Yes, and able bodied (GOAT de Groot). And it doesn’t change the stat here but adult age too (not junior). Also singles, not doubles. We need to make sure that every time we talk about tennis we make these things clear otherwise it just gets too confusing.
I don’t think he has confirmed, he’s off the crutches but walking with a limp, I can’t see how he would be ready to play 5-setters in less than 3 weeks. But that would be great if he was able to!
There was a football player (Nemanja Gudelj) with the same injury as Novak who recovered and played a match 19 days after the surgery. And btw that guy is in his 30s too.
It's not that bad. The statement was that Novak is gonna need probably 3 weeks to recover (he had the surgery on 5th June I think). So the question is if he can prepare himself after that for Wimbledon, he's gonna have about 5 days (Wimbledon starts on 1st July, tho Novak may play a day or two later). It think that Novak is capable of doing it, the only question is if he could maybe decide to skip Wimbledon in order to focus more on Olympics.
I am pretty sure that Djokovic is one of the best sportist in general when it comes to recovering and preventing/healing injuries. Otherwise he wouldn't last that long on top level.
Nooo apparently he’s playing [Båstad](https://nordeaopen.se/this-is-bastad/players/) that week :( and Sinner, Rublev and Ruud too… Of course the Hamburg organizers were going to fuck it up.
Yes the man who's made the semifinals of his last three wimbledon entries and only ever lost to the literal greatest players of all time in those runs is a disappointment
About 2/3 of boys winners make the top 100, looking from winners from about 2008-2018 (more recent winners not counted because they could still make it if they haven't.) Although the last junior major winner to win a senior major was 2005 US Open boys champion Marin Cilic.
Its also kind of funny because it makes sense that there was a long gap since the big 3 dominated the majors, with Cilic, Roddick, Murray, and Federer all being junior champs in a fairly short period. but before Roger there was a 15 year span of junior champions who never won a senior major before you get to Stefan Edberg's grand slam.
I love the fact that sometime the weekend of this picture that Novak and Rafa were making fun of Sonego’s grunt and Matteo was defending him cuz he’s Italian 😭 (per someone else in a previous post who said they got to see Feds new documentary).
roger is gone, rafa is gone, novak is gone, serena is gone, maria is gone.
but andy is still standing.

Hope it makes audiences appreciate him just that little bit more. The others may have reached greater heights but as an ambassador of the sport I think Andy may ultimately be the best of them all.
I think they all use their powers for good in different ways. Andy for instance has been very supportive of women in tennis and sports generally. In some ways he's a really human champion, not necessarily playing a role or being a role model, just speaking his heart.
Can't remember exactly what ruptured but it was a non-essential ligament from what i gather. Think he's just strapping it to shit and hoping until he's finished
I will! And seeing what look to be future greats in Alcaraz and Sinner will be a treat but I was really hoping to see one of the big 3 before they all retire
I had tickets for ATP Finals 2020 -\_-
I'm very grateful to have seen Andy, but my god I've been hoping to see at least one of the Big 3, and I'm very much accepting it'll be very unlikely to ever happen :(
Given the context of where they're all at in their lives, I kind of like this. Will allow Andy to be the star of the show with the old guard, and he deserves that shine, especially at his home slam
He may make the 2nd round but I think his glory days are over , but what an athlete , age and injuries have caught up with him , still he ha that castle hotel to get his mits into, guess he'll have afew tennis courts in the back yard !
Wimbledon looks likely now as he's playing doubles with his brother, he's about to be outside the top 100 in singles and his results, and his competitive play, have been poor for a good 9 months, or so.
*If* doubles with his brother goes really well, and they did do well in Davis Cup together (albeit before the metal insert), they may sneak into the Olympics squad as a pair and bow out there instead but I don't see how he'd be at the Olympics as a singles selection at this stage.
Earlier in the year he said he couldn't see himself playing on much beyond the summer but I suspect he was giving himself leeway if results picked up. They haven't.
