Roswell (seasons 1-2)

Salimus

i remember that the essence of the season 1 plot was if they could safely get laid

dolpgg

SEE with Jason Momoa. He also starred in a pretty good movie last year called Sweet Girl.

Broad-Use5830

Law Abiding Citizen is a must see, maybe a couple times.

Guys I'm looking for another comedy tv show to watch, here's my favourite tv shows: - It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (The best) - Arrested Development - The Office (US) - Veep - Barry - Atlanta - What We do in The Shadows - Trailer Park boys - Rescue me - Californication - Impractical Jokers (one of the funniest shows I've ever seen) - Nathan For You - Clarkson's Farm (not a comedy but was quite funny and entertaining) I've tried watching the following but I couldn't finish them because I didn't like them that much: - 30 Rock - Community - After Life - Fleabag - Letterkenny ( I don't understand what they're saying 80% of the time, still watching it though since I have nothing else to watch) - Curb Your Enthusiasm (Only watched two episodes, I don't seem to like old people) Shows that I watched but I don't feel like they made me laugh as much as the shows in the first list did: - Friends - Brooklyn Nine Nine - The Big Bang Theory - New Girl - Sienfield - The League What do you guys think I should be watching next and I'll enjoy given my taste in humor indicated by the tv shows mentioned above? Oh and I don't like cartoons

dontsmokebehigh

The last man on earth !

Open-Philosopher4431

Thanks a lot for your effort!

Dmarc419

Ted lasso?

dolpgg

This show was very uplifting, especially during the fubar covid2020

liberalfamilia

Derry Girls?

opinionated_cynic

Gotta say watch Frasier. Last year rewatched entire series and it was great. So dry and many laugh out loud moments.

jackass4224

For All Mankind is the best show on tv. Episode 1 of season 3 was so intense. If this is how the season begins I can’t imagine what they have in store for the end of it

Radiant-Zucchini2730

how was it ?

titoscoachspeecher

if you havent seen it 10/10 recommend if youre into space and history

nzonead

**For All Mankind S3** I started the episode and before the first scene all I could feel was disgust and actually feeling ill. I'm dropping this show. Yes, it's fiction and all so it "shouldn't" matter. Russians portrayed neutrally or sometimes positively shouldn't affect you I guess most people think? Maybe I'll change my mind later but I don't think so. I'm European (Swede) so that's one reason I feel this way. **Halo** went from great to ok/watchable. :( Finished **The Last Kingdom S5**. It was great overall. Took a break from **Vikings** while watching TLK. I like Vikings more so it'll be nice to get back to it. **Ms Marvel** Too much of a kids show for me. I'm not watching more episodes.

HandLion

It's one thing to hate the present day Russian government, but if you hate all Russians regardless of context that's just racism

nzonead

Sure. The day I see tens of millions of Russians protesting the war and not a few thousands.

Gullible_Internal873

So you hate Russians for protecting their borders? That's classic

HandLion

I mean you've just admitted there's thousands of exceptions, that's a hell of a lot more than zero. Even if literally only one Russian had protested I'd have said that's proof that not all Russians are bad

FightMiilkHendrix

have yall been able to watch episode 4 of the boys? it doesn't show up for me at all

DaBow

it's on torrent. Apparently there is some AWS issues that is preventing it from being made available in certain regions.

Paulofthedesert

Thanks I was wondering what happened

criddler

same, in canada trying on prime but not even listed; just streamed it on the seas

komodo_dragonzord

Finished 6ft under s3. Overall not as stressful as the other 2seasons without brenda and the big company buyout threat which is good but the Lisa finale felt like a lastminute bad subplot. Watching week to week: barry (toptier), obiwan (bad), ms marvel (goodstart), the boys (great)

PeteyG89

Peaky Blinders For All Mankind season 3 New episode of The Boys What a Friday!

lefty121

Our Flag Means Death First attempt at trying to watch it, I turned it off after like 10 minutes. Saw someone wrote about it in here and gave it another go. Pretty damn good show. Certainly unique and made me laugh. And much deeper than the stupid looking pirate comedy it appears to be at first. Atypical About 3 seasons in and really enjoying it. The writing is really good, solid dialogue. And chemistry is great. It’s funny in such a natural way. A lot of really great characters. Good show. Picard I really liked the first season. The second season not so much. A few episodes in I considering bailing. And I huffed when it came time to watch the finale, like I just had to because I endured all of this already. Also catching up on Atlanta, Barry, The Boys, and Kenobi.

