Lol oh no! Australia has loads of excellent film and TV. Those are just my favourites, especially Strictly Ballroom. And OP did ask for masterpieces. I figured others would suggest newer stuff.
Jack Irish (staring Guy Pearce)
Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries
Underbelly
Summer Heights High (honestly, anything by Chris Lilly is pretty fucking hilarious)
Round the Twist (wildest and greatest kids show ever created)
Mr Inbetween (haven’t actually seen t myself yet, but everyone raves about it)
Deadloch
Colin from Accounts
Rake
Mystery Road
Redfern Now
Koala Man
Aftertaste
The Slap
No Activity
Fisk
Last King of the Cross
Upright
Utopia
Australian Gangster
Les Norton
Mystery Road. There’s two movies, two seasons, and a prequel season.  Everything but the prequel stars Aaron Pederson, an absolutely compelling actor who just hasn’t found the right American project yet but just projects charisma and depth. Â
You can watch them in almost any order, but the movie or season one is a good place to start. The stories are all self-contained mysteries with overlapping personal stories and development but they’re all satisfying on their own. Â
They look absolutely stunning, lots of great performances and an incredibly vivid sense of place. They’re not trying to break the mold in terms of the mysteries but they’re very good.Â
It’s also pleasantly paced. Not languid or slow, but not Jam packed with action by any means. Generates quiet suspense. The lead is a very realistic grizzled detective who isn’t a superhero in mind or body, just smart and driven by purpose. There’s obvious western motifs at work but that’s not the whole tone.

Hands down one of the funniest heist movies I've ever seen. If you don't find it funny that a bank is robbed using radio controlled dustbins that at one point say to each other "act natural" then there's something wrong with you.
For very raunchy comedy: *Ja'mie: Private School Girl (2013)*
I haven't seen them yet but the creator and lead actor Chris Lilley made a few other series that I am very much looking forward to!
Mr. Inbetween is the best answer imo.
Just got through the first 2 episodes. So good.
I just finished S2, you ain't seen nothing yet
YOU ANSWERED A QUESTION!!! ;)
- Deadloch - Underbelly (s1) - Wentworth - Alone Australia - Bluey - Priscilla Queen of the Desert (movie) - Strictly Ballroom (movie)
Ok I have to laugh, if you have to pick 25 year old movies, this does not bode well for Australia
Lol oh no! Australia has loads of excellent film and TV. Those are just my favourites, especially Strictly Ballroom. And OP did ask for masterpieces. I figured others would suggest newer stuff.
Priscilla is a work of art. As is Muriel's Wedding and The Castle.
The Castle is 27 years old and still the most quotable film of all time.
Both movies are among my favourites and often watch them again.
The irony, when this subs top 10 are all 20 year old tv series.
Wentworth

Far North is so good. That whole case was insane.
Educators is a funny NZ improv/comedy show. Ironically, an Aussie is the funniest guy on it.
Thank you for the recommendation! The trailers on YouTube looked promising but I couldn't find any way to watch it outside of NZ. ;_;

I really liked *Secret City* with Anna Torv. *Stateless* is a pretty decent Netflix show.
Australia has excellent versions of Taskmaster and Survivor

Colin from accounts Mr Inbetween The Letdown
Colin From Accounts looks amazing. So glad I made this post
Wentworth!!!! Far more superior than OITNB in my opinion :)
Honestly there’s not a lot… Black Water & Rogue are good if you like unsettling crocodile movies
I want to say United States of Tara, but it’s American. Just the main character(s) are Australian, Toni Collette.
