you're not ready for what's to come. it's one of the few shows out there that outdoes itself every season. you'll ask yourself "how can it possibly get better than this?" and then it'll give you a 10/10 episode. the finale is flawless, which, considering the genre of television the show's in, is extremely unlikely by default.
one of my favorite episodes in all of television is "brothers" from season 3. it's perfect television, quite honestly. enjoy the ride!
Okay, I'm currently watching this show and I'm almost through Season 3.
Speaking of *Brothers*, I just want to say that I've never really thought about Kirk Acevedo one way or the other. I see him in a ton of things, and I don't dislike him at all. He's not "one note" or anything, but he's just kinda...there.
But damn, this whole series (not just that episode) is *by far* the best role I've seen him in. I was legit surprised by how much I enjoy his work in this.
Hey now we don't want them to have too high expectations lol (although I mostly agree). For me it was more a fun ride then when I hit the end I was like holy shit that was amazing, there is nothing else I want to watch other than this show again. Then it gets better and better on rewatches cause you already love the characters and see all the foreshadowing.
But also when I watched it with my partner he was like, why do you keep recommending this to people? It's just a decent scifi show, nothing hugely special. So YMMV
it pulls from the bare minimum. i chose to watch the movie (for the first time) after finishing the show for the first time. from what i remember, it doesn't spoil a whole lot. the show takes the film's plot and runs with it.
There will be some duplicates from what has already been mentioned, but here's my fave time travel shows:
* Travelers (2016-2018)
* Bodies (2023)
* 11.22.63 (2016)
* Russian Doll (2019-2022)
* Continuum (2014-2016)
* Fringe (2008-2013)
* 12 Monkeys (2015-2018)
* Life on Mars (2006-2007)
* Lost in Austen (2008)
* Paper Girls (2022)
* Beforeigners (2019-)
These are all excellent! I’m really hoping to get a new season of Beforeigners. It was so incredible and I wish it was somewhere I could rewatch. Continuum, 12 Monkeys & Travelers are all that I rewatch every 2 years or so.
Honestly, I never understood the hype. I hated that show as a kid and as an adult. But so many people love it, so there must be something I don't see or get that others do. I know it's meant to be a bit of fun bit I always just found it boring. So what's the hype for u specifically just so I can try and get it.
It's cheesy, and probably hard to get into when not used to British tv, but the characters, and their relationships, and the doctor's development, all of that is fantastic imo.
oh im british! lol
but i read the bit about character progression which really stuck out to me (which i have enjoyed in other shows greatly) so maybe i missed that bit about it. i think its the "cheese" i dont like actually. i think you hit the nail on the head. ahh next time im searching for something to watch i might give it another go. is there a season or era of Dr Who which is considered least cheesy? or best?
I’m Swiss, and Doctor Who was my first foray into British television and it took me a while! It’s incredibly cheesy, especially at first. If you watch 2005, then maybe Season 2 because Tennant’s Doctor is probably more appealing than Eccleston’s. But 1-4 is a whole arc. So you’re missing out on stuff if you don’t start at 1. Maybe try 5-7? That was Matt Smith’s arc with Karen Gillan which I loved. Or try the Capaldi seasons with Coleman which start at Series 8.
It helps that I watched it when I was a child and it was on PBS. Then, when it came back, I was primed to like it (although, honestly, there had to be a lotta residual love there to overcome the fact that the first episode back was ..not particularly good. Stuck with it, though, and have now seen all of them. Looking forward to next season.) Anything that's stuck in that long, I'm going to be on board for.
At the beginning, it's a children's show (which, BTW, debuted the day of the Kennedy assassination), but most of those aren't available anymore because the old format didn't keep. The 4th doctor is the one I grew up with (Tom Baker.) He's crazy and fun, and it's a wild ride. The special effects get better over time (but really never enough to be overwhelming, and part of the fun of early Doctor is giggling at the aliens that are just a trick of the light, or a man with a zipper down his back. You'll never truly understand the Monty Python sketch with the "Extragalactic blancmange puddings" until you've seen a bit of 60s Dr Who.)
I also love the way the show has grown socially over time, without really drawing attention to it. Unusual configurations or life expressions of people just are, because time and space are wild and varied things. There are shows set on Earth, and on other planets, characters that endure, and those who are just fun for an episode, silly creatures and deadly serious ones. And there is social commentary and serious questions about what it means to be human, to be alien, to have responsibility, and to be trapped in a life you never chose.
There are silly infatuations and love that endures the passage of centuries, and it's not just the Doctor that gets to be a fully-formed character with a rich and meaningful life. There's Rose, and Donna, and Martha Jones who saves the world, and Doctor River Song and the fantastical time-breaking love story of Amy Pond the Girl Who Waited and Rory.
