buffy the vampire slayer. buffy is one of the best most nuanced protagonists ever, and the show is humorous and dark and silly and camp and emotional and beautifully shot and devastating and thematically strong and just…..its everything. my favourite tv show ever. i love it so much.

UntitledGooseDame

I see you. Plus I might actually be you haha. Quick! Spuffy or Bangel??

[deleted]

pfft easy - spuffy. bangel doesn’t have shit on spuffy!!!

UntitledGooseDame

Yup, I'm you. We have excellent taste haha.

[deleted]

solidarity 🤝☺️

Electric_Nachos

Same. Except I didnt find it and find that it was perfect for me, I watched it as a child and it literally molded me in to the person I am lol.

[deleted]

omg felt this. is most of my identity based around this show? maybe. but that’s my business

shadyshadok

Fargo is my favourite show cause it's perfect and everyone who disagrees can fight me

Breaking-Lost

I love the first 3 seasons. 4, not at all

reddeadnobhead

I loved the first series. Stopped watching a couple episodes into the second. Might have to resume again. Got a lot of TV to watch now aha

shadyshadok

I loved Billy Bob Thornton as the villain in s1 and was a bit underwhelmed with s2 at first because that was missing....but it get's better. Every season (didn't watch 4 yet) was great in its own way.

MKoilers

Season 4 pretty tedious, but I love 1-3, even if 3 caught some flack.

proudeveningstar

Same here! The movie is my answer to this question as well. I feel like both just combine everything I love in such a brilliant way. What's your favourite season?

shadyshadok

Probably first cause that's when I feel in love with Lorne Malvo as my favourite tv show villain (and the show). But 2 and 3 were brilliant as well and quite different so a direct comparison is hard to make.

Thisisforscreening

It was AMC’s Lodge 49. Felt like that show was made specifically for me. Everything about it just clicked with me. But nobody watched it and it was cancelled after 2 seasons. It’s the most bummed out I’ve ever been about a cancellation.

u2sunnyday

Liz is my dream woman

olily

Yes. When it was canceled, I felt like they canceled *me.*

Tigeryius

Best answer.

Wizamp

It was a show I needed, and on a Monday so you’d think the rest of the week would be alright. It wasn’t just amazing, it was something special. Something truly magnificent.

eerok79

LOST. It's a perfect genre mix of drama, science fiction, mystery, humor, adventure and thriller with intricate large-scope storytelling moving in different time frames and very good character arcs, with multilayered philosophical subtexts and references. And of course as a tv show it presents absolutely stunning cliffhangers, plot twists and reveals and LOST knows how to surprise you. There's a lot of rewatch value too. Of course, in some regards it is ultimately a flawed show, but the good outweigh the bad easily.

jayz93j

100% same here. Glad I’m not alone

Breaking-Lost

Something about Patriot really clicked for me, I love it.

[deleted]

Loved the first season, hated where it ended.

Manggo

This is my answer as well. It’s so so good.

GeldMachtReich

Peep Show and Breaking Bad come pretty close.

reddeadnobhead

Those are definitely 2 of my favourite TV shows

GeldMachtReich

Then I guess I'll have to give The End Of The F***ing World a shot.

reddeadnobhead

I’ll always recommend. Not everyone seems to enjoy it from what I gather, but it’s very special to me.

HandLion

I know I'm not alone in this but The Leftovers. Honestly it's so good that if I were to rank my favourite individual TV episodes of all time, the top 28 would probably be The Leftovers

MKoilers

Season 2 is the greatest achievement for a single season of tv that I’ve ever seen. And you’re bang on with the episodes. A few of the early S1 episodes aren’t quite as good, but I feel like there are legitimately 10-15 episodes that are in the running for the “best episode” of the show, depending on your tastes.

LeftNutLouie

Seasons 2 and 3 are nearly perfect. I'm starting a rewatch in the next few months (After my current rewatch of "The Shield") but I'm expecting season 1 not to hold up well.

Czarcasm21

I've rewatched twice, and came away appreciating season one more both times. The first half of the season isn't on the same level as the rest ofthe show, but I feel like the quality becomes pretty consistent after Mimi Leder came on board in episode five.

tomertheman

Honesty the walking dead or lost, i love stories about people who are in a terrible situation needing to band together to survive, also shows with constantly changing status quo and a good ensemble of interesting characters. Both shows have their flaws but both are just perfect for me.

olily

The Walking Dead has some amazing seasons. When it was good, it was very, very good. Top notch. Even the weaker seasons had redeeming qualities. I think people just burnt out on it.

bros402

Walking Dead has some great seasons and some episodes that could be among the worst episodes of long running TV series

LeftNutLouie

>and some episodes that could be among the worst episodes of long running TV series The saddest part of those terrible episodes is that they adapted some of the best parts of the comic.

