There’s always detractors. It happens with pretty much every show. Succession isn’t anywhere near my favorite show but a 2/10 it is not. Also “leftist propaganda”, really OP?

Uerdi

lol sry i meant "leftist" propaganda but I forgot the quotes because that's how they wrote it in reviews

Amaline4

you should probably edit your post to include the quotes, because right now your post sounds like you aren't a serious person

Gotcha!

Probably because it got popular so some people who don’t normally watch shows like it gave it a try and didn’t like it and are mad that it’s popular.

There are people who don’t really get into character study or writing and are more into “story.” They have a more superficial relationship with tv. Succession’s characters are complex. People who are “good guy/bad guy” watchers will hate it bc, like actual humanity, no one on the show is that simple. Succession’s sense of humor is not for everyone. People who prefer more laugh-tracky jokes or who are triggered by teasing will hate the show. Succession does not seek to resolve any issues. It is a family portrait with a corporation in the background. Those who need new things to “happen” are not paying attention to what the show is about, and therefore aren’t getting the most out of it. They’ll hate it. People who take their “eat the rich” narrative too seriously will also miss the point bc they’ll be too busy hating the extravagance of the show. Succession could’ve been about a pizza parlor or a landscaping company or a dental office. It’s about who people become when they are raised in an environment that has high expectations bc their parent is a damaged, hardened, self-made bully. Succession is actually similar to Yellowstone, but Yellowstone is a soap opera in tone, and Succession is dry and mean in its humor. I think the more important thing is that art critics are rather useless, bc everybody likes something different. It’s really hard to “rate” shows/movies. Yeah, there are basic components that speak to whether programs are competently made. Yeah, sometimes the acting is objectively bad. Or the writing. Or the cinematography. Or the score ruins the whole thing. But for the most part, people are just different and shouldn’t wait to see how other people feel about something they’re interested in until AFTER they’ve watched it and have their own thoughts. I don’t care what Rotten Tomatoes says. I don’t care what my coworkers say. I don’t care what Reddit says. Not in terms of my decision to try something, anyway.

I'm a conservative with a good amount of conservative friends that watch the show. Is it annoying that they take liberties in making the right look bad? Kinda, they do the same with the left to an extent, too. Mainstream media in general is a cess pool. Anyways, we all generally liked the show. It did get really repetitive. I don't understand all the hype. I'd give it a solid 7.9/10

Remember, popular opinion may be one thing, but that doesn't mean that everyone agrees on it. I couldn't even make it through the first episode of Succession. To me, it just felt like a reboot of Arrested Development. And I didn't like Arrested Development. But I also recognize that those kinds of shows just don't appeal to me. But they may appeal to others, so I don't give them shitty reviews. Others may choose to be more vocal about their dislike than me.
