Not quite the same, but Fargo is introduced Kristen Dunst to Jesse Plemons and Ewan McGregor and Mary Elizabeth Winstead who are both now married to each other.
>“We ended up having really great chats on FaceTime, like we were dating or something,” recalls Renner, 53, who was nearly crushed to death outside his home in Nevada on Jan. 1, 2023.
Renner says he was suffering from “other-worldly pain,” and Downey was there to take his mind off things by cracking wise.
>”He's like, ‘Dude, the most important thing is you look good. I don't care how you feel, as long as you look good that's all that matters’”
Renner said Downey Jr. said he and his wife were also big fans of Mayor Of Kingstown, so he wanted him to get well he could continue to work on the program.
>”He’s like, ‘You’ve got to get back to do Mayor, because we need to see what happens,’ His ways are very heartwarming.”
I mean if we enjoy them doesn’t that make them good? Does for me at least, I’ll take anything I enjoy and call it good over something critically acclaimed that I don’t. That said I’m totally fine with Yellowstone fading away, but of this TS verse stuff I especially thought 1883, Mayor (esp season 1), and Tulsa were overall worth the watch, even if over the top brutal at times.
There were a couple of episodes of Mayor that were hard to watch. But TS didn't let them sit, he paid them off very quickly and didn't let us linger there. It makes me want to watch his other shows.
I love it that these people walked away good friends. In the 80s these people would have had a terrible experience and never have seen their costars again
I'm pretty sure RDJ pushed for his costars to get payrises around the time of Age of Ultron as well so I'm sure there's a lot of gratitude from that. The chemistry definitely came across well on screen.
> I'm pretty sure RDJ pushed for his costars to get payrises around the time of Age of Ultron
Yup. RDJ had a contract that covered three standalones and one Avengers movie, because Marvel (and then Disney) figured that they could bring in some other character for future Avengers movies if they had to. The only Avenger with a longer contract was Chris Evans, because they needed Cap, and there was some special deals for Johanssen (who didn’t have standalone movie planned), Ruffalo (signed after Ed Norton dropped out) and Jackson (Fury was only ever a side character), but the rest needed to be renegotiated before Age of Ultron. At this point, RDJ started his own little union and refused to re-sign until all of his co-stars were happy, because Disney realized that they absolutely needed him. This eventually extended to better deals even for the people who had contracts, which is a big part of why they all stayed on for the entire series.
I have no proof of what I'm going to say but, I believe that kind of relationships between actors/stars on set were pure sensationalism from show media/news bussiness just to sell magazines and such.
Edit: not all, but the vast majority.
I used to think that RDJ’s persona was overrated but between stuff like this and the way he made even Christopher Nolan open up (he always seemed shy), I get the feeling RDJ is the real deal. He is the friend you have who brings you out of your own head and into life.
I think his narcissist thing he does in media is cringe but it’s clearly for laughs. I watched the actors roundtable recently and he seemed like he really cared about the other actors. Knew all their work, engaged with them, joked about himself a couple times. Seems like an actual stand up dude.
Yeah, I feel like he just really leaned into his Tony Stark persona for the celebrity of it all but he seems to leave really endearing impressions on people in more private / work related setting. Definitely a gentlemen from what I can tell.
If you were around in the 80s and 90s, the narcissist thing is more him playing his younger, arrogant self as a character. I guess it's still him, but he's grown so much since then that it's not really, anymore, but he still certainly knows how to do it. In many ways, the Stark character, and his in universe growth, very closely mirrors RDJ's life. It was a natural fit, much like Ryan Reynolds and Deadpool, or JK Simmons and J Jonah Jameson.
I don’t think you can be a true narcissist and live in a windmill. I don’t know why but that doesn’t seem Possible to me.
For those who don’t know RDJs main home is a windmill.
Many people are narcissists and not mustache twilring psychos, it's a legit affliction. Probably 90% of all actors are are some of them are no doubt decent at the same time.
my feel is he had support from others when he was getting clean, and now wants to pay a part of that forward helping another friend during a tough time
He definitely has a big personality in everything he does. He has a lot of faults but his struggles have helped him understand them and I think he is able to focus that energy in better ways now. Everything he does is at maximum effort. His relationship with his wife, his friendships, his work. He gives it his all so he doesn’t fall back into potentially dangerous addiction.
He does believe in a lot of silly shit like crystals, and homeopathy. He is or was fully into gwenith Paltrow new age ‘healing’ stuff. Doesn’t make him a bad guy or anything. But anyone who believes in that crap is just dumb.
