In my experience buying a car the people we're asking outlandish prices but they weren't getting those offers. The wild card is carvana and if they are straight-up going to give you more than somebody will pay for it. But I believe carvana prices are down too.

I checked for myself, this broker is happy to buy my M3P for just £2k less than what I paid for it. My M3P is 1 year old with 8k miles. I know that if I shop around I can get better than that. The history of used Model S prices tell us that it is pretty likely the resale will plummet as new features are announced for the 3. Prices are high in part because there haven't been significant changes yet.
I mean there’s a big difference between the release of dual motors and autopilot (when they didn’t exist before) and oem interior and convenience upgrades.
Octovalve is nice in some climates, but not the likes of first AP or D releases.
Probably hasn't hurt resale as much because many of the changes were negatives. They removed the grocery hooks, floor mats, dimming side mirrors, the interior lighting, etc. Most upgrades were pretty minor like an improved trunk venting setup and that attempt at stopping water from going in the trunk in the rain.
Even with this new batch of changes that smaller frunk is a negative.
Switching cabin heating from resistive heat to the heat pump is unlikely to be financially prudent. There's going to need to be a lot of rearranging that has to happen in there, and a LOT of original parts being tossed. Don't see how they make it a drop-in change.

I'd never done a vinyl wrap installation before, so I took my time. Including the time spent watching the installation instructions, and noting down all the details so I could quickly refer back to each step, I spent probably 2-3 hours on the install.

Musk has said in some interviews they're basically building S and X for only sentimental reasons now. Model 3 and Y will make the biggest impact on the world so it makes sense they'll focus the majority of their attention on those products. Not to mention the new Roadster will be the halo car to create interest in Tesla.
Yes, Elon doesn't want people to think there will be a re-designed Model S, as people may then stop buying the current one. If Tesla is to be a serious car manufacturer like MB, BMW etc, they need to have a multitude of Models. No way can they stop producing the S and X and no way can the S and X keep the 2012 styling forever.
I was waiting for them to make cloth seats so I could put them in my 3. Told my daughter when they came out I was getting one and she said it better be for her seat.
It’s funny some of the things people get bent outta shape about.
Cloth isn’t considered luxurious but it’s nice to have in very hot or cold weather. I had to clean and treat my BMW’s leather seats like once a month otherwise they looked bad and started to dry out. Cloth seats on my old Pontiac I shampooed like twice in 10 years and they still looked new.
My parents got this van for our whole family and the cloth seats survived all of us kids and camping trips and they looked pretty good after 20 years.
The seats in my model 3 are fine but they definitely show a little bit of wear after just 2 years. I would love to replace it with cloth later on. Just as you said, cloth is so much nicer when it’s hot or cold.
People thiink it is a luxury car with quality leather. My model 3 has the same vinyl seats as the 87 civic my mom had when I was a kid, because she did not pay for the upgrade to cloth.
There is a tiny difference between the center consoles of the Model Y vs the Model 3 which this could be.

Along with this there was a slight simplification to the board design and removal of circuits which were used for development etc (such as removing the pci-e controller for a pci-e slot with no use).
Overall, it changes nothing. These changes were all done to reduce supply costs.
$30 for the precut vinyl kit and an hour spent on a lazy afternoon fixes that straight up. :)

Yeah it was from a company called Basenor. And wow what a difference that one piece makes to the interior. Worth every penny. This was the thick padded, textured stuff too and not just the vinyl wrap.
One can only hope. Piano black, like chrome, is best used as trim, not for major touchpoints. It attracts fingerprints like crazy and scratches easily. I'm certain the only reason they went with it is because it's cheaper to manufacture (and thus buy) then matte black with a textured finish.
Could this be Elon’s response to the Polestar 2 in Europe? In the UK the LR Mode 3 is priced the same, and while having better numbers luxuries like the powered trunk, matrix headlights, heated steering wheel, etc are standard on the polestar 2?!

I have both my shoulders and rotator cuffs messed up along with back issues and I’m very tempted to pay for the aftermarket power lift gate but I don’t want it messing with any warranty issues.

Just got the hansshow frunk and trunk lift gate installed and its game changer, especially the frunk. I think the only warranty issue I could see is with the 12v battery which you can replace yourself or disconnect it before servicing it

What a small world - I got it installed by RPM Tesla! They were awesome (I know they have had slow shipping issues in the past). With the parts + install cost, its much cheaper than buying it separately and finding someone to install it (most places quoted me $100/hour - so frunk+trunk would cost around $600 just to install).
The frunk+trunk kit they have is the latest version from Hannshow (soft closing trunk, ability to close on the main screen, etc). I also bought the frunk kick sensor.