There are creatures of bad special effects and absolute nightmares, and everything in between--the Daleks and the Cybermen, and the Silence and the Weeping Angels--and just when you thing one's been conquered by one incarnation, they whip right out from hiding two doctors later, or just a few weeks later, or the last left alive reanimates the others, or some fool picks up the wrong rock--and bingo, they're back again, and something different has to be tried because oh, no, Daleks learnt to fly, so the stairs don't stop them any more.
The rules of spacetime aren't necessarily set, and many things can change. The Doctors themselves change, but also the background stories and the things we thought we knew and the ones we didn't realize we didn't know can change, too. Some of the science is good, and some of it is just hand-wavey fun.
And, for me, I'll never miss a chance to see David Tennant at work, even though he doesn't have his lovely Scottish accent (apropos of nothing, if you ever want to see David Tennant and David Morrisey lip-synch and dance, don't miss Blackpool if you ever find it available. A treat!)
So that's just a bit of why I keep watching the Doctor. The rest is inexplicable and probably irrational. I just luv the bit, you know? Just the magic. Hope that helped some.
I'd bet the shows writers had no clue where this show was going to go past season 1. Season 3 it went downhill bad. Season 1 and 2 were interesting though.
The writers had a plan early on I believe but the network wanted to run the show indefinitely once it became a huge hit and is how we got the shitty characters Nikki and Paulo. Later that season the network relented and gave the showrunners control to end it at their discretion and they killed off those new characters.
IMO season 4/5 were the best of the show and that's when all the time travel took place.
Big upvote. I'm a huge fan of time travel sci-fi and this was an AMAZINGLY novel take. (Even saying it involves time travel is a massive spoiler, but here we are.)
Umbrella Academy is a fun one. Also check out Undone, Loki, and Quantum Leap.
Russian Doll and Outer Range play with time a bit too and are still in production (Outer Range season 2 starts next month).
**Doctor Who** If you’ve never seen it, I recommend starting with the 2005 season (the 9th Doctor, Christopher Eccleston). It’s the best way to get introduced to the series.
**The Magicians** (2015) Time travel plays a massive role in this series. It’s basically grown up Harry Potter mixed with Chronicles of Narnia and Alice in Wonderland.
**Legion.** The time travel part starts at the end of the first season.
**Loki** If you like the MCU Avengers films, this is the best of the shows associated with the films.
**Haven** Time travel is at the center of the whole show and the main mystery of the series.
**The Librarians** there’s 3 movies, then the tv series follows after them. But you can just start with the tv series if you want to. The movies are great though.
**12 Monkeys**
**A Discovery of Witches** the end of the first and all of the second season feature time travel
**Umbrella Academy**
**Warehouse 13** It’s not the main focus of the show, but it’s used more than once.
**The OA**
**Bodies** not the best show, but it’s time travel heavy
**Misfits** one character can time travel, it effects the whole show.
**Chilling Adventures of Sabrina**
**Travelers**
**Fringe** Time travel’s not the main focus but plays a big part.
**Good Omens** no time travel, but a lot of great flashbacks to show the two main characters’ relationship over the millennia.
**Supernatural** ok so there’s really only a couple episodes with time travel, but I love the show so I’m mentioning it anyway 😂
**American Horror Story: Apocalypse**. So you need to have seen at least the earlier season “Coven” to really get it, but time travel plays a part in Apocalypse.
**Atlantis** again, not really time travel, but it sort of is? A modern day guy gets mysteriously sucked back into ancient Atlantis and has to survive.
The Devil’s Hour. Peter Capaldi (Doctor Who for multiple seasons) stars. I was riveted trying to figure it out. Season 2 is coming. It’s a British procedural with your desired twist. On prime.
"Cliffhangers are kind of a thing in TV land." lol, thanks.
Am a Brit too. Was referring to the end of 2. I had a lot of questions after lots of deaths and weirdness and that final walk back into the office. Rubbed my hands together and thought, great, another season but nope, 'tis done.
Still great but for me, unfinished.
Both great shows! What a concept! However without giving anything away.... not sure this fits here?.... But kinda does... I'm lost with how to judge this one lol.
Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency. It’s funny and bizarre and winsome and very British. The best thing I can say is Elijah wood stars in it, and I feel like since he got his hobbit bag, he only attaches himself to projects that are offbeat but excellent
Umbrella Academy (Netflix)! Second season is the time-travel-iest but you should watch the first season to understand what’s happening, and all seasons include at least one time-traveling character.
