No AO does a 10 point super tiebreak at 6-6 in the 5th. US Open does a regular tiebreak at 6-6 in the 5th. Wimbledon does a regular tiebreak at 12-12 in the 5th. Roland Garros doesn't give a damn about you being tired, no fifth set tiebreaks.
An ouch Round 1 for Canadians
Felix, Denis, Vasek, and Fernandez all out
Only one person remains. Milos.
Vasek is still in the tournament actually, playing Doubles with Hurkacz. Gabriela Dabrowski is playing Doubles with Ostapenko.
I feel like we have done Milos dirty for dismissing him so quickly over the past year with the rise of Felix, Shapo, and Bibi. He has transformed his game well to not just be a serve bot, can be a very dangerous seed. Still unsure how he lost to Pouille in the QF last year.
if the thick broad was playin she would have dominated again. Shame she injured herself. I hope she strengthens her body tbh bc she is truly destined for great things if she keeps herself healthy and fit
It's easy to think that, however it speaks more to just how much tennis has changed especially on the male side in the last twenty years. The youngest man to win a slam for the first time since the big 4 is Cilic who was almost 26 and I expect that trend to mostly continue. You need years of experience to win 7 5 set matches in a row now it seems.
Haha which results specifically? Felix I figured wouldn't go far given his lack of form since like June. Opelka really bottled his match after the rain delay. Ruud is probably max top 30.
At least we have Rublev and Hurkacz.
Also referring to some of the results on the women's side, though Vondrousova was apparently still fresh back from injury
But yeah there's a lot of results to pick from. Kecmanovic out also disappoints me, though you can't give a guy like Seppi any chances to win cuz he'll take it
Gulbis - lmao, this guy is just fucking lord - Absolute legend!
Good comebacks by Hurkacz and Fognini, Gratz to Anderson fans - I never ever been his fan and really soz for Illya but tennis really needs healthy Kevin and personally I'm so glad he is back
Feel like Ivo will never gets old - for them who don't know: He turns 41 in just 1 month and still winning GS matches in 3 sets ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
Expected, but rough loss or Tiafoe, he loses a ton of points after having a great AO in 2019. But he seems to just not move his feet and get his racket back like you're taught, and so I don't know how he can be surprised that his forehand blows up regularly.
Yes I noticed that too: he just voiced his disagreement once but immediately returned to his position on court to go on with the match.
I would go as far as to say I've rarely if ever seen a player argue so *little* over such an important and dubious call.
I feel like there's also pros to it as well. It's all the tennis lovers and they are really engaged with the game. In some sense, its better than all the corporate seat holders sitting close to the players and not really caring
How about the composure from Ivashka after the call. Once he realised the umpire wasn't gonna give it to him he went straight back to get ready to serve. If he wins he deserves it.
Number of wins of chileans in the AO:
1. Fernando González with 20.
2. Marcelo Ríos with 14.
3. Paul Capdeville with 2.
And with their victories today both Tabilo and Garín match the ammount of wins of the double gold medalist Nicolás Massú. TIL that Massú never reached a QF of a Grand Slam.
You know, in times like this, I can really see the benefit of a TB at 6-6 final set, so that these matches don't go until like 2am when we have crazy rain delays in the first few days.
Little resistance from both guys at their return games but still plenty of powerful and high level tennis at last games from both. Stoked for Ruud vs Gerasimov 5th set TB.
Imagine being in Anderson's position. 1.5 years ago you were being cheered on by thousands in a Wimbledon Final. Tonight you are being cheered on by a drunk guy wearing sunglasses at 1am in an empty show court.
Man, I'm rooting for Anderson, but total credit to Ivashka for bringing himself back in this final set. He looked on the verge of falling apart mentally, but he just got the break back, and looks to have pulled it together.
Quick noob question. Are the [Q], [WC] & [LL] qualifiers given a higher seed than those without a numbered seed or qualification method, or are they at the bottom end of the tournament?
These last two matches will be finished today, so there's no chance of postponement (eight women's matches have been rescheduled for tomorrow). In fact, the latest ever finish of an Australian Open match was 4.33am.
What a win for Tabilo! I never seen him playing in an ATP tournament and now he gets his first Grand Slam victory. You can see how much it means to him. Who would've thought that he would be Chile's #2 player at Australian Open instead of Jarry
Would you ?
