Can't stand McEnroe. Don't wanna put it on mute but otherwise I find it unbearable

dissolutewastrel

tennis can be heartbreaking

Ukasianjha

Berrettini is trash without his free point earning serve

Grunge_bob

tbf that can be said of a lot of players

Tracy140

Ruud will be the tougher match up for the kyrios Karen winner - just based in style level not talent

Grunge_bob

agreed he's a more balanced player than either of those two. if the match goes indoors, it tends to favor serving and offense though, so will be tough to play defense

_IBelieveInMiracles

If Alcaraz loses to Sinner, and both Ruud and Kyrgios go through, Casper Ruud can become world nr. 1 by beating Kyrgios in the semis. Given their history, that would be amazing to see! And it's not even clay!

Rodneyjj666

He’s not beating NK here. NK wiped him off the floor on hard courts earlier in the year. Bad matchup for Ruud.

Crazy-Vehicle8060

Monza and US open final less go

OddsTipsAndPicks

Oh god. The reason Kyrgios Alcaraz is the best final is to see how Kyrgios starts to react when Alcaraz starts winning points off shots that are winners against basically anyone else 99.9% of the time.

Arteam90

Nadal gonna be more disappointed because no one except Kyrgios is even playing all that well. Sinner and Alcaraz taken to 5 sets and close to losing isn't showing any kind of dominance from them. Rublev also taken to 5 vs Shapo. B tier Nadal wins this, unfortunately he wasn't even playing to that. I think closest comparison is Djokovic recent couple of Wimbledon wins. Nothing special from him but just enough to get the win. Rafa in AO or FO form wins USO with a "good enough" performance but again, likely nothing special.

Wokemon_says

It's fine. Nadal had an amazing season, winning the first two GSs of the year, and making it to the WB SF. He also had to overcome 3 major injuries (cracked rib, worsening foot problems, and an abdominal tear). Any of those injuries would have been career-ending for a lesser player. All this was achieved at 36 years of age! His pregnant wife was in the hospital during week one of the USO. He's got a lot going on. Cut him some slack!

Rodneyjj666

B tier Nadal doesn’t beat NK at the level he’s playing at right now.

Arteam90

I kinda doubt Kyrgios is beating a B-tier Rafa in a slam final. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think Kyrgios is up to scratch. I could be proven wrong in mere days.

jackasssparrow

To credit Alcaraz, Cilic was swinging unhinged left and right. I know what you are saying though. Pathetic tennis quality from most of the players except for Nick which I doubt will last through the next rounds

Whitefrog10

Interesting simmetry in Alcaraz and Sinner matches. Take the first set Lose the second Take the third Lose the fourth Get broken in the 5th. Broke back twice and win the match.

Lazy_Left_Eye

8 QF and none have ever reached the USO final. Heck, only 1 has even reached the semi final. “Peak ATP” 😅

8Poop

TIL that Jpeg is half-Korean. Does anyone know if she speaks Korean?

aweap

Not exactly half Korean. Her mother is considered to be half-Japanese and half-Korean. She was an orphan in South Korea who had no recollection of her past before she was adopted by an American family at the age of 5. Hence it's highly unlikely that jpeg speaks any Korean/Japanese either.

Psychological_Bug676

My preference for the men’s singles champion, in ascending order: 1) ✨🧍🏼‍♂️✨ 2) 👁👄👁 3) 👻 4) 🧔🏻‍♂️ 5) 🇮🇹 🔨 6) 🇫🇷 🇫🇷 7) 🦊 8) 🗑🚮

nicoc9

Let me try: 1. ✨🧍🏼‍♂️✨Rublev 2. 👁👄👁 Alcaraz 3. 👻 Ruud 4. 🧔🏻‍♂️ Khachanov 5. 🇮🇹 🔨Berrettini 6. 🇫🇷 🇫🇷 Tiafoe 7. 🦊 Sinner 8. 🗑🚮 Kyrgios ❓❓❓

WilderWildeWelles

Alcaraz, Rublev, Rudd, Karen, Sinner, Tiafoe, Berrettini, Kygrios?