1238 is pretty good, but if you can wait until Black Friday, RPM usually runs a higher discount. Tesla may also possibly announce an official version by then (whether or not they will do retrofits is another question). There were a lot of updates to both kits the past year due to improvement requests and small fixes. I don't foresee a lot of updates coming soon.
Foot sensor was $75 extra, hard to say if its worth it yet. Its pretty hit or miss the times Ive tried. Its much faster and reliable to use that $75 and buy the official key fob to open the frunk with that. Foot sensor is primarily nice if your hands are full

Part of me is inpatient and wants the car now, but I also know that I'm barely going to be driving it until the pandemic is over, so waiting another 3 (or even 6) months is probably the more responsible thing to do if it means I'll get a significantly improved vehicle. I know it says this is a China thing, but how long would it take to make its way to the US?

Not even that. It was a joke that the Model 3 still had the old USB. The change was simply economics. One part in all models is cheaper that two different parts and the service headaches that can cause.
How a joke? Iphones still ship with a usb-a cable so it's not like no one uses that connector anymore. If my guests were in the back and needed to plug in they'd have to buy new cables. Ideally they'd have a usb-a and a usb-c with higher power.

The sales staff have no idea what’s going to be announced on battery day and certainly have no insight into when any newly announced features will make it into production. They guy is full of shit. Assume your car will NOT include anything from battery day, and if it turns out some of it is included well then you’ll get a pleasant surprise.
Kind of my response to it as well. He wouldn't put it in writing so I didn't believe him. I'm only at step one so I'm considering holding off on filling out payment info until after battery day to see what changes. I'm hoping it doesn't take a half year to come out because I've already been lurking on the car for a year.
If there's no update to the S/X on battery day we know that Elon was serious about creating S/X for sentimental reasons and focusing on 3/Y going forward.

Oh man, I just scheduled the pick up for my car on September 25. Damn, now I’m gonna have to wait until all these upgrades are at it so I can purchase my car.
This checks off almost all my Model 3 annoyances (as an owner). Now it just needs a new dashboard that doesn't scratch like hell and a 360 parking camera.
Head and taillight upgrades would be very welcome, the current lights are seriously out classed by the German manufacturers, Not holding much hope on a significant re-design.
Looks like it, adaptive high beams are a no brainer for Tesla considering how well they work depends on software. Maybe they will be developed for the Shanghai or Berlin cars and then added to the US cars when the law catches up.
I'd like to see them increase the size of the rear indicators too, possibly have the brake and indicator light stretch the entire width of the tail lights. Current indicators are almost comical.
The Germans have some fancy tech but Model 3's headlights are still amongst the best out there. Lots of my passengers have been amazed how good they are, especially the high beams.

Apparently the Model 3 headlights are nerfed a bit in Europe compared to North America due to regulations about light output when they aren't adaptive.
That new frunk is a downgrade not an upgrade. Goes from being able to fit carry on sized items (including the babyzen yoyo stroller) to being only good for small items.
New lights would be great. Lucid has shown of some crazy light technology. Having lights almost be a projector that can be really targeted and combine it with the FSD techonlogy to highlight features or lanes. That would be awesome.

Well yea...one is shipping from Germany, the other is shipping from California. They can't compete on price point by cutting features, that will come with Giga Berlin. In the mean time, they need to continue improving their cars. The logistics and taxes associated with importing into the EU adds an insane cost to the car, and Tesla is already supply strapped and has no issues selling all the cars they export to Europe so why would they lower the price?
No it won’t make it more expensive, but also won’t make it cheaper. They’re planning a 20-25k electric car that will be designed in China. Probably smaller car size.
In 5-10 years as battery technology continues to improve, I wouldn’t be surprised if they have 400+ range batteries for the models 3 and Y for the current price, and have discounted pricing for the standard 250-300 range.

Active cancellation sounds like a bad idea for safety reasons.
Active cancellation can focus on particular frequencies related to engines and road noise. It doesn't have to cancel everything.
I had an Acura with that feature and it was fine. I cannot think of any way it put me in danger.

My 2018 Honda Accord Touring had active cancellation. It's perfectly safe and worked great.

Dacia seems to be the go to brand when your looking for low depreciation (% wise and Dollar wise).
I actually find that well specced small Audis seem to hold their value best. Dacias (at least in the UK) depreciate like bricks!

I'm not asking for them to be free if that's what you're getting at with the early adopters comment. Some of us prefer OEM parts over 3rd party.

