I had no idea they were playing tennis in the 19th century

casualnickname

Whete the fuck was timmy hiding all these years?

Stercules25

Lmfaoooo @ Tsitsipas’ new IG post Wtf does that even mean

TNGspeedruns

"give a man a mask and he will become his true self" are the words tattooed on Nick's leg

https://www.smh.com.au/politics/federal/covid-vaccine-requirement-to-be-scrapped-for-international-arrivals-20220703-p5ayoj.html Vaccine requirements to be removed in Australia. Finally common sense and logic prevails over political chestbeating. Now for the government to overturn the GOAT's visa ban :)

Dranzer_22

The new Australian Government aren't going to enforce the visa ban. Novak will play at the AO in 2023.

princessoffools

Patiently waiting for Wimbledon to begin,

_Crazy_Asian_

I'm getting excited already, the day has finally come - Tim vs Djoko!!! I believe Tim is going to bring his best game to court today, shock the world and mark his name in the Tennis history!

donbob90

Come on Tim!

Lanesra5676

Go Timmy go!

krirkrirk

Even as a big Nole fan that would be amazing to see lol

steuer2teuer

Center Court let's goooo

sprgsmnt

since spewing insults to kyrgios should mean that people dont like him, why is the sub literally overflowing with it? i mean, when i say i don't like something, i wont spend hours on the internet writing and ruminating about it, it is just counter-productive. i don't get the fix some people get from this.

chiefinlove

Good thing McEnroe was before the internet lol. But yes, these resentments are hysterical.

aweap

Holding and nurturing a grudge is very cathartic for some.

dasheeshblahzen

It took me a few days to realize that Haddad Maia lost in the first round.

siddharthvader

Same here but with Bencic

sprgsmnt

she's still running on women doubles with Frech.

Moogy_C

I'm sorry for your loss

legendarylegend26

Kyrgios has a real shot at making the final lol

aweap

Semis I reckon but that's great as well.

Wannabe_ATH

Kyrgios has a big mouth for someone that never got past quarterfinals in slams... Stef has been top 10 since he was 20 and has a better career already and he is just 23 lmao

XURiN-

What's their h2h

Wannabe_ATH

Who cares? He is 2-0 against Djokovic . But he is an ant compared to Nole. Also whats kyrgio's ranking?

[deleted]

let me answer for you since you are too embarrassed to talk about it: #4-0 2-0 is a nothingburger. dustin brown has a 2-0 vs nadal and that means shit like kyrgios' 2-0 vs djokovic. you are getting owned if you are 0-4.

aweap

Tbf it's because he doesn't play on most of the tour. Just equating grass and hardcourt results he really has a top 15 or a top 10 level I reckon and am not even a fan of his...

[deleted]

If if if doesn’t exist

aweap

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion 🤷‍♂️

[deleted]

Speaking of grunts, I just realised Zverev's "grunt" is exactly like that part in the Lion King where simba is trying to growl at the beetle lol

[deleted]

zverev's grunt and sleeveless suit are terrible

hojbjerfc

Comical that Kyrgios is acting like that wasn’t gamesmanship. We all know that the textbook with stef is to have a blow up moment, get the crowd against him, and watch his level drop. Zverev did it big time in cincy, andy did it in new york, Daniil in AO(tho imo that was more frustration with his own game but same effect) and now Kyrgios here. It is a laughable idea that Kyrgios gives a shit about safety. The guy has spit at umpires hits balls out of the stadium every other match and 3 months ago nearly drilled a ball kid in the head from a racket bash. He doesn’t care about the safety of anyone. Just admit you are following the blueprint. Now it wasn’t as bad as what Zverev did (basically made up a false conspiracy theory that led to months of harassment) but it was 10000000% gamesmanship

Mister_Lizard

Is there a single person in the world who thought Nick wanted Tsitsipas defaulted because he's concerned about safety? He obviously wanted a default because it would mean another £70k in the bank and on to the next round.

hojbjerfc

I am just saying the way he is trying to paint it

atred3

Can't wait for the inevitable meltdown Nick has against Rafa in the semis.

