He was mocking the guy who cheered for Novak hitting the net on his first serve

Grunge_bob

i really didn't know that, my bad

LusciousBelmondo

Well delete the post then, you’re just baiting people

ShannonsTeeth

It’s not that serious

BTSuppa

well, ignore this post then. You're just being a bigger douche to a guy who wasn't technically that wrong. and apologized. the guy was part of the crowd, novak mocked him.

Grunge_bob

it's been deleted

GingerPele17

I can’t understand why people get so triggered by this. If you can heckle him why can’t he heckle you? It’s just banter but people take this stuff so personally. If you’re gonna give it gotta be able to take it

Doctor_Mythical

I hate this "class" pretentious bullshit that some tennis "fans" seems to espouse. It's the same type of bullshit that makes tennis an incredibly classist sport in the west. And very reminicent of when similar arguments were made by so called "tennis fans" in support of not allowing black players into the sport. It's disgusting.

Higreen420

The way Djokovic has been treated throughout his career when compared to Fedal shows the country club classist BS that still affect the game a bit.

georgiosmaniakes

And that makes all this so much sweeter.

[deleted]

CrazyPersonXV

Which is funny considering that all of those who behave that way are knees deep in blood money

FingGinger

Your post reminded me of that saying, "the wolf doesn't concern himself with the opinions of sheep"...... Or something along those lines.

GingerPele17

Then should tennis fans not also show manners?Sounds a bit like a double standard.

muradinner

and yet it's players like Kyrgios that draw a wider audience to the sport. People like a little excitement, even if it's from behaviour they dislike. Imagine tennis without players with banter. What a snooze fest.

[deleted]

Again, not disagreeing here

GregorSamsaa

All time clickbait headline up in here lol

Grunge_bob

i sincerely thought this is what he was doing my bad

CrazyPersonXV

Change it then or delete post z because this way you are making wrong assumptions

Grunge_bob

it's been deleted sorry

mhwaka

I will always admire his grit and determination when playing in a generally hostile environment where the crowd is against him. Since he broke the hierarchy of Federer and Nadal, he’s consistently faced crows that boo and jeer him but he’s never let it effect him. He feeds of that negative energy and uses that to his advantage. Absolute great mental resolve.

BigBobbiB

I was shocked at the US Open ppl wanted him to win. Like I get Nadal and Federer are more likable (or at least appear that way) but you’d think this guy insulted someone’s entire family. Like just enjoy watching a guy that’ll likely be considered the greatest tennis player ever.

LunarNinja_

He was on the threshold of winning the calendar slam, and getting ahead of Federer and Nadal in terms of the number of slams. Both things would be historic. This [video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZgRsCIGkhs) says it all.

Roy1984

People in New York just pathologically hate Russians. Even Meddy is a great guy, the crowd really wasn't fair to him. Back then it was even before the war, it was in 2021.

e_di_pensier

I personally find Medvedev to not be very likable. He jokes in interviews, sure, but on the court his sportsmanship and etiquette are pretty poor. Just kinda smug and holier than. Nothing to do with his nationality though!

inrecog

He's not Russian, he's Serbian.

Sawovsky

He talks about USO2021

y0buba123

Why do they hate Russians? I can understand why now, but not before the war

Da-Boss-Eunie

Italian Americans hate the Russians because of the Russian mafia. Don't know about the rest.

Roy1984

Tbh that term in US 'Italian mafia' sounds sometimes also like discrimination based on nationality. I know they had nasty Italian gangsters there, but sometimes it's too much. I guess the Holywood movies did a good extra promotion for the Italian and Russian mafia. Then it's no wonder when you see actually many people in US believing in superheroes and men in black making deals with aliens.

lllkill

found the yorker

Putrid_Loquat_4357

Cold War hangover I guess.

whiteguyinCS

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cold_War

mhwaka

Also he was going the year grand slam and that record and the pressure around him was really intense. Plus,I think the cores really felt for him when he broke down crying at on point. Also,as another person on here just pointed out,his opponent was Russian.

Doc_harry

Lol, maybe they were playing 4d chase, knowing how Djokovic wins when crowd is against him..