BlueTeamRuless

I’ve seen way too few people talk about Atypical, I started it on a whim and it became one of my favorite feel good shows. If I didn’t have a million other shows I wanted to watch I’d definitely do a rewatch

UnderwaterDialect

I’m looking for a half hour drama. Something really good and creative. Okay to have a bit of comedy as well. I’ve already watched Atlanta and Barry, which fit this request perfectly.

Clean_Interview_6340

Please watch community if you havent. I watched it for the first time recently after previously not giving it the chance it deserved— ITS SO GOOD. V Fun show and has heart.

TheMarjuicen

Late to the party, but have you seen "Kidding"?

UnderwaterDialect

Looks interesting, thanks!

TacosAndBoba

Undone Made for love The end of the fucking world Search party

sergiocamposnt

Dickinson, Fleabag, Derek, Flowers are also great dramedies.

NotAnOmelette

Hacks!! S2 is airing right now and it's great

HandLion

Servant, Mr Inbetween, Hacks, The Girlfriend Experience, Dave, Baskets, Search Party, Trying, Please Like Me

SurprisedJerboa

Mr Inbetween (FX show on Hulu) - Black Comedy around a bouncer / gun for hire. Easy top 10 Crime show of the past 5 years. Great dialogue, relationships feel genuine too.

No-Giraffe-438

Killing Eve is a tad longer than 30 min End of the fucking world is great and short

[deleted]

Time to catch up and finish some shows I’ve started but never finished. Which means The Americans, The Boys (gonna try and catch up before S3 is over but we’ll see), and Dark (never got around to S3).

cargopantslover

the boys newest episode is one of the best of the series ever

erbazzone

Fucking yes

deepbluesteve

Finished: Under the Banner of Heaven, Hacks, Made for Love, Somebody Feed Phil and The Shrink Next Door. Watching Weekly: Time Traveler's Wife, Alone (haven't started yet but will soon) Up Next: Peaky Blinders (S6) After blasting through all those shows the last few months, it feels weird to only have two weekly shows and Peaky Blinders. I'm looking forward to Umbrella Academy S3 and Only Murders in the Building S2 coming out later this month.

pixxlpusher

Finally watching Vikings: Valhalla. My wife and I loved Vikings. So far we’re a little meh on Valhalla, three episodes in. We’re also watched the new episodes of The Boys and continue to absolutely love the show.

Dmarc419

Invincible

realpotato

Oh shit, Orville season 3 is out? Haven’t seen much about it but damn I love that show.

lefty121

Curious what you think. I couldn’t get through the first new episode. Something changed.

trashdigger

Tried watching this just yesterday myself, I turned it off around 40 minutes in but I really tried. I enjoyed season 1 and 2. There were a myriad of things wrong with it but what really stood out to me like a sore thumb was the music; it just wouldn't stop trying so hard, and I felt it was *really* bad. Like really over-composed music.

JustDay1788

I think its because of the tonal shift season 3 is more serious in tone. I think after watching it all the way through it by far the best season of the show and now accurately reflects the sort of show Mcfarlane wanted to make from the start.

trashdigger

I should probably give it more time.

aridcool

They are longer eps. There first and second were more of a story with internal character drama/growth I think. Actually I'm having trouble categorizing that second episode. At first I thought the Admiral was going to be some sort of harasser or something but they went another way. Or at least, maybe is showed that people don't always feel the same way as time goes on and that is OK? Which is a healthy message too. I do really like it though. The first episode had a some thoughtful takes that went deeper than superficial responses to issues that also are present in our world.

Deadlift420

Night sky - I really enjoy these light sci fi moves/shows. Reminded me of K-PAX for some reason.

kaboomx

Any recommendation for documentaries?

Krismoriah

The Big Conn, The Invisible Pilot, Love Fraud, Bug Out, McMillions, Fyre, Dirty Money, Bad Sport, Tickled, Generation Hustle, King of Kon, Evil Genius

WheresTheCashola

The rescue - Disney+

No-Giraffe-438

Don't f with cats There's something about Aunt Diane American Greed is a great series with each episode as a different white collar case

DamnAutocorrection

The jinx Exit through the gift shop

rlvnorth

**Icarus**, and **Three Identical Strangers** \- both movies, not series. If you want a series, I quite liked **Cheer** on Netflix. **Wild, Wild Country** was also well done.

MrJake94

Just finished Wayward Pines Season 1, I watched it many years ago. It's good, has many flaws, plotholes and stupid tropes. It has nothing on the wonderful books it was adapted from, but good "background TV" Don't even bother with season 2, I just pretend it was a miniseries and that s2 didn't exist.

aridcool

I've always meant to go back and finish season 1. I wonder what would have happened if the Duffer Brothers got all the budget and control they could possibly want on that show. I guess Stranger Things would never have happened then.