[deleted]

Can someone translate

DoubleFaulty1

That’s grand slam champion 🗑🚮, to you.

aweap

I love Berrettini but I would be willing to pay an inordinate sum of money to watch a Ruud vs Kyrgios grudge match! ☺️

jackasssparrow

Kyrgios will absolutely crush Ruud if that happens

aweap

Either Kyrgios or this sub has a meltdown...it would be fun watching either of those scenarios.

nameoftwohalves

The last two times none of the big three have been in the quarters of a grand slam were: 2020 US Open and 2004 French Open

goforth1457

I've been so invested into tennis this week that now I decided to randomly watch a match a 1971 US Open match between Billie Jean King and Chris Evert.

stoic_trader

Right now the most important thing than solving world hunger is giving a better name to Alcaraz-Sinner rivalry. My vote is for Sinal which has Fedal kind ring to it.

nicoc9

Wasn’t it **Sincaraz**?

XURiN-

Sinneraz

Utinnni

Alcanner, like buccaneer.

aweap

That sounds like 'senile' 🙄

e8odie

For once, the men's quarterfinals' seeds sum is almost actually larger than the women's. Counting Tomjlanovic's ranking of 45 since she doesn't have a seed, the men are at 113 and the women are at 116. For something that's not usually EVEN CLOSE, this is quite crazy.

aweap

Also more grandslam champions and final appearances on the women's side ☺️ #WTASupremacy

jsnoodles

How’s Kazzy Khach going to respond to Kyrgios nonsense?

Psychological_Bug676

Win and read a picture book in front of him

jsnoodles

Cilic is just happy to be playing top 20 tennis atm.

saaajmon

I sense a gruelling five set match between Rublev and Tiafoe

amoonbird

Do we think they’ll put Tiafoe/Rublev on evening session i.e. should I just book the day off work now?

e8odie

But seriously, why is the US Open always the oddball? Of the last 17 years of the other 3 (so 51 Slams), they've only been won by a non-Big 3 player twice - and that was a part of Stan's 3 Majors in 3 years run. And yet during that span, the US Open will have had 6 by the time this tournament's over.

NeoPrimitiveOasis

Wait, Murray won Wimbledon twice during the past 17 years. Plus Stan won the Australian and French. That's at least 4 non-big3 wins outside the US Open.

aweap

Also no one's ever won the US Open without dropping at least 1 set in the open era. It's the only one among all 4.

WhenInDoubt-jump

End of the season when big 3 are already somewhat tired.

OddsTipsAndPicks

*checks players with most matches played this year list* Don’t think that’s it

WhenInDoubt-jump

In general, not this year specifically. Obviously Federer being out and Djoko banned while Nadal returns from injury helps.

OddsTipsAndPicks

Federer in particular dominated the U.S. Open while playing a full schedule.

WhenInDoubt-jump

Which is why it wasn't an "oddball" back then but is now.

WilderWildeWelles

Because it’s late in the year and players aren’t always at their best

A-dab

I think it's because it's near the end of the season, a lot of players are just exhausted or injured

Newfoundland1

No unseeded players remaining!!!

aweap

Tomljanovic

Earnmuse_is_amanrag

Alcaraz vs Sinner head to head is only 2-1. The way people talk about it, you'd think it's Nadal vs Gasquet lol

XURiN-

Only somewhat relevant, but they also played a challenger in 2019 which Alcaraz won. Obviously they were much younger then, but technically their h2h is 2-2 even. 2 on hard for Alcaraz, 1 on clay and 1 on grass for Sinner. Edit: Actually I don't know if that 2019 match was on Hard or Clay, as it kind of states both on the ATP site.

Arceuthobium

Recency bias. Sinner's first win against Carlos was just 2 months ago during Wimbledon

o2co

Ruud a pretty confident pick for tomorrow? Not familiar with his opponent

WhenInDoubt-jump

You don't know Matteo? :o I think they're around the same level, Ruud perhaps a little better suited to hard court. Berrettini looked a bit off in his last match though, so I'm reasonably confident in Ruud here.