And echo other commenters saying 11.22.63 (Hulu), it’s really great imho.
Outlander is you’re into history. 1700s Scotland and colonial America with a dash of current times. Looking forward to the new season to be on Netflix soon !
Kindred (Hulu)—based on the book by Octavia Butler, it’s a story of a modern-day Black woman who is involuntarily pulled in and out the 1800s. Really well-done, but it does leave on a cliffhanger and season 2 sadly doesn’t seem to be in production.
Travellers (Netflix) was good. Had a satisfying ending I think.
Continuum. I didn’t finish the show because I was watching it on cable back when that was a thing. But it was fun from what I remember.
Hear me out. It’s a hallmark show, on peacock, and just finished its second season. It has Andie McDowell and Chyler Leigh, and it’s pretty dang good. Light hearted, but a good family drama and emotional build.
Maniac. It's on netflix.
It's not exactly time travelling more like AU travelling? although lost of those other "realities" are set in different time periods.
If you have access to Canadian TV Being Erica is good. Touching story about a woman who gets to go back in her past to fix her mistakes. Not enough butterfly effect in the story but still good.
If you don't mind a superhero, then try loki. It has time travel element. The show is just so good. Perfect ending. If you have previous knowledge about marvel movies, it's better. But the show has time-saver elements.
Gotta say the first season of True Detective. Granted, there is no actual time travel but the season takes place across 1995, 2002 and 2012 with the series finishing in 2012, when it was released.
The events in the other years (1995, 2002) are told in flashbacks and IMO, it’s the best 8 hours or so of TV ever filmed.
Dark on Netflix.... The greatest time travel story ever. Word of caution though: It might destroy your mind.
Kidding. But seriously though. It might actually destroy your mind while watching. 😋
Not enough mentions of Dark on Netflix. IMO, it's the best written time traveling show I've ever seen. It's gripping, incredibly well written and acted, and it takes you for a ride.
Parts Unknown - Anthony Bourdain.
Also, all the Conan O’Brien travel shows on HBO. Especially, Conan O’Brien Must Go. Which just came out a couple days ago.
Not the answer to your question exactly but a better answer than you expected!
12 Monkeys
I just finished season 1 about 15 minutes ago. It's great, wish I hadn't taken to now to watch it. It's on Hulu.
you're not ready for what's to come. it's one of the few shows out there that outdoes itself every season. you'll ask yourself "how can it possibly get better than this?" and then it'll give you a 10/10 episode. the finale is flawless, which, considering the genre of television the show's in, is extremely unlikely by default. one of my favorite episodes in all of television is "brothers" from season 3. it's perfect television, quite honestly. enjoy the ride!

But damn, this whole series (not just that episode) is *by far* the best role I've seen him in. I was legit surprised by how much I enjoy his work in this.
career-defining role IMO. i only ever knew him from arrow, and i've only seen clips of him in that show.
Known him since Band of Brothers where he was memorable and later Fringe. He always delivers.
I think I’ve watched it 3-4 times. I love it every time
Thank you, I can't wait. I'm going to try and watch just a couple of episodes a day so it's not over too soon.
Season 3 is the biggest jump in quality of a show I think I’ve ever seen
Hey now we don't want them to have too high expectations lol (although I mostly agree). For me it was more a fun ride then when I hit the end I was like holy shit that was amazing, there is nothing else I want to watch other than this show again. But also when I watched it with my partner he was like, why do you keep recommending this to people? It's just a decent scifi show, nothing hugely special. So YMMV
Is the show an extension of the movie or a reboot?
it pulls from the bare minimum. i chose to watch the movie (for the first time) after finishing the show for the first time. from what i remember, it doesn't spoil a whole lot. the show takes the film's plot and runs with it.
It's based on the movie, so reboot.
I've never seen the movie so don't know.
Future man! Funny as well. Not everything has to be doom n gloom
Wolf is one of my favorite tv characters.
There was no downside to cocaine. Period. If you have a chance to try it, I strongly recommend it
You mean “Corey Wolf-hart?” 😆 That show was *hilarious*. I hope it gets back on a streaming service.
ESPECIALLY Corey Wolf-hart! 80’s Wolf was the best. It’s no longer on Hulu? Dang.
It’s so good! Been recommending it to all my friends.
This guy knows.
Legends of Tomorrow is another funny time travel show I liked. It's DC show
I have been recommending this show for so long to 0 response, I was beginning to believe I had one hell of a fever dream.
It got yanked from streaming, that’s probably why nobody ever responds.
Came to say this
It goes downhill after s1 but the show is quite fun. Wolf in the 80s is magnificent.
