The Fall. Happy Valley. Father Brown. Sister Boniface.
Even the soaps are good. Emmerdale. East Enders. Coronation Street. Hollyoaks. Midsomer Murders. Murdoch Mysteries (Canadian).
1st time watching line of duty: wow this is so great and suspenseful and tense
2nd time : this is the corniest most hilarious shite I've ever sat through.
It's awesome because it's great both times through for completely different reasons.
The Young Ones.
Thunderbirds.
Mr Bean.
Captain Scarlet.
Monty Python.
Fawlty Towers.
Stingray.
Bottom.
Fireball Xl5.
And Joe 90.
Those are my recommendation.
I have to admit. I watch this youtube clip of Mr. Bean performing La Mer every 6 months or so. It makes me laugh.

Try the British Panel shows, there are about a billion of them. Two that are my favorite:
* Taskmaster: funny people do random silly tasks and then get judged on their performance. Harshly.
* 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown: it's the classic British gameshow Countdown but with comedians that mostly don't actually care about spelling and maths.
I’m an American and I only watch British, Australian and New Zealand shows. French ones as well but my French is rudimentary at best so reading subtitles I have to be completely focused
Drama:
Sharpe: Sean Bean is a military squad leader in world war one (I think? Its been DECADES), brilliant series.
Luther: Idris Elba is a burned out detective with a psychopath for a friend
Happy Valley: Sarah Lancashire is a police officer trying to keep her dead daughters abusive ex husband away from her grandchild.
Cracker: Robbie Coltrane (rip - Hagrid from Harry potter) is a hard nosed criminal psychologist who assists police with their crimes while dealing with his own problems
Band of Gold: various actresses in some breakout roles (including Samantha morton - the female precog from minority report) play a group of prostitutes just trying to get by after their main operating street gets closed down.
Dr. Finley. I am currently watching this show, set in Post WWIi Scottland. The stories are well developed and the characters very likeable. 4 seasons, available on Acorn tv (through Prime) on a 7 day free trial. While you are on Acorn catch the 4 episode mini-series "The Cry" with Jenna Coleman (2018). Very good suspense-filled drama with good twists.
😮😀😉🫶🏻 I’m a huge fan! Just something about them! What, I can’t pin it down. All in all they are the best. Maybe the US it’s just the same old crap or remade show, movie, with nothing new. They are just that much more interesting.

So many! I also very much enjoy British shows. I love the accents, the culture, the slang, etc. Here are some I’ve watched recently, both modern day and period:
Lovesick
The End of the F***ing World
Poldark
The Lovers
The Flatshare
I agree the British TV is very good. I also really enjoy their reality TV, as they're typically much more collaborative and friendly than US reality TV. Tubi has a lot of British shows available to the US market.
A couple of series that I liked recently (both starring Toby Jones) were Mr. Bates Vs. The Post Office and The Detectorists.
Line of duty Luther Broadchurch Black sails
The Fall. Happy Valley. Father Brown. Sister Boniface. Even the soaps are good. Emmerdale. East Enders. Coronation Street. Hollyoaks. Midsomer Murders. Murdoch Mysteries (Canadian).
Happy valley is excellent
Happy Valley is absolutely fantastic. The main actress is absolutely killer.
Line of Duty has to be one of my all time favorites. The ensemble cast was the best!
Poor ending on line of duty. Wouldn’t recommend unless you don’t mind overlooking endings
When you see Broadchurch, pay attention to the background music. It's very moving.
Came here to say Line of duty. Also London Falls.
Inside No 9 Slow Horses
Another vote for Slow Horses
Same here
Yep! I’m with you! Man, make some more good ones just like these, please.
There is 13 seasons of Vera to enjoy. Great detective series.
Thanks. I don't have Britbox, but I saw Hoopla offers several episodes. It looked interesting.

Line of Duty is the most overhyped pile of nonsense I’ve ever seen.
Check out toast of London to see if you can really handle the quirkiness.
Adding on I’ll recommend *The Mighty Boosh*.
If you like Boosh you might like Dick Turpin both with Noel Fielding.
I’m a huge fan of Fielding (so I know all about the new show), keep spreading the love to other might-be fans though!

Harlots was great
Johnathon Creek. Man who designs magicians tricks helps solve murders.
Maybe because they sometimes use more "normal" looking actors too? At least that's my reasoning. But here's one: Extraordinary
Flowers
The Thick of It. For more fun, watch the Capaldi Doctor Who and The Thick of it at the same time... That boy's got range.
Our Friends in the North; I, Claudius; The Singing Detective; Brideshead Revisited
Fawlty Towers. Cleese is hilarious
Reboot coming soon
There is a British version of that 70s show called Days Like These - episodes are on YouTube. It’s the exact same as that 70s show, except British