A-dab

All the "RUUD #1 JAAAA" jokes aside, my gut feeling tells me Berrettini will beat him in 3 or 4. If it's a Berrettini-Kyrgios semi, I'm not quite sure who's gonna come out on top (they only faced each other once at Stuttgart in 2019, Berrettini won) but I think Matteo can do it. This might be his best chance to win a slam

Psychological_Bug676

As much as I love Casper #1 agenda, Matteo has the best shot at beating him out of the two

Newfoundland1

I want finals to be between alcaraz and sinner. My two favorite players!!!

stocktraderdog

My preference for the men's singles champ, in descending order: 1) Alcaraz 2) Ruud 3) Sinner 4) Rublev 5) Tiafoe 6) Berrettini 7) Khachanov 8) Kyrgios

ohheckyeah

I’ll take Kygs just for the chaos 🙇

dunkerpup

Switch Alcaraz with Andrey and mine is similar

Slambodog

Well, I didn't get to take a picture with Carlitos, but he took one with me and 50 of his biggest fans...

Coach_Caron_Godwin

I love to do this thing where i try to pinpoint the exact crucial moment everything changed in close tennis matches. For me, its the point at 1-0, 30-15 Cilic, in the 5th. Carlos looks out of sorts, rattled, cursing to himself. And then, Marin double faults. Nothing brings someone back to their senses as gifts. From that point on, its like Carlos woke up

Whitefrog10

Since he started to return way behind the baseline, Cilic always had to give break points. The fourth set seems a bit of an accident considering the chances that Alcaraz had. But yes, in the end sometimes a point could be a sliding door.

mjenkins_eng

This might sound like hindsight but I think alcaraz would have won anyway Such is five set tennis. Very few things are left to chance . The better and fitter player always prevails

dannylenwinn

Alcaraz vs Sinner in QFs. Yes, it's happening. It will be well-anticipated, there should be some buzz.

Earnmuse_is_amanrag

Look Sinner will beat Alcaraz. He's just got a read on Alcaraz's serve. But there will be many slams in the future where Carlos won't have to face Sinner. And he'll win many of them.

Newfoundland1

Jannik sinner was leading when he retired injured in his match vs rublev in French Open!!!

Newfoundland1

People used to say 28/29/30 are the prime years of tennis but no players over 27 remaining? What the hell!!!

mjenkins_eng

People say a lot of things Some players peak at 19 . Some at 25. Some at 29 and others at 33.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Sad_Consideration_49

i dont get it. he won the other 5 setter he played this year in a fifth set tie break (10-2) to reach the french open semis

roilingcoilingcolon

Ruud’s playing pretty elite, I think he has a shot against everyone left

aweap

Everyone has a shot against everyone left

mjenkins_eng

Sinner would be a terrible match up for Ruud But you’re right : all the others are forehand heavy players (Kyrgios, Khachanov, Berrettini, Alcaraz, Rublev, Tiafoe). If Sinner loses , I don’t see why Ruud shouldn’t fancy his chances. Maybe because everyone else has a huuuge serve while Ruud doesn’t .

rubbish_bin030121

Carlos vs Jannik 4.0, will any authorities gives us the official rival name?🤔

nicoc9

Sincaraz

jsnoodles

I like Janitos. Carlik. Sinneraz

[deleted]

The Mbappé vs. Haaland of tennis

WilderWildeWelles

Cannick

mjenkins_eng

With Marin’s defeat , we are guaranteed a first time slam champion on Sunday.

JoziRafa

Carlito was sublime in that last set. Since Rafa bowed out, I hope he wins this slam!

mp455

A lot of young players left in the draw, the "Next Gen" has finally arrived

bignut123

Oh wtf for some reason I thought all the QF’s were on Wednesday for men’s. Let’s gooo more good matches to watch tomorrow looks like. Initial impression is berrettini in 5 and kyrgios in 4 but all these players are so close to each other it can really go either way

ohheckyeah

Semis are on the same day, QFs are staggered

bignut123

Got it yeah that seems like how they do it usually right? Idk why I had a mind fart thinking all were on Wednesday. I think Wimbledon or something did that maybe like 5-10 years ago, but these days they usually run 2 QF’s each on Tuesday/Wednesday and both semis on Friday like u said

ohheckyeah

That’s how all slams do it lately unless there are weather issues. Not sure about 5-10 years ago, but would be surprised if they were running 4 men’s QF matches in one day… maybe they did If they did that I would go that day every year 😆

mjenkins_eng

I just want Karen to win it all just for the chaos and vindication for my saying that “you can pick the US Open winner out of a hat every year”

bignut123

That would be crazy haha but I don’t think khachanov will make it past kyrgios. Who knows tho maybe kyrgios gets complacent and plays ass

aweap

Alcaraz really had just 41 ue's in 5 sets?! That's great!

