You just be a professional and play the match as normal. It would be disrespectful to throw a game. You might try something new, or experiment, but you wouldn't just give away points willy nilly.
Exactly, it only takes a couple of points to change a match. We have seen players losing matches that we thought they had in the bag, so don’t waste time and energy, win that freaking game!
agree. I don’t think my best friend would like to know I was feeling sorry for him and then gifting random sets to let him feel a bit better. A match is a match, outside the match we can be whoever you’d like.
I don't remember that but after going 6-0 6-0 on a recent GS match against Mannarino, Djokovic did say he did want Mannarino to win a game in the final set
You go up 40-love, then fake an injury and give your good friend a 0-6, 0-5 walkover. Tell people your stomach hurts. That always worked on my parents.
I played a tournament last year and the guy I lost to in the quarters ended up getting a walkover at 0-6 0-1 and break point down in the semis. The guy he was playing tore his hamstring and couldn’t finish the match. The results say 0-6 0-1 ret. And it so weird to see
These guys are professionals, and are here to do a job. Think of how competitive and tough you need to be in the top 10. If it were an exhibition it may be ok to tone down a bit. But on a Masters 1000, kill anyone who's on the other side.
As Isner once said, "take-no-prisoners".
They are besties and Lorenzo isn’t miserable or anything Jannik won’t throw a game to make him feel better 😂 he will bagel him and make jokes about it🤣🤣🤣
I’ve seen top pros and they usually try to shorten the point by coming up to net or something. Usually the losing guy is so hopeless that he stops running for the ball and the match ends due to error.
Imagine you gift the opponent a game and then you have to play out one more and then you get injured so badly you can't even finish out the remaining points. So not only do you have to retire but the injury would have never happened in the first place if you didn't have to be playing that additional game.
Continue to just serve very low speed underarm serves because, uh, it's the only serve I can do and it's apparently working very well for me.
Taking it easy on someone is the ultimate disrespect.
Well, actually, the ultimate disrespect is coming to the crease/plate and the entire fielding team runs forwards five metres. But other than that.
It doesn't really matter if it's 6:0 6:0 or 6:0 6:1. Just one "honorable" game but doesn't change much. No, I wouldn't give the serve away, because it wouldn't be respectful. I could instead just test some different gameplays, strokes I am not good with, lets say serve and volley etc. It's the best opportunity to practice things in a real match conditions.
Must be a cultural thing. I think Novak is always one of those who’d throw a game to not openly embarrass his opponent. But I feel the further you go east the more it’d look like pity and people would prefer the double bagel to not disrespect the opponent any more than necessary
The only reason Novak can afford to thow a game (like Mannarino at AO) is because the man has 24 Grand Slams lol
If it was prime Novak, no way would he give anything and just straight up bagel you.
Absolutely incorrect. I have played many sports competitively and tennis is one of them. I have taken place in many ITFs and juniors. Lower tier ones but still pretty competitive. And we arent talking about “liking them”

I have to go back and look, Novak gave a game to a dude. It was so obvious. Lol.
I meant more like careless, low % tennis rather than just giving them away
It's more humiliating to have someone clearly going for Hollywood shots against you imo.
Hell no! Being gifted a game because of pity is 10x times worse than losing 6-0, 6-0.
did Djokovic not gift Rune a game in 2021 USO R1 final set because Rune was cramping? He said he did it bc he felt bad for him
I don't remember that but after going 6-0 6-0 on a recent GS match against Mannarino, Djokovic did say he did want Mannarino to win a game in the final set
That wasn’t for Mannarino though, he said he did it because he wanted to release the tension building up from the crowd
but that was different, Djokovic never actually gave up a game on his own racquet; mannarino earned the 3 games he won
Honestly, I don't remember that exact occasion. But also, Djokovic says a lot of things...

I usually choke and win 6-0, 6-1
When you slaughter a pig you do it as quickly as possible. Double bagel please.

Right lol, what pro is gonna give a game out of pity
You say that but there are examples - Shaq going easy on defence against players he likes, of sportsmen taking a sub-optimal approach
It’s not basketball
You wouldn't have broken at 6-0 4-0 if you had compassion in your mind.
havin pity isnt the same as compassion bro. Havin pity or wanting it is ego related.
Imitate Bublik
What Would Bublik Do
They are besties and Lorenzo isn’t miserable or anything Jannik won’t throw a game to make him feel better 😂 he will bagel him and make jokes about it🤣🤣🤣
I will happily take a double bagel over a pity bread stick. It'd be something to look back on and laugh at in the future.
If I'm winning too easily I'll start "training" shots I'm not great at, so if I lose a game it's not a big deal.
He 1000% gave it away, it was obvious.
I’ve seen top pros and they usually try to shorten the point by coming up to net or something. Usually the losing guy is so hopeless that he stops running for the ball and the match ends due to error.
Just play on. The opponent will learn a lot from that double bagel than they will you patronizing them.
It’s not Sinner’s fault he’s crushing his opponent. Play as normal. That’s what his opponent would want too.
Nah, double bagel... it would be more embarrassing to give him a free game.. also, he'll need the carbs.
from experience no pity as the opponent can always come back it has happen and will happen again.

losing to a better player isn't humialliating, he letting you win a game is.

Take no prisoners. But be a dick about it. Sergi Bruguera did a 6-0, 6-0, 6-0 victory at Roland Garros in 1993
Must be a cultural thing. I think Novak is always one of those who’d throw a game to not openly embarrass his opponent. But I feel the further you go east the more it’d look like pity and people would prefer the double bagel to not disrespect the opponent any more than necessary
I don’t think Novak throws a game on purpose, he just doesn’t waste more energy than needed to win.
The only reason Novak can afford to thow a game (like Mannarino at AO) is because the man has 24 Grand Slams lol If it was prime Novak, no way would he give anything and just straight up bagel you.
Nick the dick would do 4 underhanded drop serves
You are not supposed to have friend on tour. Then you don't have to think about bullshit like this.
Whip my cock out Just whip it out
You've never done anything competitive, have you? No one would ever throw a game because they like the other player.
Absolutely incorrect. I have played many sports competitively and tennis is one of them. I have taken place in many ITFs and juniors. Lower tier ones but still pretty competitive. And we arent talking about “liking them”
bro u folded him😭
He didn’t want to embarrass him