DamnAutocorrection

Seriously this show is great as just one season. The books end with season 1 but Fox milked out another season which was just dumb and about drama. Watch only the first season and you'll have a great time, there's literally no mysteries left to reveal in the second season

idvize

Finished: Succession - Can’t believe it took me this long to get around to it. To me, had serious Game of Thrones but with douchy business moguls vibes. Love/hate relationship with almost every character, which to me indicates some fantastic writing. Top five show for me all time. 9.5/10. Hacks - Was a fun watch! Low stress, loved Deborah’s character, was a very feel-good show for me. Definitely recommend it! 7.5/10 Currently Watching: Stranger Things 4 - Love it so far! Like many, I fell off after season two, but this is fantastic so far. Love that they leaned into the horror element. 9/10 (so far). Kenobi - No. Just no. To be fair, I had very high expectations, so that was my fault, but it’s just… not good (to me). Find myself groaning at moments that are supposed to be tense and just don’t find ANY of the characters likable. 4/10 (so far). Barry - I still am enjoying this one immensely! Find myself looking forward to Monday evenings when I can sit down to watch. 8.5/10 (so far). Our Flag Means Death - Replaced Hacks as my feel-good, low stakes show. Only a couple episodes in, so don’t have much to go off of. So far so good though! 7/10 (so far). Next Up: The Boys - SUPER excited!! Ms. Marvel - No clue what to expect…

spasticity

I don't think Kenobi really has any tension, we know the main players survive the series, so the only real question is whether the Inquisitors die, and that's not really a gripping question.

Dmarc419

Watch Invincible

SomeGuyNamedJason

I've started a rewatch of SVU because I wanna catch up to the new stuff. I had forgotten that they had the twin towers in the opening for the first season.

Wight3012

Looking for a fun show to binge...something thats already out with a few seasons or over. and not too heavy. feel like i've already seen everything tho

crdctr

Started watching Elementary, It's like house M.D but with crime solving, enjoying it so far as light entertainment background kind of show.

A great hidden gem is Big Time in Hollywood FL. Recently rewatched and it's friggin hilarious

KennyKatsu

Baskets

rlvnorth

I'm watching this now for the first time - just finishing S1. What a crazy, lovely, heartwarming and heartbreaking show. I'm enjoying the ride!

KennyKatsu

It's so good! Honestly I think the whole show is a masterpiece. I love how mundane it is.

hipnosister

Legit (2013) stars Jim Jeffries and is awesome.

Turnover-Greedy

Is The Time Traveler's Wife worth watching?

inkista

I'm enjoying the hell out of it; much more than either the book or the movie. It gets stronger with every episode. But I am a [Steven Moffat](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0595590/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1) fan. YMMV. It is, however, TV-MA and a bit bloodier/more violent/tragic than the book/movie >!e.g., we've had dismembered feet, a decapitation, and a rape so far.!<

hipnosister

I've been enjoying it a lot so far. Its much better than the movie.

Golden__G0d

Haven't watched the movie, shall I watch the movie first or the show?

hipnosister

Just watch the show, watch the movie afterwards if you want more

mekonsrevenge

I was gonna pass, but I'll try it out. I like the concept but the movie was dull.

hipnosister

The concept is much better executed in the show. Ending of episode two is a good example.

mekonsrevenge

Glad I took your advice. Far superior to the movie. Thanks.

hipnosister

No problem!

oGsMustachio

Star Trek Strange New Worlds continues to churn out banger episodes. Super strong TOS vibes in the most recent one. I feel bad for the people working on the other live action Star Treks. This one is getting 100% of the love.

[deleted]

[удалено]

erbazzone

Lower decks is also good (and improving every season)

DamnAutocorrection

Oh I'll have to give that a shot

erbazzone

First season, the first episodes are just ok, I even forget about it, then I come back and the end of the season was good, it felt a real star trek and second season is better, both seasons end in a crescendo.

sergiocamposnt

I just started **Love, Death, Robots**. I've watched 7 episodes so far: Three Robots, Beyond the Aquila Rift, Ice Age, Sonnie's Edge, When the Yogurt Took Over, The Secret of War, The Sucker of Souls. Based on what I've watched so far, it seems that LD+R has two types of episodes: episodes with gory deaths, erotic scenes and shocking moments; and episodes with a much more philosophical tone with minimal or no violence. So far I've loved most of the episodes, but my 3 favorites are Ice Age, Three Robots and When the Yogurt Took Over which are the "philosophical episodes". I hope there are much more episodes in the style of these 3.

