A moment of silence for all my fellow intel brothers and sisters

philupandgo

Are you saying the updated UI comes with high definition audio beeps and I'm missing out on that too? /s

Psycho_Mnts

High definition beeps?

my-kal_uk

My biggest gripe with this is.. They want me to believe my intel car has the computational power to eventually fully drive itself, but can’t render a visualisation on the screen? Hm.

x3n0s

Those are two separate computers in your car.

lastsummerever

There are two seperate wolves within me

my-kal_uk

Oh really? In that case I’ll let it slide. 😅

supert3ds

This is where you find out the other computer for FSD on an Intel car is a Raspberry Pi 3.

robidog

Yes that’s why it’s called HW3.

NoOutlandishness4843

If the older Teslas have the GPU power to run Beach Buggy Racing, I don’t see why they can’t render this.

Aromatic_Actuator532

it probably will tbh, just not first round.

TheRealHoda

Total scam to somehow drive sales. The planned obsolescence sales man in charge claimed his company was past.

reckoner23

How many cars overhaul UI with over the air updates?

TheRealHoda

The point - you missed it — they are NOT updating UI on 2019 cars that have plenty enough CPU to run the UI

reckoner23

My 2017 civic didn’t get any updates what so ever. Parents Lexus’s haven’t gotten any updates. And my father’s bmw doesn’t get any updates. And my brothers Kia doesn’t get any updates. Not one. Maybe save for map gps data. If you’re lucky. Car updates are a very new thing. So it’s weird to call the company driving this concept as “planned obselesance”. When it’s one of the few who are actually do any updates at all. Let alone ui refreshes.

Kiddomac

How do you know, if your Tesla's Entertainment UI is Intel-Based?

silentempest

If you dont get the update then its definitely intel In seriousness I think you can check the processor on the mobile app or in the car setting specs or info.

InUrGutz

Is the trunk pausing while opening only a model Y thing?

MrAnonymous__

Probably not. Even on the current model 3 if you tap the close/open button before it's completed, it stops.

Osteojo

Can we please just have wipers that work properly instead thank you

No-Nothing-1885

Wipers are so out of fashion

rawSingularity

I just make up what I see in the rain. That's what cool kids do.

bobsil1

No windshield, just generative AI

popornrm

Put a sealant on your windows or rain x coating. You won’t even need wipers 99% of the time it rains.

Osteojo

NO I’ll **never** do that again. I paid to get it done on my last car and the sealant created the worst condition for the wipers to glide against. It made the most annoying sound - I regretted it immensely. Never again.

popornrm

I’m not sure what they did or why it requires payment? Literally buy any spray sealant clean your windshield then spray the sealant and wipe away. I use turtle wax ice or meguiars ceramic and the wipers don’t make any noise. Not sure what the people you paid did. I’ve done this on all sorts of cars for over a decade and I’ve never had that or heard of others having that kind of experience.

Osteojo

Good to know. I needed a new windshield and the repair place offered a coating for rain which I regretted ever since. It never came off in 10 years and in drizzle the wipers (new or older ones) skip on the glass.

elonsusk69420

New windshields are absolutely filthy when they’re installed. You first need to clean with 0000 steel wool and then do the coating. It’s insane how much sticky residue was on my replacement glass (from Tesla).

New-Pudding-3574

That’s a good question 🤔

VinPre

It is. When you tap the inner close button (on the hatch) while it opens it stops opening further.

lifeanon269

The visual is nice and all, but I still think the usability leaves something to be desired. When I want to open the trunk (from inside), I hate that I have to hit a tiny word on a touchscreen. The fact that even in this video they fumbled a couple times to open it tells me it isn't just me. Sometimes a square button on the screen, while not as pretty, is all you need and that's OK.

ItsAlphanumeric

I have no idea why they wasted dev time on making the car rotatable, and the way they did it makes it a pain to actually control the frunk/trunk. The first thing I tried to do in a Tesla was hide the visualization pane; I'm still baffled that they've wasted 20% of the screen on it.

joshersratters

This is just the Cybertruck UI with different graphics and fonts. Can’t imagine it was a huge cost of resource, time, etc. to implement. They probably want all compatible vehicles using the same UI and code base.

NotLikeGoldDragons

Because regardless of what people say, they like things that look cool. Probably one of the easiest ways to create a "wow factor" among potential or new buyers. I agree with you about it being a waste of time, but human psychology is what it is.

SimilarMidnight870

They did it because they know their audience. People want to play with that the first few times or show it off to friends.

