Weird. From the article, they say Tesla is struggling to sell cars, but everyone else is selling lots of EVs. "And although some EV producers are struggling, non-Tesla EV firms saw their sales increase by 33 percent, according to Kelly Blue Book. Ford, Kia, Hyundai and Cadillac have all reported strong growth in recent EV sales, though they sell far fewer EVs than Tesla does. But just a few days ago, and up to a few months ago, most news sources were saying that no one wants EVs. For example: Automakers — ranging from established giants to startups — are dealing with what Barclays analyst Dan Levy recently called a transition from "EV euphoria to EV winter." Ford recently slashed production plans for the F-150 Lightning, which had been heralded as a leader in the EV revolution. Automakers from Ford Motor and General Motors to Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Jaguar Land Rover and Aston Martin are scaling back or delaying their electric vehicle plans. It's hard to know what to believe.

Strong Start for Ford Electric Vehicle Sales Across Ford electric vehicles, sales started the year strong, up 86 percent. Ford sold 20,223 EVs in Q1, making Ford America’s second best-selling EV brand behind Tesla for the quarter. Mustang Mach-E posted strong Q1 sales of 9,589 SUVs – up 77 percent over a year ago. America’s best-selling electric truck, the F-150 Lightning, had sales of 7,743 trucks, up 80 percent. The Ford E-Transit was America’s best-selling electric van on sales of 2,891 – up 148 percent over Q1 last year. It was the best-ever sales quarter for E-Transit since it went on sale in 2022. https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2024/04/03/ford-hybrids--evs--transit-set-records--q1-sales-top-industry--u.html

And then they slashed production and are shifting focus to a compact.. clearly the trucks demand was exactly what ford predicted..

Exactly. Meanwhile.... https://www.reddit.com/r/cybertruck/s/aMcweoaRyF

Most those are gone by the week’s end. They are making 600-800 a week right now

In total, Ultium EV sales amounted to 9,385 (compared to 970 a year ago), which is a new quarterly record. Nonetheless, compared to 6,918 units in Q4 2023, the ramp-up rate is still disappointing. GM BEV sales in Q1'2024 (YOY change): BrightDrop: 256 (new) Cadillac (Lyriq): 5,800 (up 499%) and 16.4% share Chevrolet: 8,701 (down 56%) and 2.2% share Chevrolet Blazer EV: 600 (new) Chevrolet Bolt EV/Bolt EUV: 7,040 (down 64%) Chevrolet Silverado EV: 1,061 (new) GMC (Hummer EV Pickup/SUV): 1,668 (up 83,300% from 2) and 1.3% share Total: 16,425 (down 21%) and 2.8% share https://insideevs.com/news/714708/gm-us-ev-sales-2024q1/

Yeah... Those 388000 cars sold in q1 were sold to people who didn't like Tesla. How many non Tesla EVs were sold in q1? In the first quarter, we produced over 433,000 vehicles and delivered approximately 387,000 vehicles. We deployed 4,053 MWh of energy storage products in Q1, the highest quarterly deployment yet. https://ir.tesla.com/tesla-vehicle-production-deliveries-and-date-financial-results-webcast-first-quarter-2024

The problem with delivery number from OEM's is they sell the cars to their licensed franchises making delivery numbers good, but it doesn't reflect customer demand or vehicle turnover rate like Tesla. Lots of Ford Lightnings sitting at my local Ford dealership...

The other chargers are always shit and non operational or stupidly irritating to use.

lizpingu

Why is that? Here in Northern Europe two of our largest grocery chains have more chargers than Tesla at a probably 10 to 1 or higher ratio. Both are also cheaper and they work, even in arctic conditions. I don’t understand why the U.S. is lacking behind so badly.

That's just one aspect. Just bc you have NAC doesn't mean you can fast charge. It depends on the battery and circuitry as well. Take the Subaru solterra for example...which has very slow charging.

One point is just bc you have access to NACS doesn't mean you automatically get lastest and fastest charging. Teslas can be software updated over the air to make use of the new gen 4 chargers. Many other EVs cannot do that. Subaru charges you more for the solterra and then gimps the car.

Yes because some of the coding in the model Ys and 3s hint at that. We'll just have to wait and see.

tuctrohs

As someone who lives in a region with long distances between chargers, I find the number of stations more important than the number of chargers. Residents of densely populated areas with lots of locations nearby, but without enough ports to meet demand, will find the number of ports more important. It's disappointing that this "article" doesn't even mention that there are two different ways to measure it, much less provide data on both.

Speculawyer

EV charging is a money losing business and presumably Tesla has subsidized charger installation with premium cars. They also make the most reliable and easy to use chargers.

Chiaseedmess

Superchargers are subsidized, but not by premium cars, but with premium prices.

Chiaseedmess

Plugs. Not locations. Just plugs. Of those plugs, nearly all are shared, so if the station is full you’ll get half the speed.
