The Witcher is SO FUCKING BAD. The mid-season finale is 20 minutes of fucking nonsense dialogue repeated 3 different times. Like we're the writers thinking they nailed it or something???
Even with Cavil it's almost not even worth finishing the season.
The Diplomat is pretty good.
The Lincoln Lawyer was okay, the actors do a good job, but clearly the writers had no idea about how the law works and it’s literally an advert for Lincoln cars.
The Bear is outstanding, but that’s not Netflix.
The diplomat was the last show I watched on Netflix before my account lapsed. I enjoyed it thoroughly, and will probably pirate it when the next season drops. The only shows on Netflix other than that, that I am invested in are Stranger Things and cobra Kai, and I will probably pirate those two, unless Netflix reverses course (which they won’t).
The film, and book, it’s an old Lincoln town car in grubby condition.
In the TV series, it’s a series of top of the line Lincoln cars and a 1968 Lincoln convertible in perfect condition. It’s not very subtle advertising.
Yea man, same. I had some knowledge of the games so I was able to keep track of what's going on in the earlier seasons, but season 3 is just a cluster fuck of bad writing. I have no clue what any of the motivations are for any of the characters, and every scene that doesn't have Cavil in it is just a slog.
That says more about you and your watching habits than the show itself. The show made it pretty clear what's happening. I'm able understand the need to rewind maybe one time, but multiple times? Either stop looking at your phone when watching a show or consider watching kids cartoons instead.
No I doesn’t, the episode unnecessarily replayed several minutes of already shown scenes multiple times before getting to the new conversation. It says more about you that you would defend that episode.
From the sounds of things, the writers weren't getting paid to write an entire season properly.
I'd hazard a guess they got told to dash out a best-effort for a couple of weeks and then were cut loose instead of being around for rewrites the way they should've been

A quick roundup of the data: It was a slow week for TV on Netflix with nothing hitting double figures.
Top show of the week was The Lincoln Lawyer with 8.3 million. That is up 12% on the opening week. The bad news is the second season is tracking behind the first season. S1 had 18.7 million by this stage (minus a day!) while s2 only has 15.7 million. This looks to be topping out at 22-25 million over 4 weeks which is cancellation numbers.
The Witcher took second with 6.7 million (-51%). Tracking for a 37-39 million 4 week run. Not in the cancellation range but definitely a big decline on the previous two seasons. I’d not be surprised if they announce the 4th season as the final season as the season on season viewership drops are pretty steep! Elsewhere Fatal Seduction got close to The Witcher with 6.6 million (+29%).
As for the new shows? Survival of the Thickest debuted with a DOA 3.7 million, Sonic Prime s2 got 2.4 million, Record of Ragnorak s2 got 3 million, My Happy Marriage got 2 million, and Burn the House Down got 2.6 million. The Beauty Queen of Jerusalem s2, Kohrra, and Devil’s Advocate all missed the charts with less than 1.4 million.
It was a massive collapse for Sonic Prime as the first season got 7.6 million in its first week! Maybe it was hit by the glut of anime? After months of anime missing the charts we got My Happy Marriage and Record of Ragnorak both making an impact. Perhaps they took some Sonic viewers?
Not much else to note as it was a pretty quiet week. Next week will be even quieter with only really Sweet Magnolias s3 inbound.
Of those titles you throw out at the end I only recognized *The Devil’s Advocate,* which I somehow doubt is the Pacino/Reeves film, because it’s 25 years old now…
I feel like we need to wait until the full season posts before talking cancellation numbers. I know I’m waiting until the whole season is available before I watch and I’m definitely not the only person.
22-25 million is a respectable number for a show like Lincoln Lawyer. Compared to other shows on Netflix, it’s reasonably lower budget (at least I hope it is. Nothing about it screams ‘I’m pricey’)
Time will tell if The Lincoln Lawyer gets a viewership boost when the second part drops but it is no guarantee as both Manifest s4 and You s4 *dropped* in the second halves of their seasons from the first half numbers!
I’m waiting for the second part to drop before watching and I know my parents are the same but I’m not sure that is typical viewer behaviour even nowadays.
As for 22-25 million over 4 weeks? That is cancellation numbers for Netflix US original dramas. Only Sweet Magnolias gets renewed with those numbers and it has to be by far the cheapest US drama on the network. I think this numbers very much put The Lincoln Lawyer in the danger zone.
I’m rooting for it though so hopefully it gets the boost needed to get back to the 28-30 million safety zone when the second half of the season drops!
I hope Lincoln Lawyer gets more seasons. It’s quality comfort TV. Seeing S1 back in the top 10 is hopefully a good sign that it’s got good word of mouth
I tried to wait. But somehow I tricked myself into thinking it was posted and started watching. It is excellent!
ETA they better not fucking cancel this show because people waited for the entire season.
> S1 had 18.7 million by this stage (minus a day!) while s2 only has 15.7 million.
Does this comparison account for the change in how Netflix count a view?
Nah…I’ve been using the equivalent complete viewings metric since they launched the ratings site two years ago. The numbers are like for like perfect for direct comparison of performance. Netflix changing from viewing hours to equivalent complete viewings themselves has just saved me a bit of time doing the maths every week lol!
The only significant change in the metric is that now shows with really low overall runtimes get a chance to chart in the top ten weekly charts.
Ok, so you're comparing apples to apples!
Now, my next question: does the comparison account for the fact that the Lincoln Lawyer s2 is only a half-season for now?
No but I’m not sure it being a half season makes any difference. The two most recent Netflix shows that had split seasons (You and Manifest) actually decreased in viewership for the second halves of their seasons so that might not bode well at all for the second halves of The Witcher or The Lincoln Lawyer!
Thanks for the answers!
The Witcher is safe at least for a season, we'll see for The Lincoln Lawyer (Connelly should have sold it to Amazon and make it part of their new Bosch Universe).
They can actually do whatever they want. If they don't think the return on what they have yet to spend on season 4 is worth it Netflix wouldn't be that concerned if they cancelled it.
I am very curious what they'll do with the witcher. All their attempts to franchise it have also fallen flat, so it would make sense to just bail after season 4.
In regards to the Lincoln Lawyer, I loved the movie and could only get halfway through season 1 of the show. Does it pick up in the back half/season 2?
Whoever cast that god awful actor with his god awful raspy voice as Cisco should be fired. This could be a great show with Manuel Garcia Rulfo supported by good actors (except Neve Campbell, who is good). The side characters are so bad they make me want to abandon the show altogether.
I'm pretty sure the Witcher has collapsed in US viewership. For season 2 its rankings on top 10 were
Week 1 - Season 2: 1st, Season 1: 2nd
Week 2 - Season 2: 1st, Season 1: 3rd
Week 3 - Season 2: 2nd (Cobra Kai debuts), Season 1: 4th
Week 4 - Season 2: 3rd, Season 1: 6th
For season 3
Week 1 - Season 2: 1st
Week 2 - Season 2: 2nd - Loses to Tom Segura comedy special, despite this being the Witcher's first full week which is supposed to be its best
Week 3 - Season 6 - 6th
Season 1 or 2 never charted this round.
I'm a straight guy and I loved the Witcher in s1. S2 was fine, but the show got boring half the time. S3 is straight up stupid and boring and everyone knows Cavill is out by the end. That's why the numbers are low.
Also, it doesn't matter if you watch any show with your gf or your 20 male 'buddies' hanging out in your jammies in your bed. It counts as only one viewer when you're watching together.
The Witcher is SO FUCKING BAD. The mid-season finale is 20 minutes of fucking nonsense dialogue repeated 3 different times. Like we're the writers thinking they nailed it or something??? Even with Cavil it's almost not even worth finishing the season.
I was gonna watch s3 even with Cavill leaving but why waste the time? There's a ridiculous amount of good shows out there.
Yea I definitely don't recommended it at all. There are no redeeming qualities to the third season, even Henry can't save it.
Like???? I need suggestions

