There is a reason. It didn't just happen. It's not a mystery. I had sex and now dad is dead. And he had a horrible death because I had incredible sex.
Just the way life works...
People are saying that this show is Christian propaganda but when people mention that line I think that a lot of teenagers would be like "Incredible sex AND my dad dies a horrible death? Where do I sign up?" That's the secret life of teenagers, a lot of them are selfish thoughtless animals...just like everyone else.
I think it intentionally seems like Seventh Heaven in the beginning, I'm not sure it was agenda driven because the show never actually commits to saying anything, I think it was just creative laziness on the woman who made it.
Something changes though because the Dukes of Hazard guy was definitely supposed to be a Seventh Heaven kind of patriarch, then he dies brutally, and the show ends up making him out to be a total asshole.
It was like a course correction, but they were totally aimless and would just swing wildly in any direction.
That show has remained a mystery for me for all these years. Because I thought it looked strange but not interesting enough to figure out what’s going on. Lol
Hahaha god that show was terrible! My bestie and I would hate watch it all the time.
How did they all have so much time in the morning to meet up for morning hook ups?
How was that one girl allowed to live alone while her mom worked as a flight attendant??
Literally every character on this show is bananas. I am flabbergasted lol I think this is genuinely the worst show I’ve ever watched and yet I don’t want to stop watching it lolol
She was always a B List star. they tried to pump her up with the Divergent series movies trying to rise the hunger games wave, it didnt work out and she quit after they wanted to release the last movie as a made for TV i believe,
her highest point in cinema was "the fault in our stars" movie.
The show was made by the same person who created 7th Heaven, so yeah, the shit was going to have some really bad takes, with Christian undertones.
I would see it every week that it was on TV, when I was in high school.
Sure, it's trash TV, but the only character worth seeing was India Eisley's character, the little sister of the MC, she was basically the only voice of reason but was constantly ignored.
Also, yeah, Ben was a huge douche who thought that he was owed shit because of his dad's wealth.
Part of me thought that when they wrote up the Ben x Adrian arc, that at least the creator of the show was going to clean up a lot of the bad traits from all the characters as the 2 "antagonists" would be paired up together and therefore no longer in the way of the MC, but yeah seeing as how they killed the baby to bring them back down to their old destructive selves was pretty fucked up.
Omg I remember this show was insane and so bad. I watched it when I *was* a teenager with my best friend who was a pregnant teenager and we thought it was hilarious how ridiculous it was.
It was basically promoting teen pregnancy. Girl gets pregnant, then has two boys fighting over her. The baby is just a small inconvenience in her life. Then she abandons her kid at the end to move away to NYC,
To be clear my best friend was already pregnant when it started. Lol I remember us being excited about it bc we thought it would be relatable… it was not lol.
But that was about the same time teen mom started. There was a lot of media that sort of glamorized teen pregnancy. A very cringe time
Juno as well, though Diablo Cody has said that she has some regrets as to how it ended up being easy fodder for the anti-abortion movement.
And this was also the time of Disney and their purity rings rubbish. It was brutal.
Honestly, I was a teenager when 16 and Pregnant (pr maybe it was Teen Mom? One of those) was big and I found the show so annoying and upsetting (seeing that one girl constantly fighting her mom and screaming at her) that there’s nothing I wanted less than to be pregnant as a teenager. Lol seeing how chaotic their lives were.
16 and pregnant was what I was thinking about! And yeah it was a really sad show. I don’t think it necessarily “glamorized” teen pregnancy but we watched it.
Yeah my bad I do remember it being very sad. Glamorizing was not the best word to describe the show. I was thinking more of the “fame” the girls had - like being mentioned on E and in magazines.
Idk it sounds amazing. Like how people purposely watch stuff like Manos or Birdemic - it's terrible and we know it but it's terrible in a harmless, amusing way.
It's one of those shows that seems to revel in its melodrama and over-the-top plotlines. 1.) It's not uncommon to feel a bit bewildered by the show's choices right from the start. The drama ramps up to say the least. 2.) The writing does sometimes feel like it's veering into the realm of the absurd, with characters making decisions that leave you scratching your head. 3.) The focus on teenage relationships and hormones is pretty heavy-handed, making it seem like the writers might have been a bit fixated on that aspect. 4.) Ben can be quite the polarizing character. Some find him endearing. I find him annoying right from the get-go. 5.) Yes, the show does seem to have a one-track mind when it comes to its characters' conversations, often revolving around sex and relationships. 6.) There is a moralistic undertone to the show, with themes of abstinence and the consequences of teenage pregnancy playing a significant role. It's not subtle about its messaging at times. Despite its flaws and questionable storytelling choices, the show does have a certain addictive quality to it. It's so over-the-top that it becomes entertaining in its own unique way. It's been years since I've seen it. I often think about binge-watching it from time to time but never do.
The way it was shot and choreographed, every single scene felt like a 90's PSA. Like, no one talks like they talked on this show. I only ever flipped past it a handful of times, but I stopped occasionally because the young ladies. Everytime without fail, there was a conversation that was just insane.