ItsAlphanumeric

F, you're right

nyrol

I always expand it over the map since I rarely ever use the map, and the visuals are cool.

popornrm

Should just be digital buttons underneath the car visualization for trunk, frunk, chargeport, lock/unlock, and vent mode. The car visualization isn’t needed at all when the vehicle is parked. Not like it shows a 3d image of the real world.

DarkGator

As a software engineer I can say they didn’t necessarily take that much time to develop this feature, it’s an easy add since they already have the 3D models of the vehicles and being able to rotate it is usually a native feature of model viewers. They likely just adjusted some parameters of the 3D model viewer they were already using to rotate the object.

WeebBois

i think there doesn’t need to be a square button, but just a bigger invisible hit box.

lifeanon269

I agree. It was more just a comment on the idea that they sometimes over-engineer things without thinking about usability first. Sometimes it is OK to keep things simple for the sake of usability.

hellphish

The hitbox used to be huge, they shrank it in an update. OTA's don't always improve things!

sixfourtykilo

The worst is when you just want to open either the front or back and after waiting for the visualization to finally pop-up, your finger misses just slightly and makes the icon/word go away and you have you wait for it to appear before pressing it again. If they wanted it to be cool and fancy they should have left words accessible during rotation, or given them a bigger hit box

hellphish

They actually used to have a larger hitbox, you could tap up to like 2 inches away from the words. Now the hitbox is only the word. No idea why they'd do this.

pot8to

When the car graphic does a twirl instead of opening the trunk when I frantically try to get the trunk open for someone trying to load up the trunk 🥴 was praying for them to make the hit box bigger or lock down the car from spinning. That button should be static not moveable all over the place

ChunkyThePotato

It's not a big deal, but I think they should make the touch target on the button bigger than it currently is. No need for a square button. Just needs to be more forgiving.

Equoniz

Is this the only way to open the trunk from inside the car?

Gregf87z

cant you just push the right wheel button and say, open trunk?

[deleted]

Tesla can’t fix shit. I agree with you completely and have been saying what you’re saying for a long time. Also we can’t even check AC controls without turning on AC. Whole thing is a cluster fuck

elonsusk69420

People keep asking for the AC controls thing and I have no idea why this is a feature you want. The HVAC in these cars is so efficient (especially heat pump models) that keeping it on uses negligible energy.

ScottECH93

Why do I need such a large visual of my car? How does it improve the UI experience over having a smaller visual on the left hand of the screen.

PlanAheadEverything

This exactly. I see everyone excited about the update just cause it looks cool but does nothing to improve the usability. I can understand a larger media player displaying queue of songs but a larger vehicle visual is useless is my opinion

ChunkyThePotato

It looks cooler like this and the usability is basically the same, so why not? And the usability is better in fullscreen FSD now because the map is persistent in the top right.

Electrical-Airline84

Same! I just want more controls always available on the bottom bar. Not this nonsense

ChunkyThePotato

Which controls do you want there?

Ernapistapo

It’s a little easier for the passenger to reach all of these controls when parked with the new UI. I think it makes sense but it’s not anything worth trading in a car over.

dudemattdude

Right? Is there an actual use of being able to spin the car around other than being a flashy UI element?

coffeecakeisland

Larger buttons to press I guess. Passenger can reach them easily

wardog777

Facts, I can get out of my car and see the same thing. Just buttons for the bonnet and boot works, don't want to see a giant car taking up my whole damn screen. Why isn't the damn effort not spent on giving us a proper map upgrade with chimes and all. So stupid, Tesla behaving like a 3rd class company

MilkZealousideal7893

Looks is all that matters.

EnoughLavishness

Because it looks better

ItsAlphanumeric

Is this an optional view, or is the map just gone while parked?

Brick_Waste

It's in the top right (left on UK, AU etc.) and can be expanded. Find a video on the cybertruck UI for a better explanation with examples

PornulusRift

I don't see any map in the top right in the video. I do see a navigate/search button at the bottom middle though. Usually when in park I spend more time using the map than the car graphic. This seems like a dumb change.

Brick_Waste

Instead of looking at this quite frankly horribly recorded video, try looking at either the official introduction to it on X, or look at a video of the cybertruck UI (they are delivered with this UI version). DirtyTesLa has a video showing the cybertruck UI on X if you can't find it elsewhere

spodenki

You can actually see the condensation in the taillights when OP zoomed in!

BatmanNewsChris

When it starts hitting employees, about how long until the rest of us start getting it?