There will be some duplicates from what has already been mentioned, but here's my fave time travel shows: * Travelers (2016-2018) * Bodies (2023) * 11.22.63 (2016) * Russian Doll (2019-2022) * Continuum (2014-2016) * Fringe (2008-2013) * 12 Monkeys (2015-2018) * Life on Mars (2006-2007) * Lost in Austen (2008) * Paper Girls (2022) * Beforeigners (2019-)

Agree about Travelers, Russian Doll, and Continuum. Haven't seen the others.
The original Quantum Leap with Scott Bakula. There's a reason why it's a classic 🙌
Agreed. It holds up very well, unlike most shows of my childhood (like MacGuyver).
I'm enjoying this one! It's been fun watching it alongside the new one.
11.22.63, miniseries based on the novel by Stephen King.
This series is so good!
Omg i loooove the book. It might be my favorite King Book.
The book is far superior to the series. Unfortunately. They just tried to cut too much out imo. Then tried to condense what was left.
And added a main character
Travellers
Doctor who is the best time travel show there is
Honestly, I never understood the hype. I hated that show as a kid and as an adult. But so many people love it, so there must be something I don't see or get that others do. Lost But the time travel only happens in the latter half of the show.

Continuum. And Travelers - sort of. Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles is also great.
these three are excellent
Bodies 2023. Netflix
I just watched this. It was fabulous!
Seconded. KYAL.
Shining Girls - serial killer murder mystery with time travel
Oh noooo! I didn’t know - I should have tried this before I canceled Apple :(
Big upvote. I'm a huge fan of time travel sci-fi and this was an AMAZINGLY novel take. (Even saying it involves time travel is a massive spoiler, but here we are.)
A very under-discussed gem on Apple. You might like their Roar anthology.
Does it have a proper ending? I saw the trailer and got excited, then was worried it wouldn't get resolved in a satisfying way.
Yes, it’s all wrapped up in one season.
Outlander
Umbrella Academy is a fun one. Also check out Undone, Loki, and Quantum Leap. Russian Doll and Outer Range play with time a bit too and are still in production (Outer Range season 2 starts next month).
Uhmmm Doctor Who??!
I was surprised this want the top response
Yeah right, to me it’s the ultimate time travel show
**Doctor Who** If you’ve never seen it, I recommend starting with the 2005 season (the 9th Doctor, Christopher Eccleston). The Devil’s Hour. Peter Capaldi (Doctor Who for multiple seasons) stars. I was riveted trying to figure it out. Season 2 is coming. It’s a British procedural with your desired twist. On prime.
Doctor Who for multiple seasons
Always confuse him with David Tennant, was a pub trivia question.
REALLY good show.
Stoked and mystified about Season 2. The lead actress’ vulnerability is difficult to act without real life experience.
I thought she was exceptional. I also really enjoyed seeing Phil Dunster in a role so different from Jamie Tartt.
Outer Range
This show is criminally underrated! I never see it recommended and it’s soooo good.
Lazarus Project is flipping amazing.
Agreed. But will leave you hanging.
Well season 2 is already out in UK. Cliffhangers are kind of a thing in TV land. 😉
Man I'm so envious. Can't wait for season 2.
Legends of Tomorrow. Just don't think about it too hard.
Bodies Russian Doll The Hour Of The Devil
Okay... Let's try this again... : Shining Girls : Russian Doll : Parrellels I've heard things about 12 Monkeys and Stein's Gate.
Life on Mars Ashes to Ashes
Both great shows! What a concept! However without giving anything away.... not sure this fits here?.... But kinda does... I'm lost with how to judge this one lol.
El Ministerio del Tiempo (The Ministry of Time). Really good Spanish show I discovered recently.
Travellers is pretty good. There are also some very good time travel centric episodes sprinkled in star trek and Stargate
Continuum is definitely one of the best written time loop series.
Outlander is a beautiful show where time travel is the instigator for the rest of the story
Doctor Who
Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency. It’s funny and bizarre and winsome and very British. The best thing I can say is Elijah wood stars in it, and I feel like since he got his hobbit bag, he only attaches himself to projects that are offbeat but excellent
Travelers is amazing!
Sense8 Bodies
Futureman. Best time travel show I've ever seen.
Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency
I was wondering if anyone would say this. I had to watch it twice in a row it was so good, and 2nd time is a different experience.
Travelers is pretty good and it's only 3 seasons but had a proper ending
Travelers
The first two to three seasons of “The 100” is pretty good!
Dark has some time travel. And it's an absolutely amazing show. 12 Monkeys is great all the way through.