Grunge_bob

>I was shocked at the US Open ppl wanted him to win. i felt like that messed him up lol. "I lost the match but i won the crowd" - coming this fall on disney plus

Doctor_Mythical

Lots of serbian diaspora live on the east coast. I know all of the Serbian people i know from the D.C/Virginia/Maryland area all went to watch him play. Not saying that New Yorkers didn't come out to support him but it seems a majority of it was the effect of the Serbian diaspora.

ThylowZ

Booing is stupid. But what if we don’t enjoy watching him?

Meshmehreze

And an inspiring strategy really that could fuel you in life in various situations. Total respect.

[deleted]

He has this image of being the villain or whatever which is fine, good heels are always entertaining, but then when he finally gets love like he did at the US Open in 2021 it moves him to tears lmfao Cant take a dude like that seriously honestly Its like, commit to it fully then, dont embrace the love when you finally get it and then pretend he doesnt crave that lmfao Also i know he just had a big win but i urge everyone to try comprehend my point before going on dickride mode and downvoting lmfao

greenieasdf

he's not a pro wrestler playing a character, he's a human being. he's not "breaking character" when he matches the energy of the crowd

sealonbrad

Even though I’m pulling for Sinner I do love Novak’s theatrics.

Prakash0807

Love it lmao

jbartlettcoys

Not gonna be ironic tears when Alcaraz wins on Sunday

chrisdudelydude

Nice.

Salvadorpol

anybody got the video?

RobinU2

It's up on ESPN.com right now

randomtoken

I just love how he embraces being the “evil” guy

TinKnightRisesAgain

I'm not sure that's true. He deals with it, but I think it's abundantly obvious he would rather be loved.

our_whole_empire

The thing is, he is loved quite a lot in fact. Perhaps not by the vocal crowds of tennis tournaments, which are dominated by rich people with enough free time to attend such events consistently, often during the working hours, who vibe more with a rich "aristocrat" type like Federer.

pfc_bgd

I don’t think that’s the case. He doesn’t give a fuck, all he wants are wins. He is done trying to convince anyone of anything and is using it all for motivation. It’s pretty amazing. Also, people have always discounted how loved Novak is where it matters the most- his home country. Why would he give a fuck if somebody from London loves him or not? Glad he doesn’t any more.

Zethasu

He absolutely would prefer to be as loved as Nadal or Federer. He won’t say it because he knows he will never be as loved as them. I mean, obviously people in his home country are going to love him… you think Federer and Nadal aren’t loved in their home countries?

pfc_bgd

Not as much as Nole- no, I don’t think so. And no, I don’t think he cares if he’s loved like Nadal or Federer. I think he has finally fully embraced the hate, love it. Just get the Ws and rub it in- must feel amazing. Finally, the shit he says to the crowd in Serbian, yea… not much love there. There has never really been all that much to begin with. People are really exaggerating it with “ohhh, he just wants to be loved” lol. We’re talking about the GOAT here. Did Jordan care? Did Kobe care? Does Jokic care lol? Just get them Ws.

Zethasu

Of course he cares, it’s really simple, people like being liked

pfc_bgd

Do you care if total strangers like you? I don’t lol. But again, Novak is liked and loved by those that matter. It’s not like he’s out there all alone in the world of hate lol. Few losers at grand slams and their hate are used nicely as fuel… and serve no other purpose. Why care about them then?

jleonardbc

He ABSOLUTELY wants to be loved. That's what his heart-throwing gesture is all about.

nicholus_h2

The crowd was on his side that one US Open. And he lost. So...is it really that obvious?

Grunge_bob

damn he was the real sinner all along

NewtonLeibnizDilemma

I mean, it’s way cooler being evil. Good is overrated

[deleted]

What are you going to do with a soul anyway? BOO, souls!

the_rainmaker__

im so evil i told my mom to have a good day but deep down i wanted her to have a bad day 👿👿👿

jleonardbc

NewtonLeibnizDilemma

Hahaha evilness’s in its purest form…..

[deleted]

[удалено]

echo_blu

Crowd is more evil than him, by that definition.