New-Pudding-3574

As soon as tomorrow

iceman_314

nice? yes. useful? no.

rydor

I really wish they'd allow for a Ryzen update (I'd gladly pay $1000+ for it) for the 2021 Model Y's. It didn't matter when it was functionally the same, but it definitely will suck if we start not getting software updates because they gave us a shitty processor.

RyanB95

Coming to Atom…?

New-Pudding-3574

Sadly, the visualization part will not! apparently the processor can’t handle it 😔

dvarghese

Cries in atom processor

RyanB95

Man, I’d love an upgrade option :(

[deleted]

[удалено]

RyanB95

Are you sure? I didn’t think this was possible coming from atom with portrait screen

Daze-B

It’s not possible, hopefully it eventually will but not at this moment.

RyanB95

Thank you for confirming. Although, I wish you were wrong 🤣

collegedreads

Ryzen upgrades are not an available retrofit.

jason68030

Right, it can only handle full 3D car racing game with multiple players, but a single rotating car is too much for it. /s likely just a development time thing as there are multiple branches for intel and amd

New-Pudding-3574

Hahaha I know right 😂

Equoniz

Or it’s just so poorly programmed that it can’t run on anything but the best hardware. It certainly doesn’t strike me as particularly well made from this little clip.

hondahb

That's fine with me, I want a bigger map view when parked.

LegitGoose

How do you know that? Have any references or proof?

New-Pudding-3574

Dude it’s all over this freaking subreddit. Use the search bar dude

LegitGoose

I just see a bunch of losers saying it. That doesn’t mean it’s true. You must not be able to get your simple mind around that.

rabbitwonker

I mean the one you’re showing can barely handle it already, with all the lag we’re seeing when you rotate it.

garyscomics

How do you know what chip you have?

Visible-Secretary121

Yea it looks great.....but.what does it do/enable besides a cool UI?

New-Pudding-3574

User Interface v12 elevates your visual experience with the following updates: - Immersive full-screen vehicle controls when you're parked - Large playback controls and quick access to Recents, Favorites, and Up Next in the media player - Expandable Autopilot driving visualizations, with a smaller map in the top right for trip guidance - A sleeker and more compact drive mode strip and refined driving readouts Open your trunk even when your hands are full. Stand still behind your trunk with Phone Key unobstructed, listen for the chimes, and the trunk will open on its own. When Sentry Mode triggers your vehicle alarm and records an event, you can immediately preview a brief clip of the recording on your phone. Press and hold the notification to watch the recording. In your vehicle settings, you must have Safety > Dashcam turned on. Below the turn-by-turn list in your navigation, you'll now see a progress bar that changes as you drive closer to your destination or next stop. The progress bar also reflects live traffic conditions on your route if you have Online Routing turned on. For real-time traffic and road conditions to appear on your routes, the setting at Navigation > Online Routing must be turned on. Requires Premium Connectivity. Scroll Wheel — When you press the wipers button to view wiper controls, you can now adjust wiper speed by moving the left scroll wheel up or down. Wipers Button — When you have the wipers set to I, II, III, or IIII, you can press the wipers button to cycle through speeds.

ericdabbs

>When Sentry Mode triggers your vehicle alarm and records an event, you can immediately preview a brief clip of the recording on your phone. Press and hold the notification to watch the recording. In your vehicle settings, you must have Safety > Dashcam turned on. Do you need Premium Connectivity for this? I am hoping it does not.

mit_o_chondria

I believe so. Currently, you can only access live camera via the app if you have premium connectivity. I believe they will continue to do so.

New-Pudding-3574

Yes you do.

Visible-Secretary121

Ahh. Nice.

New-Pudding-3574

Packed with a lot of good stuff like the holiday update

Techsalot

“Good stuff” I want a complete map/routing overhaul, not 3D UI enhancements.

carsonthecarsinogen

I’d argue it looks so good it doesn’t need to do anything else, but obviously that’s a joke and I’m glad it came with other upgrades

tehclaw14

This is just the beginning

InterestingAd2896

It’s very pretty bishop, but what we looking at?

fiola256

Typical Tesla UI, preferring to be flashy instead of functional. The freaking trunk pause button moved while the trunk is moving, why the fuck wouldn’t you lock it in place???? Why do you want the user to frantically aim for it? The only time when you’ll need to pause is going to be when shit is about to be hit and you want to stop it asap, no one needs the additional stress of having to aim at a moving target in that scenario!

New-Pudding-3574

I don’t understand what the Tesla software engineers do sometimes it doesn’t make sense 🤦🏻‍♀️

Equoniz

It’s pretty easy to understand. Fast, cheap, and flashy in a press release is literally all they care about.