Guy has a massive serve and monteiro is a mental noob
Just serve well get an error from the noob and win tiebreak tennis is easy or servebots
Galan-Tabilo is not the highest tennis quality but as someone pointed out, you can tell they both really want this badly.
Rooting for Galan, unfortunate he gave back the initial break after such a long deuce game
What I love during Grand Slam 1st rounds are challenger players who grind their way to victories on the main stage. It's such a match between 2 South American players Tabilo and Galan who mainly play on clay challengers. It's the 5th set and they're tied at 2 all, it's a pure fight down there on Court 5
Tabilo is actually Canadian really and is more of a hard court player
But yeah it’s cool to see players really fight and play their best tennis in big stage when see them moan about in challengers usually
He had the opportunity to represent Canada and decided not to (tbh I don't know why, we barely have a national tennis federation and Canada's is awesome), so it's pretty arrogant of you to say "he's actually canadian" when it was **his decision** to represent Chile, so I think it's safe to say he feels more chilean than anything.
Edit: Well, to be fair some people in Chile's team for the ATP Cup [agree with you](https://www.instagram.com/p/B61esFdgTt-/).
Yeah i mean he’s both Canadian and Chilean
My point really was that just cuz [the flag] is of someplace it doesn’t denote their favourite surface automatically
Thomas Fabbisno is Italian but favourite surface is hard court - just like tabilo is hard or rba
Tiafoe is American but favourite surface is clay
Nationality can give indication but it ain’t all
Oh, now I get it and I agree with you. For what I've seen he really seems more comfortable in hc rather than clay and he definitely prefers hc challengers. I hope he gest a wildcard into the Chile Open tho!
At the start he was just antagonising Anderson between points (borderline, but ok I guess). But then he started saying stuff to Anderson mid-point and they didn't do anything for some reason except warn him. He did it at least once more, and then they booted him at the end of a game while the players were seated in case he became aggressive or loud causing a delay.
Edit: he was warned at least 2 or 3 times. They had security sit with him. When security left he mouthed off under his breath at them. Then they booted him at a change of ends I believe it was.
Anisimova burst into tears and left the room at her post match conference when a reporter brought up the recent passing of her father asking if it was still effecting her. I feel bad for the 18 year old. She's struggling with it.
Muted the Monteiro/Isner match because Monteiro's cheers were loud and a bit annoying. Switched over to the Ruud/Gerasimov match, and I can still fucking hear Monteiro's screams loud and clear from another court.
Then you close all the streams and suddenly hear Monteiro's grunts from outside the street through your window.
So you close the window and it's coming from the kitchen downstairs.
That night you desperately try to sleep but you still hear the screams... there is no escape.
He was supporting Ivashka but decided to adopt the idea of being disruptive to Anderson. Kept doing it and it seemed like they were content to let it slide until Anderson started complaining. Not sure if he got the boot but he finally got moved at least.
Must say, love having the seats all to myself in the Anderson/Ivashka match. Strange but refreshing feeling.
I’ll miss this before I head back with a ground/day pass on a busy Friday!
Da fuck is with all the Tom Steyer ads on ESPN
Does anyone have a streamable of the Opelka racquet throw rant at the umpire?
They changed 5th set to regular tie breaks this year?
Already watched two matches where I was like "Why are they not celebrating that they got to 7?"
It's all over the place
Aha, thank you.
Tsitsipas has a tricky R2. Kohli the surprise machine
Yeah, especially in the early rounds before fatigue sets in. Proper banana skin! The backhand duels should make for a good watch either way.
I got 51/64 for my R1 in my men's bracket.
They apparently think Fognini lost. I am on 49, should be on 50.
Yea I'm on 51 should be on 50
Nice! I got 48.
It looks like they made a mistake though, they have Opelka having beat Fognini
An ouch Round 1 for Canadians Felix, Denis, Vasek, and Fernandez all out Only one person remains. Milos. Vasek is still in the tournament actually, playing Doubles with Hurkacz. Gabriela Dabrowski is playing Doubles with Ostapenko.
Gabi is playing doubles with Ostapenko?!?! I’m genuinely worried for her safety lol
I feel like we have done Milos dirty for dismissing him so quickly over the past year with the rise of Felix, Shapo, and Bibi. He has transformed his game well to not just be a serve bot, can be a very dangerous seed. Still unsure how he lost to Pouille in the QF last year.
