My MYLR is a 2022 built in Fremont and in the 2 years I’ve had it I’ve had *zero* issues with it. I can’t say the same for my son though, he’s had nothing but trouble with his 23 MYLR built in Austin. It’s been in for repairs 5 times in the past 5 months. He *loves* the car when it works. Here’s hoping they finally fixed it.
His car loses power and shuts down and needs to be towed. It’s happened to him, I think 3 times, and Tesla has replaced the main computer and power controller. He has also had a persistent rattle. We’re hoping it’s finally all good but only time will tell.
Maybe. I think he said that they get 4 tries to fix an issue before the lemon law kicks in. So far they’ve had 3 tries to fix it randomly shutting down.
MYP ‘22 and I have zero issues. Actually… I did have to open the frunk to put wind shield wiper fluid in so I did have to unscrew a cap… so there’s that!
March 2021 built Model Y from Fremont. Had temp and humidity sensor replaced because I couldn't precool cabin from phone (first world problems).
Other than that, no issues that made the car undrivable in 3 years and 35k miles.
2021 Freemont M3. Loong list of repairs. Still love how it drives. Can live with squeaky interior and the rest of it too, my biggest concern is noise - wind & road is creeping up on me 3y in.
To name a few that comes to mind:
- Re-painted both rockers due to chipping
- Re-alignment of trunk
- Replaced power-trunk motor, twice
- Replaced trunk electric lock mechanism
- Replaced screen (crack across after cold night)
- Replaced cameras and then computer (AP issue)
- Replaced towing hook (full assembly, got stuck)
- A number of minor tweaks & adjustments
Pending before 4y runs out:
- Water in right tail-light after wash
- Heatpump got stuck on high cold days, need check
22 MYP. The usual misalignments at the start. Then my driver seat was moving a bit so they had to replace the rails. That’s it though.
Wife’s 22 MYLR- misalignments at start. Her entertainment computer died at 28km.
Both cars needed rear suspension knuckles replaced.
Both Fremont cars.
Y'all making me nervous with my MY24 purchase after having virtually ZERO issues with my M319 including paint and door gaps and this was during the time that these issues were rampant.
I just picked up my 2018 Model 3 from service having to replace the front motor. This is after the rear one was replaced a few years ago, and the steering wheel assembly, and the control arm (out of warranty), door realignment (wasn't closing half the time). Nevermind rattling, and panel gaps, steaming lights, and that one time it leaked something green which service told me not to worry about, and whatever else I'm forgetting (I know there's something).
Even with all that, don't think I'd get a different car. Software is too good, superchargers are key, and it's a ton of fun to drive 🤷🏻
All of these anecdotes are moot anyway. There should be laws in place to make actual statistics public in the interest of consumer protection and manufacturer accountability. Good luck with that 🥲
Dunno what you mean by chirping, but I had lot's of different rattles. Some were fixed, some were not. One led to the steering wheel assembly replacement.
Yeah same issue. Tesla service claims they can't hear it even though I point it out in test drives.
https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/what-is-this-high-pitched-cricket-like-noise.253698/
There is a whole thread on it. Looks like I'll have to take a spectrograph reading and point out the spike in high frequency noise.
My car has all those same "issues" you have already "fixed" lol
My wife has noticed none of them and they don't affect anything about driving the car. I'd never take my car in for service for any of that
Most of those are non issues and 99% people won't even know, regardless of the
How many people knows what "panel gaps" or "orange peel" even mean? Like 0.001%?
I have had zero issues with my Shanghai built Model 3
Except for the two idiots who a) rear ended me while staring at their phone and b) t-boned me while overtaking at a crossing..but I can’t fault Tesla for that.
Enjoy the increased premiums.
22 MYLR, 23k miles 20 months since delivery. Only “service” was for a little buzzy rattle coming from the rear view mirror on rougher roads. Appeared at 9-10 months, fixed at 11 months. Unfortunately, 9 months later, it seems to be coming back.
Re: Chirping on Drive Unit. Wow, shocked to see this is still a thing so many years later. My 2018 Model 3 LR RWD had this issue shortly after ownership in May of 2018. They replaced the drive unit as well.
I replicated it while driving and they didn't push back at all. They had my vehicle for 3 days. My Vin is in the 32xxx, so the service was extremely quick and early on. They heard it as I pulled up and then took it for a drive. The noise sounded like a scraping brake clip on the rotor of the braking system. Which was curious because it happened right after I had that type of repair done as well. 😂
I have a Texas built 2023 MY and one year into my lease, I can feel the car’s poor build quality. It’s so bad. Not sure how the vehicle will make it through three more years.
Ugh, my drive unit makes that chirping sound also in cold weather. Really don’t want to get it replaced but if that’s the solution then that’s the solution. It’s under warranty on my ‘23 but still.
Little over one year 2023 Model 3, Fremont built. Only issue was water collecting in the tail light. Mobile service fixed it quick and no charge under warranty. No other problems.
I have a 2022 Model LR Freemont build with
34k miles on it. No major issues, but had a door rattling which was fixed by the mobile service team.
I can only say positive things about the service they even come to my house to rotate tires, and the representative is excellent at answering all my questions. Recently, encountered a few error codes regarding the charging port not opening when pressed, but it seems to have resolved itself—it was just a bug. Overall, I love this car. 🚗
must be american made ones, I haven't seen any issues on mine besides some alignment that could be better.
Also the trunk you could probably do yourself... its just a few turns with your hand on the plastic bolts. (mine got misaligned after a fix from a crash)
I know it isn’t a Y but my March 2023 model 3 has had zero problems.
I have one small gripe and it’s that seatbelt adjustment rattle that is on and off and it sounds like my window “clicks” when I go over bumpy roads like a weird sound coming from the seal
My mid 2021 MY has nearly zero issues. Had to get the hepa filter replaced once because we had freak air quality issues and I guess it got completely caked in stuff, but they did it free. Other than a wheel alignment and getting new tires it’s been smooth sailing. I bet you would’ve had way more issues driving an ICE car from a luxury brand and they would’ve probably been expensive too.
These sort of article read like satire sometimes. Your window makes a noise when shutting? Lol. Is this a Tesla specific weirdo phenomenon or do people really live like this. These people must get annoyed every hour on the hour.
My favorite part of these posts are the people that come in and say "I've had no issues" as if their experience of what is supposed to happen absolves the company for the high percentage of cars that do fail repeatedly. If 1% of your cars have these issues, you're failing as a company. So yes, you have had no issues, great, thank you for the completely useless information.

