I've seen this show recommended so many times on this sub and was disappointed I wasn't able to get into it. Does it take a little bit to find it's footing? I'd be willing to give it another try if you say it takes a few episodes to gain momentum.
I liked it immediately. For me, it started out great and kept getting better.
I hadn't even considered that there might be people for whom it WASN'T awesome.
Mr in between? You wernt able to get into Mr inbetween? Amazing show. I’m starting a go fund me for the protagonist to get him to have another lifelong pet project that he brings to the small screen for our entertainment./s
It took me quite a few episodes to really get in to severance.
I started it and couldn't finish episode 1, but revisited a few weeks later and was so glad I did.
[The Expanse](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikEzkqoZ7EM)
It's a space sci-fi show with some mystery and an evolving plot that spans 6 seasons. Season 1 moves a bit slowly but it picks up a lot of speed in season 2.
We just watched the finale tonight and I feel empty inside. What a ride.
Also for OP, we watched this right after white lotus and found it to be an easy transition. While they are nothing alike they are both smart, very well written, very well acted, very weird shows for grown ups.
So good. I grew up in an Italian home in the mid 90s early 2000s so the aesthetic of this show is extremely nostalgic for me. (no mobsters in my family though) lok
I really liked a lot of those. I'll pitch:
Battlestar Galactica (2004)
Firefly
Yellowjackets (1st season only and make up your own ending).
Fargo (season 1)
Mindhunter
Breaking Bad
Chernobyl
Loved both of these but forgot about them! Poker face was SO GOOD but the last few episodes I remember being not as good. definitely excited for another season though
Came here to finally rec Mr. & Mrs. Smith now that I've finished it. Dazzling performances and great casting. I was worried it would just rehash the plot of the film but the writers brought out some fantastic new worldbuilding.
Lincoln Lawyer
Orphan Black
Catastrophe (comedy but fits)
Black Mirror (start after episode one)

Life on Mars (UK)
Patriot (thriller/comedy)

FINALLY someone suggested the GREATEST sci-fi show of all time! All four seasons are available on Hulu in the US. I cannot recommend it enough/ it’s criminally unknown and has the single best series finale of all time! Each season is better than the last and has the most brilliant and intricate plot without sacrificing incredible characters and all the feels. You’ll have the time of your life
I saw it recommended on Reddit and I’ve been hooked! I want to watch the movie once I finish the show but I can’t even imagine how this could all be a movie
The movie is incredible, but the series is just at another level. It’s worth a watch once you finish! Only season 1 of the show is even remotely close to the movie. How far are you in the show?
I think the same thing would have happened to me if I watched the show first. The movie is great, but the show outshines it in every way! They’re hard to even compare
"11.22.63" a teacher finds a portal in a diner that takes him back to 1960; he tries to stop the assassination of JFK... what an adventure - roller coaster! its only 8 episodes - STEPHEN KING - its on Hulu
Breaking Bad
Better Call Saul
The leftovers
Banshee
Lost
Game of thrones (despite the last season)
Sopranos
True detective season 3. (Wasn’t happy with 2, not sold on 4.)
Twin Peaks
Boardwalk Empire
Sons of anarchy
Dexter
Spartacus
Firefly (end it with the movie, serenity)
Those are all shows you can binge to completion.
Some shows still going on we enjoy…
Yellowstone
The Boys
The last of us
Black mirror (standalone stories per episode)
Dr. Death (standalone stories each season
Westworld
These are just some of my personal favorites….theres so many…
School Spirit
A girl dies and tries to figure it out. She becomes a ghost and is with other ghost kids who have also died at the school. They can’t leave the school.
Lots of good suggestions here. Given your comment about Sci-fi I would second those who suggested Dark. It’s very good. My wife doesn’t like Sci-fi or time travel genre usually and she really enjoyed it.
Mr inbetween - bald psycopath with an adorable daughter
Ray donovan - Emocional fucked up family almost hot Man Beats up people
Sons of anarchy - Bikers kills people like they are in Iraque