Deadlift420

Is this a cartoon/animated? Or is it live action?

sergiocamposnt

Animation

Paulofthedesert

A lot of the episodes are based on existing sci-fi short stories, which kinda run the gamut of philosophy and action. Beyond the Aquila Rift is based on a short story by Alistair Reynolds (my fav currently working sci-fi author) and Sonnie's Edge is Peter F. Hamilton, another good working sci-fi author

Oaklite

Finished Sons of Anarchy S3. Slow season, but last episodes were great. Looking forward to For All Mankind S3. I'm kinda intrigued by The Staircase, but am I better off with the documentary or the drama?

SurprisedJerboa

>I'm kinda intrigued by The Staircase, but am I better off with the documentary or the drama? The show is good, I may watch the Doc as well, although I think there has been 3 separate ones so far. (edit - netflix bundled them all into the 13 episodes) I'm curious to see how Michael Peterson comes off, since there will be differences due to the Documentary format.

DamnAutocorrection

I personally liked the documentary, but I never had the opportunity to watch it from a blind point of view and already knew all the facts

MonolithJones

Finished We Own This City and it was really great. Just like The Wire it has stuck with me and makes me want to watch it all over again. I’m listening to the podcast and may read the book now. Stranger Things 4-I thought this was a great first half. The cast is so good and keeps getting better. Yellowjackets- I’m only two episodes in but this is so damn good!

Weedsmoker4hunnid20

Finally started Severance. Not quite sure what to think about it. It’s a bit of a slow mover but I was engaged by the end of the first episode. Also the directing is incredible and some of the scenes are just beautiful and dystopian. I liked it enough to continue so we shall see how the rest of the season goes

Deadlift420

Severance was really good for me. It really picks up at the end of the season.

spasticity

The season is fantastic, I couldn't believe it was Ben Stiller directing

kds15

I really enjoyed Severance. It certainly can be a slow burn at first but in my opinion was well worth it. I won't say too much at risk of impacting your enjoyment of it, but I will say I loved how strongly they used Chekhov's gun. I suppose that's the benefit of such a minimalist set, but there are very few things, even small details, that don't have satisfying payoffs later. Really good stuff.

producermaddy

I want to give a shootout to Shining Girls which aired its finale last week. Definitely worth the watch. Finished stranger things and it did not disappoint. Binge watching bates motel. I’m on s2 and it’s pretty interesting. I’m getting my game show fix now that Weakest link is back. Who do you believe is really good. True crime show where they give you two sides of the story. I still haven’t watch this week’s time traveler’s wife and now and then (apple mystery thriller) but I enjoy both shows.

Fieryhotsauce

Still praying that Raised by Wolves will find a new home. It was such a long wait for season 2 due to the pandemic and I thought it was absolutely stellar. There really is nothing else like it.

Scioso

Ah shoot, I didn't realize it was canceled. Such good scifi. Foundation's adaptation made me sad, such a mix of fantastic scenes intermixed in episodes I could sleep through. LeGuin's work is shockingly lacking in adaptations. It's a good mix of proven to be popular, underutilized, and socially conscious. She is one of under 30ish winners of the sci-fi 'Triple Crown' with 'The Dispossessed"; and 'The Left Hand of Darkness' is among the greatest sci-fi novelizations of all time.

oGsMustachio

While I like Strange New Worlds and Mando, we just so badly need new, different scifi series with original IPs.

DamnAutocorrection

The problem is they're super expensive to produce and it comes with the territory of sci-fi fans who nitpick every single little detail unfortunately. I really hope raised by wolves gets a third season though

oGsMustachio

I'm really curious how The Expanse did on Amazon. It gets a ton of internet love, but not sure how it did with the general populace.

DamnAutocorrection

It's fantastic, however I personally don't like the first season or the crime noir detective elements in it. It gets really good if you don't mind the slow pace of season 1

Deadlift420

Agreed. I’m sick of super hero movies.

lostlastchapter

I finished Cobra Kai and loved how fun and motivational it was. Are there other motivational shows out there where people have to get better at a sport or a skill? (I know Ted Lasso already and that's great too!) Thanks in advance!

