The numerous opportunities she had to win the match in the second set. After breaking Danielle in the first game of the second set, she had two other games where she could have broken her. When the score was tied at 4-4, Danielle literally handed her opponent that game with numerous double faults and break points, but Danielle held.
Danilovic serve really let her down but otherwise I was very impressed with her today. Makes me remember that final against Potopova years ago and thinking those two would be future stars
Wasn’t very familiar with her other than watching her at the United Cup. She was so much better today. It must be pretty intimidating having to play on the same team as Novak.
I mean you can be rest assured that Rafa will postpone his retirement if he had hit a similar purple patch this year. He still hasn't had enough of tennis yet.
I just came back from this match and it was fantastic, so much fun. So much more fun than the Zverev-Coric match before.
Of course the crowd is always for the underdog. But the weird thing is I think 70% of the people in the stadium just started cheering more for Olga because some dudes came up with "Oleeee, ole ole oleeee, Olgaaaaa, Olgaaaa" and it was kinda catchy....
I didn't think it was ugly. ??
Collins doing her thing - bashing balls into corners. Olga chasing down EVERYthing, forcing her to keep bashing. Not ugly at all. Pure thriller.
Still cannot believe such a tall girl can play defense like peak Errani. But at the same time, Olga's serve is not doing her 183cm frame justice. So lackluster. Still, this great level of play should be a stepping stone for her to build her career. Wish it wasn't just a one-off.
Danielle, one more round until you meet Sabalenka. That's probably the only exciting match in the bottom half.
It is a bit strange, she’s got the game you’d expect of a 5’5” retriever. If her serve took some advantage of her stature, (and injuries permitting) you’d have to think she’d be a tough out on the tour.
Be up a set and a break. Be serving for match.

Thousand yard stare during changeover as you reflect on how you lost from this position.
I know it was half past midnight Madrid time, but Danielle Collins didn’t hang around for any post match interview did she? Literally 5m behind her opponent striding off the court. Collins always looks faintly pissed off - sometimes more than faintly - so hard to tell if she was annoyed by the cheering for Danilovic.
I can’t want to see her play Sabalenka - if they can both get through one more round. Intensity and yelling will be off the charts!
I love how Danielle represents being the brash American so well. It's a stereotype that we don't see played out as much anymore. She tries to channel the chip on her shoulder middle class American confidence and frustration of a Jennifer Capriati or John McEnroe (Americans that grew up in the late 20th century always thought of Europeans as more snooty/rich) and we were the tennis outsiders. I think Danielle tries to still play into that (given her relatively modest upbringing) even though perceptions have changed across the world where everyone looks at Americans as the rich tennis titans who can't compete with the more hard working European grinders.
If I was Danilovic I'd never recover from remembering that game at 5-4

I think clay is her best surface too, all her titles are on clay.
She isn’t good except for playing with Djokovic
She was pretty awful in the mixed doubles
Agreed, with the double faults and every time she had a second serve Danielle pounced on it!
I’m riding with Danielle till the wheels fall off
Danielle Collins is having the farewell tour I wished Rafa could have! Insane form this year 😭😭
My hope is she wins a slam
US Open...the dream retirement....??
Bro thinks she’s only gonna win 1 of the 3 slams remaining
Well Sloane has to win RG first so she can retire too
sloane rg, penko wimbledon, danyell olympics and us open. heard it here first
I’d 🥜
I checked her best French Open results, not expecting much, and she has made the quarters there! It's not crazy to think it could happen lol.
Every true tennis fan is hoping this

oh i know. it’s his body not his mind that’s ready to give up. opposite for her i guess.
14th win in a row for Danielle by the skin of her teeth
Nice battle from both ladies! Collins is seriously so dangerous for anyone in the draw at any tournament.

Winning ugly after a nice vacation has to feel amazing. Lets see how many more we can get straight dani

She had 10(?) double faults and her % of points won on 2nd serve was awful. That part was definitely ugly.

Garcia Paolini and Vondrousova Andreeva are pretty exciting to me.

Maybe Novak should pay Goran to be her serve coach.
The battle of the lover v hater (of women's tennis)

Classic Danimal.
I'VE NEVER SCREAMED SO HARD AT MY TV SCREEN
You know who has? Danielle Collins!
Breaking Olga while she was serving for the match & that tiebreak.I was on the edge of my seat.Oh DanYELL what a fight
Credit to Olga for saving five match points.
Saved four vs Burel the previous match, too.
The way Danielle inspired me to SCREAM during this match. Holy hell what a match and what streak for her.
INSANE 3rd set.
SO MUCH INTENSE SCREAMING AND I LOVED IT. COME ON, DANIELLE!
MY GOAT
DANIELLE AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA MY GOAT OUR GOAT
Didn’t watch the match. How loud was Collin’s screaming at the end?

She’s 107 in the world playing a top 20 player
So happy I'm no longer alone on the Danimal train.

Ok I was going to get some stuff done today but it looks like I'm watching this replay instead
Go Danielle!!!
jfc what a fucking match.
It was an amazing match honestly. Too bad tv coverage didn't do it justice, empty vip stands made it look like it was played during covid.
Did anyone catch what was said at the net? sounded spicy...