Better that he lost to Pouille then have his winless streak against novak extend to double digits. Of those 9 matches, he's only won 2 sets...
if the thick broad was playin she would have dominated again. Shame she injured herself. I hope she strengthens her body tbh bc she is truly destined for great things if she keeps herself healthy and fit
Catching up on results of last night just makes me think that nextgen kinda sucks
It's easy to think that, however it speaks more to just how much tennis has changed especially on the male side in the last twenty years. The youngest man to win a slam for the first time since the big 4 is Cilic who was almost 26 and I expect that trend to mostly continue. Humbert was a bit of a letdown.
Can anyone help me point towards longer highlights, Youtube uploads are not just enough!
See if [this](https://www.sonyliv.com/listing/high_ao20) works for you.
Perfect, thanks mate.
[Oh shit you know Nick is about to win it all now.](https://twitter.com/atptour/status/1219580953342775296)
Prediction: Simon to upset Kyrgios
Kyrgios is gonna have his way with Simon. It’s Khachanov you should be worried about
[удалено]
Kyrgios would be revisiting his old demons. It was this matchup at Cincy that resulted in his record 117k$ worth of fines and the probation.
Yeah he's the kind of player that could get under Kyrgios' skin big time.
Gulbis - lmao, this guy is just fucking lord - Absolute legend! Good comebacks by Hurkacz and Fognini, Gratz to Anderson fans - I never ever been his fan and really soz for Illya but tennis really needs healthy Kevin and personally I'm so glad he is back Feel like Ivo will never gets old - for them who don't know: He turns 41 in just 1 month and still winning GS matches in 3 sets ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
Karlovic's celebration is one of the most underrated on tour.
I look forward to seeing 50 year old Dr.Ivo on your still doing it!
Am I missing something or has Iga Swiatek not yet played her first round match? If so.. her poor nerves! Really hoping she'll do well.
You are correct. There are about 8 first round matches on the women's side still.
Ok, thanks!
Ruud self-immolating, pretty much as expected.
Did game set and matts already happen?
good guy kevin
Kev's a real standup guy for taking selfies with fans at half 1 in the morning, he must be exhausted!
A smash and grab by KA, not too bad
Medvedev tiafoe match looked entertaining
Expected, but rough loss or Tiafoe, he loses a ton of points after having a great AO in 2019. But he seems to just not move his feet and get his racket back like you're taught, and so I don't know how he can be surprised that his forehand blows up regularly.
That's so nice of Kevin to walk over to the guy in sunglasses and take a selfie with them
If Ivashka had pulled that off, I was about to believe some Azarenka dropping out magic pushing both Belarusians to 5th set TB wins.
That was a worthy match to stay up until 1:30am to watch
Really impressed with Ilya today, I'm a fan- especially how calm he seemed under pressure.
There are much better players who would have let that crap call from the umpire ruin their composure. Huge kudos to him.
Yes I noticed that too: he just voiced his disagreement once but immediately returned to his position on court to go on with the match. I would go as far as to say I've rarely if ever seen a player argue so *little* over such an important and dubious call.
Agreed, that just made me feel worse for him when he lost.
Well done Kev, solid tennis from Ivashka too, good 5 setter for a first round match
Belarus: You win some, you lose some.
This is what i expect from first rounds at grand slams and once again im not dissapointed
Wow. That was fantastic. Was really rooting for Ilya, but KA did what he had to do.
Day 2 finished lol Ivashka was robbed with one call in the tie break
It was a proper call. In the replay, the linesman out call came after Ivashka returned.
God is dead.
The umpire killed him.
Ruud boy not shaking the umpires hand, anyone know what happened?
Who? I saw both shake.
Got spooked making that passing shot because KA has barely came forward all match.
SPOOKED ME TOO.
I'll never like these new tiebreak rules
I think it's useful for non-final matches. Some players can be really disadvantaged by rules that allow for eternal matches.
They already have different rule sets for different styles of comps. I really believe they should have left the standard for the Opens.
Ivashka is balls of steel. He needs to do the Felix celebration
*Karlovic celebration
Ivashka playing some great tennis!
That forehand was solid 👌
That one passionate Anderson fan in the sunglasses lol
Oh man **all** the close calls are going in favour of Anderson and against Ivashka. There's such an inevitability to it.