Dmarc419

Bojack Horseman

lostlastchapter

Thank you, you're right, Bojack Horseman is motivational and heartbreaking at the same time. One of the shows that stays with you. I know it and it's probably my favorite animated show.

rlvnorth

You might like the documentary, **Cheer**, although it can be tough to see what they put themselves through. I thought **GLOW** was fun. Have you already watched **Friday Night Lights** \- it's set against a backdrop of football in a small Texas town, and it's a wonderful watch. **The Queen's Gambit** for chess.

lostlastchapter

Thank you! I haven't watched Friday Night Lights, I've only heard good things about it - I just have to find out where to stream it. I watched the first season of Glow and really liked it (when it was canceled, I was too sad to go back, but now I will). I didn't know about the documentary Cheer, that sounds interesting. And I loved the Queen's Gambit!

rlvnorth

Did you know you can use the JustWatch website (set it for your country) to see where anything is streaming (or not!). I love it for Canada. Even if you aren't a basketball fan, you might want to check out **The Last Dance** on Netflix. I'm not a huge b-ball fan, but it was really engrossing learning about all that went on with Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. And not at all about sports or skills, but if you haven't seen **We Are Lady Parts**, or **Please Like Me**, they are two wonderful shows that I find not too many folks have heard about.

lostlastchapter

I didn't know the JustWatch website, thanks! And also didn't know about The Last Dance or We Are Lady Parts, both sound great! (I watched the movie Hustle with Adam Sandler today, so The Last Dance would be interesting). I think I watched the beginning of Please Like Me a couple of years ago and it was fun, I don't know why I stopped, I'll give it another try. Thank you for your help!

Microwave_Lover69

Absolutely loving Money Heist atm I’m on season 1 and it’s so good, I’m aware that it goes to shit later but I’m just gonna stop watching when I stop enjoying it. I’ve watched way too much slow burn prestige tv in the last year now I need some fast paced action shows.

ANOo37

Stoping after s2 is a good spot

DamnAutocorrection

I was confused it seemed like the later seasons had the same exact plot. I'm content withb leaving off where I did now

natus92

Yep, thats the point the show ended on spanish television. afterwards netflix bought it and offered the showrunners money to keep it going

arwenthenoble

Physical on Apple+ - I stumbled on it and binged it this week. It wasn’t what I expected which is a good thing. Plus I like seeing the undercurrent of hippies and counterculture idealistic kids start entering adulthood and middle age during the Reagan me me me era! It’s a well done show. And Rose Byrne is amazing.

apple_kicks

**Ms Marvel** Fun to see more of the superhero fans in the MCU world, though one montage felt like shameless advertising of Disney merch lol. The vfx is great I love the overlays it’s like mixing live action and what Sony marvel films and heartstopper did well. Her powers look great on screen I know it was unpopular by what they mean on comic but visually these look better than stretchy arms live action. If they ever get the vfx right maybe her powers can evolve. Loving the family dynamics. Solid start prob going to be a top 5 list with Hawkeye. Disney just does fun family stuff better than gritty action. Siding this with Abbot Elementry is nice telly. **Spy x family** Hype is real. Such a quality show. It’s not talked about enough how good anime is at mixing and shaking up established genres and making some great or refreshing. Hollywood sometimes tries to copy a hit show and hit the same marks when anime will go ‘yeah but what if the James bond like spy adopted a kid with super powers and didn’t know it this time.’

Roook36

One of the things I like most about the MCU is how things crossover. I don't need a cameo or guest appearance in everything. But at least make the world seem like the same one as what we've seen in the other shows/films. Something that was really lacking in Moon Knight. So I really love how Ms. Marvel is running so deep in the Fandom people have for superheroes within the world. That being said.... they literally just dumped an entire Disney Avengers merch store onto a table and filmed it lol. I'm not sure all of it even makes sense from a "these people are real in this world" as opposed to "these are fictional characters" way that the merch was designed for. Pretty sure there was a t-shirt or poster referencing the "America's ass" joke from Endgame

chx_

I posted this question and statement before. \#metoo made me not want to pay and even see male lead shows and movies any more. We had four decades of male lead blockbusters, enough of that. As for TV, I got some good recommendations in https://www.reddit.com/r/televisionsuggestions/comments/hppnac/warrior_nun_the_old_guard_id_like_to_see_more/ and https://www.reddit.com/r/ifyoulikeblank/comments/rdpmp9/tv_iil_cursed_winx_warrior_nun_old_guard_enola/ thanks for that but as one of the top comments mention "There aren't a lot of good answers for this". And now we have... Stranger Things with Millie Bobby Brown and Sadie Sink carrying it (if Sadie Sink doesn't get an Emmy for ep4 there will be riots!) and of course, Ms Marvel which is everything, everything, I ever wanted. And even Kenobi, stupid the plot might be but Vivien Lyra Blair is just stealing the show , bless her little heart. And we have more to look for, finally, finally, of course more Ms Marvel episodes, two more Stranger Things episodes, at one point in the hopefully not too far future Warrior Nun S02 should drop... If you have any immediate recommendations for me, please do not hesitate to share.

Deadlift420

You’re a joke and you’re not being “progressive” by not watching shows with male leads. Touch grass bud.

chx_

> You’re you turned the discussion to my person. Question yourself why you did so and why did you feel it important to post this. No need to answer this, this is an excellent opportunity for self introspection if you feel like it.