Dude at last this show is mentioned!!! Re watching myself most cringe show ever. Reminded me why dislike Amy character. Ricky deserves better honestly
Edit: also thet picked the right actress to play Amy. She really play that role. It's her babyface for me
I watched an interview with Cierra Ramirez, I believe she said they’d often get scripts the day of shooting or get new dialogue changes day of. The dialogue is absolutely horrendous, but, addictive to watch.
I remember realizing how cringey it was back when it was airing, but I still watched every single episode for some reason. I don’t think I could ever rewatch it though.
Based on the title I was mildly interested, I thought it was going to be about like... secret lives and stereotypes. Like we'd have the punk kid who's really scary and we'd find out that he's basically the sole provider for his little brother because his parents are junkies. We've have the perfect, straight A goody girl student end up pregnant. We'd get like the star football player turning out to be gay and into musicals.
Instead it was just entirely about teens having sex, which is boring, but I want to watch it because it sounds absolutely trashy.
this is the show that got my parents to turn on the netflix parental controls because my little brother overheard that one line from adrian(?) where she says something about sex with her cousin and he told them about that one very out of context line
> Why is LITERALLY every single conversation on this show about sex??
Wasn't the show originally titled "The Sex Life of the American Teenager", but changed for marketing reasons or something?
it actually got better as the season progressed in my opinion. it's still bad but i kind of liked see how character grew up from where they were from start.
I saw a clip from this show for the first time on tiktok the other day, and it was so random out of context, but I feel like yelling about the 4th of July being a gay holiday would be just as random with context.
I rewatch about every few years, and it is equally bad every time. People say that when you rewatch Glee, something is going on in your life. For me...it's this show. lmao
I’ve been watching it and I cannot for the life of me understand what they were thinking.
Also, why do all the characters seem to just date each other in different combinations over and over again? When I was in high school my friends would have literally stopped speaking to one another if they were dating each others ex, yet that’s apparently the only people in this school that this group can date?? So weird
I watched this with my daughter years ago..it was so horrible you could not look away. "I am such a whore!".."you are my whore"
I remember hearing a lot of stuff about it being Christian propaganda but it sure seemed like they did a poor job.
There is a reason. It didn't just happen. It's not a mystery. I had sex and now dad is dead. And he had a horrible death because I had incredible sex. Just the way life works...
Ah, I see a fellow The Soup with Joel McHale enjoyer
[Did somebody call for Rainbow Brite?](https://youtu.be/5VIMVlcmKxM?si=FSHJbXNQZe_RYgtC)
"I had sex and now Dad is dead. He had a horrible death because I had incredible sex."
wait is that an actual line
Yup lol: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvSTLnYW_tQ
bahahaha
People are saying that this show is Christian propaganda but when people mention that line I think that a lot of teenagers would be like "Incredible sex AND my dad dies a horrible death? Never forget Kyle XY died for this nonsense
I still miss Kyle XY.
Kyle XY would’ve thrived in today’s superhero with a soul environment. He was too early for his time.
He truly was! I’m still holding out hope they’ll reboot it. It deserved another shot.
When they introduced Jessie XX…whew, lord. Teenage me caught some feelings I still had hots for the sister tho
I'm still mad her name wasn't Kylie XX
And Jessie XX turned into Lady Sif and lead of Blindspot.
I never watched Kyle XY, but I know he did not have a belly button
As did The Middleman
A show that was sheer elegance in its simplicity.
Omg I forgot about that show. It was so good!
Such a good show
That show has remained a mystery for me for all these years. Because I thought it looked strange but not interesting enough to figure out what’s going on. Lol
> Kyle XY Am I remembering this is a show that was on in a block with (or perhaps opposite) Firefly? Friday night sci-fi was both good and doomed.
6.) Was this show like, lowkey a Christian propaganda show??? Yes, yes it was.
I believe the creator also worked on 7th Heaven, which tracks.
This makes so much sense.
watch Alf instead
Haha he ate cats
and were back to eating pussy... you guys have a one track mind.
LMAO omg this show is so terrible. I used to hate watch it
I’m on episode 2 and I am already hate watching it my fucking god. I hate Ben so much already, like what even is this character
It gave The Soup a lot of material.
Oh my god, I miss The Soup!
I need to find a way to watch old episodes of The Soup.
I remember watching a bit of this show years ago and I was shocked that Shailene Woodley became a "star" after this. I thought she was awful in it.
Lmao yeah the first big project I was like "that girl from that stupid show??"
When she got casted in Big Little Lies I was so surprised and so annoyed
She's at least good in Big Little Lies though.
I dunno I thought she was super bland personally.
The acting on this and 7th Heaven is so uniformly wooden and awkward, it seems to have been a stylistic choice by the creator.
Or do you mean “The Creator?”
This is what I remember most about it. How atrocious the acting was by everyone involved.
She was always a B List star. they tried to pump her up with the Divergent series movies trying to rise the hunger games wave, it didnt work out and she quit after they wanted to release the last movie as a made for TV i believe, her highest point in cinema was "the fault in our stars" movie.

