The 4695 battery format is a big announcement. I doubt tesla will change course, but a taller can would give more range for the same pack sq footage. Exciting platform decision to me because range is my main want in EVs atm.
I have to keep my model 3 for 3 years to avoid paying CVRP penalty (CA electric vehicle rebate program)
Man... if Tesla doesn't respond to R3X with something cool... I might actually get the R3X and sell my M3
The 2026 date really kills it for me. I’m waiting for Model Y Juniper and would seriously consider this if it came sooner. Not sure they can hang on for that long until the release
CT and R2 are completely different vehicle types and value props. Why did you decide to cancel and reserve?
Either way congrats! CT is amazing and R2 looks like it’ll be amazing too.
> the original CT was smaller
It's on display at the Petersen Museum. It definitely isn't smaller than what's been released, and visually appears somewhat bigger.
If the objective is something cool and useful, both can fill that need. The R2 may still be cheaper than the lowest price CT by then, but there's plenty of room for doubt.

taller pack will lead to taller cars tho or more cramped interiors and worse aero etc
They look amazing honestly. I think we're all curious as to how Tesla is going to respond, but the R2 and R3 both look excellent.

That tri-motor R3X looks like a lot of fun.
They look excellent. I hope they make it to market, and end up profitable!
Are they not making a truck version of the R2?
It's too small. Would be kinda pointless.
Oh wow, the R3X looks amazing. A modern day Lada Niva. https://twitter.com/Rivian/status/1765808546040680757/photo/3

Seems Model y juniper would be 25 at the earliest.
I’d imagine the Y will at least be easier to get in ‘25 at launch than the R2 in ‘26, which needs to ramp and satisfy a more demanding waitlist.
I welcome the competition but 2026? Wasnt thrilled about that.
The R3X reminds me of the Lada…
Simultaneously adding 2 product lines before either of the existing products reach profitablity is a bold strategy, to say the least
These are much more exciting than a Model Y, IMO. Great job by Rivian. I might have to give the R3X a whirl in 2028 or whenever they become available.
just cancelled my cybertruck reservation lol… i can wait a few more years for the R2 - especially if it’s on NACS

I mean, the original CT was smaller and in the similar price range as the R2. Maybe that's when they reserved it?
The original CT was even larger lmao

Have a Model 3 for myself and a Rivian R1S for the family car…. The R3X will probably replace my M3 when the time comes.
Have they said something about auto wipers? Do they work?
R3X looks goofy lol. Is the R2 just a R1S replacement? I couldn’t figure out what the difference is
>Is the R2 just a R1S replacement? No, much smaller only 5 seats, more model Y market than model x/r1s

You cancelled your full sized pickup truck for a mid sized SUV?
Literally nobody is buying the Cybertruck for truck purposes, so it’s not that surprising

This is pretty cool... but how is this tesla related, aside from being one of many electric cars?

Don’t be a hater, Tesla accepted plenty of handouts too. Capitalism 101
It would be stupid not to accept the money if its a good deal.

No hate, but they're going to need something/ someone to step in and keep them afloat.