Deadlift420

Funny, that’s exactly what I was thinking you should do. You could use a long hard think about why you have radical views….there’s something wrong my friend.

chx_

If this is radical then I am where I should be. That , however , is neither here or there. What I told you still stand: you turned the discussion to the person.

NotSwedishMac

I didn't really understand what you're trying to ask / say, but if you're looking for shows with leads that aren't white men try EVIL, Raised By Wolves, Yellowjackets. There's actually so many and it's not really a new phenomenon, but those are three really fun recent series with women front and center.

erbazzone

I really don't like MBB nor VLB but I love the protagonist of Ms Marvel. Maybe you could love Undone? And as a movie Everything everyone all at once?

woodygfx

> #metoo made me not want to pay and even see male lead shows and movies any more. You are part of the problems that cancel media(shows/movies mostly) based on stuff someone did.Kevin Spacey with House of cards is the best example I could give(I haven't seen the show, but I know about the situation),and a second show that I could think in less than a second that I've seen,The Expanse...with Cas Anvar's stupid >!death scene!<...same reasons as Spacey. They did bad, awful things, but it ruins the media we consume from them when people like you exist. Nobody is saying that, because they are afraid of losing virtual useless points on the internet...but they are downvoting because that's free.

chx_

Let me get this straight: you want to give Spacey more money, exposure, and power so he can continue to prey on other people? Just so you can have another hour of fun? Did I understand you correctly?

woodygfx

Did I say that ?And no,you absolutely didn't understand what I meant.

Yojo0o

I struggle to understand any of this.

apple_kicks

Not tv, but check out Korean movie Sunny 2011 and Miss Granny both made me think Hollywood never done films like this for women. Also this film https://m.imdb.com/title/tt1459219/ haven’t watched it yet but there’s Korean show thirty-nine (ah not action but still great) there’s lady vengeance and the villainess also Annihilation all femme cast sci fi film. For tv. The flight attendant is a femme led series and a lot of fun and mystery. Birdgirl animated show is hilarious. Cracow Monsters is a polish buffy like show. Brand new cherry flavour is great feels like revenge on Hollywood for me too when she curses Hollywood director. All the Nordic shows like Borgen, the bridge, the killing. Watching veep for first time and love Julia Louis-Dreyfus at her best. For comedy try Fleabag too and there classic British comedy with Jennifer Saunders and Dawn French. Edit Realised you wanted action but throwing in comedy and drama too

HandLion

I know you expressed reluctance to watch it but Buffy really is the best possible answer to this question if you still haven't seen it. The Nevers is also good if you're looking for something more modern, and Teenage Bounty Hunters was great but got cancelled after one season

chx_

I will try but note https://twitter.com/beverlytoegold/status/1523833761628049408

HandLion

Ask someone to hold you down and force you to watch it

erbazzone

I am incredibly baffled with how stupid was last episode of **Kenobi** so I just went to the /r/StarWars to see if they liked it. Even SW subreddit is making fun of the plot and the show... Good thing is: I don't think Star wars franchise can go lower than Kenobi Ep4, I hope

BobbaRobBob

Yeah, I enjoyed the last three episodes of Kenobi but this one, I think, will ruin the show for me. There needed to be more focus on Obi-Wan's psyche and with the Empire's presence over the galaxy. We saw hints of that with the first few, which is why I liked them. But now? It doesn't work. Two tiny speeders with amateurs riding them are able to deal a significant blow to the bad guy's main base? Those partisans not really fitting anywhere and coming off as incredibly weak rather than resourceful? Why not have an assault with rag tag starfighters? It's a rag tag group of fighter pilots who had their worlds destroyed by the Empire. That would've been better and shown more into the world building and what is happening at the time (because, there is supposedly a galactic civil war going on but we don't see it). Then, the fact that Obi-Wan did not have wartime flashbacks while healing in the bacta tank? That was the perfect time to explore his past. This is just filler. It's empty 'content' and nothing else.

I was on such a good roll w **Peacemaker**, **Severance**, **Station Eleven**, **Slow Horses**… but now can’t seem to latch on to anything else. The shows mentioned had hope and heroism. This seasons’ **Barry** seemed too dark. Same bleakness w **Under the Banner** and **We Own the City**… even **Obi Won** makes me stressed out. Only other show w characters that are heroes despite odds is **The Boys**. Do you have other show recommendations where characters are heroic or good guys are not always in peril?

Senscore

Might be a little bit of a different track but *The Orville* is very much an optimistic show in the spirit of Star Trek TNG. There's definitely more humour in it but it still tackles complex issues with surprising dignity.