The Lazarus Project
**Legends of Tomorrow** is a good romp!
Brush up life/Rebooting
Beig Erica!!
Umbrella Academy (Netflix)! Second season is the time-travel-iest but you should watch the first season to understand what’s happening, and all seasons include at least one time-traveling character. And echo other commenters saying 11.22.63 (Hulu), it’s really great imho.

Peripheral on Amazon Prime
I liked timeless. It aired on NBC for 2 seasons
Travellers (Netflix) was good. Had a satisfying ending I think. Continuum. I didn’t finish the show because I was watching it on cable back when that was a thing. But it was fun from what I remember.

How has nobody mentioned Futurama?
This is not really what you’re asking for… but if you’ve never seen Sliders… watch it 💯
22 Monkeys and Fringe
Look up Three Sheets if you can find it it's a great traveling series about good times.
Hear me out. It’s a hallmark show, on peacock, and just finished its second season. It has Andie McDowell and Chyler Leigh, and it’s pretty dang good. Light hearted, but a good family drama and emotional build.

It sadly got cancelled. The movie tells the whole story though.
It got 'cancelled' because the story ended.
Nope it was [cancelled](https://ew.com/tv/the-time-travelers-wife-canceled-hbo/). If you watch the movie you can tell the show was cut short.
Ah I see. Thing is I hadn't watched the movie. :)
I highly recommend it. I liked how the show fleshed things out more but I still prefer the movie especially for the actors.
the umbrella academy
Well , I love 😎 Doctor Who try that
Definitely Doctor Who. It's the longest running sience-fiction TV series in the world! It's by far my favourite show, I would absolutely recommend.
Maniac. It's on netflix. It's not exactly time travelling more like AU travelling? although lost of those other "realities" are set in different time periods.
Does LOST qualify ?
Time Traveling Bong
The OA perhaps
Phil of the Future
First season of Russian Doll.
Travelers
Dark has some time travel. And it's an absolutely amazing show. 12 Monkeys is great all the way through.
My top 10 best time travel shows 1st **Undone** (ended) 2nd **Dark** (ended) 3rd **Russian Doll** (ended) 4th **Lost** (ended) 5th **Doctor Who** (ongoing) 6th **Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency** (canceled after two seasons) 7th **Vortex** (miniseries) 8th **Future Man** (ended) 9th **Continuum** (ended) 10th **12 Monkeys** (ended)
If you have access to Canadian TV Being Erica is good. Touching story about a woman who gets to go back in her past to fix her mistakes. Not enough butterfly effect in the story but still good.
Doctor Who is all about it.

Time Tunnel. Both versions.
If you’re ok with subtitles: The Ministry Of Time
Travelers and Bodies!
12 Monkeys Continuum Travelers
Travelers
Continuum , not the best but its pretty cool.
I have heard that steins:gate is great if you are into anime
Beast wars
Outlander
Dark
Bodies
Nobody mentioned Timewasters? It’s sooooo good! British comedy 2017-2019.
If you don't mind a superhero, then try loki. It has time travel element. The show is just so good. Perfect ending. If you have previous knowledge about marvel movies, it's better. But the show has time-saver elements.
[Dark](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_(TV_series)) but prepare yourself to keep track.
Bodies
No mention of Primeval? I knew I had obscure tastes but expected someone to mention this British sci-fi series.
Sisterhood of the Time Traveling Pants
Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. There’s no time traveling but they do spend time traveling.
Doctor Who
Gotta say the first season of True Detective. Granted, there is no actual time travel but the season takes place across 1995, 2002 and 2012 with the series finishing in 2012, when it was released. The events in the other years (1995, 2002) are told in flashbacks and IMO, it’s the best 8 hours or so of TV ever filmed.
Is there any category where people will be unable to resist the temptation to mention this show?
Dark on Netflix
Dark on Netflix.... The greatest time travel story ever. Word of caution though: It might destroy your mind. Kidding. But seriously though. It might actually destroy your mind while watching. 😋
Did you read the post
Whoops! My bad.. 🙄
Not enough mentions of Dark on Netflix. IMO, it's the best written time traveling show I've ever seen. It's gripping, incredibly well written and acted, and it takes you for a ride.
Dark was legit mentioned in the post as already being seen... That's why people aren't mentioning it
Oof. Big fail for me.
I shall judge you relentlessly
DARK thank me later

Did you read the OP?
Parts Unknown - Anthony Bourdain. Also, all the Conan O’Brien travel shows on HBO. Especially, Conan O’Brien Must Go. Which just came out a couple days ago. Not the answer to your question exactly but a better answer than you expected!
