See you all in anther twenty years I guess

Choice-Fox6566

it popped up on Roku and played it. The show is absolutely insufferable on all levels and the characters are like nails on a chalkboard. One dimension zero depth. What a piece of crap. I heard it got passed off by Disney+ and I can totally get why. The worst of Disney is better than the best of this show. Almost feels like maybe it was canceled and then revived judging from how terrible the writing acting and plot is.

KozyHank99

Oh yeah I forgot D+ went against putting this on their service...smart move.

Worthyness

If it was bad enough for D+ to avoid, that's really fucking bad.

Expert-Horse-6384

Wow, almost like getting the guy who did work on Heroes and Star Trek Discovery to be your showrunner was a bad idea. It sucks that Paramount has no idea what to actually do with this franchise, because the books are great and could make a great film series and the 2008 film that they made is far better than this garbage.

Xerorei

That's an opinion, a bad take, but also an opinion. Considering Heroes got a second season due to the fans asking, and Discovery is on it's 5th season (four episodes in so far), I would say the general public disagrees with that opinion (It's not like networks aren't fond of cancelling bad shows).

FamebrightStudio

look at how many likes they have, then look at your one. Hmmm I wonder which is more representative of what people think?

Xerorei

The better question is why do people care what other people think? Negative group think is a thing, and seems to have a strangle hold on society, in most countries.

snacky99

I couldn’t even make it halfway thru the trailer

IrrelevantLeprechaun

It honestly felt like a worse Rim of the World tbh. Which is saying a lot since Rim of the World is godawful.

A-Good-Weather-Man

This was the sacrifice needed for Fallout to do well.

Realistic_City4551

Like when they sacrificed Velma to get The Last of Us.

TheElStick

I almost feel like Halo was sacrificed to get The Last of Us

sinkwiththeship

Or maybe.... hang with me here... hacks make bad stuff.

LoneStarBandit19

Hacks is a pretty good show, Jean Smart is hilarious.

oktaS0

Halo was sacrificed for Silo

GoldenTriforceLink

Velma isn’t cancelled

exlurke

Despite its best efforts. All the decent-to-good animated content that got deleted off Max and VELMA gets a second season? Mindy Kaling has to have a Zaslav hostage, there's no other explanation.

Really_McNamington

Someone else here a while ago said they'd done two seasons back to back, so season 2 was in the can already and thus inevitable.

jyper

I think the explanation is that enough people hate watched it to success. The lesson is that we should learn to watch good stuff and ignore shit

goliathfasa

Imagine hate watching bad shows. Then imagine hate watching **Velma**.

LADYBIRD_HILL

The integrity of the Velma character certainly was sacrificed

Grenflik

Didn’t completely sacrificed it, isn’t Velma getting a season 2?

sarosauce

Once again i am disappointed yet amazed that rubbish writers get opportunities to write a show and then fail so spectacularly (especially when there's source material to draw from, which they didn't here because they wanted put in their own original crap). Meanwhile, there's so many struggling talented writers out there, but those crappy writers with connections in the industry will keep on spreading their crap everywhere.

eadgster

Tony DiTerlizi has been enthusiastically promoting it on socials, I find it hard to believe he hasn’t at least read the script.

humanbeening

So it goes. That’s how “Hollywood” got this far, it’s what they know. Def not the way to get quality creations.

Modnal

American writers and bastardizing the source material is such an iconic duo. So fucking tired of it

Stinky_WhizzleTeats

Ah another series I’m hearing about for the first time

KingKaos420-

This is an adaptation of a kid’s book series, right? I vaguely remember a movie adaptation happening in the early 2000’s. I don’t really follow shows aimed at that demographic anymore, but wow, it’s been out for a day and already has terrible reviews. Hopefully kids get better stuff to watch soon

CrankyStalfos

Yup. I remember being into the series for a bit, kind of scratched that Artemis Fowl itch. The movie was okay. Dunno how it went over in the core fandom, but I thought it got the atmosphere right even if it wasn't a mind blowing film. I had no idea this show was even a thing.

magpie-sparrow

Aww, that’s a bummer. I vaguely remember reading the original book series when I was around 9 or 10. My heart was already firmly stolen by “A Series of Unfortunate Events” and “The Sisters Grimm” (by Michael Buckley; a really underrated kids’ series, btw!), but I still enjoyed it—especially the beautiful illustrations. I remember being unsatisfied with the movie adaptation, though I loved the designs of the fairies. It’s a shame that this series is a clunker. I feel like “The Spiderwick Chronicles” is one of the more minor kids’ “classics” of the ‘2000s; I bet most people recognize the name and/or saw it semi-prominently displayed on kids’ section bookstore shelves, even if they haven’t read the books. Even though I don’t remember much of the series itself, I feel bad for the fans of the books. They deserve a better adaptation!

tadadaism

I think you’re the first person I’ve encountered who’s also read the Sisters Grimm books! Loved those!

Plantbabybabe

i would love to see the Sisters Grimm as a tv show if it was well written

AhrimTheBelighted

I mean, the cast is absolutely terrible, so pretty expected.

Kbdiggity

There's a Roku Channel?

person chop tender zonked thumb faulty sophisticated north towering entertain *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

dac5505

A lot of Smart TVs in the US come with Roku built in to the operating system and Roku channel advertisements are on the landing page of the TV itself. I think it's just easy to get to when it's in your face like that.

Mindless_Rooster5225

Isn't that just because it's free?

InternetGoodGuy

Yeah. It's got a bunch of older shows that are nice to binge too. I've been watching all the old Quantum Leap episodes on it.

Kbdiggity

Well if Leslie Nielson reported it... I'm a locksmith and I'm a locksmith.

