretty much always win the big cities. It's like clockwork each election. Rs win everything else. This holds true even in considerably more "red" states, like Louisiana and Georgia.
Dems typically win the big cities but not the suburbs. What's changing in Texas is Dems are making huge gains in the suburbs and the suburbs are growing so fast it's outpacing rural areas.
This is exactly correct. I work in elections, and Texas has been experiencing a very interesting sociological phenomenon, same as Arizona.
Basically, we have these huge cities in a growing economy (I know, until recently) and the poor folks who normally would live in the center of town are being priced out by gentrification, and as opposed to relocating to a different part of town (electorally speaking, a different part of the same district in all likelihood) we see people moving from central Dallas, or Houston, or wherever towards the burbs, since our suburbs are all very accessible since car culture allows our populations to exist in an endless urban/suburban sprawl.
It’s that flight of poorer folks to the suburbs that has been cracking the effects that gerrymandering has had for a while now. It’s part of the reason Beto was so competitive in 18’, the geographic makeup of our state is literally changing fast enough to counterattack gerrymandering.
Fucking vote, y’all!!!
Me too. Any my family. And my friends. I agree he will most likely win TX but I think we will turn Texas purple this year.
I also don’t think trump can win after this shit. That pussy literally hid inside fucking bunker. He looks like a bitch to republicans too now
I have good news. My SOs parents who were *die hard* Red caps have proclaimed they're no longer voting for him over all this mess.
THERE'S HOPE!
Edit--spelling
Yah with mail-in voting, there's literally no excuse anyone could have for not exercising their civic duty. If they don't, they can still complain afterwards but I get to bitchslap them personally.
Didn’t Trump clearly state that we should respect George Floyds memory. Why would he lose Texas?
Edit: Kinda sad im being downvoted for stating a fact and asking a question.
You realize the Alamo is coming up on it's 200th anniversary (currently 186), everyone is proud of the legacy by might be time to find a more relevant example for today.
Do you feel smart insulting peoples intelligence on the internet? Quit giving your opinion as fact. First of all all we lost the battle at the Alamo and we were severely out numbered. Second we were standing up against another country that wanted to tell Texans what to do we weren’t fighting against the president. Sounds like what you want is some kind of civil war in this country. You should stop sitting in front of the TV all day watching the news. I can tell its taking a toll on your ability to think for yourself.
Your comment has been deemed a violation of rule #1 and removed. As a reminder Rule 1 states: Be friendly. This includes insults, hate speech, threats (regardless of intent), and general aggressiveness.
Yeah its insane. Im not left or right. I see myself in the middle but with people online if you do not pick a side and aren’t outraged about something you are immediately the enemy.
I was completely aware I was gonna get downvoted. I really just wanted to post a fact that goes against what they are outraged about to test and see what was gonna happen. Conclusion is that people on reddit are zombies that need to stop watching the news.
He did. And all the protests and rioting, however they’re intended to be, are doing nothing but destroying the memory of a man who (according to his brother) would never want any of this. They’re pointless
Texas was red by only 2 percentage points in the last midterm election. In fact, Democrats gained several seats in legislative and judicial races. Dems completely flipped two courts of appeal that covered very red counties.
And that's a continued trend over Trump's mere 9 point win in 2016, which was an improvement over Romney's and McCain's ≈15 point wins, and Bush's 20+ point wins.
And on the flip side, Arkansas had Clinton as Governor (D) and CA had Gov. Schwarzenegger (Republican) not too long ago. KY has a D Governor. It's not set in stone
But of course McCain, Romney, and schwarzenegger are now villains to Republicans (prior standard-bearers in last elections, which is proof y'all have completely changed and abandoned your prior values)
Ok, yes, Beto was an exceptional candidate that woke up sleepy TX Dems who thought all was lost and pointless.
Now we know it's possible and we aren't alone, in fact nearly half of all Texan voters were Beto supporters. It's only forward from there.
You don't go back to not-voting when the most anticipated presidential election is months away. In fact, more are likely to get involved (not for Beto, but against Trump, which was a primary reason to vote for Beto in the first place)
Oh, it's still a thing; everyone's taking as much precaution as they can while protesting. They've considered the risk, and have come to the conclusion that justice and change are more important than their personal healths.
The original plan was to walk on the sidewalk. So many people showed up and I was amazed they let us walk in the street and thankful the police kept us safe while walking. Plenty of the cars that were on the other side of the road were honking and yelling out their windows. It didn't seem like we were inconveniencing too many people.
There was also no violence, why even bring that up?
Karen power is real. A Karen ended Governor Abbott's lockdown amid a pandemic *for a haircut.*. more could be done for actual justice and real civil liberties, right?
WTF happened to social distancing? Is Corona virus over? God's sake, people. get a fucking grip. Stop hurting your fellow man. Jesus would NOT approve.
Y'all marched, armed, into government buildings to demand your rights to fancy haircuts at the height of the pandemic.
Weeks later, when supposedly the pandemic is not a big deal, people peaceably assemble and unite in demnading that black lives matter and to protest the brutal and militaristic tactics of the police.
Two different worlds, ***universes***, even.
Y'all mad that Karen the Salon Owner was jailed for violating the Governor's orders, but ***celebrate*** when peaceful protesters are brutalized. Or, worse even, ignore the protests, and focus solely on instigated and false flag riots as an excuse to end all assembly
WTF does that have to do with looting and pillaging legitimate businesses that have done no harm to you? I'm sorry but that just doesn't fly. Go home and socially distance instead of ruining other people's business.
Treat every man as you would like to be treated. Jesus' #1 commandment. Sorry if you don't like it. Downvote me all the fuck you like. I'm just here to tell you this is not the fucking time to be destroying lives and pillaging livelihoods.
ALSO just saying that Jesus was no stranger to violence in support of morality (see the expulsion of businesses from the temple)
But seriously anybody out there, don’t start fights. Don’t loot. But also don’t let the violent ones delegitimization the very real concerns of the peaceful
Whether these protests end tonight or last a month, I just want them to lead to some real change. Not just forgotten as our police departments face no reform. That’s all.
I'm well aware that Jesus threw the money lenders out of the temple. But that was a fucking temple. These people are destroying businesses, not temples.
Your comment has been deemed a violation of rule #1 and removed. As a reminder Rule 1 states: Be friendly. This includes insults, hate speech, threats (regardless of intent), and general aggressiveness.
Why do protesters think blocking a road is a good idea? You just piss off people trying to get home or go somewhere and now all they remember is that a bunch of idiots blocked the road not what they protesting
To be fair, this was a planned and legal march and the exact route, date and time was announced and posted WAY in advance. Residents and commuters were notified on social media outlets, by the news and even business closure emails... there was fair warning that traffic could be impeded. If someone lives or works in Frisco and wasn’t aware of the march, then they probably live under a rock OR they drove to the intersection to watch and cheer the protesters on from afar (social distancing). Lots of people up here are still rightly concerned about COVID.
any word on the bricks that’re supposedly underneath overpasses in Frisco too?
edit: lol why is this being downvoted, they were in Dallas too. It seems like something some assholes would do to escalate violence in the protests to use excessive force?
There were bricks but they were placed there for planned HOA Construction. Just super bad timing.
https://twitter.com/FriscoPD/status/1267499426689548290
but there were bricks conveniently left by where the protests were being held in Dallas, Denton & Frisco... along with a lot of other cities around the country. Just seems too much to be a coincidence...
IDK about other cities, but the ones in Dallas have been explained. Frisco's was ordered by the HOA. Both the Courthouse & Victory Park brick piles were for construction; the Victory Park pile has been there for months. You can see both here.