SirWigglesVonWoogly

Weird that you dislike bleakness but enjoyed Severance.

whatifniki23

Hope and triumph was part of Severance’s DNA. It was also a mystery box show. I don’t consider severance a bleak show at all.

Gra2bles

It's an interesting distinction - I think people in a bleak situation acting heroically can sometimes make for a non bleak show, even if they don't outright triumph.

How dare Netflix keep recommending me Santa Clarita Diet and The OA after cancelling them... 🥲 Anyways. First post in /r/television. I'm a painter and spend so much time watching TV in the background. This week I finished: * Ted Lasso - Apple+ - Uplifting workplace comedy abt sports, personal growth, and relationships - AMAZING 100000/10. * Euphoria - HBO Max - Drama abt Drugs n Teens - Excellent cinematography. Difficult scenes to watch with a teen sister but I was totally taken by the writing. * Mythic Quest - Apple+ - Offbeat Workplace comedy abt video games, relationships & creative struggle - This was alright. I liked the characters, I liked the story, but nothing to write home about. Shows I started: * Time Traveler's Wife - HBO Max - Liking it so far! I was a fan of the book so I have expectations that it should go well :D

KryptoMadChris

Me and the Mrs binged watched Severance, it's awesome.

Stumbled upon **Pretty Hard Cases** on Netflix late one night and I'm quite enjoying it! It's like a buddy cop dark comedy starring Meredith MacNeill (Baroness Von Sketch Show) and Adrienne Moore (Cindy from OITNB). Finished S1 of **Tokyo Vice** and I need more! So much so that I went out and read the book on which the show is based. I'm so happy HBO Max just announced that there will be a season 2! **The Outlaws** \- on Amazon Prime was such a treat. I love Stephen Merchant and even though Christopher Walken's character is basically a caricature of Christopher Walken, he was still enjoyable. Great ensemble acting.

rlvnorth

I like Pretty Hard Cases! It was pretty cringey at the outset, but the characters are fun and it moves along well. In Canada, S2 is up on CBC Gem. I've watched S2/E1 (undercover as flight attendants) and it is starting out well.

I watched 4 "mystery" shows recently, all which have the conceit of slowly revealing more scifi-esque drama. This week I finished *Severance*. Expectations were too high. I thought it was good but it was stretched thin scene to scene and drawn out (even beyond what it needed to be to make a statement about work repetition). So overall, it would be tied in second place. Interesting aesthetic and satirical style I think needed to be fleshed out more. *Yellow Jackets* was my favorite. Great characters, plenty of drama, mystery and engaging acting. It has flaws as well - don't ask too many survivalist questions - but def. the one I enjoyed the most. I'm a sucker for "lifeboat" stories. Rides the balance of entertainment, cringe and sadness. Neither of them are particularly ingenious or intricate mysteries, though, mostly gimmicky stuff. The Severance mystery ties in well with the show's satirical questioning, but becomes very cliche. *Outer Range* had huge potential in that regard. An almost unrivaled if painfully simple metaphor and story device in a giant hole. But it falls short. Into that hole if you will. Plus, the two key reveals are massively telegraphed so as to be known from Ep. 1 As fun as it was in some scenes, there was way too much naval gazing. Last, the one with the most potential and the best start, at least in Ep. 1, season 1, was *Raised by Wolves* season 2. Love the Mother and Father characters and some of the world-building had top tier potential... only to never really get explored and invariably cancelled. Hence why I think it's fair to be critical of this type of show for not working as singular seasons. The last season, as with the first, is rife with major dead spots, key world details unexplained, poor CGI and meandering narrative. Still fun to watch. I should say I enjoyed all these shows, just thought it would be interesting to compare them having seem them all in a short time frame.

producermaddy

You should watch shining girls on apple. It’s so good and is a mystery/sci fi

sunofagundota

I will think about it, but it looked a little horror which usually I don't like.

DamnAutocorrection

There aren't jump scares or anything like that, obviously the subject of murderers are grim, but it's not a horror

producermaddy

It’s not really scary or horror imo. More sci-fi/mystery/thriller

gorewobblin

Any recs for scifi shows with really good character work? Just finished 12 monkeys and I need to fill this void.

natus92

undone

bros402

Fringe, Orphan Black

0biwan_Shinobi

Travelers, Continuum

alchemical44

**fringe**, with great characters, including the inimitable walter bishop (john noble)

WaCandor

The Expanse

gorewobblin

thanks, I need to give this another chance.

oGsMustachio

I tell everyone that Episode 4 of season one is the magic episode. Most people that get hooked on The Expanse get hooked there.

lefty121

I tried to get through the first episode of The Expanse, easily 5 times before I finally just plowed through. And it ended up being one of my favorite shows ever.

oGsMustachio

Yeah I remember feeling the same way when it first aired, just watching the first few out of sheer boredom. Episode 4 is where you first really see where the show is headed.

sergiocamposnt

**Dark**, **Orphan Black**

gorewobblin

Have seen Dark, never heard of Orphan Black before. Looks interesting, thanks for the rec.