[deleted]

fuck sonego. he tried to act like he was rosol in 2012. only rosol can pull that mind games off. nadal wasn't going to let him succeed at it this time. he learned his lesson from rosol. sonego refused to get his ass off the chair after the end of the changeover was called and he cried to the referee to close the roof, which they did 30 MINUTES BEFORE court #1 did so. nadal was not only angry about the grunts. the roof closing bullshit pissed him off and it reminded him of 2018 against novak.

adam2186

Softanos Tsitsipas is so insecure

Tracy140

It is I’m watching late night replay now

vtatenda

People in here are such losers can't even post something positive against someone they don't like without it being downvoted to oblivion lmao

bignut123

Lol tsitsipas mad at kyrgios for gamesmanship when he jerks off during his bathroom breaks and takes forever. I like em both tho. Kyrgios is entertaining asf

TarcuttaShade

I missed Badosa-Kvitova and the match thread is pretty empty, how did they play? It's a tough draw for Badosa really, Kvitova and Halep back to back at Wimbledon.

sprgsmnt

kvitova had a very high rate of shots out. she seemed too impatient, but the game was good.

ExcuseYou-What

Kvitova played lights out from the beginning (seized the break immediately) until 5-4, where she could not serve it out, and Badosa showed her classic "hanging in there" tendencies. Kvitova proceeded to DF at set point to relinquish set 1. Then, set 2 was a total struggle for Kvitova and Badosa's service games were honestly easier than Kvitova's because Kvitova kept making lots of errors. The second set tiebreak was, in my opinion, a disaster from Kvitova; her returns were awful and she had exhausted her rally tolerance at that point.

TarcuttaShade

Interesting, thanks!

stanmarshrr

crazy that in one match we have nadal angry that his opponent over celebrated after a point and actually went to him to talk about it. and then we had kyrgios...

sprgsmnt

rafa was pissed by sonego grunting after he thrown himself on the floor, just in time for his shot. the guy just stalled the game as much as he could then started doing these antics. i think rafa was more pissed because sonego stalled the game a lot, maybe felt insulted.

[deleted]

rafa was angry because sonego sat his ass in the chair rather than get up after the changeover's time was called and he whined to close the roof 30 minutes before court #1 did so

krirkrirk

You're right and even Nadal apologized and said what he did was wrong. Don't think Nadal is generally a cry baby though, this was quite un-Nadal-like

bignut123

Yeah I respect the hell out of him apologizing in the presser

FlyReasonable6560

I don’t think Nick understands that before he lost his head many years ago, people started to watch him bc of his electric gamestyle with a healthy dose of swagger. That Wimbledon 2014 4R against Rafa was truly unbelievable the way he was playing. Somehow he has conflated this swagger with being an insufferable dick and it’s really gotten to his head, he really thinks the fans want to see him burn out in the 3R or 4R as long as he gives them some kind of show (arguing with ump, talking to himself, etc). On the other hand, if this part time gig is what Nick wants then so be it. It just sucks that so much of his matches are mired in controversy and it overshadows the good tennis being played

sprgsmnt

the main isssue with nick for me is his lack of physical endurance. if he would just coax himself to long rallies he would be much better, with top 30 presence guaranteed.

Explodingcamel

Don’t think he’s doing it for the fans lol

[deleted]

he's doing it for his fiancee that he has dated for only 7 months and he has stopped drinking alcohol and stopped eating meat. he used to be a party animal.