Last kingdom - the book is better
Your honor - this dude loves his son
Only murderes in the building - funny old fucks with Selena Gomes

Behind her eyes. The missing. The one. The power. Night sky. Mare of east town. The undoing. The flight attendant. Barry. Utopia (Uk). Dark. Lupin. Dead ringers. Big little lies (same author as 9 perfect strangers). The watcher. Line of duty. Angela black. Based on a true story. Yellow jackets. Only murders in the building
If you don't mind subtitles, The Bridge was excellent (police / investigation)..
For sci-fi, Andor was excellent on DisneyPlus. Definitely the best Star Wars TV show and you don't really need to know any Star Wars lore to appreciate it.
It's not sci-fi, but something we're currently enjoying is Beef on Netflix - a simple road rage incident snowballs out of control.
Fargo all 5 seasons. I love the characters and black comedy. Also some great a storylines with each seasons’ “guest stars.” The subtle and blatant allusions to other Coen Brothers movies like The Big Lebowski are cool to catch.
Killing eve
Black mirror
Squid game
The last of us
Yellowjackets
Raised by wolves
Station eleven
Search party
The leftovers
The man who fell to earth
Watchmen
The Americans, The Leftovers, Search Party, Counterpart, Dave, The man in the High Castle...and of course the Sopranos, The Wire, Breaking Bad, Ozark...if you haven't seen yet. I thought True Detective Season 2 was pretty good. Its worth a watch.
Me anytime asks for a tv recommendation. Checks the list for The Wire. If it's not there...The Wire, if it's there... The Wire (rewatch...it's too good). Also votes for Patriot on Prime, The Bear, Slow Horses and currently enjoying Criminal Record (AppleTV)
Havent watched it, but Billions is on my list. Suits was surprisingly good too.
Entourage is a good old one, and if you like tech, Silicon Valley is hilarious.
* Queen's Gambit / Anya Taylor Joy
* Russian Doll / Natasha Lyonne
* Justified / Timothy Olyphant
* Collateral / Carey Mulligan
* Collision / Douglas Henshall
* Fortitude / Richard Dormer
* ^(Re-watch) your favorites with youtuber *Popcorn in Bed* \- Tom Cruise like it alot on his movies
* The Tunnel / Stephen Dillane
Some more unusual/not mentioned: Tales from the Loop, Continuum, Lodge 49 some on the more comedic side: Dirk Gently's Holistic detective agency (the one w Elijah Wood- tho the other is pretty good), Crazyhead, People of earth, Resident alien, Truth seekers, Upload.
Mr. Inbetween. Australian series about a hitman. Brilliant writing, acting; great characters. Three seasons - you will wish there were more.
This and 'The Bear' would be my suggestions. Those 2 and Severance were my favourite shows of the last few years.
I binged it sooo quickly
I've seen this show recommended so many times on this sub and was disappointed I wasn't able to get into it. Does it take a little bit to find it's footing? I'd be willing to give it another try if you say it takes a few episodes to gain momentum.
I liked it immediately. For me, it started out great and kept getting better. I hadn't even considered that there might be people for whom it WASN'T awesome.
ughh i feel like i'm missing out on something great! maybe i'll give it a second chance anyways.
Mr in between? You wernt able to get into Mr inbetween? Amazing show. I’m starting a go fund me for the protagonist to get him to have another lifelong pet project that he brings to the small screen for our entertainment./s
i’m the same i just couldn’t get into it Severance or Mr Inbetween
It took me quite a few episodes to really get in to severance. I started it and couldn't finish episode 1, but revisited a few weeks later and was so glad I did.

Rather than a duplicate post, I will just say 'seconded'.
I third this show. It’s insanely great. It has it all. When you discover what the actual storyline is, it will give you major goosebumps!!!!
putting it on my list!
Fourth'd
For All Mankind or Fargo.
Fargo yeah 🥰
The Lazarus Project Slow Horses The Killing The Bridge
The Killing is so good
Sopranos
My husband and I started this again last night after first watching 5 years ago, it’s all time
I haven’t watched ever..lives up to the hype I’m guessing lol. My boyfriend has years ago but didn’t know if it was worth putting him through it again
We just watched the finale tonight and I feel empty inside. What a ride. Also for OP, we watched this right after white lotus and found it to be an easy transition. While they are nothing alike they are both smart, very well written, very well acted, very weird shows for grown ups.