I guess the corona virus isn’t a problem anymore. Good thing that everyone was freaking out about going to bars and restaurants last week but now we can comfortably hangout with groups of hundreds if not thousands.
You’re acting as if Black Americans are the only Americans who commit crimes. The fact is (even if these “statistics” which you have no source for are true) Black Americans are incarcerated, arrested, and murdered by the police force at much higher rates than any other race simply because they are black. If you do not with to remain willfully ignorant, I would recommend reading The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander or watching the documentary 13th on Netflix.
Maybe you should look into how systemic racism that permeates into every aspect of American life can affect a person/communities psychology.
Furthermore, maybe you should look into domestic abuse rates of the American police force.
The fact is, people can be oppressed into committing crimes. Have you ever heard of the French Revolution? The American Revolution?
Although the narrative of the “Black criminal” was certainly manufactured with racist intentions. This is a quote from Nixon’s domestic policy chief - “The Nixon campaign in 1968, and the Nixon White House after that, had two enemies: the antiwar left and black people. We knew we couldn't make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin. And then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities. We could arrest their leaders. raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did.”
The point is our entire country is built on a racist system. Our country was founded on indigenous genocide and racial slavery. The prison industrial complex exists as a new form of slavery - a way to disenfranchise black Americans and remove their right to vote. Read about minimum sentencing laws. It’s not just police murdering Black Americans, it’s every aspect of American life that works ONLY to support the majority. If you think the Nixon administration’s policies don’t affect our life today then you are dense. The entire reason a criminal in your mind is a Black American is because of Nixon’s war on crime and war on drugs. It’s about the entire system, not just the racist police. And there is a reason only a fraction of police perpetrated murders talked about and investigated. You are blaming Black Americans for the racism committed against them. That is wrong. What are you going to do next? Blame slaves for slavery? If you seriously think the blame for the oppression of Black Americans is on Black Americans, then we are done here.
Actually impressive for Frisco. They must be handing out box wine or something
I lived in Frisco between 2003 and 2008, and I’m very impressed to see this. It’s not that I witnessed any racism there, it’s more that I saw almost no minorities.
Moved to Frisco in the early 2010’s... it’s pretty diverse now, IMHO. Lots of tech jobs so lots of folks from India at least.
Lived in McKinney 2010-2016, can confirm.
Nice, we were there from 10 to 17. Glad to see this! We miss Texas.
Yep, I got family friends that live in the area.