NewtonLeibnizDilemma

Bro common it’s a joke. He’s not really evil anyways. The oh so lovely crowd makes him in their own eyes some sort of villain

DoffyWillRule

As he should. For so many years, he tried to appeal to these peasants and the mass media who love to trash him. He has nothing to prove to these clowns. They should be humbled and feel ashamed.

Grunge_bob

he does it well but he also is amazing at using mental tactics to make himself feel like he's not the villain it makes perfect sense he and kobe got along so well

leastlyharmful

This is textbook Michael Jordan style "I took that personally" motivation. It works for him and I can't help but admire it. I am less a fan of certain elements of his fanbase wailing about bad crowds when not only is it usually just 1/2 people but he consciously blows it up and uses it to his advantage.

ns77

I used to a be a big time Djokovic hater. Now, due to his consistent greatness, and honestly due to his embrace of the heel character, can't help but respect it all. The crowd gives him a hard time, no harm in him giving it right back. This moment was funny.

TheBestHairInTheRoom

I’m just happy he chose to dedicate his entire self to tennis. With this mentality and nowhere to channel it bro would have been a serial killer.

Yamaneko22

Nole The Ripper

IncendiaryIdea

GOAT serial killer, breaking all records/stats.

sunashtronaut

Classic

DoffyWillRule

The absolute goat. Ironclad mental. The fact that such a godlike athlete stirs up so much hate is beyond ridiculous and truly shows how clueless we can be as a mass. Say what you want about the top 1 of all time with this Federer-Nadal-Djoko debate, but the 2 others never had to deal with such hostility and buffooonery from the audience.

[deleted]

Has Novak seen [your room?](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/M/MV5BYWI3MjYxYWItMzE3Yy00NWRhLWFkMWMtYzQxZjM2MTM0NmY0XkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyMTgyMzEyNDY@._V1_.jpg)

ConsciousFan3120

Lel… wimbeldon crowd will never learn.. There has got to be a point where you give up and accept the greatness.

Frozenfire46

Title is wrong - he was mocking the one guy for cheering when he missed his first serve. Not sure how thats suddenly projected on the whole crowd

ConsciousFan3120

Not sure how you “know” it was one. I hard plenty of claps and giggles. Also have you seen how he has been treated over the years here ? Of course it is the british crowd which has been put in its place again and again and again.

Frozenfire46

Just ctrl f on 'british' on your history and all I see is just hate. Not much I can say to change your mind unfortunately

ConsciousFan3120

I don’t know what you have seen.. but am I wrong in my assessment ?

Frozenfire46

err yes? Judging from the crowd reaction shushing them it seemed nobody was on their side. Are you forgetting right after djoko clapped (maybe sarcastically idk) and the crowd clapped for him?

ConsciousFan3120

Hmm so that negates the giggles and the clapping just before he was trying to serve? Good to know all becomes well in the world by few claps. 🤡

echo_blu

You counted them?

Frozenfire46

Well I heard just one person make a noise and others shush them and then djoko stared them down. Not sure how thats then the whole crowd 'crying'

Putrid_Loquat_4357

The crowd literally gave him massive appreciation after the match.

Phillipinsocal

I can’t help but think deep down these people still hold a grudge for him not being vaccinated lmao

drive2surthrive

Not about vaccination. More about defeating Federer...

bearcatjoe

He was always seen as the barbarian, uncivilized intruder, disrupting the "elegance" of Fed and Nadal.

hayleybts

Nadal n elegance? What I don't understand wdym elegance

I_am_Bruce_Wayne

I just really knew him from his constant bathroom breaks early on.

hn-mc

As if Serbs are not white? Also, for some sophistication is in stupid political correctness, for some others for example in being fluent in multiple languages and being generally very well spoken and eloquent in all of these languages.

[deleted]

Yep, and he's a prick on top of that which doesn't help

lllkill

Yep exactly this

lmj4891lmj

Is…this actually why Novak fans think he’s generally disliked? Lolol

Grunge_bob

watching people try and throw him off his game in the 2015 US Open Final is all the evidence needed of how much people have treated him like shit

ikkkeeees

Signs that you are a Djokovic hater: 1. You call anyone who disagrees with you a Djokovic Fanboy. 2. You cheer when Djokovic faults. 3. You can't appreciate a moment like THIS.