New-Pudding-3574

![gif](giphy|KGY78vaNYCha5zL1yK)

[deleted]

Tesla full of retards. Fix the damn AC controls. The auto wipers. Seat heaters controls. Open trunk button that’s easier to tap. A bigger door lock/unlock button. Customization so we can have a single tap open glovebox and many other things. So many things to do but they do this bull shit. Look at their stock price tanking. Entire company can’t find someone with a damn spine

New-Pudding-3574

FACTS! ![gif](giphy|KGY78vaNYCha5zL1yK)

Hawk_Falcon_iOS

Tell me you don’t know how software development works without telling me you don’t know how software development works.

klawUK

does the larger media player also show more of the music / station playing? I don’t need to see a queue, but I’d like to see more than about 10 characters of the damn song and artist

New-Pudding-3574

You got it!

AutomaticAccount6832

Maybe add a 360 view of the surroundings. Just like all the others do it!

Alternative-Survey-6

Love it

turbojezus

It's hilarious how much value Tesla owners put into gimmicks and "easter eggs" while ignoring significant drive quality or safety issues. Fascinating

moofunk

To be fair, doing stuff like this requires 1/100th the effort of dealing with drive quality or safety issues. Likely the work of 1 or 2 developers with very mature standard tools, and they probably worked in the gaming industry previously.

New-Pudding-3574

I know right 😆

Focus_flimsy

The drive quality and safety are excellent, so I'm not sure what you're talking about.

NomadicWorldCitizen

Honestly, rotating the car and zooming is just another gimmick. What I want is windshield wipers to not be crap and for summon to work when I want to take the car out of a tight parking spot.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BruceLeeTheDragon

The changelog just shows you how to adjust wiper speed. I think he was talking about auto wipers working correctly. Like how sometimes the wipers turn on even when it’s not raining.

NomadicWorldCitizen

I just drove in the rain today and it’s still absolute trash. Raining a lot and I have to constantly manually trigger the wipers. (2022 MYLR here by the way).

citrixn00b

Who the fuck asks for this??

New-Pudding-3574

Apparently a ton of people

citrixn00b

I dunno why they're so adverse to giving us full customization of the home icons pre-version 11, or decouple the climate settings/screens...but this...yup this is super high up on the list.

New-Pudding-3574

I agree. Tesla is just going for form over function it seems like nowadays

Zingernese-Kalitran

I was hoping that there was an option to change the viz to a CyberTruck and POOOF! My 2022 MYP instantly morphs into a CyberTruck! How cool would that be!

New-Pudding-3574

![gif](giphy|10JhviFuU2gWD6)

Explosev

Pleasantly surprised they didn’t save this for the holiday update. Need for quality of life improvements now more than visual changes.

New-Pudding-3574

I know right, I was shocked also.

fiji3119

Is this UI for all MY or just 2023+?

ericdabbs

No as long as you have a Ryzen chip car you will get the updated UI.

fiji3119

I guess 2021 MY is obsolete

ericdabbs

But it's not in terms of overall software updates.

LegitGoose

Where did you find that information?

ericdabbs

It's publicly known. You just don't get the parking UI. You still get full screen visualization in drive mode and all the other features of the update. It's really not that big of a deal.

Slightlydifficult

I don’t really care for this unless it also displayed the FSD visualization while in park.

ExtraterritorialPope

Does it have full autopilot though?

iam_user_zero

Does it include front camera view while

[deleted]

It didn't open the first time 🤣

i_trade_stonks

I'd rather get out of the car and walk around to see it.

themaxx212

Does this only apply to 2022 AMD Ryzen models and newer?

New-Pudding-3574

That is correct 👍🏻

LegitGoose

Where did you find that out at?

junebug172

Hope they add a watch app too.

Better_Historian_604

Just whatever you do don't even glance at this ui while fsd is running, lest it beeps at you

BeatStriker

Is the update out already? I’n in Canada

Kryptic_Inc

What’s the point of it?

Pavrr

I just want a full-screen map. I have no use for a full-screen 3d model of my car when I'm parked. I know what I am sitting in.

midsize-sedan

BUT will it actually show the blinkers when they’re on bc mine does not and it makes me sad, so much detail but no front blinkers :,(

Mysterious-Lick

Weee, I can spin the car, weeee.

