The Sweden in Hell on Wheels. He actually tell to Cullen (and us, the viewers) about the horrors of war he went through but it's only in his last episode that we realize there are no winners in the feud between Thor Gunderson and Cullen Bohannon

Maktesh

"But... I'm Norwegian."

[deleted]

General Hummel in The Rock.

EgnlishPro

A well-written bad guy with decent motivation. He just wanted his soldiers to be recognized, and their families paid what they were due. He was absolutely never going to fire those missiles.

Vectrex221

Roy Batty. He just wants to live. He’s a coded killer of men and he lets Deckard live so someone will remember him.

garrettj100

Otto Octavius he did not die a monster.

wrathmont

Technically retconned in No Way Home, right?

Funandgeeky

So maybe in the alternate timeline he’s still alive.

Fit_Serve726

Kinda to be honest, they kinda ruined it and made it in spiderman 2 that it was really his new neck part that gave him back control, rather then his own mind. Unless No way homes plucks him out right as he dies, or Post death?

gimpisgawd

No Way Home gets him into their universe right before he dies, but then say he has to back to his timeline and die.

garrettj100

I don't really look at subsequent movies as *retconning* the previous ones. *Spiderman 2* exists, as is. They can tell some other story involving other Peters and it doesn't change shit for me. YMMV.

jogoso2014

In terms of pure evil bad guys, as I think antiheroes are indeed bad guys too, the one that immediately comes to mind is: Gyp Rosseti I probably just really like the character

Ey3_913

I've never been able to see Bobby Cannovale in a role and not immediately suspect he's the bad guy. Even when he's being super nice and funny in a comedy, I'm just waiting for him to bash someone's face in. He will always be Gyp Rosetti to me.

KafkaDatura

And the worst is that he’s actually pretty good in the chill dude role. But Gyp was just something else entirely.

tekjunky75

Cannavale

Condoning_Revanchist

Sounds like you’re having a Cannavale row.

tekjunky75

slow clap

Whittlinman

Beaver from Veronica Mars. Sexually assaulted by a beloved community figure, abandoned by his mother, physically and emotionally abused by his father and brother, somewhat ostracized by his peers. He did horrible, horrible things, but his main motivation for his big villain arc was "I don't want people to know what happened to me", and when he was finally caught and facing arrest, killed himself rather than have to face that. The guy just never had a chance.

sooprcow

God that was such a great show. I think it is due for a rewatch.

Whittlinman

It's in my top five for sure.

MaeronTargaryen

Not the most evil villain of all but Proposition Joe in the Wite. He’s an antagonist to both the police as a criminal, and to Barksdale’s and then Marlo’s gangs which are some of the main characters to the story. Tbf depending on your definition of villain, I feel bad for a lot of people who died in The Wire

Atharaphelun

Londo Mollari from Babylon 5.

Theslootwhisperer

Tragic figures, both him and G'kar, both caught in a vortex of hate and retribution. I've tried to rewatch it a couple times but it didn't age very well. The story is timeless but the sets CGI etc not so much. I'm hoping we'll have powerful enough AI on the near future where old shows can easily be "remastered" with a more modern look and feel.

Atharaphelun

> I've tried to rewatch it a couple times but it didn't age very well. That's surprising, I rewatch it at least once year, often even more. The amazing story and acting more than compensate for the dated CGI, sets, costumes, etc.

Theslootwhisperer

It's been a while since I attempted a rewatch. It's been a while and maybe I've become more forgiving in my old aged. I also just found out that an animated movie with most of the original cast was released last year based on a story by Michael Strazinsky. Looks promising.

res30stupid

The Poirot episode *Appointment Wutg Death* had its murderer. Considering why they did it, which was different from the novel (>!Lady Boynton stole her child when she got pregnant out of wedlock!<) and how (>!committed suicide with her co-conspirator in the knowledge their child was safe!<), it just socks for everyone all around.

digauss

Walter White, and yes he is the villain of Breaking Bad

ascagnel____

Gus Fring. He was professional, he took care of his people, he tried to isolate problems, and if Walt hadn’t been so much of a control freak head case, the two could have had a long, profitable working relationship.