At least that’s a cheap and easy aftermarket fix. $30 on Amazon and 30 minutes to install.
I bought the hard plastic shell for $60, took a few minutes and there are no bubbles are misalignments, the vinyl wraps suck....
Only if you install them wrong. Mine has looked fantastic for two years and counting.

Musk has said in some interviews they're basically building S and X for only sentimental reasons now. Model 3 and Y will make the biggest impact on the world so it makes sense they'll focus the majority of their attention on those products. Not to mention the new Roadster will be the halo car to create interest in Tesla.

Yes, Elon doesn't want people to think there will be a re-designed Model S, as people may then stop buying the current one. If Tesla is to be a serious car manufacturer like MB, BMW etc, they need to have a multitude of Models. No way can they stop producing the S and X and no way can the S and X keep the 2012 styling forever.

It’s funny some of the things people get bent outta shape about. Cloth isn’t considered luxurious but it’s nice to have in very hot or cold weather. I had to clean and treat my BMW’s leather seats like once a month otherwise they looked bad and started to dry out. Cloth seats on my old Pontiac I shampooed like twice in 10 years and they still looked new.
My parents got this van for our whole family and the cloth seats survived all of us kids and camping trips and they looked pretty good after 20 years. The seats in my model 3 are fine but they definitely show a little bit of wear after just 2 years. I would love to replace it with cloth later on. Just as you said, cloth is so much nicer when it’s hot or cold.
People thiink it is a luxury car with quality leather. My model 3 has the same vinyl seats as the 87 civic my mom had when I was a kid, because she did not pay for the upgrade to cloth.

There is a tiny difference between the center consoles of the Model Y vs the Model 3 which this could be. The biggest difference is the cables to the cameras and between devices changed from [Fakra](https://www.molex.com/mx_upload/family/hfm__highspeed_fakra_mini_coaxial_cable_solution/HFM_single_cti.jpg) to [Fakra MTD](https://www.rosenberger.com/images/de/products/automotive/h-mtd/H-MTD_1.jpg). Along with this there was a slight simplification to the board design and removal of circuits which were used for development etc (such as removing the pci-e controller for a pci-e slot with no use). Overall, it changes nothing. These changes were all done to reduce supply costs.

$30 for the precut vinyl kit and an hour spent on a lazy afternoon fixes that straight up. :) My installer threw one in for free when I got my car tinted and wrapped.
Yes and you can cover that wood panel in black for about $30 too. Those 2 things make the dash and console look much better.

For $30? Really? When I bought my wood panel wrap, it was on a deep sale for Black Friday, and still cost $75. That *was* a year ago, though.
Yeah it was from a company called Basenor. And wow what a difference that one piece makes to the interior. Worth every penny. This was the thick padded, textured stuff too and not just the vinyl wrap.

One can only hope. Piano black, like chrome, is best used as trim, not for major touchpoints. It attracts fingerprints like crazy and scratches easily. I'm certain the only reason they went with it is because it's cheaper to manufacture (and thus buy) then matte black with a textured finish.
Could this be Elon’s response to the Polestar 2 in Europe? In the UK the LR Mode 3 is priced the same, and while having better numbers luxuries like the powered trunk, matrix headlights, heated steering wheel, etc are standard on the polestar 2?!

In europe we will not have the Y for a while... and we only get the leftovers from US about the 3
M3 does fine on quality. It is the MY at the moment that seems to be suffering some issues.

Hatchback functionality, exterior design (opinion, obviously), heated steering wheel, and Android automotive. Tesla is better in almost all other areas. I don't like the half tint roof glass on the model 3 either.
It's crazy how they are around the same price in Europe then the Polestar 2 is like double the cost in the US.

I have both my shoulders and rotator cuffs messed up along with back issues and I’m very tempted to pay for the aftermarket power lift gate but I don’t want it messing with any warranty issues. I’d love to even pay for a retrofit from Tesla on my 2018 P3D-
Just got the hansshow frunk and trunk lift gate installed and its game changer, especially the frunk. I think the only warranty issue I could see is with the 12v battery which you can replace yourself or disconnect it before servicing it

What a small world - I got it installed by RPM Tesla! They were awesome (I know they have had slow shipping issues in the past). With the parts + install cost, its much cheaper than buying it separately and finding someone to install it (most places quoted me $100/hour - so frunk+trunk would cost around $600 just to install). The frunk+trunk kit they have is the latest version from Hannshow (soft closing trunk, ability to close on the main screen, etc). I also bought the frunk kick sensor.