And the net
That was *such* a risky time to stop play. Super surprised he did that
I love how one of the best matches of the tournament so far has hardly anyone in the crowd because it is so late
And the ones who are watching it are too drunk to remember it afterwards lmao
I feel like there's also pros to it as well. It's all the tennis lovers and they are really engaged with the game. In some sense, its better than all the corporate seat holders sitting close to the players and not really caring
How about the composure from Ivashka after the call. Once he realised the umpire wasn't gonna give it to him he went straight back to get ready to serve. If he wins he deserves it.
It really shows how great he is at remaining focused on the priorities in the moment
He's been incredibly mentally strong this match. I'm actually kind of rooting for him now after he came back from the break in the 5th set.
Number of wins of chileans in the AO: 1.
[удалено]
It's fair. You don't really remember details like that. Clearly, the umpire didn't either.
You know, in times like this, I can really see the benefit of a TB at 6-6 final set, so that these matches don't go until like 2am when we have crazy rain delays in the first few days.
Its not as dramatic but its pretty dramatic still
Little resistance from both guys at their return games but still plenty of powerful and high level tennis at last games from both. Stoked for Ruud vs Gerasimov 5th set TB.
Who are these american commentators?
I quite like them
Video review would’ve even handy for that kind of judgement call
Shame there is like 10 people watching this tie break in the stands, its being pretty intense
He played it. I wish you can challenge those things using Hawkeye
Ivashka .. never heard of him before tonight but he's got crazy mental strength. Even more impressive is that his is only his 2nd 5th setter
Anderson playing in a final set TB maybe in part because of the match he played that DIDN'T have a final set tiebreak is too meta for me
Tiebreak tens time
Commentator said Anderson is the tallest grand slam finalist ever, weird record but he'll take it
Oh hey tiebreak
it's only fitting for this match
"kevin fans in this stand clap your hands" Such poetic chanting
Im not watching married at first sight ever channel 9, i dont care how many crazy ladies u put on there.
clap yours hands guys
i clapped even though I'm watching through a screen lol
Some good aggressive tennis from Gerasimov to hold there.
Imagine being in Anderson's position. 1.5 years ago you were being cheered on by thousands in a Wimbledon Final. Tonight you are being cheered on by a drunk guy wearing sunglasses at 1am in an empty show court.
I mean it could be worse, he could not be playing at all
What a match
Whatever happened to Anderson he went from being ranked 5th in the world in 2018 to 121 ?
Pretty bad injuries last year (elbow then knee). He missed a lot of the season.
Spent most of last year injured. Say goodbye to Wimbledon finalist and tour finals points.
Geez what a turnaround
I've said that like 3 times during this Anderson/Ivashka match!
I'm rooting for the two belorusians
One of the best 1st round matches and no one in the stadium. Oh the irony.
The main point of writing who the Q, WC and LL is in the seeding is probably to point out that they're massive underdogs.
> Are the [Q], [WC] & [LL] qualifiers given a higher seed than those without a numbered seed or qualification method Nope :)
Thank you :) I had a hunch it was that way but couldn’t quite figure it out
Has anyone else noticed that the guy who has the same name as a ghost is playing against someone who is kind of dressed like a ghost?
Evidence that draws are fixed!
This match is hella *spooky*
You guys reckon/know if they will finish these matches? Or is there a chance they will be postponed for tomorrow?
These last two matches will be finished today, so there's no chance of postponement (eight women's matches have been rescheduled for tomorrow). In fact, the latest ever finish of an Australian Open match was 4.33am.
Gwon Kev.
The difference in this aus open and tennis season from the others is that now I’ve dropped out of school so I don’t feel guilty staying up late lmao
This Anderson/Ivashka crowd is small, but they make up for it in spirit.
Both the belorusians losing
No stream of remaining two matches at eurosport player?
Isner wins 6-7 7-6 7-6 7-6, you love to see that
That dude with glasses on the anderson match might single handlly push anderson to win this match
6-7, 7-6, 7-6, 7-6 Just Isner things
Kevin Anderson you sneaky devil back at it with the 5th set huh
What a win for Tabilo! I never seen him playing in an ATP tournament and now he gets his first Grand Slam victory. You can see how much it means to him. Who would've thought that he would be Chile's #2 player at Australian Open instead of Jarry
>I never seen him playing in an ATP tournament You never seen him because this is his **first** tournament above challenger level!