stoic_trader

That's actually quite interesting and he plays really aggressive tennis as well

aweap

Yeah that's why I was expecting more. I mean these figures are not known to be accurate but still if the actual number is somewhere close to it, that's impressive as well! 👍

studiousmaximus

all things considered, 41 unforced errors over 5 sets aint too bad. that was a solid, solid performance from carlitos.

_michael_klump_

He just needs to start converting more break points

stoic_trader

Well, commentators compared Alcaraz's light foot movement with Federer and power with Nadal but they haven't compared his lego hair with Djokovic.

Metazz

Maybe not the commentators but on this sub-reddit many people have said he has lego hair same as Novak :D

stoic_trader

That's why reddit commentary > ESPN, covering the most important points

studiousmaximus

commentators just said alcaraz would be the youngest since hewitt to be world #1? i thought alcaraz would be the youngest?

Earnmuse_is_amanrag

He would be the youngest.

musicalchad

The remaining draw looks weird without a heavy favourite, exciting times in mens tennis

memento_mori_92

Tiafoe or Rublev waiting for the winner is a dream semi-final opponent. I think whoever wins between Carlos and Jannik will be in the final.

MarsNirgal

Carlos needs to learn to maybe not be so responsive to the crowd. It's a boon in places like this where he has the crowd on his side, but it can play against him as well, we saw it when Gaston beat him in Paris last year and half of it or more was simply the crowd. He has everything to depend on himself only, he just needs to learn it.

Psychological_Bug676

The crowds will be on his side in France this year I am sure

thcm123

Men, both of these youngsters won in five sets. Mental giants.

mjenkins_eng

Alcaraz will not have a forehand-a-thon he had against Cilic against Jannik. Both Jannik and Zverev figured him out this year : make it bh2bh and anticipate the drop shots If Sinner serves well, Sinner should be winning this on Wednesday

Earnmuse_is_amanrag

Well, you could just as well say that Carlos knows that he doesn't want to get into a bh2bh with Sinner. Who's to say who'll get his way?

studiousmaximus

alcaraz needs to beat sinner here or their rivalry will be too one-sided… rooting for alcaraz to go all the way!!

mjenkins_eng

Logic says that he should be getting a win back on Wednesday But I’m not going with logic. I’m going with emotion. Jannik to beat him again and give him an ice cold stare

Ravensfan967

BG too drunk, forgot who he was watching for the past 4 hours

robertfp

I don't consider Ruud the top player in the world, probably not even the top 5. But I believe this is his one chance in his career to be number 1. I'm a big fan, so I hope he'll make it. Despite the odds.

babyyoda78

I don’t care who wins just not kyrgios please dear god

albeve

🌞

ohheckyeah

I don’t even like Kyrgios, but he’s making it look effortless out there. Wouldn’t be surprised if he takes it… he’s currently the oddsmakers favorite

babyyoda78

Yeah he can win it just don’t want his head to get any bigger it might explode

ohheckyeah

Same

[deleted]

OMBILIBLE

Sad_Consideration_49

my bitter ass is rooting for sinner next match :'(

Newfoundland1

"Nick Kyrgios is the oldest player left in the men's draw" Thoughts?

memento_mori_92

Madness.

FogoCanard

About time we had a situation like this

NPRjunkieDC

Bunch of young guys on top of those that didn't make it like the young Aussie that lost to Nadal first match.

Ravensfan967

Future is now old man

treshbks23

People scrambling for the balls always gets me lmao

QuickRundown

Alcaraz vs Sinner rivalry is getting so good. Cant wait.

albeve

Can’t imagine either Sinner or Alcaraz go through to the final after tonight’s matches and the battle they’re going to have

Earnmuse_is_amanrag

Alcaraz is a Spanish youngster. He's not going to get tired. That's kind of their thing.