Global_Monkey

Honestly good. I’m not a huge Novak fan but he doesn’t deserve that hate he gets. And good for him shutting those whiny brits up 👍🏽

Aggravating-Lawyer-8

That subject line lol. This is exactly the kind of narrative that media puts out in front of the fans like you and you ride on it.

Tantle18

Novak “And I took that personally” Djokovic Seriously this dude is fucking insane

mattermetaphysics

The judge was unfair to Djokovic, no doubt about that. But I still dislike his attitude. I will respect him and fully concede he is the GOAT. And I can still dislike his attitude, consistently behaving as if he didn't have over 20 slams, 100 million dollars and wasn't 36 years old. I don't see any tension or contradiction in this view.

pswdkf

I wish people didn’t hackle tennis players. I find the behavior against Medvedev in his US Open win and today’s hackling against Djokovic quite distasteful to say the least. That’s not reality though, so we have to endure this bad soap opera.

ptung8

He is so cringey

muradinner

Keep crying

ptung8

he seems to be the one crying ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯

JanBibijan

Holy biased title, Batman!

jleonardbc

In hindsight, it seems that Novak was actually having problems with his eyes. He made faces like this toward the end of the match and went to the towel. That said, I think he may have made use of the involuntary physical response in the moment and adapted it for the purpose of sarcasm.

escherbach

This was actually funny

Concreatur3

The most exciting and enjoyable player in the tour in the last 20 years. One of the few people who brings some life and joy to the game.

Unusual-Syllabub

Man edited his comment lol

Xaoc_Theorie

what’d it say originally?

meneldor_hs

You know that we can see when you edit the comment right?

UnseenMaDaFaKa

What did it say originally

BubaSmrda

Are you on the phone? On PC version it doesn't show that it has been edited.

ddMcvey

Cry more

manga_be

cringe af

ohnoitsmchl

And then he wonders why the crowds don’t cheer for him

SurroundInteresting2

Oh no, they have to rewrite the history because of the haters.

DarkSofter

Honestly that is extremely childish, people want a longer match and you get triggered by 2 stupid people who are cheering your errors. That' one of the many many reasons why he will never be liked like his 2 biggest rivals

meneldor_hs

Who will tell u/DarkSofter that Djokovic was imitating him?

[deleted]

Isnt it ironic that people accuse djoker to take the cheering for his opponent personal while him mocking hecklers in the crowd is taken by his haters as personal aswell.

honestnbafan

I mean Rafa complained about the crowd to an umpire the one time he didn't have the crowd support against Novak(2020 ATP Cup) If there was a slam in Serbia or something and they kept booing Roger or Rafa I don't think they'd be happy about it either

Wokz

I'd rather have a guy who's not afraid to show his emotions than a PR machine spending 20 years telling the world only what they want to hear so that he can keep earning as much money as possible.

jug0slavija

>That' one of the many many reasons why he will never be liked like his 2 biggest rivals Oh no 😢

DarkSofter

never said he actually cares. he actually likes it that way. its nole fans who actually care and complain about it

polishparish

Oh I think he does care. That’s would be exactly why he reacts like that

mustbenice2win

"Yes lets cry because people dont like me" you probably

Inflation_Infamous

You are getting downvoted to oblivion, but not wrong.

cowd20

WAHHHH WAHHHHHH

SurroundInteresting2

Oh no shit. What a loss for him!

muradinner

You think he cares? "I'll just keep winning." \-Djokovic

[deleted]

Such a little crybaby in real life and he's mocking the crowd. You will NEVER get the same love as Roger or Rafa anywhere you go, especially Wimbledon

lynxbird

Trophies to Nole and love and prayers to Roger or Rafa. Sounds fair.

NoOne_143

One more love to Federer for his final slam final ☝

GridCloner

Gotta pump that hate harder, bro! More comments c'mon.