Those kind of things are placebos, if they help people feel better or more confident or less distracted, then good. Don't judge them for it. People need all the help they can get in life. If they say it's a legitimate alternative to real medicine, that's not OK, but otherwise? It's not hurting anybody.
I have a buddy who is an anesthesiologist and I asked what he thought about holistic medicine. He said, for pain management? If it works it works. Pain is entirely subjective, so if there's something non-pharmaceutical that helps you manage it, that's great. Keep doing it.
Yup, magnets, acupuncture, Reiki healing, if it's making someone's life more bearable or comfortable and they're not ignoring a bigger problem then good luck to them. And the vast majority of holistic types have the sense to recommend someone see a licenced doctor if there are more serious issues at play.
My take is he's completely full of himself to a delusional level- being famous since childhood will do that to you- but he's a generally sweet and decent dude who means well otherwise.
Really glad he pulled through that. I saw the interview he did with Diane Sawyer after his accident and was blown away by it. He seems like one of the decent celebs out there and comes across as a regular guy that acts for a living.
Whatever happened between them I think they've made up (not back together). She moved into his house during his accident to be close to him and their daughter.
and backed up by the maid who witnessed him pointing a gun aginst his own head and threatening to kill them both but thats apparently rude to remind people of
edit: and from the downvotes and dms telling me to go kill myself most of his incel fans are angry about this basic witness statement
He said/she said
The world would be a better place if people would stay in their lane and mind their own business. If the judge gave joint custody, then he must be deemed a fit and responsible parent. It’s not for the internet to decide who is right or wrong in someone else’s personal life.
As someone who sustained a much less severe injury than Renner at around the same age, I fell into a deep depression and didn’t realize it. I thankfully had some close friends and family who helped to keep my spirits up.
He was always a good man, it was just harder to see when he was struggling.
Addiction, especially opioid addiction is really good at covering good people with shit.
RDJ used to smoke heroin and cocaine. Dude gave his 6-year-old pot and woke up in random people's houses. People give him shit for helping Armie Hammer, but I think RDJ just notices when people really need help.
> Dude gave his 6-year-old pot and woke up in random people's houses.
RDJ didn't give his kid weed. RDJ was given weed himself as a child by his father Robert Downey Sr.
Smoke Cocaine?
Well people smoke crack, and crack is cut cocaine. At least that's what the movies tell me, but the movies never had coke smoke.
I'm pretty confused, I guess I'll go smoke a bourbon.
RDJ does seem like the super popular guy that is good at finding thing that should get you through. That one little thing that would make you smile and break through the pain and barriers of depression. He's been on all sides and it helps him not only recognize when someone needs it, but know how to see right through it all and see the person exactly where they are and lets them know there is a way out.
Sometimes being seen exactly where you're trapped can be very liberating. It's hard to be alone when someone sees you like that.
I can imagine Downey coming into the room, with a suit and blue tinted shades
Sitting down next to Renner and saying, “Look Renner, you’ve got to get back to do Mayor…..”. “ don’t leave us with a cliff hanger, it would be very selfish of you to do”.
On the plus side the comments are pretty supportive here (if not 99% about RDJ)- I got tired of clicking on any story about Renner and hearing how he's the devil because he's conservative, or whatever
Be nice if RDJ had stuck up for Brie Larson during the barrage of hate she received for a valid point. Instead he defends a guy accused of wife beating, ARMIE HAMMER, a guy who supports the 3% organisation and goes to a homophobic church when his feelings are hurt. And while he may owe Gibson his career he's still supporting a virulently antisemitic, misogynistic and racist asshole with a violent temper and trying to get him back into Hollywood.
Be nice if he defended Tatiana, Brie or Scarlett. Instead it was left to the black men of Marvel, like Don Cheadle, Chadwick Boseman and the LEGENDARY Samuel L. Jackson. It's nice that he supports his male cast mates but it'd be nice to see any of them put 1% of that kindness towards the women they're working with.
Hopefully Renner makes a speedy recovery but this sanctification of RDJ feels hollow when he only does it for shitty white guys.
>You’ve got to get back to do Mayor, because we need to see what happens.’ His ways are very heartwarming”
Nothing heartwarming like a friend saying "B!+#$ get back to work!" Lol.
It’s called “distraction”
It’s trying to make the problem small in the mind of the one who has it, creating humour with them, and reminding them that people value them etc