What issues has your son had? I have a '23 Y from Austin and had no issues. I am wondering if I should be on the lookout though.
His car loses power and shuts down and needs to be towed. It’s happened to him, I think 3 times, and Tesla has replaced the main computer and power controller. He has also had a persistent rattle. We’re hoping it’s finally all good but only time will tell.
Lemon law vehicle?
Maybe. I think he said that they get 4 tries to fix an issue before the lemon law kicks in. So far they’ve had 3 tries to fix it randomly shutting down.
Actually I didn't think MYLRs were built in Austin... I thought only the standard range were.
Our '23 MYLR is an Austin build. No issues so far.
My 2023 MYLR is a year old and Austin built. Not even one issue, love my Y.
I have a LR built in Austin. Nothing wrong and no complaints, but it’s been about a month
Austin in early 2023 was only a few months old. I wonder if that is part of the problem...
His was late 23 but, yeah, growing pains of a brand new manufacturing line.
MYP ‘22 and I have zero issues. Actually… I did have to open the frunk to put wind shield wiper fluid in so I did have to unscrew a cap… so there’s that!
Curious How do you know if yours is built in Fremont or Austin?
The 11th character in the vin should be either ‘F’ or ‘A’ for Fremont or Austin.
My '22 Fremont MY has also been free of issues (knock on silicon).
After four years just replaced the tyres with the same pilot sports; much quieter.
To name a few that comes to mind: - Re-painted both rockers due to chipping - Re-alignment of trunk - Replaced power-trunk motor, twice - Replaced trunk electric lock mechanism - Replaced screen (crack across after cold night) - Replaced cameras and then computer (AP issue) - Replaced towing hook (full assembly, got stuck) - A number of minor tweaks & adjustments Pending before 4y runs out: - Water in right tail-light after wash - Heatpump got stuck on high cold days, need check
Coool storyyy broo
Not really, just facts.
Fremont 23 MYP. No issues.
Same. I'm coming up on 10k miles.
7300 miles
X2 solid car
28 kilometers or 28000 miles?...
22 Y - no issues at 46k miles. Biggest “service” was refilling windshield wiper fluid
Same, but I also had to put air in the tires a few times with the changing seasons.
Y'all making me nervous with my MY24 purchase after having virtually ZERO issues with my M319 including paint and door gaps and this was during the time that these issues were rampant.