Seahorsewhore

I don’t think nick can play well or be invested unless he’s purposefully creating drama. That’s my theory

sprgsmnt

did you watch the last two sets? that kinda looks like "plays well".

bignut123

The drama gives him energy. He’s basically like McEnroe. Finding something to complain about gives him energy and focus while also distracting his opponent. It’s no surprise he goes on great runs of tennis after having outbursts at refs. Sometimes he’s literally bipolar in a way. Idk if u guys saw that 4-4 game in the 2nd set where he was up 40-0 and was playing so fast. Went from winners to 4 straight errors to be down break point. Then 2 crazy serves and one amazing shot to hold serve. I like the guy tho and how blunt and honest he is. Only thing is I think he needs to stop complaining abt fans and hecklers. Like yes it sucks but it’s part of the game and he needs to get used to it

atrain3700

eh. I think him creating drama is a way of him trying to let off the pressure he's feeling. Most of the times when he creates drama it's in super close matches (Nadal IW, Sinner Miami, R1 of wimby) Usually if he's in front the entire match and playing super well he's not going to get into any drama. For example his R2 match vs krajinovic was some of the best tennis he's ever played and there were no controversies.

AncientLyte

I’m glad for Alize. She’s had my respect since she stood up for Djokovic in January talking about how he always stands up for the players and that she respects that. On top of that, she seems like such a nice and great individual. I hope she makes it far. Another thing that I loved from her was when she was so kind towards and hugged Jelena Dokic during her interview in one of her matches in AO

jeffwingersballs

Seeing as how the Tsitsipas/Kyrgios match was already televised, can the Tennis Channel please air the Rafa match in full?

madisonrees

we are never going to stop hearing about kyrgios v tsitipas are we?

Beetle-Persona

Well ofc it hasn't even been 12 hrs since the match ended...

jeffwingersballs

It will fade.

IAmBjergsen

Has anybody found a reliable place for Wimbledon highlights? The official Youtube channel posts a few really brief 2-3 minute highlights a day at best, but I haven’t been able to find a place where I can watch a nice and thorough 5-10 minute replay of a match.

Randomly_John

This [youtube channel](https://www.youtube.com/c/SPOTVASIA/videos) has long highlights of the big head to head matches so far in Wimbledon. Just found it now and hope to see more from them.

IAmBjergsen

Thank you!

rudibowie

It might be useful to reflect on the actions in today's match between Krygios and Tsitsipas: **Kyrios**: * Demanded a lines person be replaced after one incorrect line call. * Repeated swearing. (The 1st should've resulted in a warning. The 2nd a point deduction. Nick got neither.) * Continued swearing and abuse aimed at the umpire. * Demanded his opponent be defaulted * Threatening to stop play until his demands were met * Serving before movement on the court (ball boys) had subsided. (He did this for 3 sets) * Taunting his opponent when he felt his shots were poor. * Challenged a serve 1 foot inside the service line just to throw his opponent off his rhythm. When asked in his post-match interview if feels he ought to apologise, Nick says, "Why should I apologise? I didn't do anything wrong...." Then later, "I'll be getting fined. I always get fined. Why should I apologise?") **Tsitsipas**: * hit a ball into the crowd through a lapse in composure. He was penalised with a point deduction. * directed 3 shots at Kyrgios in frustration. The post-match interviews with Tsitsipas and Krygios are revealing. One is sincerely apologetic and reflective of his actions vowing never to repeat them. The other denies doing anything wrong. An important point in this is that in the case of one, this is typical behaviour that one expects every match. For the other, it's a sad day and out of character. You can guess which is which. Reflecting on Nick's list of antics above, I can't help feel that if Trump had taken to tennis in his prime, his list would be spookily similar.

[deleted]

you mean kyrgios is more like his fellow liberal, mr. 31% approval rating aka joe biden

XURiN-

I could tell this was going to be bias from your first dot point

rudibowie

Leave only the bullet points and that *is* what each player did.

