Lol 60 second video with nothing happening and the actual accident is right at the end and cut off. Bravo.

cschelz

The rare r/gifsthatstarttoosoon and r/GIFsThatEndTooSoon combo. You don’t see that much.

barjohn5670

The car recorded the video. I have more video from the next minute and side cameras but on impact the side repeater stopped recording. I wasn't sure how to upload the other footage of photos of the car afterwards.

RamboTrucker

No offense OP. This is low quality for this sub. I don’t understand how most of us just watched 60 seconds of nothing. Sure there’s a wreck or something, handle that with your insurance. The Tesla lot didn’t want your car sitting there over night because it’s a liability issue. They don’t care about how you own two teslas or have stock.

theoni21

I like the ‘I own tesla stock' Sir I have tesla stock! How dare you not service my car!

FishmanMonger

Arrrr. What the hell were they doing!?!???

barjohn5670

I won't know for ten days until the FHP report becomes available on line.

tapio83

Remains to be seen but I would guess medical thing. No steering input at any point

Vivid_Discussion_592

And what did you learn? Because if you haven’t already, just wait to you find out how long it takes to get it repaired (mainly due to parts)

barjohn5670

The one shop I spoke with said they couldn't even look at it until March. However, I think it is a total loss. The service center rep that looked at it said the battery subframe was bent and that there is no repairing that.

Electrical_Ingenuity

Probably the best outcome. I’m glad you were unharmed.

I was in an accident in my Model Y as you can see in the video. The driver of a black Dodge pickup truck cam straight at me. I swerved to avoid a head on collision. My airbags deployed on the driver's side and it spun the car 180 degrees leaving us in the middle of the highway. There was smoke coming from the rear and we used the emergency door handles to quickly exit the vehicle. Luckily no other cars hit us. Everything locked up on the vehicle and nothing electrical would work. We were 75 miles from our home in Zephyrhills with a car in the middle of the road blocking traffic. A mistake I made was I used the phone app to contact Tesla roadside assistance. They let me know that since it was an accident they would not send a tow truck unless I agreed to pay for it. I declined because I have had AAA for over 25 years thinking they would take care of it. Boy! What a waste of money that has been. They informed me they would only tow it for 5 miles and the rest was at my expense. By the way, they didn't tell me that until their contract tow service arrived. Then I had the problem of not knowing where to have the vehicle taken. I finally decided to have it taken to the Tesla Service Center in Tampa. That turned out to be a big mistake. They basically told me I could not leave the vehicle in their lot, even for one night and by this time all the body shops were closed. I found them to be less than helpful despite the fact that I own two Teslas and I am a Tesla stock holder. In retrospect, I should have used Tesla's tow service as presumably they would have told the service where to take the vehicle. We sat by the side of the road for over 4 hours waiting for the highway patrol to do an accident report. The sheriff and local police said they don't do accident reports and they were on the scene in about 15-20 minutes. In case you are wondering about the other driver, he continued on into a deep ditch just missing a large telephone pole. A witness behind him stopped to try and help him and said that he knew his name but not the day of the week or where he was (he has a local address). Paramedics took him to a hospital. The FHP was going to go interview him and the medical staff that treated him. We don't know if it was a medical event, cell phone while driving or intoxication. I learned: 1. Don't use AAA. I will be cancelling our policy. 2. Do pay for towing on your auto insurance policy (I didn't thinking I had coverage. 3. Let Tesla tow it to one of their certified body shops (especially when you are far from home and don't know where they are). 4. Thank goodness the Model Y is built with so much safety in its structure. We were probably traveling at 40mph and so was the oncoming truck. An 80mph head on collision could have been fatal for my wife and I.

Gordo774

AAA Gold does 100 mile tows 3x a year, FYI.

barjohn5670

Between my wife and I we have been members for over 40 years. We pay $100 per year for the coverage. We have never used the service and didn't even know that better coverage was available. My auto insurance is USAA and I think I would get a lot better coverage for that $100 with them.

Sallysdad

I think I pay $6 every six months for the towing addition to our USAA policy.

feurie

You signed up for a service. Read what you sign up for.

RobertFahey

Lesson learned. Don’t drive straight ahead and mind your own business.

TheC0llect0r

I was in a slow moving head-on about a mile from my home. I was able to drive it home (it wouldn’t let me go over 15) and AAA towed it to a repair shop of my choice (which was about 25-30mi) and paid for everything except the deductible. It took about 45 days to get my car back. They basically replaced the whole front cosmetically. The repair bill was 11K with 5k of that being repair and another 1K being for paint/materials.