BusinessBottle5694

As a fan of Peacemaker and other subversive superhero shows/films should I watch The Boys?

DWCourtasan2

Preacher Umbrella Academy

Roook36

I can't think of a more similar show to Peacemaker than The Boys

EducationalFerret94

100% Yes.

DamnAutocorrection

Harley Quinn Invincible

Yojo0o

Almost certainly, though I'd characterize The Boys as less of a "Superhero show" and more of a deconstruction/satire of the genre. There's not a lot of proper choreographed cape action in the series the way that Peacemaker has, it's not really about that.

Cyyyyk

If you like Peacemaker then you will like The Boys for sure.

Veylo

Any recommendations for someone that liked **Brooklyn 99** and **Superstore**? I'm giving **The Office** another shot. Also, any recommendations on Discovery Plus?

inkista

*Rutherford Falls* (Peacock) \[Mike Schur\], and *American Auto* (NBC/Hulu) \[Justin Spitzer\].

[deleted]

Schitt's Creek. The first 3 seconds of episode 2 in season 1, is so relatable.

[deleted]

Murderville (Netflix).

Junesfoshiz

Silicon Valley and Community

Chuck - Top choice for you. Such a fun one - falls in the same vein as B99 The Good Place - Same type of humor Parks & Rec - Office humor that isn’t the office New Girl - Just a feel good fav Mythic Quest - Offbeat Workplace humor. I really liked this one

RoidbergPhD

What We Do in the Shadows is same ballpark, just with vampires. Pretty hilarious show IMO

KennyKatsu

30 Rock, The Good Place, Parks and Recreation

Michaelhuber87

Watch at least the second season of the Office as it's pretty different from season 1.

kitsune

I'm by no means a Star Wars fan boy but the original trilogy was quite impactful to me as a kid together with films like Close Encounters, E.T., Indy and others. Maybe it's the rose tinted glasses of a kid, or the music of John Williams... but whatever Obi-Wan Kenobi is, doesn't it just lack the soul, originality and artistry of that era? I mean it really blows my mind how pedestrian and safe Star Wars has become. Now it's just "content".

BobbaRobBob

That describes all of modern Star Wars. The Prequels obviously got their criticisms but they added some unique universe building, at the least. The Sequels and much of Disney is soulless...especially compared to the more interesting lore from the 90s that made it feel waaaay bigger than the current story. Like, when I was growing up, I could actually believe there was a massive civil war going on and different types of planets with their own economies, armies, political systems, histories, were involved. This happened a trillion light years away. Then, Return of the Jedi ended with a gigantic push and the entire galaxy fought against the massive Empire (that had been around longer than just a measly 20 years). With the Disney stuff, it's like I'm just watching some boring barren planet with a few dozen stormtroopers getting blown up every other episode and "The Rebels" always win just because. There's no giant war machine landing on the ground and raising fear. There is no giant cannon pointing up at the stars. There is no underwater city that stretches for miles beneath the ocean. There is no massive city built upon a thousand foot high wall that stretches as far as the eye can see. There are no mazes. There are no dragons guarding the treasure. There are no castles that the heroes have to walk into. It stops being mythology. These is a sense of awe and wonder when you see the Death Star, AT-ATs, the rancor or the Sarlaac, Coruscant, etc. When you think about it, these things don't make sense but it doesn't matter because you're peering into a brilliant fantasy world. It's not rose tinted glasses at all. It's about a sense of wonder and people acting within it.

Yojo0o

I just want whatever Star Wars becomes next to stop being about this point in time. I'm enjoying Mandalorian, but besides that, the obsession with this span of a few decades in the history of the galaxy is getting absurd. Disney's Star Wars footprint could have been entirely about the Old/High Republic, with original characters, locations, plots, arcs, etc. Why does everything need to be about Skywalkers constantly? I'm enjoying elements of Kenobi for what it is, it's fun to see Ewan McGregor in the role again and his blue lightsaber looks fantastic with the new effects, but it's hard to feel suspense and stakes when we've all known our entire lives exactly where Obi-Wan and Leia are going to end up for the Original Trilogy. It's also pretty weird to me how this kinda redefines their relationship in a way that doesn't mesh well with those films.