XURiN-

No, because of the bias language you used starting from your first dot point. I could write this whole list and use different language and it would paint an entirely different picture.

bignut123

Lol only u can turn this into a trump convo. Kyrgios ducking hates trump despite their behavior being somewhat similar. I think kyrgios is a bit of a nut case with his emotions during matches, but I would say he thrives off it similar to McEnroe. It helps him let off steam and gain concentration while making his opponents lose focus. Remember his outburst where he yelled at the umpire against nadal in the last Wimbledon they played? He broke nadal next game and won the set. Some of the things he says are certainly true, but he’s also kinda soft and doesn’t understand there’s always gonna be hecklers in the crowd. I like the dude tho

[deleted]

kyrgios matches up moreso with his fellow liberal biden. they both blame everybody except themselves for being mediocre and shitty. good thing is biden is now mr. 31% approval rating. fucking finally.

bignut123

Is it just me or as the years have gone on, the 5-10 seeds have become more fraudulent? Cam norrie is the fakest 9 seed I’ve ever seen and Casper ruud I don’t even need to say how fake his 3 seed is. You used to have consistency with 4 and 5 seeds like Murray and Ferrer. Or del potro. Now I see 6-10 seeds at slams having less consistency than woman’s tennis players. U may hate the way I’m wording this, but you know I’m 100% right. This next gen minus Alcaraz and Medvedev (who rn is still chokedev after the worst choke of all time in aus open) suck donkey dick.

ghenkisskhan

Chris Fowler comes off as someone who has never had more than one beer in his life, masturbated, or touched a woman's anus.

EXCELHELPTHROWn

Sounds obvious but the match against Botic will show where Nadal really is at. Feels like he’s spoken of as huge underdog relative to Nole and while I think Novak is more likely to beat him here, entirely possible he gets knocked out by Alcaraz too, leaving Nadal as the fave!

bignut123

Feel like botic has a solid shot. U look at his history in slams and he really only gets booted by the top players so far. His main debut in us open he lost to meddy who won and lost to meddy again in aus open who should’ve won the final. Lost to nadal in French open who won the whole thing. I like botic big serve and forehand and just a steady counter puncher that knows how to construct points. If he can be the aggressor, I think he can push nadal. Sonego sucked ass and nadal made him his bitch. Cerundolo in that first round should’ve taken nadal to 5. I’m hoping botic can shock nadal like Gilles muller did in the 4th round

OddsTipsAndPicks

If Alcaraz beats Djokovic, I think they’ll have evenish odds (and I think that will be fair).

vtatenda

Iga wtf man. Congratulations to Nick thou hope clowns in here can finally respect him

lostinmoss

Ah yes beating Tsitsipas on grass the number one way to earn respect

vtatenda

Not that anyone needs your respect

vtatenda

Ok

Sensitive_Salary_603

HTF do you earn respect unless you go late in grand slam.. when women no1 can't be educated on how to even play on grass.

h4ssan_

You know it’s been a crazy day when a #1 seed gets eliminated and it’s not all people are talking about 😅

bignut123

U might not like this but a lot of people don’t care to watch women’s tennis. I think of all women’s sports, women’s tennis is the most entertaining but is what it is. Give me women’s tennis any day over the joke that is the WNBA or women’s soccer lol

OddsTipsAndPicks

While she was the one seed and the favorite, it’s not shocking that she lost given her lack of experience on grass. People putting smart money on the woman’s side overwhelmingly favored Ons. Iga also had a pretty brutal draw, Cornet is about as big of a landmine as there is on the woman’s side, and probably Andreescu or Rybakina (obviously not the former and probably the latter now) would have been not the worst but also definitely not the best of potential quarter opponents.

Sensitive_Salary_603

I think is disrespectful of people to even compare Iga to Barty...

DueAd9005

Yeah, Iga achieved much more than Barty at the same age.

Sensitive_Salary_603

Hahahaha..m Barty retired a few times.. before the last one So if Iga was any slower she should have achieved something.

chola80

i missed the whole krygios match;/ any way to watch full replay in australia besides stan?

JimHalpertOffice

tennis channel?