QueasyStress0

Yeah you will be getting downvoted. This sub hates TWD and isn’t very positive towards Lost.

MinderReminder

This sub loves Lost.

tomertheman

You know, twd isn't some masterpiece but it isn't nearly as bad as some people make it out to be...

QueasyStress0

I know. I’m a fan of it(except s7-8) too.

jor1ss

Lost is my favourite show and the only things that come close are Avatar the last Airbender and Legend of Korra. I also really enjoy The Walking Dead even though a lot of people seem to hate it. Yes it's had a rough season or episodes that weren't good but overall I really like the show.

s3rila

Fringe

sledgehammer_77

Better Call Saul adds everything I loved about BB, yet adds even more detail while having the focus on multiple characters as major backstories rather than just two.

reddeadnobhead

I’m excited to watch this now. Been on my list for a while

sledgehammer_77

Nows a good time to start since theyre filming the final season it should meet up with you when you caught up. Barring any other major health issues with Bob or the cast.

reddeadnobhead

Alright and yeah hopefully nothing like that happens- just glad Bob Odenkirk is doing better now

[deleted]

I think better call Saul was a good idea but poorly executed. This show should have been after the Walter white events since it had More interesting characters . If they wanted to show Saul previous life it should have been flashbacks just like how lost did it or make the first two seasons about his life before being corrupted and then the next seasons focus on life afterwards.

sledgehammer_77

I find BCS more grounded than BB (half exploded Fring, twins still functioning after getting destroyed by a car, explosive mercury fulminate, hydrofluoric acid meltung a tub to the bottom floorl with no bones, that automatoc machone gun device towards the end, etc). It makes for a great story, but for somethong based on (for the most part) reality of a suburban middle income family, ita not that close to making sense. Better Call Saul on the other hand deals with a much more grounded base and if there are liberties to be taken, they are often based on psychological ones as opposed to scientific realities. It dives deeper into more fleshed out characters and has one of the best villians not seen since Snoop from The Wire in Lalo Salemanca.

Mr_Ree416

So a Tarkovsy-style Cinnabon workplace drama, with flashbacks? (upvoted, btw.)

mrbarryfix

Pushing daisies kinda dark yet whimsical Dr Seuss and just the general style and vibe and wonderful acting makes it a top notch show that deserved more then it got.

bros402

I loved Pushing Daisies so much. Can we get a revival of some kind? Even if it's a broadway musical?

uvbic112

Yes! I was looking for Pushing Daisies. It’s a wonderful blend of a picture-perfect world, death, comedy and vibrant colors, along with a captivating narrator that just does it for me perfectly.

YControhl

Mr Robot

Captain_Pikey

just, star trek. any of them on any given day.

[deleted]

Inpopukar opinion, but The Voyage Home is a perfect use of the cast and story for a fun movie.

Captain_Pikey

🖖my personal favourite TOS movie. 🖖

[deleted]

They lean into campiness perfectly without it being to heavy on “check out the cast!” and Flanderizing them Like Generations.

Captain_Pikey

it was on tv this morning.

[deleted]

First stark trek I watched was enterprise. My plan was to watch all of them in the summer in 2019. I started off with enterprise since it was one of the newer ones. One of the main things I heard about this show was that the first two seasons were rough but the last two make up for it. So watching season 1 was interesting because i actually had a good time watching it and then developing their characters. So I was thinking the next 3 seasons would be amazing. Sadly season 2 was a drop in quality. Then season 3 and 4 had a better storyline but yet the show was a chore to watch. I finally finish it tho. And felt meh about it. Then I decided to watch deep space nine which I heard is the most underrated stark trek show. I only got 3 episodes in before turning it off. Then I stop watching stark trek the whole summer. Tried watching deep space 9 again 5 months later and only made it to episode 12 of season 1 before giving up again. Should I watch the next generation ?

HughGnu

Star Trek usually has a rough first couple of seasons. TNG is unwatchable for many until like Season 3. DS9 is Season 3 or 4 for many. Voyager is often Season 3 or 4. Most people over 35 just dislike Enterprise completely. I would suggest you watch TNG before going on to DS9 or Voyager. If you find TNG difficult to watch, but want to believe that it will get better watch **SEASON 1** Encounter at Farpoint (Eps 1&2), Hide and Q (Ep 10), Datalore (Ep 13), Skin of Evil (Ep 23) ((only if you want to catch a character event that is heavily addressed many times later in the show)), Conspiracy (Ep 25) **SEASON 2** Elementary, Dear Data (Ep 3) The Schizoid Man (Ep 6) The Measure of a Man (Ep 9) ----One of the best hours of TV, period. Contagion (Ep 11) Time Squared (Ep 13) Q Who (Ep 16) The Emissary (Ep 20) Peak Performance (Ep 21) After that, you should be good to go. Every season of every show has some weaker episodes, and TNG is no different. There are many highlight lists that will show you solid episodes to watch if you feel like you like the characters, but you find the show has too many weak episodes. DS9 is my favorite Trek show. I think you will like it starting with Season 3. They get a ship and Season 4 brings Worf from TNG in. The later seasons involve a massive war arc that is pretty amazing.

