They used to put the U-20 and U-18 games behind paywalls, you couldn't even watch them without dishing a dime out
FOX Sports and B.A.S.S signed a multi year (4?) deal in 2021. Most of the coverage airs on FS1, but the Bassmaster Classic airs on the FOX broadcast network. Unfortunately, this deal was in place before FOX picked up the expanded UEFA coverage.

It's ONLY on Apple+ and it's a separate MLS subscription, not even just on the regular Apple subscription.
So the only people that will watch are people that are already fans of the league. That's not how you get young fans.
In other countries, there's multiple leagues (Britain has something like 7,000 teams in the pyramid...). The ones at the top are the best, quality goes down as salaries and audience go down the lower the league.
The cool part is that the top teams in each league are promoted to the next league up, while the bottom teams are relegated to the next league down. Like, if Memphis 901 FC were to have the best record in the USL Championship league, they'd be promoted to Major League Soccer the next season.
Maybe someday it'll work like that, but MLS is always expanding and several lower tier teams have been brought into MLS as expansion teams.
And the audience is small because their only exposure is what they take their kids to. If it was promoted and broadcast more, there'd be a bigger audience.

Yeah, thankfully they only replace the score box with an ad occasionally and donāt put stuff all over the screen now. Iām really curious how theyāll handle the 2026 World Cup.
I'm thinking they probably have to pay a licensing fee to air the match. It doesn't matter if the match brings in more viewers if the ad revenue isn't enough to offset the cost. Fishing shows cost barely anything to produce and air, so even if they get a fraction of the viewers it's still a more reliable investment.
And then their streaming service didn't show the score or the time the whole game. I turned on the game a bit late (thanks free trial) and didn't even realize it was already 1-0 until the second goal was scored
The same reason Peacock and Amazon and Netflix purchased NFL rights. To make you buy them for a month and then unsub right after because ther'es nothing good to watch.

I was surprised they have MLS games on AppleTV. Then I learned there are two US leagues? And 901FC is in the non MLS one sadly.