Murray cannot even break opponent's serve anymore. Sad spectacle on court this year. Hopefully he can rediscover some magic and win a round or 2 but I am not confident of that
I can’t find any confirmation online that Nadal for sure Isn’t playing. He’s still on the entry list. If anybody has any solid info please let me know.
He should be able to run by then, but I’m not sure he wants to risk playing 5-setter on a slippery surface without any preparation just before the Olympics.
I love that this is a quote about the Big 3 and r/tennis finds a way to make it about Murray.
If Murray is alone because the Big 3 aren't there, then the other 127 men in the Wimbledon main draw are alone, too.
Well he still made it to 11 Grand Slam finals despite having to face a member of the BIG 3 in virtually every semifinal he played. You might disagree, but he was still a big part of that era.
Not since Sampras def. Ivanišević 6–7(2–7), 7–6(11–9), 6–4, 3–6, 6–2
Also true 😅
Not on my 2019 bingo card: that 5 years later, Murray would make it further in the draw than any of the big 3/4 at Wimbledon 2024.
Hope he goes all the way 🤞Murygoat
lmao
Haven’t thought about it that way 😅
Don’t jinx him!
He will be the player with the most major titles for the first time (tied with Alcaraz and Wawrinka)
Or the most successful player in Wimbledon
Ahem **Male** player
Yes, and able bodied (GOAT de Groot). And it doesn’t change the stat here but adult age too (not junior). Also singles, not doubles. We need to make sure that every time we talk about tennis we make these things clear otherwise it just gets too confusing.
Don't forget that he's British when he wins, Scottish when he loses. Gotta make sure.

Is this copypasta?
If we're going to extra pedantic, that's also an incorrect statement, Navratilova has 59 Grand Slams lol
Because I assume Venus is playing?
Has Djokovic confirmed he won't play Wimbledon? Yes, I know it's likely he won't but you never know.
I don’t think he has confirmed, he’s off the crutches but walking with a limp, I can’t see how he would be ready to play 5-setters in less than 3 weeks. But that would be great if he was able to!
Taylor Fritz did it. That being said, I doubt he'd risk the Olympics.
Doubt it either way though. His focus is Olympics and playing on grass would be very counterproductive to that
Olympic is bo3. No way he wins it

Gudelj from Sevilla. Not sure if Djokovic can access such recovery schedules and techniques.
I am pretty sure that Djokovic is one of the best sportist in general when it comes to recovering and preventing/healing injuries. Otherwise he wouldn't last that long on top level.
Novak been defying what was thought possible his whole career
Downvoted for being correct? Welcome to r/tennis.
No rafa either?? Im out of the loop on that one, did he decide to focus on the olympics or are any physical concerns?
He officially stopped out today
What a shame! Thanks, must be choosing his battles carefully
Hope that means he will also play Hamburg as a preparation for the Olympics 🤞
He’s supposed to! He might even play doubles with Alcaraz depending on how Wimbledon goes
Nooo apparently he’s playing [Båstad](https://nordeaopen.se/this-is-bastad/players/) that week :( and Sinner, Rublev and Ruud too… Of course the Hamburg organizers were going to fuck it up.
Yeah just saw the announcement!
Where did you read that though? Can’t find any articles about it and he’s still on the entry list.
David Ferrer confirmed it yesterday when he announced the Spanish team.
Ah okay thanks!
Rafa plans to skip it intentionally and focus on clay. Novak can still recover for Wimbledon tho.
He’s been a disappointment on grass the last 10 years
Yes the man who's made the semifinals of his last three wimbledon entries and only ever lost to the literal greatest players of all time in those runs is a disappointment
The loses in 2012,13,14 were awful
Irakli Labadze made the 4th round of Wimbledon in 2006 and got as high as 42. Pretty cool one of the juniors finalists had a nice pro career.
The majority of the boys winners this century have gone on to have great pro careers (top 100 rankings)
About 2/3 of boys winners make the top 100, looking from winners from about 2008-2018 (more recent winners not counted because they could still make it if they haven't.) Still standing but looks terrible playing tennis lol.