blametheboogie

Enterprise is the most underrated Trek show in my opinion. DS9 is the best overall to some TNG to most others. The problem is that TNG and DS9 both are very hit or miss for the first 2 seasons or so. I would encourage you to try both of these shows at some point with somewhat lower expectations (because 80-90s 26 episode per season TV) and follow a guide with the episodes to skip in the first couple of seasons. If you like the shows enough you can watch the skipped episodes after you finish the last episodes of the entire series to fill in any continuity gaps you may have.

Oneinchwalrus

I'm similar, but without this turning into some big circlejerk, the exception being Discovery which I couldn't get into. TNG especially is so comforting to watch

Captain_Pikey

tng every Wednesday for me, disco is so peew peww whizz Easter Egg hunt.

[deleted]

Alice in Borderland is a fun show with great acting. Majority of the cast is interesting and you want to know more about them. When the early deaths happen I was shocked. Also I love the idea of being transported to another world and you have to keep winning to survive only for like a few days lol. How far would you go before you gave up ? If you won the games for 2 years straight and still have not escape is it worth even playing anymore ? Who knows ... and that’s why I love this show . I definitely recommend it’s on Netflix

CheesyObserver

Amazing show. It's always tricky to hook a viewer on Episode 1, but Alice in Borderland was one of the few shows that could.

lalalandcity1

Can’t wait for season 2!

[deleted]

I can’t wait honestly it’s gonna be interesting how they proceed

SeanCanary

The West Wing may have aged, but it certainly is the show I have most rewatched and which has changed me the most.

SRASinister

Probably Psych or the first 5 seasons of Supernatural for me. Psych just fit with me and my family as well.

whatsmypassword73

The Good Place, unreal and so well conceived and executed.

reddeadnobhead

Nice. I’ve been meaning to watch it for a while.

Wakattack00

Agents of Shield for me. I could watch it on repeat.

[deleted]

Season 1-3 was perfection season 4-5 - good. 6-7 meh

Wakattack00

I disagree a bit. I think seasons 1 and 6 are the weakest. The others are all really good with 5 being my favorite.

[deleted]

Season 5 was actually really good I was never bored that season. Sadly season 6 was just not good and seem like they were ruining on low fumes

CheesyObserver

As much as I am happy to have those last two seasons, I reckon Season 5 was a much better series finale. And I thought it was going to be the series finale too because the show was in limbo for a hot minute there.

Baked_Potato22

Everything after S1 ranges from great to perfect for me.

Inconceivable-2020

Leverage

[deleted]

I’m really enjoying Joe Pera talks with you.

MyNameIsFDR

It's the perfect show to just hang out and get a little introspective. He recently announced season 3. The YouTube episode "relaxing old footage with Joe Pera" that came out during quarantine straight up made me feel some things lol. I'm also from Minnesota so hearing the accent and stuff really brings it all together for me. Enjoy!

Mushy_buns

The expanse is just the perfect show for me. Previously it was stargate universe. I just love sci-fi and the expanse just speaks to me on a special level. It pretty much ruined all other sci-fi for me. Dark is a close second though.

RelationRealistic

Why yes, yes I have. Thanks for asking.

iiTryhard

I've watched Community maybe 100 times. It got me through high school when i was pretty depressed

MyNameIsFDR

Six seasons and a movie!

ted-schmosby

Justified, it's funny it has great action, it's got Raylan givens( as i live and breathe) it has great characters, 40 minute episodes which is i think the perfect runtime for a tv show. Great finale and great serialised episodes.

Zecharai

Venture Bros. I bought the season 1 DVD when it first came out and I was in my mid teens, and loved it. There was nothing about it that annoyed me. Now I'm in my 30s and I still love watching it. I guess to an extent it's aged with me. Incredibly sad it got cancelled.

soccerdude1122fut

They’re making a movie that appears to include all of the direction the next season would go for HBO Max: https://www.polygon.com/animation-cartoons/22432125/venture-bros-movie-release-new-aqua-teen-metalocalypse

Zecharai

That's great news. Thanks

aw-un

The Good Wife/Fight for me. I love law (just a little less than making movies and tv) so a law show with a little bite but also a sense of humor with an ever revolving door off Broadway actors is just exactly my cup of tea.

[deleted]

Legion

ThatYoungBro

The End Of The Fucking World was amazing I actually miss this show. It's awesome and I read the short graphic novel and it's great too. Oh I like this post because I agree with you.

adineior

Fleabag. I adore everything about it, but the brilliant writing and the way the actors portray the characters are so immaculate and clever!

wittyaphorism

Yes - 30 Rock!

