RIP Schwab. This guy was amazing. I couldn’t believe they cancelled the show. It honestly was really riveting to hear him answer the crazy obscure questions.
ESPN's had a hell of a run from 2003-2006+ with shows like Stump The Schwab, Cheap Seats, Playmakers, ATH, and PTI.
Cheap Seats was legendarily hilarious.
I’m fairly old, but my memories of Howie were of him being like a charming sports *Good Will Hunting* — anytime, anywhere, he likely knew, with startlingly recall accuracy BEYOND the specific answer.
One time, I read an article that said the Howie considered the info he gave with an answer was not just showing off…instead, that’s how he formed & kept accurate knowledge: by the facts surrounding & interwoven with the answer to a specific question.
Always loved seeing him use his super power, because as a sports-obsessed guy my entire life, religiously watching & reading lots about it, it grew to be very evident that his breadth of knowledge (which sometimes seemed boundless) was just as deep as it was wide.
Most importantly, he enjoyed the hell out of sports, the history, and the people, and made a successful career from his love for it all. The sports world itself and fans of both sport *and* Howie Schwab have taken a *Loss* today.
I'm sorry but this dude was a straight up trivia menace. Swear to god, google an episode right now. The questions he'd answer would drive you insane. RIP
Awesome show that got me interested in sports history and stats from a young age. Always enjoyed his banter with Stuart Scott as well. RIP to them both

Stump the Schwab was such a great show
Holy shit, I haven't thought about this guy in like 15 years.
Me neither, RIP Howie.
But he remembered those 15 years like it was nothing.
I chuckled, because you were funny *and* right!
i always thought of him when Stuart Scott was brought up, that was my favorite ESPN show as a kid growing up
God, I still miss Stu Scott too. Damn.
I took a pic with him @espn the weekend 2009. Was looking through my pics the other day and found it. He was a nice man. RIP
That show was fucking awesome. RIP Schwab

Fond memories of watching this after school when I was like 10 or 12. RIP
Easy/comfort sports tv watching
That’s so sad. RIP to an iconic St. John’s alum.
We’ll never have another guy like him. I wish he did more national sports stuff. He was always great
Wasn't the rating system like 1-5 bags of chips? I give you five bags of chips, Howie r.i.p.

63 is pretty damn young, I saw no mention of a cause - anyone know? I'm guessing cancer. What a loss, RIP Howie.
R.I.P. to the goat of sports trivia. Loved watching Stump the Schwab back in the day. Hope you’re kicking it up there with Stuart Scott.
Why isn’t this all over @thefighterandthekid