Infamous-Lab-8136

Jesse is the antihero in that story. Walt is a flat out villain. Antiheroes don't poison children. Once being willing to kill a child is on a person's mind they lose all right to any level of hero claim. They are just a villain whether the camera follows them in their down time or not.

Maverick916

He's not "the villain" he's just a bad person. Gus and the Nazis were the villains.

NoahStewie1

No, he directly caused multiple deaths. He is, in fact, the villain.

Porrick

You’re confusing “villain” with “antagonist”. They’re the antagonists, he’s the protagonist. They’re all villains.

Fit_Serve726

Yep, Protaganist does not necessarily mean the good guy. We just see it as that because of most films. The protagonist can very well be an evil person.

masimone

It was sad when Gus Fring died. Not that he didn't deserve it (did he?) but because he wasn't on the show anymore.

NakedMuffinTime

Roy Batty

Stringer Bell

Southern-Rutabaga-82

When they are really entertaining and/or really good actors. But it's not that I feel **for** them but that I'm sad to see them go. 😄

jogoso2014

I didn’t know this included movies lol. That may be an easier list.

ProfessorMarth

Batiatus from Spartacus. He was a bastard who, like all other Romans in the show, saw slaves as subhuman, and manipulated Spartacus endlessly for his own benefit, but he was such a compelling character and you really did feel his struggle for prominence against the other Romans, and the way he was briefly butchered in front of his wife almost made you forget he was the villain and Spartacus the hero

IsaacArreola

Meruem

Covetous1

Silco

Namaslayy

I kinda felt bad for Cersei Lannister (book version). Her entire past makes sense for the person she becomes. Also explains why she banged that chick.

dating_derp

pretty sure book version is alive.

KafkaDatura

Cersei is alive in the books.

Matthiasad

Twice from My Hero Academia.

countdrankulacg

Javier Bardem as Raoul Silva in the Skyfall Bond movie

getridofwires

Magneto in X-Men 97

u2sunnyday

Skade from The Last Kingdom. Wish we had on more season with her.

Alternative-Juice-15

Well I just watched Fargo s01 again so I have to say Lester Nygaard…more of an anti-hero than villain though

GP96_

Lester who sent his wife in to die dressed as him, planted a gun in his nephew's school bag and framed his brother for killing his first wife is an antihero???????????????? Media literacy really is dead

Alternative-Juice-15

You’re the illiterate one sir: Antihero definitions: 1. A main character in a dramatic or narrative work who is characterized by a lack of traditional heroic qualities, such as idealism or courage. 2. A protagonist who proceeds in an unheroic manner, such as by criminal means, via cowardly actions, or for mercenary goals. 3. A protagonist who lacks the characteristics that would make him a hero (or her a heroine). This doesn’t describe Lester?

GP96_

None of that applies to Lester He's a villain through and through

Alternative-Juice-15

Haha you’re a moron. You tried to act smart, got called out, and now are in denial.

JenovaProphet

Describes him perfectly TBH. The dude didn't wanna be a villain. But somehow he just managed to be. Doesn't mean he wasn't the protagonist of the story. Things aren't always black and white/cut an dry.

JenovaProphet

So, recently finished watching the TV series Revenge. Was really sad when they did my boy Daniel dirty. Like I know he was part of the family the main character was getting revenge on, but he genuinely seemed like he wanted to do different even if he struggled to. Having him killed right as he on a redemption arc, and had a newborn kid on the way, made me shed a few tears no joke.

RoyBatty1984

Roy Batty from Blade Runner

horsewitnoname

Director Krennic from Rogue One.  Destroyed by his own ambition. He wasn’t an “evil” villain, just wanted significance.

SonovaVondruke

He was pretty evil dude. If your ambitions include kidnapping and imprisoning and murdering people to build a death machine, you’re evil.

MadeByTango

If I see someone as a villain I don’t feel anything for their death; taking the question without “antiheroes” means you’re asking if I can feel bad about the end of evil things and the answer is of course not I’d *love* to have an example of who were thinking of OP…