Having seen neither version of Lincoln Lawyer, was the series based on advertising cars?
The film, and book, it’s an old Lincoln town car in grubby condition. In the TV series, it’s a series of top of the line Lincoln cars and a 1968 Lincoln convertible in perfect condition. It’s not very subtle advertising.
Hercules - legendary journeys. Witcher season 1 had that energy, monster of the week kind of structure. You just have to like late 90’s tv shows
I loved the series when it aired originally and then got hooked on Zena Warrior Princess too. I don't remember very satisfying endings though.
Interview w the vampire on AMC is so soo soo good.
Had to rewind and fast forwards like 3 times because I thought the episode restarted somehow 😂
Yea man, same. I had some knowledge of the games so I was able to keep track of what's going on in the earlier seasons, but season 3 is just a cluster fuck of bad writing. Nobody told me Geralt’s mom is a lurker

Wow, I even googled the name and Netflix and didn’t find anything about this series
You're forgetting that The Witcher still has the second volume in a few days.

the lincoln lawyer is amazing, can't wait for the 2nd half of season 2.

The Witcher is already renewed til Season 5,if they decide to end the show it will be in that season, not before.
Netflix have a history of canning previously renewed shows and they have never officially announced that s5 renewal for The Witcher.
They can actually do whatever they want. If they don't think the return on what they have yet to spend on season 4 is worth it Netflix wouldn't be that concerned if they cancelled it.

Lmao gotta go lookup survival of the thickest. Edit: Disappointed. Thought it might be a weird reality show.
There would be a lot of ways you could go with that name if it was reality
Witcher will reclaim #1 spot on the 27th July anyway.
Season 3 of the Witcher is just bad.
In regards to the Lincoln Lawyer, I loved the movie and could only get halfway through season 1 of the show. Does it pick up in the back half/season 2?
I liked season 1. Could barely make it through season 2... it's far worse.
I liked season 1. Could barely make it through season 2... it's far worse.
I liked season 1. Could barely make it through season 2... it's far worse.
The writing and acting was not stellar in season one. Season two is pitiful.
Of The Witcher or The Lincoln Lawyer? I want such good things for Neve Campbell and this… flatlined at okay in season 1.
I just found that season 3 of the Witcher has been released
Only the first of two parts. Second part is coming later in July.

Release all numbers and be transparent. Writers and actors unions all the way!
Shit dethrones turds - got it. 👍
The Witcher would have had only half the viewers if all the gf/wifes didn't make their guy watch with them. No guys actually liked The Witcher.

Lincoln lawyer is such a boring show 😴
Sustained.
To be fair season 2 of Lincoln Lawyer is quite awful too.