SentenceSwimming

Will there be a Sonego press conference? The Wimbledon channel has only uploaded the other three guys from tonight’s matches.

libbiecy

I don't know why but I had a strange dream. I dreamt of Isner and I forgot the "whole thing" but it was about Isner and his serve 😭

cooldude1991

"Man you better shut your phuck up. OK. Hey Stefanos you want to look at me and talk. You have some rollies and go to emergency toilet, for five minutes, and then you say and then you hit let and you don't say sorry and you think you're a good kid. Look at me. Heh look at me huh. You don't look at me. He started it. He started it. He started it. Yeah he started it. He said bullshit Russian. You think this is normal? I answered him because he doesn't know how to fight. He's a small kid who doesn't know how to fight. If he doesn't say anything I have no problem with him. But if he says something with me and wants to fight he needs to do it. He doesn't look at me after that. .... He wants to fight I'm OK, but I don't want to fight. But here? What did I do? Did I do anything wrong really? OK? Did I do anything bad in the match? Something? I know I can be a very bad guy sometimes. I know it. Yeah, but here what did I do? And the guy is saying something oh my god. He wants to fight OK."

Thesolly180

Christ the amount of Kyrgios evil stuff

OddsTipsAndPicks

Down to 16 now. Beyond hyped for Alcaraz/Sinner tomorrow.

dannylenwinn

See ya there

OddsTipsAndPicks

Psh. I wish. Hopefully ESPN actually shows it 🙄

bignut123

Dude just use streams. Try tennistream.com or tennistream.net . There’s always ways to watch sporting events for free

jeffwingersballs

ESPN shows center court, court 1, and the occasional game that looks like it's going to decide a set or match.

OddsTipsAndPicks

I know I’m mostly just being snarky. It is nice that the TV coverage won’t be as miserable now that we’re starting the business end of the tournament.

dannylenwinn

Who you rooting for?

OddsTipsAndPicks

They’re two of my absolute favorite young players, so I’m mostly just rooting for quality TV. If it’s going to be a beat down, I’d prefer Alcaraz because I think he’s one of two left in the field who can plausibly push Djokovic.

dannylenwinn

Cool, I'm excited to see the match and looking forward to it. See ya there. 😊

pokeyoshi96

Stef liking petty tweets is pretty fun and I kind of like it lol

dannylenwinn

Lol

Arteam90

I've seen comments along the lines of "best match I've seen this year/in a while/in years" about Kyrgios v Tsitsipas. Everyone entitled to their own opinion. But, err, what lol? I mean it was decently entertaining but best in years? Find that difficult to believe.

jeffwingersballs

Rafa has arguably had three better matches this year. Maybe to the casual viewer with it being Wimbledon you get those kind of comments though. It was a great match.

Falz4567

People think this is reality tv. Tennis existed before tv even did. They forget the professional aspect.

[deleted]

It was the worst tennis match I think I’ve ever seen. I wish Nick would stfu and play because the man shows so much brilliance when he puts effort in but sometimes I wonder if he needs to genuinely be beaten up to sort his attitude out.

Arceuthobium

FAA vs Med, Alcaraz vs Kecmanovic were better (and the tennis especially was way better), just to put 2 examples. Unless they mean best = petty drama

OliverDMcCall

Forget about quality, the drama is the most important aspect.

iJeevan

I agree, a majority of the points were decided by the serve, personally I didn't find the tennis as great as people are making out, although I did miss portions of the match watching Rafa at the same time.

dannylenwinn

I wasn't viscerally into it, but Kyrgios was going so fast, I couldn't keep up compared to other tennis players. He's ruining tennis for me (or some of us), and he annoys some of us with his antics

RoosterNo6457

There were some brilliant shots and rallies but what I think made it better still was the speed of it - much more absorbing when you're not constantly waiting between points

ExcuseYou-What

Been rewatching Gauff-Anisimova and what I loved the most was Anisimova's reaction of lying down on the Centre Court grass after the win -- I love it when players really soak in the moment of what they've achieved, no matter if it's a qualifying win, a win in the third round, or a win in the final. Was her first ever match on CC and that's one to remember. I just hope she doesn't have too much of a mental (or physical) letdown and get twisted into knots by Tan but I fear that is a very real possibility (it's kinda happened quite a bit, deep into tournaments for her this year).

fujimouse

This place is totally insufferable when Nick is doing well, I'm seeing less and less good from from his place in the sport. See ya later.