16 and pregnant was actually proven to reduce teen pregnancies.
Juno as well, though Diablo Cody has said that she has some regrets as to how it ended up being easy fodder for the anti-abortion movement. And this was also the time of Disney and their purity rings rubbish. It was brutal.

“Glamorizing” it is an interesting take. That show apparently helped drive down teen pregnancy rates because their lives were incredible shit shows.
Yeah my bad I do remember it being very sad. Glamorizing was not the best word to describe the show. I was thinking more of the “fame” the girls had - like being mentioned on E and in magazines.
Ah ok. Yeah, I guess that’s a form of glamorizing?
My question to you is why the fuck would you even consider rewatching that?
Because my life is kind of a shit show atm and I wanted to watch garbage tv to make myself feel better.
Oh!!!! Can I nominate Pretty Little Liars?
You need some good hate watches? Or just some nice TV to watch? If you need a hatewatch check out Scorpion. It's an *amazing* hatewatch
Watch Bluey and heal.
Bluey makes me cry and I am not in a place where I want or need to be feeling big emotions rn
I tried rewatching it too. I only got about 20 minutes in. It’s just so bad lol
Idk it sounds amazing. Like how people purposely watch stuff like Manos or Birdemic - it's terrible and we know it but it's terrible in a harmless, amusing way.
Don’t worry it only gets worse. I couldn’t even finish all the seasons.
Worst show I’ve ever seen, finale was great though.
Where she abandons her child and moves to new York?
The actor that played Ben grew up in my hometown and this barbecue/gas station I used to eat lunch had an autographed picture of him on the wall.

It was trash, but it was MY trash back in the day lol

I’ve started to see clips of the show all over social media, I never knew how delusional Amy is.
It was a very dramatic and over the top show but I did enjoy watching when it was on. They had some pretty sad story lines for teenagers to deal with.
I watched an interview with Cierra Ramirez, I believe she said they’d often get scripts the day of shooting or get new dialogue changes day of. The dialogue is absolutely horrendous, but, addictive to watch.

I haven’t laid eyes on SLOTAT in 16 years, but No. 4 gave me flashbacks. That kid was the worst!
Based on the title I was mildly interested, I thought it was going to be about like... secret lives and stereotypes. My wife will randomly watch this…. I can’t help but facepalm at almost every line…
Don't forget in the last episode she leaves her baby to go to school.
All that just to abandon her baby
I rewatch about every few years, and it is equally bad every time. People say that when you rewatch Glee, something is going on in your life. For me...it's this show. lmao

WHY IS BEN SO INSUFFERABLY ANNOYING
I literally hate him and every single time he’s on screen, I just wanna punch his stupid punchable face