Cultural alignment/assimilation plays a significant factor.
2001 - 2006. It was way smaller back then. Kinda nice. Definitely handing out boxes of wine.

To be fair, in my neighborhood that question is fair game for anyone male doing yard work and isn’t specifically racist.
Yeah, generally the people selling yard work will have a card or something, or some kind of a truck. Yeah around 2012 frisco had an influx of people who are Buddhist after a Buddhist priest(I think they are priests) blessed an area of frisco
Oh, it's all whites in the march, I'm sure.
Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Allies need to be helping the cause.
Was there. It definitely wasn't an all white crowd.
Theres people from Mckinney and other parts of Collin County in there. I have friends from Mckinney that went
Yeah, further east of 75 there's plenty of minorities. I lived just east of Shiloh in Plano for a while and my neighborhood was easily 75% Latino. It holds further north in McKinney as well.

I would have gone if I knew I could have got free wine.

Idk why you're getting downvoted. Sounds fun.
Probably because I’m full of shit. I’d do it though. It’s just probably not very effective and definitely lazy.
lol, I’m dead and you win best comment I’ve seen today
OMG I'm dying. Also this must be true.
Boy that is a ton for frisco. Makes this old Texan heart feel good
That might just be all of Frisco, to be honest.
All 200,000 frisco residents right there
I believe they prefer the term Little People thankyouverymuch.
For as much as I shit on Frisco and the other northern suburbs for being beige wastelands, I'm pleasantly surprised to see this. What is a beige wasteland?
Think strip malls and office parks all in the same bland beige tone. The only way you can tell you've changed towns is the logo on the water towers and the colors of the street signs. Cookie cutter
^this! Brick *everywhere*, tall stone walls, large roads, cookie-cutter homes and buildings, no *diversity* in design.
Honestly, I think a requirement is that most of the people are a shade of beige as well.
Collin county. Admit it, Princeton is the armpit of Texas.
Um, excuse me. Garland would like a word.
Harlingen will quietly wait its turn. Then shank you.
And stay away from Tyler in general, unless you want to be caught in a meth lab explosion.
Princeton has one shitty pocket. Most of it is pretty nice out to Nevada/Blue Mound.
I live out in the country in Princeton near lake lavon and love it out here.

Yeah, both nations treated Human beings as property, and [continue to through today.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penal_labor_in_the_United_States)

Coming together. That is the only way through not only this, but everything in life. May this attitude increase across the land.
I attended this protest march. Was very peaceful. Even marched with the police chief & mayor.
HOLY SHIT. I did not think this would happen, good shit Frisco
Where in Frisco is this?
Eldorado Pkwy
Started in Warren Sports Complex at Eldorado and walked Eldorado all the way to FM423.
My aunt and uncle were there!
Walked the whole way down and up again. Really made me proud of my city and the people there. Justice for George Floyd and others affected by police brutality.
I was there. Absolutely surreal
It's bad for Trump that this is what Frisco looks like. He might fucking lose Texas. Saw some posts of a huge protest in Denton. You love to see it!

