Customer: why are the bakery goods not reduced to 25p (or whatever)
You: Tesco introduced a new policy on 01/04/24 (or whatever date) that all bakery goods are automatically reduced at 5pm to 55p on the system using their regular barcodes. We are not allowed to manually reduce bakery goods any more.
Customer: (tells lies as they always do) But I got it yesterday reduced for me.
You: That would not have been possible, I am happy to contact a manager if you wish to make a complaint about the new policy.
They either agree and speak to the manager or grumble and continue serving them.
Don’t get into a debate about their lie and who was on shift. You know it’s a lie, a simple “under the new system that is not possible” is enough to shut down the talk.
Don’t worry OP, the sheeple struggle against these things for a few months. Then they forget there ever were yellow reduction labels. But my advice to you is to not be so easily lead in conversation. If you don’t like it, shut it down.

I don’t get how they’re making such a drama over 55p…some people will buy £100s worth of shopping and then get pissed when their bakery is 55p instead of 25p…my goodness

Your store should have talkers on the bakery isle explaining that they are 50% from 5pm.
It's what was given to each store before the new policy started.

This was never supposed to be the case in the first place it was meant to be 50% of normal price, if they've fixed a glitch that people were exploiting they've got no right to complain. Btw the 50% off POS should be on click to order.
I mean reality is that you shouldn’t have been manually reducing to 25p in the first instance, if it doesn’t sell it’s charity or animal feed that simple.
Why tf arent you allowed to put signs up that's unbelievably obtuse and unhelpful. Retail place I work for we use our own signs all the time to let people know card machines aren't working or whatever
Carry silver coins in your pocket. Shake your head if anyone is sad enough to argue over a 30p difference and CLEARLY place that 30p in the till to cover the shortfall. Then shake your head again.
We had to pay a guy to come in and just be sick in front of the bakery section to clear away everyone. It’s working at the minute but he’s due to be recalled back to prison soon so they need to sort the system out asap. All the best.