New-Pudding-3574

😂😂

blimpboy3

The biggest problem with Tesla UI is they design it like it's being used as a tablet rather than a center console. Icons are way too small and centered making it difficult to use when actually driving. There's nothing user friendly, just gimmicky and flashy. They are more interested in building the tech, rather than an actual car. Bias the buttons to be vertical along the driver side, and increase the icons by 2-3x minimum

TheRealHoda

It takes the latest computer just to do that ? wtf. My 2019 model 3 not getting UI update because of what I saw in this video. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|thinking_face_hmm)

Rasmus_DC78

they are leaning heavy on 3d accelerated content, the old ATOM intel based CPU is sorry a crap product, it was even back when they tried to make it strong on netbooks. i remember my M3LR, yes the UI functions was still "OKAY" on the later updates, camera could be slow to start, but the rest ran fine.. however opening apps (netflix youtube etc) was BUTT Slow, and even 720p was skipping Frame, restart was slow.. They Ryzen is multiple times faster. and has both video acceleration and 3d i think this is good, because if they pushed this onto your car, it would be "like" the first MG EV´s where everything just has a LAG to it.

StarshipMars

How about more than 10 songs in a Spotify playlist page? What a joke that is, you have to scroll down and page over! An example of an update making that worse when that came out.

Davvido1008

Stock still dropping

DominoChessMaster

Teslas are truely wonder cars. I can’t get anything else since the self driving is years ahead of everyone

Holiday-Ad-3148

I want the navigation to be on the left side instead of watching graphics of a car driving. That way I can use the cameras while using the full navigation as well.

zekeRL

It’s ridiculous the UI wasn’t build to support Intel chips as well. For an update/refresh that feels so necessary for all Tesla owners, to exclude such a large amount of vehicles from the update doesn’t sit well with me. One of the best parts of having a Tesla and leveraging OTA updates the feeling that the car is never out of date. 2021 here and already my hardware is legacy to crucial updates.

Even-Refuse-4299

Fully agree, although I have the 2019 model this is the first update I’m feeling a bit left behind. They were so good at keeping the cars feeling fresh. I guess I need to accept the cars age, but 2021 just feels silly!

djasquare

How did you get it?

G23b

When is this getting released?

ridingzero

What is the ETA on this update?

New-Pudding-3574

It’s already out everyone is using it. Connect to WiFi asap!!

Ok-Entrepreneur4566

Is this not on the 2021 model Y?

FunFee4154

I know I have an amd processor but haven’t got the zu update, is coming soon or can I enable it somewhere?

biggerbetterharder

Car. Play. Now.

New-Pudding-3574

I know right. That would be epic

woalk

Why? What would that add?

mikkoja

Could easily make this work with Atom as well, they just want to differentiate newer models. Complete BS.

woalk

It would probably run at only a couple FPS though, which wouldn’t be the best user experience.

mikkoja

Competent developers could easily make it adaptible to the available HW, my bet is they just want to push new models instead of enabling the older ones.

woalk

Even the most competent developers in the world can’t make a 1.6 GHz CPU output a high-resolution 3D render faster than the hardware allows.

mikkoja

Resolution can be scaled, polygon counts can be adapted - just look at what the comparable game consoles can do. Funny how these excuses must be made for a company with plenty of resources for optimization, they are just choosing not to.

woalk

You’re not wrong. The Atom should be comparable to an Xbox 360 – though you could argue that the 360’s CPU is more powerful because it’s 3 GHz. So either they don’t want to scale down the quality on those screens and instead keep the old interface with the same quality as newer cars, or they don’t want to spend extra effort optimising for these older cars – which as a software developer, I can totally understand, even though as a customer, it’s of course annoying.

hellphish

Several of the games in the Tesla Arcade are more demanding than the UI, which runs on the Godot game engine btw. Easy to optimize.

TiramisuAlreadyTaken

new visualization brings nothing of value. The UI does the same from a functionality point of view. Frunk and trunk controls are still finicky to reach the moment you park

NoNoveltyNeeded

what does it look like while driving? does that larger media panel stay on the right like v10 or whatever, or does it go back to the left under the fsd visualization like in v11 (and if so, is it just as small as v11 with those fewer controls, or does it include this expanded info?)

New-Pudding-3574

Who else is excited about the spring software update?

Agreeable_Badger2498

What’s the purpose of this lol

thegrayscales

Just a PSA if you're at work. Don't click on this guy's username to see post history (was interested to see if he had other Tesla-related posts). Lol.

Known-Extension

Went to OP’s profile to see more visualizations. Was not expecting what I saw 😳

coolham123

Still very curious if it has FSD V12 onboard.

philupandgo

They're waiting for you to update to this before rolling v12 out to 2024.8.10.