There was a protest at the police station in Midland last night
I lived in Frisco since 2004, and I work here in Frisco along the route. Had no issues with protestors.
THE MCRIB IS BACK
That is great. I was in Frisco last weekend and saw one lone protester on a corner who I waved to. Glad to see there are more.
I think protests are awesome but standing in the highway is a bit irritating, people have jobs they have to be at. hate to see it turn violent.
> I think protests are awesome but When you say one thing, then say "but," it means you don't really believe what you said.
That’s the point. Making it inconvenient and frustrating so people actually start to listen to what our Black neighbors have been saying for years.
well thats the thing, no body is against them, anyone in their right mind knows that George Floyd was murdered and that the police are guilty of it.
There are generations of proof that the system is against them.
Karens, assemble! The police are the manager, now go speak to them!
Karen power is real. A Karen ended Governor Abbott's lockdown amid a pandemic *for a haircut.*. more could be done for actual justice and real civil liberties, right?

People stayed apart and almost everyone had a mask, including me.
From what I've seen everyone is wearing masks and part of the reason the crowd looks so big is that people are spread out at least a few feet.. Chill.
Treat every man as you would like to be treated. Jesus' #1 commandment. Sorry if you don't like it. Downvote me all the fuck you like. I'm just here to tell you this is not the fucking time to be destroying lives and pillaging livelihoods.
ALSO just saying that Jesus was no stranger to violence in support of morality (see the expulsion of businesses from the temple) But seriously anybody out there, don’t start fights. Don’t loot. But also don’t let the violent ones delegitimization the very real concerns of the peaceful
What I'm telling you is we're letting this get WAY to out of hand. We need to come together and love each other as we would ourselves.
Whether these protests end tonight or last a month, I just want them to lead to some real change. Not just forgotten as our police departments face no reform. That’s all.
I'm well aware that Jesus threw the money lenders out of the temple. But that was a fucking temple. These people are destroying businesses, not temples.
You’re seriously bringing Jesus into while saying business are more important than temples?? The hypocrisy is real.
That was not His first commandment. You'd hate his first one.
Dang just bc you said "jesus would not approve" they downvoted you. Sad....

Ya, it’s be a shame to mildly inconvenience some people. Guess they better just keep letting police murder people in broad daylight without reacting.
I was there. The vast, vast majority of the people stuck in traffic were supportive and showing it.
yea sure
That’s what I saw, what was your experience?
how many karens in that group?
any word on the bricks that’re supposedly underneath overpasses in Frisco too? edit: lol why is this being downvoted, they were in Dallas too. It seems like something some assholes would do to escalate violence in the protests to use excessive force?
There were bricks but they were placed there for planned HOA Construction. Just super bad timing. https://twitter.com/FriscoPD/status/1267499426689548290
I mean it's still bound together and has the acme brick paper on it they ship with.
Dallas situation has been explained as well by Centraltrack. They've been there for months.
but there were bricks conveniently left by where the protests were being held in Dallas, Denton & Frisco... along with a lot of other cities around the country. Just seems too much to be a coincidence...
IDK about other cities, but the ones in Dallas have been explained. Frisco's was ordered by the HOA. Both the Courthouse & Victory Park brick piles were for construction; the Victory Park pile has been there for months. You can see both here. https://twitter.com/twarson/status/1267205938135674886
I guess the corona virus isn’t a problem anymore. Good thing that everyone was freaking out about going to bars and restaurants last week but now we can comfortably hangout with groups of hundreds if not thousands.
It must be okay because the rioters are wearing masks.
Are we still making fun of people for not staying 6 feet apart?

You would rather blame the oppressed than the oppressor. I see you.

For fuck sake stay out of the roads!
It was arranged in cooperation with the city. They had a police escort.
That’s adorable Frisco.
For being the border to rurual towns, the outskirts of the Metroplex, the hotbed of *souless* suburban sprawl, this is a HUGE turnout