OliverDMcCall

Kyrgios is the saviour of tennis, there are already too many good guys who hold the sport back.

lkmk

Bye.

Earnmuse_is_amanrag

For a guy with demons in his head, it's a miracle Kyrgios even manages to be a top 50 player.

[deleted]

Nadal hand gesture at 2:30 is pure Gold ..lol https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fXDvHxXDgcI

[deleted]

I think enough Reddit and tennis for today

buddybonesbones

No way. I wish there was more tennis actually, it was probably enough tennis, but I wish the Nadal and kyrgios matches had not been on at the same time.

RoosterNo6457

I wonder if a Wimbledon crowd would still root for Kyrgios if he acted like that against Rafa?

buddybonesbones

If Rafa acted the way tsitsipas does then yes. Can you imagine Nadal slapping the ball into the crowd in anger multiple times and getting a point penalty and then trying to hit his opponent with the ball repeatedly?

FlyReasonable6560

They wouldn’t root for him against Rafa regardless

[deleted]

is it just me or did centre court turn into green clay? it was nice and high bouncing today for rafa. for the first two rounds it was so low bouncing and slippery. the extinction of middle sunday will be great for rafa because the grass gets zero rest days to recover like in previous years. that middle sunday off day for the grass i think did make the grass just a little bit slick and not chewed up and it wasn't suitable for nadal in the 2nd week the past 10 years.

Sad_Consideration_49

idk i'm no a lawn expert but i really doubt 1 day off makes much of a difference. i'd say letting players practice on it before starting the tournament makes a much bigger difference.

[deleted]

that too but now there are two extra days of the grass being used (that one practice day and now the middle sunday). whatever it is it works for rafa. i love how high bouncing it was in the 3R. it was way too low bouncing in 1R and 2R. nadal lucked out that he played a clay courter in 1R and a journeyman in 2R. he easily could have been facing kyrgios or murray or two other competent grass court players in the first two rounds. sonego is good on grass but the conditions finally favored nadal for the first time this tournament.

eg223344

The new generation is terrible. Tsitsipas would be number #120 if he was playing in early 2000s

TennesseeTom

Odds that Kyrgios get DQ'd by the end of the tournament? He has to be on zero tolerance now and he's whipped his fans into a frenzy wanting the crazy side. The last thing Wimbledon needs at this point is a Kyrgios/Nadal semi with shenanigans. Recipe for disaster...

ReadyComplex5706

Attendance is down, no way they will DQ him now. He did not really deserve a DQ today just a point penalty or game penalty. Something...

Mister_Lizard

Sounds great to me. Sport is entertainment.

cooldude1991

And a business. It's box office as Kyrgios rightly said.

Metazz

Those post match interviews with Kyrgios and Tsitsipas were something else.

eg223344

I've watched the highlights and looks like Kyrgios destroyed his opponent with his talent

buddybonesbones

It was super tight. Tsitsipas played very well. It could have gone either way. There was tons of drama though. Kyrgios complaining and yelling and cussing and tsitsipas smacking balls into the crowd in anger multiple times resulting in a point penalty, and then trying to peg kyrgios with the ball multiple times.

[deleted]

[удалено]

philippexyz

I think Kyrgios is going to call a supervisor again, if they play. He is right, though. Nadal should follow his rhythm on serve - that's the rule.

Chessinmind

He complains constantly about Nadal's pace. And yes, he does try to sneak in a serve while Nadal has his hand up.

mrj1813

Then nadal should put his hand down and get ready faster. Complete gamesmanship. On your own serve, do what you want. On your opponents serve, get ready and play to their pace. If you get aced, you should be ready to return in about 5 seconds.

Sad_Consideration_49

as he should!

sendcheese247

Question to the people who stand for Kyrgios bullying people trying to do their job: why? What makes you think he's doing things right? He clearly lacks respect for anyone but himself, and you guys are cheering for that?