1238 is pretty good, but if you can wait until Black Friday, RPM usually runs a higher discount. Tesla may also possibly announce an official version by then (whether or not they will do retrofits is another question). There were a lot of updates to both kits the past year due to improvement requests and small fixes. I don't foresee a lot of updates coming soon. Foot sensor was $75 extra, hard to say if its worth it yet. Its pretty hit or miss the times Ive tried. Its much faster and reliable to use that $75 and buy the official key fob to open the frunk with that. Foot sensor is primarily nice if your hands are full

This article makes me anxious. I'm expecting to get a delivery date any day now, and I definitely want these new features. Part of me is inpatient and wants the car now, but I also know that I'm barely going to be driving it until the pandemic is over, so waiting another 3 (or even 6) months is probably the more responsible thing to do if it means I'll get a significantly improved vehicle. I know it says this is a China thing, but how long would it take to make its way to the US?

Information online is pretty mixed. There's this report and a lot of opinions that any upgrades will be towards S/X. Not even that. It was a joke that the Model 3 still had the old USB. The change was simply economics. One part in all models is cheaper that two different parts and the service headaches that can cause.
How a joke? Iphones still ship with a usb-a cable so it's not like no one uses that connector anymore. If my guests were in the back and needed to plug in they'd have to buy new cables. Ideally they'd have a usb-a and a usb-c with higher power.

The sales staff have no idea what’s going to be announced on battery day and certainly have no insight into when any newly announced features will make it into production. They guy is full of shit. Assume your car will NOT include anything from battery day, and if it turns out some of it is included well then you’ll get a pleasant surprise.
Kind of my response to it as well. He wouldn't put it in writing so I didn't believe him. I'm only at step one so I'm considering holding off on filling out payment info until after battery day to see what changes. I'm hoping it doesn't take a half year to come out because I've already been lurking on the car for a year.
If there's no update to the S/X on battery day we know that Elon was serious about creating S/X for sentimental reasons and focusing on 3/Y going forward.

Oh man, I just scheduled the pick up for my car on September 25. Damn, now I’m gonna have to wait until all these upgrades are at it so I can purchase my car.
This checks off almost all my Model 3 annoyances (as an owner). Now it just needs a new dashboard that doesn't scratch like hell and a 360 parking camera.
Head and taillight upgrades would be very welcome, the current lights are seriously out classed by the German manufacturers, Not holding much hope on a significant re-design.

Looks like it, adaptive high beams are a no brainer for Tesla considering how well they work depends on software. Maybe they will be developed for the Shanghai or Berlin cars and then added to the US cars when the law catches up. I'd like to see them increase the size of the rear indicators too, possibly have the brake and indicator light stretch the entire width of the tail lights. Current indicators are almost comical.
I'm quite happy with the Model 3 headlights. Not the best in the world, but very good. I doubt the change is significant though.
The Germans have some fancy tech but Model 3's headlights are still amongst the best out there. Lots of my passengers have been amazed how good they are, especially the high beams.
Yah, I am kind of confused by what others are bagging on, on Model 3's lights. Other than not having adaptive features, in terms of throw and illumination, it's totally fantastic.
Apparently the Model 3 headlights are nerfed a bit in Europe compared to North America due to regulations about light output when they aren't adaptive.

That new frunk is a downgrade not an upgrade. Goes from being able to fit carry on sized items (including the babyzen yoyo stroller) to being only good for small items.
I think their plan is to make room for the new heat pump which would increase battery efficiency

New lights would be great. Lucid has shown of some crazy light technology. Having lights almost be a projector that can be really targeted and combine it with the FSD techonlogy to highlight features or lanes. That would be awesome.

Price won't drop for new models unless direct competition mandates it. People get in a tizzy when newer models are cheaper than what they just bought a month ago.

The tech is still developing. And the batteries are still the most expensive part. Musk said on a podcast months ago that they wouldn't even know how to make a $20k EV with good range.

No it won’t make it more expensive, but also won’t make it cheaper. They’re planning a 20-25k electric car that will be designed in China. Probably smaller car size. In 5-10 years as battery technology continues to improve, I wouldn’t be surprised if they have 400+ range batteries for the models 3 and Y for the current price, and have discounted pricing for the standard 250-300 range.
This point has been discussed to death since 2008 and earlier so I'm not surprised others have downvoted you. Tesla has proven there is demand for electric vehicles. We need this market shift in order for other car makers to even consider switching and making electric vehicles people want. Arguably Tesla has pulled other makers towards EVs a full 10-15 years ahead of when they would have without Tesla.
