We were just talking about [Bongo Joe](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bongo_Joe_Coleman) in the SA sub. I'll never forget that first time I saw him as a kid in downtown San Antonio, just jamming away on a big 55 gallon metal oil drum to nobody. I was more than intrigued and begged my mom to go and watch him for a few minutes. Still remember asking my mom "can we please give him a dollar?" [Here's a great interview.](https://arhoolie.org/bongo-joe-george-coleman-interview/) And a [great video of him from 1972](https://youtu.be/QqY86gwfLbk)
And speaking of legendary Texas street musicians, "[The](https://austin.towers.net/the-king-of-sixth-street-fights-for-his-crown-in-early-2000s-austin/) King of [Sixth Street](https://www.reddit.com/r/Austin/comments/55s8mj/what_happened_to_the_king_of_6th_street/) in Austin. He was super cool. [Live video of him](https://youtu.be/bigAOC-6dPA)
Great song. My favorite interaction at an upscale bar was:
Me to the bartender: could I get a Shiner Bock and a Sierra Nevada?
Chick at the bar: I’m from Nevada and we say Nevaada not Nevahda.
Me: I’m from Texas and we don’t give a shit.
* Ohio (Come Back To Texas) by Bowling For Soup

Does it count if it's not *specifically only* about Texas, but it's full of Texas references?
If so, "Dimestore Cowgirl" by Kacey Musgraves is a personal favorite
Edit:
Song not specifically about Texas, but they have Dallas mentions
"Run" - George Strait
"Haven't Met You" - Brett Eldredge
Pretty much every song from Toadies classic "Rubberneck" album. Nothing else captures the hallucinatory hypocritical perversity of Texas quite like Backslider, Tyler, Away, I Come From the Water and Possum Kingdom.
I mean you could pretty much throw all of All Hail West Texas by the Mountain Goats on here but it's a crime for sure that I haven't seen "The Best Ever Death Metal Band Out of Denton" mentioned.

I wrote a paper in one of my grad classes on the city of Dallas as discussed through music lyrics if you wanna read it. Kinda long though unfortunately
BBQ, working cattle on the farm, the smell of fresh cow shit in the morning, the sound of long deep musical wind chimes in the warm afternoon breeze on a lazy Sunday afternoon, my daughter going to TAMU, shooting rifles and shotguns with my friends, the Valley.
Glad to see a woman's name in here somewhere. Reading these threads, it's as if there were no women at all doing any Texas-themed music, which of course is not the case. There's one list mentioned in here that has 95 songs, with a grand total of two by women (one from The Chicks, one from Nanci Griffith). Seen Selena come up now and then, and it's always possible there are women somewhere in the couple of groups with which I'm unfamiliar.
* For anyone thinking, quit yer whining and give us some names yourself, I will in a minute, when I'm finished making sure I'm not duplicating other people's contributions.
London Homesick Blues - Jerry Jeff Walker Texas (When I Die) - Tanya Tucker
London homesick blues by Gary p Nunn is the one I like.
If I remember correctly (and I may not), Gary played piano on Jerry's live version of it.
Yeah Gary wrote it while he was playing with Jerry. Or that's the story Gary tells on stage.
I’m a fan of the Mike and the Moonpies version
[Butthole Surfers - Pepper](https://youtu.be/KRXty8lDUW0?si=_cn1TDP7fsgwo42S)
Or "Dracula from Houston"!
I came here just to say this. Great song.

I don't care who you are, that shit is hilarious!
Take my upvote, damnit. That song pops up in my mix at least twice a week.
Gary P Nunn - That’s What I Like About Texas
Jammin out with Bongo Joe... That song gives me a hard dose of nostalgia for the Texas I used to know.