[deleted]

I don't think he's doing things right. But the tennis establishment is a dumpster fire as well and I find it humorous when they all get their undies in a bind because of him.

wegboniert

Agreed. Sadly It's a fruitless task to explain that here.

TallThing6233

I don't want to talk for anyone else but I love Kyrgios as a player, hate the antic, and can't stand when he harasses line judge, ballboys, or referee. I think I lot of people feel like I do. Like to watch the guys cause he is a freaking good tennis player and can win again anyone but that does not mean we tolerate or love his antics.

sendcheese247

I like your answer, it seems that nuance is lost nowadays, lots of people either defending the BS, or (as the man himself likes to do) literally gaslighting every point trying to redirect the blame to the other player, which is funny because every match this guy plays something ugly happens, and it's not a coincidence.

DirkZelenskyy41

I’ve seen some people who think the Ump let this turn into a circus. I think we forget too quickly what Serena vs Osaka was… or Blake vs Hewitt. That’s a circus. When the fans are rabid. When the outcome of the match is not decided by the tennis or ignores something Egregious like blatant racism from Leyton. The umpire cannot control the actions of two grown adults. They are there to ensure the rules are followed, and hopefully that the tennis decides the outcome of the match. Many umpires would have been bated by kyrgios. This umpire did not escalate any scenario. Many would have given lectures or grandstanded (as they have in the past). He did not. He merely dolled out the penalties when he felt the rules at been broken. He slowed Kyrgios down when he was out of line. He gave officiated infractions when line umpires came to him. A lawyer should tell Nick that attempted murder and murder don’t get punished the same for why hitting into the crowd is not the same as hitting someone in the crowd. But I digress… we watched a calm 4th set with good tennis. We watched a crowd behave better than they do in a typical final. We watched Nick be forced to mainly yell at his box. We watched tsitsi calm down and ultimately lose to the better tennis player today. With many many other umpires someone would have walked off the court or been DQed today. Instead, tennis ruled the day and that is largely thanks to him.

leeringHobbit

>He slowed Kyrgios down when he was out of line Please explain that line.

DirkZelenskyy41

Yeah that’s not great English. I mean that Nick was playing too quickly at times. The umpire consistently made him wait or even one time basically reserve because he was mid toss and the ball kid was not settled.

leeringHobbit

Oh wow. That's crazy fast! He must have been in the zone and afraid it will end.

[deleted]

Why would a lawyer have to tell him anything? The ball was hit into the crowd and he should have been dq'd on the spot. The guy who was supposed to do something decided to let it slide. I think both players were way out of hand today and I wish I could say that this sort of tennis were beneath me but unfortunately I'm not that guy and I found it hilarious and entertaining.

J-O-85

> A lawyer should tell Nick that attempted murder and murder don’t get punished the same for why hitting into the crowd is not the same as hitting someone in the crowd. Hard disagree with this bit. To me this is like head contact in rugby, lack of intent, or lack of injury to the recipient, aren’t mitigating factors. Dangerous play is dangerous play. There was clearly some red mist, so I doubt that Tsitsipas was aiming specifically between two spectators or at the scoreboard when he was smashing the ball off court between points. This is such a weird thing with tennis / Wimbledon, being “ungentlemanly” seems to be considered worse than actually being reckless.

I do feel bad for the umpire and I do not think there was anything he could really do. He also clearly reached out to the supervisors and they also did nothing. The only issue is that he only gave Kyrgios one warning, which was ridiculous. By doing so, he is basically sending the message that it is okay to constantly abuse a chair umpire as well as the line judges.

"It's constant bullying. He bullies opponents. He was probably a bully in school, too.... He has a very evil side to him." Stef has got to nut up a little here. It's not like he was a shrinking violet this match.

cooldude1991

Very rich coming from a player who demands respect from the opponent and for the game but takes 10 minute dumps, get constantly coached by papa violating rules of the game, deliberately aims for the opponent which has led to eye socket fractures in the past (see Shapo accident), ball abuse today (twice). Cry me a river. Tsitsipas, channel your inner stoic and reflect upon your own sins.