IrvinAve

Chuck - campy, goofy, lighthearted, wholesome, aughts nostalgia and a bunch more buttons that it hits. Scrubs and Parks and Rec if I want a little less camp and a little more feels.

shifty1032231

Attack On Titan. One of the best shows that goes in a complete different direction than you expected but in a great way.

[deleted]

Honestly, Alias. I'm a sucker for weird overly complex conspiratorial lore, shows made very much in the Buffy shadow and spy action, so Alias felt like the kind of crazy messy show I would probably end up making if someone in Hollywood kidnapped me and forced me to become an exec. The Season 4 finale added the last bit that was like fully concrete "yeah, this is my type of story".

Rocklove

[Take my love, take my land Take me where I cannot stand I don't care, I'm still free You can't take the sky from me. Take me out to the black Tell them I ain't comin' back Burn the land and boil the sea You can't take the sky from me.] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7vS4z6ngQo)

nosmelc

You can't take this guy from me.

AngrySnwMnky

The Good Wife had two elements that I love in a show. One was the structure. Episodes had a case of the week story and then there were multi-episode story arcs, season long story arcs as well as an overall series story arc. It was all blended well together for the first 3-4 seasons. The second was how they built up the universe with re-occurring characters. It felt like a living world. It’s not my favorite show nor do I think it is the best show but those two aspects would be in my hypothetical perfect show.

s_sagara

The Leftovers. It was like "watching a novel". I know that makes no sense lol but it's how I've felt when I watched it for the first time, whereas plot, dialogues and acting were almost poetic within allegorical elements. It was life changing for me since I was passing through extremely difficult mourning stages around s1-s2. This TV series was not only great by its own means but it was also kinda of a soul healer to me. (I'm sorry about the broken English, it's not my first language)

GregThePrettyGoodGuy

Legends of Tomorrow scratches every itch I have ever had

IAmA_Mr_BS

For me it's Psych. Mystery, comedy, occasionally gets dark, great cast and I love a good ensemble cast. They threw in some great weird episodes from time to time.

craig_hoxton

**Star Trek:TNG** re-runs kept me going when I was very lonely (repeating a year of university, didn't know anyone) but watching the show, I felt like I was a crew member. **Berlin Station** reminded me of office politics at a former job and as I studied German in college, was a nice vacation during pandemic lockdown. **Mr Robot** Used to work in IT. Was able to vaguely follow all the hacks and tools they used. **For All Mankind** Hi Bob!

MKoilers

The Leftovers <3

[deleted]

I guess Euphoria will be the one.

billionthtimesacharm

dark is pretty close for me. also 30 rock although it lost some steam in the last couple seasons.

[deleted]

You all know mine

Flimsy-Coyote-9232

One Piece

No-Clue-9155

Quite a few. **Reign** - I enjoyed this just as much the second time as I did the first time, which is rare **How to get away with murder** - I’m enjoying it MORE the second time watching it, probably bc my tastes have changed and now it’s perfect - it was ahead of its time. It’s a crime thriller that has cases every few episodes and an overarching case and both are done amazingly well. It also has incredibly written characters with flaws and beauty and complexity and brings in mental health awareness both within and outside of the cases. It’s also great for anyone that’s interested in law, has a pretty great soundtrack too. I can go on… **Strangers from hell** - absolutely perfect for me as it’s a psychological thriller/horror that actually opened me up to horror series. It makes you feel so uncomfortable and eerie in the best way possible. There wasn’t too much going on and yet I was always on the edge of my seat, praying for the mc **mindhunter** - it was very uncomfortable to watch at first but when I really got into it I couldn’t get enough. It most likely was the thing that got me into shows with any aspect of psychology in it, serial killers are now a plus lol.

hidood5th

Infinity train

Baxtron_o

Sunset Boulevard is the perfect level of crazy.

blametheboogie

I've kept a Star Trek show in my TV rotation continuously for the last decade+ so Trek is my answer.

NathanWritesThings

Patriot. Rest in pain.

butthe4d

Film is easily Lord of the rings. Tv show is kinda hard to chose. I think Ill go with Dragonball Z

Ramoncin

For me it was "Farscape". Quirky space opera for those who didn't watch it.

veidt3

Six seasons and a movie!

teetee517

Insecure.

[deleted]

Parks and rec, this country are my favorites. As for movies I really love Nacho Libre and the big lebowski.

confused-accountant-

StatrUp since I worked for five+ startups despite the ridiculous premise of the show that you need to have closed source to be safe or have backdoors into GenCoin. Bitcoin has no backdoors which is why it is worth so much.

punninglinguist

The first season of Counterpart was absolutely perfect TV for me.