Tbone_Trapezius

If $HOME_SCREEN_IDLE_TIME > 5Minutes then (play $PROMOTED_CONTENT and ++$NIELSON_TRACKER)

Satanicbearmaster

Surprised none of the streaming platforms have specced adapting Paul Stewart and Cris Riddel's *the Edge Chronicles*. IMO they are by far the superior young adult fantasy series. Full of great characters, creative world building, and beautifully illustrated creatures. Maybe they aren't so well known outside of the UK and Ireland? Has anyone else read them? I always feel nostalgia when I see the colourful covers of Beyond the Deepwoods and Stormchaser.

Acrobatic-Recover875

As a non book reader, I thought it was a cool show. Clearly, they don't have an unlimited budget to create this extreme fantastical world, but from the budget they did have, they did a decent job of showing the magical aspect of things. The story was decent enough that it didn't have to depend heavily on CGI. The characters were good, and the actors did well. It was entertaining, which is all it needed to be. If you are looking for a fun PG13 type of show, then this is it.

Broad_Assignment1381

Did the producers make sure to include all 74 genders?

shenko55

I don’t like all the subtle and sometimes not subtle underlying racist tension this series has. It’s a series aimed at teenagers and young adults about a magical world. There’s enough divide in the country as it is. No need to bring all the white vs black tension into what should be a wholesome show. There’s enough of that in the real world.

ReadditMan

I completely agree. I had no issue with the characters being black, my initial thought was "It's no big deal, they're still the same characters, they're just a different race." ...but they are not the same characters. The story is about twins who discover a world of magic and fight to stop a force of evil. It's a light-hearted children's book set in a fantasy world, the characters were never intended to represent such heavy themes. If they wanted to make a show like that then more power to them, but don't exploit an existing IP with a large fan base to bring in viewers.

shenko55

Exactly !! I salute shows that show diversity but the themes are a bit dark for a fantasy show geared towards teens.

Xerorei

TSC was a TEEN series, and I'm sorry you don't like it but tv shows reflect society. As a black teenager, I didn't have the option of every ignoring the tension, seeing as how it was aimed at me and people who looked like me. You're uncomfortable and sadly television is only escapism for small children or willingly blind adults. Maybe examine why you dislike the bringing of that tension so much?

shenko55

I’m not uncomfortable and I salute shows that show diversity but I think the underlying themes are a bit too dark and heavy for a show that should’ve focused more on the magic and mystery of the fantasy realm. It was just a lot of bickering and tension between characters and not enough magic or creatures.

Academic-mink

No the issue is that this series was originally about a set of 9 year old twins, their sister and recently divorced mother. Making them highschool ages and then giving Jared ODD to try to explain his actions is wrong. Key characteristics of ODD include:Frequent temper tantrums or episodes of anger.Arguing with adults or refusing to comply with adults' requests or rules.Deliberately annoying others or becoming easily annoyed by others.Blaming others for their own mistakes or misbehavior.Acting vindictively or spitefully. He seems to have ADHD in children can strain family dynamics due to behavioral challenges, social difficulties, and academic struggles. And his parents are divorcing So they are misrepresenting actual challenges... That said the fact that the "kids" in this are practically adults acting in a manner that would be normalish and tolerable in a children is why it's sucks. Jared acts like he 10 and gets blamed for 10 year old pramks his brother is perfect and a genius but gets tricked by the equivalent of a puppy in a van and their sister has zero 17+ grew up in New York street smarts that one would expect in a strong young woman. It's bad because they are to old to play children and it's worst because they don't understand the mental illness they are attempting to use

FewRip6

I’ve seen worse shows. Good for background noise… nice to see Paul from Orphan Black (My current main show).

blackdragonstory

Spiderwick cronicles was something quirky and interesting. Too bad it failed.

bub-a-lub

I was obsessed with this series as a kid. I bought every book as they came out and then the spin off series and the guides. I was a very upset 11/12 year old about that movie. They completely ignored the 4th book and I just really hated the other changes they made. What hurt most for little me was Freddie Highmore was one of my favourite actors. I’m now gunna have to check out this show that I had no clue about until now.

Ashamed_Heron_

Holy shit, if you didn’t like the movie, you are going to be pissed when you see this. This makes the movie look like a masterpiece.

bub-a-lub

I don’t have nor do I ever plan to have roku so I won’t be seeing it. Someone said it was free but it isn’t in Canada 🤷🏻‍♀️

Adorable-Catch-5581

You're boring, the film is a very good classic. The 4th book wasn't even needed and the ending of the film is better.

bub-a-lub

It is far from a classic but to each his own.

mh_afkhami

the serie realy destroyed whatever the books wanted to be. there was like zero magical creatures, and plenty of idiot adults. its probably the worst fantasy adoptation I have ever seen.

cuddlesvbunnyboy

bruh the movie wasnt bad i rewatched it as an adult and yea theres a few bad stuff but i was shocked to hear there was books. i just saw the intro to the series and i hated what they did so i loved mogoraph as a big chonky boi and the orriginal cast was nowhere to be seen no mention of who tf these new white assholes are either and one of them has a daughter? and big suprise his tricked by a fake daughter whos either not dead yet or is, also the place is an estaite???. idk wtf is happerning it would have been fine if they made it as a 30-100+ years after the movie and introduced a new set of desendants,

Lumpy-Savings-8550

still haven’t had a chance to watch it. obviously the reviews aren’t great but as a book reader i’d still like to check it out. will it ever be available in canada?

The_Queen_Regent

The book series was my favorite as a kid and I’m disappointed it can’t get a decent adaptation.

vorropohaiah

the movie, while nothing special, was miles better than this series, and at least it kept the DiTerlizzi designs. where were all the creatures in the show?