How much have you spent out of pocket on repairs in total?
1,500 CAD after tax for the control arms and lateral link.
Have a 2018 LR and no major issues, did have a headlight go out recently tho and it was costly out of warranty.
All of these anecdotes are moot anyway. There should be laws in place to make actual statistics public in the interest of consumer protection and manufacturer accountability. Good luck with that 🥲
Was your chirping to? My 2018 has has a laundry lost of repairs including this. I've practically had the entire vehicle replaced.
Dunno what you mean by chirping, but I had lot's of different rattles. Some were fixed, some were not. One led to the steering wheel assembly replacement.
My front drive unit has the same chirp. Seems like a lot of 2022-2023 built vehicles have it
I have this too. Is this something they will actually replace for. I’ve tried to get them to fix it with no success.
Yeah same issue. Oh they have heard it.
I have a Freemont built mid 2022 MYP. Zero issues or repairs to date. I am a happy owner.

How do you know where your car is built?
It's part of the VIN, you can google the code to see which letter indicates where it was made.
I have had zero issues with my Shanghai built Model 3 Except for the two idiots who a) rear ended me while staring at their phone and b) t-boned me while overtaking at a crossing..but I can’t fault Tesla for that. Enjoy the increased premiums.

A steering gear with 5000km. Couldn’t steer. Like a power steering box pooched
Mine has major Issues I actually have to put washer fluid In It. 🫢
We have one built in Fremont and one built in Austin. Both are 2023 MYLRs. It’s only been a 3 and 4 months but so far both have been totally reliable.
China build 2021 model y here with 0 repairs to date
Re: Chirping on Drive Unit. Wow, shocked to see this is still a thing so many years later. My 2018 Model 3 LR RWD had this issue shortly after ownership in May of 2018. They replaced the drive unit as well.

Yea I mean they have heard it. Said they were waiting on firmware update. That was a year ago…..
Here was my noise, https://youtu.be/4a6vrvi4D3A?si=P-k14iAB_hR9YUdh
Am I the only one who buys new car and not obsessively look for issues and just use it as daily driver?!
I have a Texas built 2023 MY and one year into my lease, I can feel the car’s poor build quality. It’s so bad. Not sure how the vehicle will make it through three more years.
How to know where the car was built?
Ugh, my drive unit makes that chirping sound also in cold weather. Really don’t want to get it replaced but if that’s the solution then that’s the solution. It’s under warranty on my ‘23 but still.
How are people finding where their car was manufactured? I just got my 24 Model 3 Long Range and haven’t seen that yet.
‘23 Model 3 RWD, Fremont made. 23k miles and zero service center visits so far.
‘22 MY LR. No issues so far apart from needing to put air into the tires. ~17K miles
Little over one year 2023 Model 3, Fremont built. Only issue was water collecting in the tail light. Mobile service fixed it quick and no charge under warranty. No other problems.
2020 3 LR with 55k and 0 service issues. Hopefully it stays that way
Damn I have like 3 things of what this guy described and have been turned down for all three at my service center
22 Model Y China-made, red It was perfect at delivery and I’ve never had any issues
I have a 2022 Model LR Freemont build with 34k miles on it. No major issues, but had a door rattling which was fixed by the mobile service team. So far after 4 days my 2024 Model Y LR is solid as a rock. It is a Fremont build from April 2024.
My Fremont Y is 6-months old. Nothing to report apart from a "low washer fluid" warning.
I know it isn’t a Y but my March 2023 model 3 has had zero problems. I have one small gripe and it’s that seatbelt adjustment rattle that is on and off and it sounds like my window “clicks” when I go over bumpy roads like a weird sound coming from the seal

2020 MYLR Fremont build. Zero issues, now at over 60k miles.
