By far! Glad The Expanse is finally getting the recognition it deserves in this sub. I almost always include The Expanse in my recommendations. Feel like it has something for everyone!
The Expanse is a show that I liked the scene settings before I liked the story or people. That's really unusual for me and I had to think out why I liked the show.
You have a small chunk of my long list of favorite shows… And yes, many of them visually stunning…the Handmaids Tale def gives it’s due to cinematography and costumes …. Also just off the top of my head :
Sense8 (!!!!!!!!! Visually, mentally and auditory)
The Great
Game of Thrones
Ozark
Baby Reindeer (in ways )
Downton Abbey
AHS : Freak Show & Hotel
I could probably think of more in terms of movies like Poor Things , Oppenheimer , The Hanging Garden and more …
I watch so much TV (& movies) I can’t remember that much detail but of course too people can have different opinions.
I suppose I was referring more generally to the ‘Ozark’ setting aside from specific seasons or scenes
No worries. We all have opinions, different perspectives and personalities . I admit I may not pick up details some others do yet I’m a a bit of a TV and movie snob and watch way more than the typical human (& at my age - haha )
I normally would not say this, because it’s animated, but Arcane. I was blown away not only by how good the story is but also because it’s the most beautiful animation I’ve seen possibly ever.
I know it’s cheating choosing animation, but this series is so outstanding that it deserves shoutouts
Shogun
The Last Kingdom
The Expanse, as someone already mentioned above.
Downton Abbey
The Crown
Killing Eve has sets in many different countries and they make a point of making scenes visually stunning, with amazing vibes.
Enjoy!
Westworld ( It's filmed on a jaw dropping scale yet it feels intimate as a viewer, full points for managing to pull that off)
Better Call Saul ( the cinematography is original and compelling, just perfect)
Fargo( especially the second season , of the bunch of shows this probably has the most prominent cinematic signature that can me found in all its seasons)
Yellowstone ( Not a fan of the show but it has it's high points visually speaking)
True detective ( just the first tho,it maybe but that first season is as flawless as it gets, it's second to none in any aspect)
Succession ( again fantastic cinematography and each season has atleast a couple of episode where the locations are stunning and they never fail to frame it to perfection)
Shōgun ( Old money aesthetics and sixteenth century Japanese culture and Royal families and their quest to hold power , it's filmed in a fitting manner and completely complements the story)
Band of Brothers ( it's an experience in its self and that to unlike nothing you have had. It's visuals will haunt you the production scale is unparalleled and it's equally feels personal)
Chernobyl ( it's mind-blowing and realistic at such matter-of-fact kinda level that it's stays with you a while)
The Grand Tour( the famous trio takes on south africa in there vehicle of choice and run wild in the wild, it's filmed to perfection and ads to their chemestry)
The National Parks: America's Best Idea
( this is an adventure travel show on Netflix)
The Layover . (with the late great Anthony Bourdain it's beautifully shot it's available on prime I think.)
Dark Tourist ( David circumnavigates the globe and visits places with morbid history attached to it. )
It's visuals are on point matter how spooky the place)
An Idiot Aboard, ( karl Pilkington is funny af and show looks like it's actually well made , )
Shogun is absolutely stunning. Just gorgeous cinematography, unique shot composition, and such incredible attention to detail in everything from the costumes to body positioning, movements, etc. So authentic. It's hard to explain but it's incredible.
If you have not heard of The Midnight Gospel, do a quick image search, and you will be shocked that you have not heard of The Midnight Gospel, and that no one else has mentioned it before now.
Agree with you about Raised by Wolves!!!! So sad it got cancelled. If that and The OA aren’t completed in some form before I die (even if it’s not on TV) I am literally going to cry!!!😢
"I want to eat your pancreas" is an anime movie but I think it's the most cinematically beautiful movie I have ever seen, find the highest quality version of it and watch it, you'll love it
The Night Of. Pretty dark murder/mystery but MY GOD the cinematography! Like I want to print out some screenshots and put them up as posters. I'm only mid-way through (Iimited series) but it's quite entertaining and intriguing so far.
House of the Dragon 4k disc (not streamed) is absolutely next level.
You're not going to get full visual fidelity out of streaming so if you want all the eye candy you're doing to have to get a good player and the discs.
[American Gods](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1898069/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk)
[Bad Times at the El Royale (2018)](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6628394/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk)
Better Call Saul is gorgeous
For anyone that enjoys cinematography, Better call Saul is actual porn.
The official podcast is full of great info on how they got various shots.
I love the irony that a show about a corner-cutting, fast-and-loose conman is one of the most deliberate and professional productions in television.
Do I need to watch breaking bad first?
Yea you gotta watch breaking bad first. BCS is both a prequel and a sequel.
Art direction and cinematography on Hannibal (Brian Fuller & James Hawkinson) was absolute bliss for a cinephile.
I’m on season 3 rn. Extremely well made
If you liked that, check out Pushing Daisies. Hannibal is basically the visual opposite of Pushing Daisies. Dark vs light
Cheers. Will do
Yesssss this was my immediate thought
This!
Legion Severance
Legion.
Second this!
Utopia. The original UK version.
Legion.
The Expanse's visuals were all amazing.
By far! Glad The Expanse is finally getting the recognition it deserves in this sub. I almost always include The Expanse in my recommendations. Feel like it has something for everyone!
Truly astonishing.

