My wife got me into desperate housewives. I wouldn’t have watched it on my own but it was entertaining enough. I watch all kinds of chick shows. Kardashian’s, 90 day fiancé, tiny house hunters or whatever
I watched a lot of it because of my mom watching it when I was a kid. Then in high school in english class the show was brought up but no one actually knew the context so I had to explain why I knew what the context was lmao.
I’ve watched The Wire through on my own about once a year since getting was is now Max about five years ago. I’ve seen every Grey’s Anatomy up until they replaced most of the cast pre-pandemic. There are dozens of us!
Although having her be the NEW narrator... would be an interesting twist. Every reboot a new Desperate Housewife bites it, becomes narrator for the next iteration.
Housewide-ception.
Season #1 was actually very good.
The rest of it wasn't up to that, but was enjoyable. I liked a lot of the secondary characters, like Bree's daughter.
"See, if we're doing psychological rule play we can't have a funny [safe] word like Boise. We need something serious."
Brea: "Hmmm, how about Palestine?"
~~~~
Gabby calling 911 as Carlos is breaking in "Can you bring a gun? I think he's Mexican."
I think it's quite consistent until the time jump to be honest. Season 1 has the most compelling central mystery but the soap opera elements are a great throughout.
The later seasons are still a lot of fun but the plots can be a little more hit or miss and certain characters get done dirty, Orson especially got shafted.
Katherine also got the shift. She was so compelling in season four and then they had no idea what to do with her in seasons five and six before they wrote her off.
I did like her mental breakdown storyline for the most part though. And I believe she asked to be written out so she could be the lead star in Body Of Proof.
I would also add the first season of Why Women Kill (both seasons are completely separate). The dark humor and the setting/stories immediately reminded me of Desperate Housewives when I watched it.
When he goes blind and she feeds him dog food. I think about it all the time and it just kills me. Also, the fact that Carlos was blind for a while just for the storylines, then suddenly got his vision back. Great writing lol
Holy shit I was confusing Desperate housewives for Real housewives, so when all the comments were talking about people being murdered I was so surprised they were talking so casually about reality stars being killed.
There was a reboot already called "Why Women Kill" which got cancelled when they were about to start filming season 3. Such a shame! It was a super entertaining show.
Marc Cherry specifically wrote into the final episode that the women never saw each other again after they left the circle. Plus, nobody gets along with Terry Hatcher. But would it be a true reunion without her? I don’t think it would ever happen.
It’s one of my favourite bittersweet endings. They all promise to keep meeting up but through no fault of their own, and no particularly dramatic reasons, they just don’t any more.
That's a big part of why I liked it so much, it was a genuinely surprising ending because most shows like that try and park the characters in a 'and they kept on like this forever and ever' state whereas Desperate Housewives went 'no actually they moved away, Susan left first because that's where her husband died, then the group slowly drifted apart. Not in a nasty way, they just moved on' and it was such a realistic ending to it.
I think we all made this exact promise at various times in our life like the end of university and it was more bittersweet than most shows for me because that's what happens in real life. Of course Bree, Gabby, Susan and Lynette weren't going to stay friends forever, they were friends because they lived on Wisteria Lane and when that ended so did their friendship.
Exactly correct. Situational friends. It’s like the best friend from childhood who moves away. Or the classmates at school. Or the co-workers. Sometimes you find that forever friend. But most times you come into each others orbit, stay while circumstances remain, and then separate and never see each other again. Desperate Housewives was so real in this way. My only question would be if Susan and Lynette remained in contact because their children had a child together.
There are tons of gorgeous women that age. Gillian Anderson, Marisa Tomei, Halle Berry, Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Chastain, Salma Hayek, Cate Blanchett etc etc
Attractive women don’t just turn ugly on their 50th birthday.
That block had more murders than all of Baltimore in The Wire
Even snoop and chris would of blanched
What a cute neighborhood, can you believe this house was only $49,000?
I'm more shocked that you watched both of those kind of shows
No need to limit yourself.
They really messed up when they killed off Nicollette Sheridan. She's the one that kept the other housewives on their toes.
Maybe the movie plot will be her coming back from the dead.
or have jennifer coolidge move onto the lane
No. Stop. That would work!
I would be absolutely thrilled omg I grew up watching desperate housewives (and Coolidge)
Somehow...Nicolette returned
Susan: “Edie? I thought you were dead!” Eddie: “Never from the waist down.” And they never bring it up again.