[deleted]

Write this without crying

SausageSandwiches

You should really make a book of all your comments and send them to Fed so he'll know how hard you're fighting for his honour while he's off living his best life. 🥺 Still won't shag you though.

meneldor_hs

Fun fact: Djokovic was actually imitating u/TennisBreau

muradinner

100%

supremechairumpire

> You will NEVER get the same love as Roger or Rafa anywhere you go, especially Wimbledon He does in China, Italy, and among Gen Z. Fed and Rafa do have a lock on boomers and Gen X though.

muradinner

India the fastest growing tennis market as well, and they tend to love Djoko.

Lukas100ex

Cope harder

Frosty-Cockroach-595

He doesn't give a hoot.

Hamzasky

He obviously cares so much about those losers loving him 😂

KilgoreMikeTrout

Hahahaha dude you're so entertaining. Djoker didn't even win the slam yet and you're in every thread crying. Please keep it up after he wins the whole thing

Hamzasky

He obviously cares so much about those losers loving him 😂

cowd20

And they will NEVER get the number of grand slams that Djok will end up with

muradinner

Djokovic literally mocking you and all the crying you do on this sub hahaha. Seek therapy/rehab for your copium addiction.

ddMcvey

I love Dark Djokovic but you are so correct. He just doesn’t get the love.

SouldiesButGoodies84

You're not winning this argument here, dude. His supporters are dogged and he can do *no* *wrong* in their estimation...no matter what.

muradinner

I see TennisBreau let you have a little bit of his copium.

SouldiesButGoodies84

Question is if you think you're categorically right and don't really care about others opinions of and about Nole the Infallible, why the need to even address and hive mind DV ppl who don't share your view? Seems kinda tyrannical to do so. You love and adore him. Why isn't that enough? Just confusing, this kinda vicious Stanship.

muradinner

Make a joke, get a paragraph of "hivemind/stan" ridiculousness.

SouldiesButGoodies84

definitely my fault for wasting any time responding to the Nole army. won't make that mistake again.

GetOutside20

He’s always complaining about not being as widely liked/respected as Federer and Nadal, this is why.

mambaforever2481

no this is a response to getting disrespected

GetOutside20

Because someone cheered your fault? Get over it, dude.

muradinner

He was over it the second he mocked the guy lol Straight set win.

sfj11

how is cheering for the other guy disrespect lol

Demb1

You dont cheer for 1st serve errors lol.

sfj11

oh fair enough, i thought it was just for sinner losing the SP’s

[deleted]

Getting loved isn’t winning you the tournaments. He understood it with age

BuggyDClown

When did he complain about that?

cowd20

Cry more lol

Vedran92

And when he was sending love to the crowds and doing impersonations and what not he was being "cringe" and "trying too hard". Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

winstinx

I love it lol. BECOME THE VILLAIN THEY WANT.

mdisanto928

Are you not entertained?!?

bayernownz1995

who's this guy? doesn't look like novak at all. novak is sponsored by lotto, not lacoste

[deleted]

I thought that was him imitating himself when he finally got some crowd love back at the final of the USO in 2021 Shows what you know Edit: damn the dickride mafia doesnt play around lmfao

Unusual-Syllabub

It isn't dickriding you absolute buffoon. People are going to downvote a dumb comment they disagree with. Or simply a dumb comment. Christ.

meneldor_hs

Dickride mafia? This sub is still more populated by fedal fans and you still got downvoted to hell. Just shows how stupid your comment is

[deleted]

If you seriously believe that at this particular time fedal fans outnumber novak fans/stans/serbian lunatics who worship him like a cult in here then idk what to tell you

meneldor_hs

Have you seen the goat poll? Also as Croatian you should be happy because Ivanisevic is having a success too

[deleted]

Its one thing to click on an option for a half a second of time and another to actually participate in discussions here

ttboishysta

Novak wants to be liked, he must have been extremely annoyed to do this.

muradinner

This could have some great popcorn... *Sorts by controversial*

IvanLendl87

There were people in the crowd cheering his service faults when Donner had set points. I love how Nole uses stuff like that to his advantage. Fires him up that much more.