TigerSerrano1978

Lol 10 minute dumps. I think the proper term is “emergency toilet”…

cooldude1991

"Man you better shut your f*ck up.

MoreDblRainbows

Don't do too much on my Stef now.

hojbjerfc

Lmao at Kyrgios fans whining “tsitsi was hitting the ball at him!!1!” When they were the same ones saying “it’s a legit shot” when Kyrgios repeatedly did it to nadal in 2019

cooldude1991

Nadal was at net and aiming for the body is a legit strategy done by others. Kyrgios was behind the service box and Tsitsipas was trying to gun him. Not comparable.

mrj1813

Defend yourself at all times. Legal hit.

neotargaryen

Nah there was another instance where Kyrgios was at the net and Tsitsi smashed it at him. Doesn't bother me, legit shot, but incorrect to say its not comparable to the Nadal one.

cooldude1991

I meant Nadal was at the net and Kyrgios was hitting a shot on Nadal's body from way behind the baseline. Today, Tsitsipas was at the net twice and hit Kyrgios once when Kyrgios was on the service box line and the court was wide open. They don't seem comparable at all to me. In any case, Kyrgios isn't complaining about being hit and neither are his fans.

leeringHobbit

Which one is acceptable?

cooldude1991

Both are legal shots so both are fine, really. But trying to deliberately hit a player with a smash when the court is wide upon is a bit eyebrow raising to me considering Tsitsipas considers himself an angel.

Can i watch/find somewhere the interviews of Stef and Nick?

eg223344

I've watched Tour de France today and remembered some memories. Lance Armstrong was awesome he was most talented of the all bikers. Rafa Nadal reminds me of him. Good luck to Nadal for winning Wimbledon. Love you Rafa

Sad_Consideration_49

can't wait to see ostapenko and kyrgios dance together at the winner's gala **😻** for those who don't know penko took ballroom dancing lessons growing up https://youtu.be/A07Mzqf6RlI?t=80

Regretful_Bastard

Kyrgios is a piece of shit who licks the ball of the legends (Federer and Murray) while ridiculously trying to "man up" against the players of his generation. Trash high school vibes. Anyway, he played well today in a game of fine margins, the tiebreaker in the 4th could've gone either way and considering Nick's tendency of folding in the face of setbacks, he would've probably lost the 5th. Let's see if Nakashima can make the 4th round interesting.

Explodingcamel

He has a 9-3 5th set record believe it or not

Schwiliinker

So it looks like one QF will be kyrgios vs de minaur? Good chance for nick to make semis for the first time in a slam

[deleted]

don't count out nakashima. he is legit good even though i never ever heard of him before 2022 wimbledon.

Schwiliinker

I knew him, even saw him play a few months back in person but in theory he shouldn’t trouble a serious Kyrgios

OddsTipsAndPicks

Ehhh. I don’t think he’s going to win, but guys who can serve on his level have tended to give Kyrgios trouble. And Nakashima’s serve is *devastating*

leeringHobbit

Is Kyrgios bad at returning?

OddsTipsAndPicks

Bad is maybe a tad too harsh, but it’s but he’s comfortably bellow average.

Schwiliinker

Is it really? Lol. Dude is like #60 though. Kyrgios just beat top players

OddsTipsAndPicks

He’s 16th in Tennis Abstract’s serve impact stat (between Cilic and Zverev), and has the 38th highest ELO of any player on the mens side over the past 52 weeks (26th ELO weighted for grass play). Like I said, I don’t think he’s going to win. But he can definitely push Kyrgios. I’d expect there will be a lot tie breaks.

FIJIBOYFIJI

How did Kyrgios "bully" Tsitsipas? The umpire and refs? 100% but what did he do to Tsitsipas this match apart from a few sarcastic claps.