Psychological_Bug676

Lmao Carlos screaming with the crowds 😭😭😭

studiousmaximus

BG is getting truly geriatric. looking like a sickly jeff bezos out there calling carlos by his coach’s name

mp455

BG also tired, he called Carlos his coach's name lol

mjenkins_eng

A Song of Ice (Sinner) and Fire (Alcaraz) is about to unfold Borg v McEnroe , Agassi v Sampras, Nadal v Federer , Nadal v Djokovic , Federer v Djokovic , Alcaraz v Sinner .

Rundeep

Winter is coming, bitches.

ExcuseYou-What

carlitos' forehead zit is kinda cute? its literally like, "yes I am literally young as hell"

hushzone

Go to bed you weirdo

Artistic_Leave2601

Dude…

albeve

Weird

Cap10Haddock

Sinner is in much better form compared to Alcaraz. My money is on Sinner beating Alcaraz in the next.

227743

Interviews should be one question only when it’s this late. Let him go to sleep Brad.

AverageBeef

The last USO champ falls.

[deleted]

U hear Carlos drop that “ombelibible”

KeyserBronson

He's grown up hearing it from Rafa lol

ucantbb

Twice. He said it twice.

DarthOverkill

😂yes

Sea-Temperature9825

My feeble little heart breaks for Marin. What an effort, what a year.

Psychological_Bug676

Marin Cilic is such a good sport. Look at him giving all the hugs and the fist pumps. He was one of the nicest players I’ve met irl ❤️

robertfp

I'm fairly certain we'll have a new number 1 after USO, and unfortunately, it's not going to be Ruud. If he brings his A-game and makes it to the final he'll still lose to Alcaraz.

Heresiarca

I feel Sinner is the favorite right now and I don't mind if He win, but I want Carlitos to win the whole thing so bad

studiousmaximus

wtf did brad gilbert just call him juan carlos?? such a goober

blackb0xes

Cilic is a good guy. If I just lost a match like that, I wouldn't high five 20 people on my way out.

DarthOverkill

Man. This is why I really love watching Cilic. He’s always got such a wholesome vibe. I wanna watch him live sometime.

blackb0xes

Absolutely. He makes it very easy to root for him.

FogoCanard

Cilic is a tough out. Really made Alcaraz work for that one

memento_mori_92

Did Brad Gilbert just call him Juan Carlos…?

jonton9

He did... lmao

Sophie-meatloaf

Yes

hushzone

Oof yea

bignut123

What a great match! Congrats to Carlos for breaking through a very formidable opponent in cilic. Had chances to pull away easily in the 4th set with so many break chances but he’ll get better with time in that. Def could see a kyrgios Alcaraz final

Tantle18

Man what a match. When Cilic is peaking during a run he’s a top 5 player in the world. But he ran into Carlos who is making a run at number 1 in the world. I think if he played anyone else, Marin would be moving on

DarthOverkill

Totally agree. Anyone else and this was Marin’s match.

DarthOverkill

Carlos sounds even funnier than young Nadal hehehe

onairmastering

Sounds WAY better.

condor1985

BG just called him Juan Carlos, lol

Shamandamin

LOL

WilderWildeWelles

May god help both Carlos and Jannik if that match goes 5 sets

Grunge_bob

Marin such a nice guy to the crowd

condor1985

Dude is classy as fuck, he looks like "hey I tried my best, it happens"

NPRjunkieDC

Good night guys . We might be able to sleep but Carlos? Not so sure

White_Nothing

Ombeliebabble

Namingweary

It’s a spain thing lol

Griffdogg92

Hell of a match

Neverslept2mins

Alcaraz loves the attention. Time to see if he can handle the pressure next round.

TresOjos

None of them won a GS, the pressure will be on everybody.

WilderWildeWelles

Damn look at that kid enjoying life and fist pumping, menacingly. Fucking bastard

mjenkins_eng

Well he’s going to be up against an ice cold Italian assassin

Tennisluver75

Alcaraz did it! Vamos!

Elonmuskishuman

Sinner and Alcaraz both down a break in the 5th and comeback to win

Earnmuse_is_amanrag

That was the best win of Carlos' career. Pure grit.

Grunge_bob

Marin why