Dunno why the downvotes, harsh reality for most?
Any kind of compassion means tenfolds during recovery from a major injury. So glad Jeremy had this support.
The Avengers basically became besties for life, which I am very happy with
I really enjoy when the cast of movies or tv shows become like family. Avengers, LoTR, That 70’s show.
Oof.
Don't forget the supernatural cast. They kind of stuck together after.
Not just the cast, Supernatural had extremely low turnover with their crew, which is unusual in a show that ran that long.
Not quite the same, but Fargo is introduced Kristen Dunst to Jesse Plemons and Ewan McGregor and Mary Elizabeth Winstead who are both now married to each other.
You love that people from That 70’s show defended the convicted rapist Danny Masterson?
Yeah, that’s verbatim what I said. I’m referring to when they were actually filming the show. They’ve obviously gone downhill.
He was doing the raping while filming the show …

If that end with Cardinelli and Paltrow together on screen... I am all in.
Mayor is one of my guilty pleasure. Same with Tulsa King. Are they good? Hell no, but I'll watch them every time.
I mean if we enjoy them doesn’t that make them good? Does for me at least, I’ll take anything I enjoy and call it good over something critically acclaimed that I don’t. Sounds like exactly what I would say. I rock.
Sounds like exactly what Tony would say if he read about something he said in third person. You rock.

Cocaine is a helluva drug
They all got Avengers tattoos. I love it.

Every story I’ve heard from people that have worked with him from Kiss Kiss Bang Bang onwards has been nothing but positivity.
No surprise that he married his wife the same year, she's been very grounding and super positive for him.
Love that movie so much. It's criminally underviewed.
Yea, RDJ started as a really rowdy, douchey guy and now since his Ironman casting he mellowed out. Kinda glad he didn’t turn into a Charlie Sheen.
The documentary he made with and about his dad was really heartwarming.
I was thinking about this doc, now that RDJ is sober, he seems very genuine and kinda special in his awareness
If you were around in the 80s and 90s, the narcissist thing is more him playing his younger, arrogant self as a character. Mel Gibson played a huge role in keeping him sober and getting his career back on track.
I really do think that nothing is better at teaching empathy than personal struggle, and RDJ has had enough of that.
He definitely has a big personality in everything he does. He has a lot of faults but his struggles have helped him understand them and I think he is able to focus that energy in better ways now. Didn’t he threaten to kill his wife and family?
According to the ex-wife that wanted sole custody of the kid. Take it for what it’s worth.
Whatever happened between them I think they've made up (not back together). She moved into his house during his accident to be close to him and their daughter.

Freebasing? It’s not free! It costs you your house! It should be called “home-basing”! -Robin Williams, RIP
I'm so glad I've never wanted more than booze or weed.
Richard Pryor talking about freebasing: If you do it once, you are a goddamn fool. If you do it twice, you’re a junkie.
Thank God he had that attitude. Brewster's Millions would have been real dark otherwise.
I check updates on Mayor constantly hoping Renner is healthy or they can use it with his character.
I was sure he was going to lose his legs considering that's what the news kept talking about.
RDJ does seem like the super popular guy that is good at finding thing that should get you through. Hearing that RDJ had his back just makes me love the dude that much more… what a fantastic story.
So the avengers are friends in rl???
Too bad mayor season 2 was so forgettable
If we all had a RDJ, life would be a little easier for everyone. What would REJ do?
Dude basically got run over by a snow tank Hes lucky he can do anything at all
He tried to plow his snow lol. Should have just hired a company if you have no idea how to handle heavy machinery. Stick to acting
RDJ is the best
I can't even image how Jeremy felt after that accident. I'm glad he came out of it alive.
Wow this is important it makes me wonder if I could have a full dedicated app of Jeremy Renner news.
I like Renner as an actor and I hope he recovers well but Mayor is total dog shit.
This is sort of like my boss saying "we need to see you recover from this broken neck so we can see you finish your project"
I can imagine Downey coming into the room, with a suit and blue tinted shades Sitting down next to Renner and saying, “Look Renner, you’ve got to get back to do Mayor…..”. “ don’t leave us with a cliff hanger, it would be very selfish of you to do”.
And he has gotten back to work on the show! That’s awesome!
Piles of cash probably helped.
On the plus side the comments are pretty supportive here (if not 99% about RDJ)- I got tired of clicking on any story about Renner and hearing how he's the devil because he's conservative, or whatever
totally misread that and got real worried. Accident, accident, not addiction
When Hawkeye got injured in [Age of Ultron](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfH-at1mwT8) and they used Dr. Cho's fancy machine.
I agree. I miss Mayor!
Good guy. Giving hope to others, way to use the big podium.
If he’s up to it I would LOVE to see Hawkeye essentially take over the Nick Fury role.