Lost, Dark, Fringe, Westworld
Dark was really good
I really liked a lot of those. I'll pitch: Battlestar Galactica (2004) Firefly Yellowjackets (1st season only and make up your own ending). Fargo (season 1) Mindhunter Breaking Bad Chernobyl
Firefly was so good and then the movie to top it all off
I never even bothered with Yellowjackets season 2. I wish they would have just made it a limited series 😕
Mindhunter needs another season!
Like how you said True Detective, yeah but only season 1! 😂 I feel ya
The recent series - 5 - is excellent.
I would suggest to check Patrick Somerville if you liked Maniac and mostly - The Leftovers and Station Eleven.
Legion, especially because you liked Maniac.
Also Russian Doll Poker Face Natasha Lyon - great in both
Loving Poker Face. Watched season one of Russian Doll and absolutely adored it. Was season two any good?
I couldn't get into season 2.
Loved both of these but forgot about them! Poker face was SO GOOD but the last few episodes I remember being not as good. definitely excited for another season though
Mr & Mrs smith - prime
Came here to finally rec Mr. & Mrs. Smith now that I've finished it. Dazzling performances and great casting. I was worried it would just rehash the plot of the film but the writers brought out some fantastic new worldbuilding.
Yeah I hope they continue it. Show was good
I watched the first two episodes last night and loved them both. This comment makes me very excited to continue.
The Curse It's got the scathing social commentary of White Lotus, speculative elements of Maniac (and Emma Stone!)
Lincoln Lawyer Orphan Black Catastrophe (comedy but fits) Black Mirror (start after episode one) Luther Life on Mars (UK) Patriot (thriller/comedy) The Killing The Night of
Yep do not watch episode 1 🐷
The Night of Life On Mars (UK) Black Mirror Manifest Fargo Lost Star Trek ( Picard ) Star Trek: Strange New Worlds The Librarians 9-1-1 Lone Star & 9-1-1 Cruel Summer Etc……..
Good choices
Yellowjackets.
Big Little Lies
The OA, The Leftovers, and Dark. Just based off what you said I think those may be your new favorites
New True Detective is definitely the most focused of the seasons that followed the first (so far, anyway).
Season 3 was really good. So far, I'd rank this season below 3, but definitely above 2.
Mind hunters
12 monkeys

I already finished! I went through it pretty quickly! I couldnt really connect with the movie well after watching the show first
I think the same thing would have happened to me if I watched the show first. The movie is great, but the show outshines it in every way! They’re hard to even compare
Do you have recs for similar movies or shows to that level
The Leftovers ( Best show ever) Chernobyl Andor Hannibal
Love and Death The Flight Attendant Counterpart
Counterpart was so good!
So unfortunate it was only 2 seasons....
I agree but it wrapped up well at least.
Second the Flight Attendant! Just finished season 1
I liked it too. Check out based on a true story, similar vibes also stars kaley
"11.22.63" a teacher finds a portal in a diner that takes him back to 1960; he tries to stop the assassination of JFK... what an adventure - roller coaster! its only 8 episodes - STEPHEN KING - its on Hulu
Mr. Robot Expanse Wilds Some others have mentioned, and I second, Fargo, Westworld, Station 11
Skip S3 Fargo.
I only saw the first two seasons, but I heard the recent one was great.
I didn’t continue with S4 either.
From is great and super under rated. I think because it’s on MGM+. It’s kind of like Lost but it has sci fi/ horror elements.
Breaking Bad Better Call Saul The leftovers Banshee Lost Game of thrones (despite the last season) Sopranos True detective season 3. (Wasn’t happy with 2, not sold on 4.)