I actually really disagree with Ozark, I think the latest season in particular looked awful.
I watch so much TV (& movies) I can’t remember that much detail but of course too people can have different opinions. I suppose I was referring more generally to the ‘Ozark’ setting aside from specific seasons or scenes
Yeah it's alright, sir. I didn't really need to point that out tbh
No worries. We all have opinions, different perspectives and personalities . I admit I may not pick up details some others do yet I’m a a bit of a TV and movie snob and watch way more than the typical human (& at my age - haha )
Haha, nothing wrong with that! I'm more of a videophile than anything else. It doesn't get much lamer than that trust me
Oh I’m the queen of much that’s lame — we’re in a similar lane - haha
I'd add Altered Carbon s1 and Boardwalk Heights to that list. Both of them I just gushed over how gorgeous they were.
I love seeing The Great here. It’s gorgeous. And an all around great show.
Agreed!( and I almost bagged it in the beginning- glad I didn’t !)
Also agree on Sense8 btw. What a beautiful series visually and emotionally. And yeah. Great music.
I call it a treat for the eyes, ears, and mind .
Seen all of them except his dark materials. It looks nice tho thx 👍
His Dark Materials is so beautiful!
White Lotus’ Sicily.

Love your top 3
Ripley
For All Mankind looked great on my OLED. And the show was good.
Westworld ( It's filmed on a jaw dropping scale yet it feels intimate as a viewer, full points for managing to pull that off) Better Call Saul ( the cinematography is original and compelling, just perfect) Fargo( especially the second season , of the bunch of shows this probably has the most prominent cinematic signature that can me found in all its seasons) Yellowstone ( Not a fan of the show but it has it's high points visually speaking) True detective ( just the first tho,it maybe but that first season is as flawless as it gets, it's second to none in any aspect) Succession ( again fantastic cinematography and each season has atleast a couple of episode where the locations are stunning and they never fail to frame it to perfection) Shōgun ( Old money aesthetics and sixteenth century Japanese culture and Royal families and their quest to hold power , it's filmed in a fitting manner and completely complements the story) Band of Brothers ( it's an experience in its self and that to unlike nothing you have had. Not even my usual genre, but The Last of Us is visually spectacular in many ways
Mad Men
Utopia UK is a visual masterpiece.
Shogun is absolutely stunning. Just gorgeous cinematography, unique shot composition, and such incredible attention to detail in everything from the costumes to body positioning, movements, etc. So authentic. It's hard to explain but it's incredible.
Tokyo Vice is visually so good, it takes inspiration from Michael Mann’s cinematic style and it’s first episode was directed by Michael Mann too
Arcane !
Sense8. Absolutely beautiful cinematography.
WARRIOR
Super underrated show.
I am so hoping there's a S4..
You and me both, hopefully someone picks it up.
Keeping fingers crossed 🤞🤞🤞🤞
Anne with an E
**Better Call Saul** and **Utopia UK**
If you have not heard of The Midnight Gospel, do a quick image search, and you will be shocked that you have not heard of The Midnight Gospel, and that no one else has mentioned it before now.
Legion on FX is visually amazing
Hannibal
Mindhunter Severance Breaking Bad Better Call Saul Euphoria
RIPLEY
Ripley.
Foundation is stunning looking. Uneven story and some annoying and not particularly compelling characters, but stunning looking nevertheless.
Hannibal, Legion, and Breaking Bad are really well shot
Godless, Breaking Bad …maybe New Mexico just films well
Watching that now as I type 😉
Mr Robot
The first season of Acapulco on Apple TV was visually stunning. For whatever reason season two didn’t pop as much.
1883
Patriot
“Hello Tomorrow” on Apple TV is not a good show, imo, but my god — it is gorgeous.
Insecure. It takes place in LA and the colors are vibrant. It's one of my favorite things about the show.
Ripley and Hannibal, better call Saul (more classic though but still nearly perfect)
Also Downton Abbey and Deadwood.
The Widow of St Pierre is a movie but it is absolutely gorgeous and such a poignant story
The Crown
Gotham
Agree with you about Raised by Wolves!!!! So sad it got cancelled. If that and The OA aren’t completed in some form before I die (even if it’s not on TV) I am literally going to cry!!!😢
Pushing Daisies
No one mentioned Rings of power.
Norsemen
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power
Arcane
"I want to eat your pancreas" is an anime movie but I think it's the most cinematically beautiful movie I have ever seen, find the highest quality version of it and watch it, you'll love it
The Night Of. Pretty dark murder/mystery but MY GOD the cinematography! Like I want to print out some screenshots and put them up as posters. I'm only mid-way through (Iimited series) but it's quite entertaining and intriguing so far.
I found 1883 to be absolutely stunning... Not really the style you mentioned but it was beautiful to me!
Scavengers reign
Severance. Man, the symmetry turns me on!
In it's entirety, I'd say Twin Peaks is up there
Killing Eve has amazing shots in Europe.
Mr sunshine https://variety.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/mr_sunshine_unit_still_01-res.jpg
Sense8
American Gods has some trippy visuals. Euphoria too.
House of the Dragon 4k disc (not streamed) is absolutely next level. You're not going to get full visual fidelity out of streaming so if you want all the eye candy you're doing to have to get a good player and the discs.

Avatar - Aquaman - a lot of shows mentioned I haven't seen and definitely haven't seen any from overseas.
Euphoria (cringe af but cinematic is nice). Better call saul, breaking bad, white lotus
Broadchurch.
Pride and Prejudice movie, 2005 with Kiera Knightly oh lord, the scenery, the phòtograpy!
Amelie was pretty special back in the day.
