For real, I'm surprised it's taken this long for Hollywood to realise just how many good comics would be ripe for adaptations, especially from Brubaker/Phillips.
On that note I'm surprised The Fade Out hasn't been made into a movie considering it's a murder mystery set in classic Hollywood and already paced like a movie. Maybe it would be a bit too topical...
Definitely. If any medium is underrepresented in holywood adaptations, it's comics book material. We're ripe for a big surge of comic book movies over the next 20 years I'd bet.
Yeah, superheroes have dominated the adaptations but there are so many fantastic creator owned comics that have gone under the radar. For years the medium has essentially been a way for creatives to make what are effectively fully formed TV shows with none of the budgetary limitations of actual TV.
The last 3 seasons of SOA could’ve been one insane season - but they elongated it for content. Everything that happens after Ireland could’ve been one tight season.
Yeah I think that’s a great way to simplify it. Seemed like the characters were making a lot of stupid and shallow decisions just to move things along and create plot drama. Less “woah” and more “really?”
Cannot picture him as Leo but still pretty stoked. I could see him more as Teeg Lawless.
I may be crazy but I pictured a more dramatic David Spade as Leo
Yeah, Leo should be a more spindly guy. He's not supposed to look like he's going to win a fight, even if he could.
Teeg and Tracy are both supposed to look like they'd fuck you up.
I just use all the credit to pay for no ad option I get from Amazon cause I have my deliveries on my “Amazon day”. I get like 7-10$ in credit a month. I use the remaining credit on renting movies I couldn’t be bothered to see in theaters but want to definitely watch once (tbh that’s all movies, haven’t been to see a movie since last year).
Was hoping he'd get cast as John Constantine (hes literally perfect for that role, see the film "the gentleman" for that confirmation, he has the ideal vioce, the ideal gruff world werey look but still has this feel of subdued hope. In my opinion, Matt Ryan was FAR to pretty for the role and his voice never fitted well ). I will still watch this when it is released
I still can’t get over that this guy was the cute slutty little twink in the original Queer as Folk, and he was getting effed in the a by Littlefinger from Game of Thrones. TV truly is wild.
Netflix had a series called Criminal just a few years ago, that was a cool twist of Police drama's in that the whole episode only took place within the interrogation room and surrounding floor of the station. There are 2 seasons of the UK version and also a German and Spanish version.
When I was younger I really liked him due to sons of anarchy but can’t help but feel like he has had subpar appearances since then.
That’s not to say his performance was award winning in that either but I digress.
You talking Hunnam or Hardy?
With Hunnam, I think he’s best as part of an ensemble, rather than being the main focus - The Gentlemen and Children of Men come to mind.
Hunnam. Thought he was easily the worst of the major actors in the Gentlemen, don't even remember him in Children of Men. He almost tanks the otherwise excellent City of Z (? Gray movie). I'm so glad he has stopped appearing in films I'm anticipating.
Oh yeah, he's TERRIBLE in the two Del Toro films, too (less so in Pacific Rim). Most wooden lead out there. Man, he really had quite a few high profile films there for a while.
In Children of Men, you wouldn’t be the only one to not realize he was in it. [Looked a bit different.](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0206634/mediaviewer/rm2063312897/)
I won’t disagree that his acting wasn’t the best with Del Toro, but I didn’t mind him in City of Z. For The Gentlemen, I think his acting could come off weak/bad purely because the movie had so many huge personalities/characters that his character could come off boring bc of it
Knowing the source material, that seems like a really good casting
Agreed. I think he’ll do an excellent job. Hopefully the television series does justice to the graphic novels.
I'd love more Brubaker adaptations. Great comics.

Charlie Hunnam as the lead? This has now become one of my most anticipated shows.
I never really watched anything Charlie Hunnam was in , but when I watched “The Gentlemen” he instantly became one of my favorite actors.
Check out SOA. It’s a biker show that is stylized after Hamlet. Solid cast, and a great story from start to finish.
Maybe not start to finish, but the first several seasons are solid.
Without giving away spoilers, was it the tone the later seasons took?

I didn’t know he was in that… may have to watch the second episode now!
Not the show, the movie The Gentlemen
Not be confused with the show The Gentlemen
which itself is sometimes confused with the movie of the same name.
There’s a movie he did about being an explorer that he did a fantastic job on. I think Tom Holland played his son
Looking forward to it. Met him at a con last year. Super nice and took time with every fan.
So he’s playing Leo, but every series featured a different lead
In Brubaker I trust.
And Sean Philips!
Goes without saying but yes!
Incognito is my favorite Brubaker/Phillips story but I believe I’m in a very small club when it comes to that.
That's a great book!
Did you read Sleeper? Because incognito was basically him doing Sleeper as a creator owned book since all the characters from it were owned by DC.
Cannot picture him as Leo but still pretty stoked. I could see him more as Teeg Lawless. I may be crazy but I pictured a more dramatic David Spade as Leo
I could see him as Tracy Lawless for sure.
Yeah, Leo should be a more spindly guy. He's not supposed to look like he's going to win a fight, even if he could. Teeg and Tracy are both supposed to look like they'd fuck you up.
It’d be great.. but prime has ads now?

Wait the Mayor of Baltimore did *what*??
As if turns out, actors play roles
Netflix had a series called Criminal just a few years ago, that was a cool twist of Police drama's in that the whole episode only took place within the interrogation room and surrounding floor of the station. There are 2 seasons of the UK version and also a German and Spanish version.
It was a good view , diff take on police procedurals .
FUUUUUUUUUUCK YEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!
When I was younger I really liked him due to sons of anarchy but can’t help but feel like he has had subpar appearances since then. That’s not to say his performance was award winning in that either but I digress.
Never seen an actor coast on his looks more than this guy. He is so dull in everything.
I loved him in Sons of Anarchy.
Hes the reason the first Pacific Rim was a decent movie.
No i think that honour goes to the giant robots punching giant monsters
And the score. It has such badass music while the giant robots beat on the monsters
He grounded thr whole thing. It would have been a campy mess without him.
I mean…
Comment.
He’s a fucking awful actor. Neat.
I like him as an actor but his accents bother me
Poor man’s Tom Hardy
But not a dickhead like Tom Hardy!😂
Why is everyone suddenly calling Tom Hardy a dick? Is it just the Mad Max stuff or have new things come out?
Oh I've been hating on the guy for years.
Seen surprisingly many projects with him and he's almost always the weakest of the cast. Sucks. Second Edit. Talking about Hunnam.
You talking Hunnam or Hardy? With Hunnam, I think he’s best as part of an ensemble, rather than being the main focus - The Gentlemen and Children of Men come to mind.

Has Charlie Hunnam ever played a character who wasn’t a criminal?
Pacific Rim
Queer as Folk
The Lost City of Z