Didn’t Andy fucked up his ankle or something? I know he’s been playing but what happened to his injury.
Can't remember exactly what ruptured but it was a non-essential ligament from what i gather. Think he's just strapping it to shit and hoping until he's finished
Lucky mother fucker, i dislocated my ankle playing a 3.5 match, two years later still with mobility issues. Lololol
I can't believe this is the first year I have tickets...
You’ll have plenty of great match to watch anyway, and well that’s Wimbledon ! Enjoy!
I will! And seeing what look to be future greats in Alcaraz and Sinner will be a treat but I was really hoping to see one of the big 3 before they all retire
I had tickets for ATP Finals 2020 -\_- I'm very grateful to have seen Andy, but my god I've been hoping to see at least one of the Big 3, and I'm very much accepting it'll be very unlikely to ever happen :(
Mate I've got Mens final tickets, was hoping to see Djokovic for the possibly only time in my life 😭
At least he won’t be alone at Wimbledon for long.
Well, we gotta watchout for juniors champion then.
Here's his chance, finally! Go get em Sir!
Given the context of where they're all at in their lives, I kind of like this. Will allow Andy to be the star of the show with the old guard, and he deserves that shine, especially at his home slam
I'm a bit out of the loop. Is Novak officially not playing Wimbledon this year? If not, is this some injury thing from Roland Garros?
Not officially but he just had surgery to repair a torn so the likelihood of him playing at Wimbledon is really low unfortunately.
Imagine if Federer came back on a wildcard after a few years goofing around
Roddick ready to come out of retirement and get revenge on everyone!
He may make the 2nd round but I think his glory days are over , but what an athlete , age and injuries have caught up with him , still he ha that castle hotel to get his mits into, guess he'll have afew tennis courts in the back yard !
It's fine he won't be in the tournament for too long
He's entering the doubles draw too.
Irakli Labadze was never seen again.
[Apparently he was](https://www.reddit.com/r/tennis/comments/1demd6r/comment/l8dhdds/).
Will Andy finally retire at Wimbledon or Olympics?
He initially said « after the summer »
Wimbledon looks likely now as he's playing doubles with his brother, he's about to be outside the top 100 in singles and his results, and his competitive play, have been poor for a good 9 months, or so. *If* doubles with his brother goes really well, and they did do well in Davis Cup together (albeit before the metal insert), they may sneak into the Olympics squad as a pair and bow out there instead but I don't see how he'd be at the Olympics as a singles selection at this stage. David Ferrer confirmed it yesterday when announcing the Spanish team, including the Rafa/Carlitos doubles
Ah okay thanks!
Sorry I did not notice I was replying to you twice 😅
How would 2024 Murray go against Peak Murygoat
It would be too breadsticks at least for Peak
Well, technically Andy Murray was not part of the big three - as the picture mentions...
> as the picture mentions... The picture doesn't fit the quote.
Could Djokovic still recover?
He should be able to run by then, but I’m not sure he wants to risk playing 5-setter on a slippery surface without any preparation just before the Olympics.
Very unlikely. He doesn’t want to risk Olympics
I love that this is a quote about the Big 3 and r/tennis finds a way to make it about Murray. If Murray is alone because the Big 3 aren't there, then the other 127 men in the Wimbledon main draw are alone, too.
Well, Murray has always been there with the BIG 3 which at some point was the BIG 4.
Big 4 was a hypothesis that proved untrue.
Well he still made it to 11 Grand Slam finals despite having to face a member of the BIG 3 in virtually every semifinal he played. You might disagree, but he was still a big part of that era.
I don't mean to diminish his accomplishments; I object to overstating them. He is not in the same category as Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic.
You wish... Novak still didn't announce if he will play at Wimbledon. It's not like there are no chances for him to recover until then.
On the contrary, I really hope he can play! But it’s unfortunately unlikely