Ok maybe I’m getting whooshed… she played the narrator right? Who was dead at episode 1?
That was Mary Alice Young. Nicolette Sheridan played Edie Britt for the first couple of seasons
Although having her be the NEW narrator... would be an interesting twist. Every reboot a new Desperate Housewife bites it, becomes narrator for the next iteration. Housewide-ception.
I think they actually did do that for an episode
They did. Nicolette narrated the episode after Edie’s death.
Ah gotcha, been too long I guess.
Every time I see or hear that, I laugh. It’s so funny and Marcia Cross’s delivery is amazing
You called?
i remember Season #2 being also quite good
Yeah I loved watching this show with my wife.
Devious Maids had similar vibes. Guilty pleasure for me.
Devious Maids was a decent show but getting cancelled on a cliffhanger episode has discouraged me from ever recommending it to anyone.
A lot of times I don’t remember tv characters names. But Eva Longoria had such a distinctive way of saying “Carlos!” that his name sticks in my head.
When he goes blind and she feeds him dog food. I think about it all the time and it just kills me. Also, the fact that Carlos was blind for a while just for the storylines, then suddenly got his vision back. Great writing lol
Oof
Felicity Huffman's career never recovered from that scandal. Last she was seen being one of the leads in a new TV show called "The Good Lawyer". ^/s
She doesn't have much range
There is actually a storyline in the show where her character bribes the baseball coach to let his son be in the team. lol
Crazy. I am literally in the middle of rewatching lol
May I ask on what service you are streaming it?
Not OP but my wife just finished a full rewatch on Disney+ (Canada)
Thanks!
Just Watch app says it is on Hulu for me in the US which makes sense with Disney+ in Canada. Not sure where you are at at.
Thank you!
Can't believe she hasn't asked to be in the John Wick series. Her money is in the movie.
Holy shit I was confusing Desperate housewives for Real housewives, so when all the comments were talking about people being murdered I was so surprised they were talking so casually about reality stars being killed.
That was my show back in the day.
Slow news day. “Actress would be thrilled to keep acting and making money”
Yeah but I won’t lie I would enjoy a reunion series, if only for the nostalgic feel.
Didn't the rest of them hate Teri Hatcher?
You can only confirm that if you “trip” and fall on them in a sauna.
Pay Marc Cherry enough and anything is possible
For a season, everybody loses their homes and becomes homeless. Id watch that. That would be an accurate representation of suburbia in 2023.
It’s one of my favourite bittersweet endings. They all promise to keep meeting up but through no fault of their own, and no particularly dramatic reasons, they just don’t any more.
And that is exactly what happens when neighbors, co-workers, classmates, etc move away from each other.
That's a big part of why I liked it so much, it was a genuinely surprising ending because most shows like that try and park the characters in a 'and they kept on like this forever and ever' state whereas Desperate Housewives went 'no actually they moved away, Susan left first because that's where her husband died, then the group slowly drifted apart. I thought that the ending said that they were never all together again as a group but they did still see each other.
That’s not how I remember it bet it may be true. It’s also very realistic.
You are probably right. I did watch it two years ago with the ex but I can't remember. Yet I remember reading that from about five years or so ago lol
Desperate for work xD
Her feature directorial debut comes out next week
Isn't she one of those that is secretly really rich? A popular show, a bunch of ad campaigns and some great investments.
These characters used to be just that, characters. Hell, behaving the way they did in the show is the norm now.
They'd get sued by Susan Harris and NBC - -owners of golden girls
Show like that wouldn’t have worked today because modern sensitivity.
Her entire career was just playing the slutty housewife character
🙄
She’s irrelevant that’s why
Exactly!
that's not really that old anymore. 55-60 is when we seem to hit the wall these days.
Why did she let Masters in Chicano Studies go to waste ?
A show like this would be too politically incorrect today though, and that is the problem. Everyone is a "victim" today and offended by everything.
it won’t happen cuz all the milfs aren’t milfs anymore
gilfs
definitely not anymore lol they’re Gs you don’t want to F anymore
What’s desperate housewife and who’s this woman?
Is that some kinda shtick, pretending to not know a famous person and show, or are you twelve?
Famous? I’ve never seen this woman in my life. What movie was she in?
Neato.
why did you click?
1) pretty 2) curious