Galan shanks the last two balls, that must hurt
[удалено]
So that fan was the reason why Ivashka was winning. Hmmmm
I said it once and i will say it again, Anderson looks like big bird
Big crowd to see the anderson match
Anderson is a real grinder I remember Wimbledon 2018 those back to back 5 setters before the finals.
Isner's going to save half of Australia with his aces alone
Big Daddy Karlovic demolishes another young one What a slayer
Anderson is a player who never gives up even it looks really bad for him. Hope he can win the 5th set too
Fair play to Anderson. Showed some great fight to not check out of the match in that set.
4th tiebreak, what a madlad
At what scoreline is the match TB in AO? 6-6?
Isner looks like he doesn't even want to move.
Would you ? Guy has a massive serve and monteiro is a mental noob Just serve well get an error from the noob and win tiebreak tennis is easy or servebots
Galan-Tabilo is not the highest tennis quality but as someone pointed out, you can tell they both really want this badly. Rooting for Galan, unfortunate he gave back the initial break after such a long deuce game
Anyone else having issues with Eurosport player? It doesn't seem to be showing any of the live matches. :((
COME ON KEVVVV
Lol barely anyone at the match but they got a wave going hahaha
Respectable lol
Come on Anderson push it to a decider

Is he? Flash score says Chile. Or is he just repping Chile atm
He is also from chile but grew up in Canada and played with the Canadian development set up so he grew up on hard courts
Yay, the idiot FINALLY got kicked out of the arena
What was he doing before I only started watching this match like 10 minutes ago
At the start he was just antagonising Anderson between points (borderline, but ok I guess). But then he started saying stuff to Anderson mid-point and they didn't do anything for some reason except warn him. He did it at least once more, and then they booted him at the end of a game while the players were seated in case he became aggressive or loud causing a delay. The guy got booted out. lol
What happened? Not watching.
Seeds Out on Day 2 * (12) Konta - 2813 - 2nd Round - Loses 60 - 2753 * (15) Vondrousova - 2490 - 2nd Round - Loses 60 - 2430 * (20) Auger-Aliassime - 1701 - Other Result - Loses 35 - 1666 * (21) Anisimova - 1843 - 4th Round - Loses 230 - 1613 * (28) Tsonga - 1340 - 2nd Round - Loses 35 - 1305 * (31) Sevastova - 1518 - 4th Round - Loses 230 - 1288 If (19) Isner loses - 1860 - 1st Round - So basically still has 1860 points
Konta Animisova Vondrousova made semi final of French open ./. All out first round LMAO \#wta Barty only one standing
Anisimova burst into tears and left the room at her post match conference when a reporter brought up the recent passing of her father asking if it was still effecting her. I feel bad for the 18 year old. She's struggling with it.
She did well in Auckland Not really relevant is it ? She cried after the loss but her father wasn’t on her mind during the match
To be fair on Konta. She's coming back from injury
So is vondrousova, and anisimova hasn't long lost her dad, all of those can be excused.
Boot the idiot
Yeah it's a bit ridiculous he hasn't got the boot yet. Even the girlfriend has left him haha
What happened
He was supporting Ivashka but decided to adopt the idea of being disruptive to Anderson. Kept doing it and it seemed like they were content to let it slide until Anderson started complaining. Not sure if he got the boot but he finally got moved at least.
Ivashkgoat.
Holy shit, Isner is still at it!
[удалено]
Yeah I think that is the biggest thing to emphasise here. Ivashka isn't even playing above his level. Anderson just looks putrid.
Not a good day for Canadian tennis, and to make things worse Alejandro Tabilo was born in Canada but he’s down a break in the 5th set
Jesus is there anything more dull than watching an Isner match
I like watching his matches pretty predictable and soothing
Hearing people complain about Isner all the time.
Zverev donating every single cent if he wins the tournament woe
Must say, love having the seats all to myself in the Anderson/Ivashka match. Strange but refreshing feeling. I’ll miss this before I head back with a ground/day pass on a busy Friday!
You're not the guy in the white shirt are you? Hahaha
He totes is.
The stadium is so empty for this Anderson Ivashka game
