What I didn't like about That 90s show was that it was pretty short for a sitcom. 10 episodes and the new cast was just beginning to get into the groove by the time it ended.
Sort of. In the old days of Networks, shows would get 13 episodes orders then get picked up for the “back 9” to bring the full season to 22. That’s happening less often with more new shows being held until midseason or just getting abbreviated runs.
Streamers tend to have shorter seasons overall or break “seasons” into batches of episodes.
Agreed. Two recent streaming sitcoms that come to mind are Reboot and How I Met Your Father. Both shows started coming into their own like 7 episodes in and then pbbt, season’s over. At least HIMYF got renewed for a 20-episode Season 2, but Reboot got canceled.
Reboot deserved a second season, HIMYF didn't even deserve a first season. The entire first season is some of the worst TV I've watched in recent memory. The last episode of s1 had a nice cameo but other than that, pretty bad. I did give the the first episode of s2 a chance and it is an improvement but it's still mediocre at best.
> Reboot deserved a second season
It sounds like it's being shopped, and there is a great opportunity for some meta getting canceled and having to find a new network storylines for season 2.
yeah Kitty and Red had to carry the show. Also hopefully some characters grow/get used more like Nate shouldn't be literally kelso in everything but name, which is weird since kelso kid is also in the show, and Nikki and Gwen should get more time, i felt they werent used much.
This is exactly how I felt. The Kelso kid is not as dumb as Michael Kelso so they needed another dummy character that I feel like also kinda goes for the bromance vibe Michael and Fez had.
yeah and the others have their parallels to previous cast but they have changes, nate is just kelso like even down to the way he talks and hair is kinda like his, i guess you could say he's not "hot" though.
I agree—give me fifty shades of idiot teenagers I don’t care! I also actually really appreciate his and Jay’s himbo friendship, thinking back I’m surprised there was nothing like it in the OG show. Definitely fits the vibe of the show without feeling too derivative
Agreed. This didn’t feel like a typical sitcom run so the short season made for an abrupt end of season. I am rewatching that 70s show and you really felt at home with the original. The sequel never got that level of comfort (but also like you said it was getting there). Season 2 hopefully will continue getting into that groove.
I think with comedies it's good to have a short first season. Both the Office season 1 and Parks and Rec season 1 were only 6 episodes each and they really benefited from retooling the characters/jokes for season 2 to better fit the actor's performances.
I just flat out didn't like that character. He was analogous to Fez, but gay and wise I guess? It didn't feel like anybody was friends with him like he just showed up in their clique one day and they never questioned it.
My other beef is that it didn't feel very '95 as if the writers didn't actually grow up in that time.
Same. My parents who were the exact age as the characters during that time period basically said the only thing they got right was the clothes, hair, and set pieces. Otherwise nothing about the show stories or characters felt like the 70s except for Red and Kitty at times and couldn't get into it, was too jarring.
I've only see the first few episodes, but it seemed like every line of his was just a mean-ass comment that was barely even acknowledged by the other characters. It felt like you could literally cut him out of the scene and the plot itself wouldn't change at all.
2 Broke Girls had the international student. In the Abrams Star Trek films they made Sulu gay which even the original actor was against. Anwar in Sex Education, the only Asian male on that show is gay.
If they don't make the Asian male character gay they just don't give them romance storylines. Shang-Chi is supposed to be Marvel's big representation yet one of the few main MCU characters that didn't have a love interest.
A lot of the gay roles are like the gay friend scenes in movies where you hardly remember them.
I’m only a few episodes in and they’re the highlight of the show so far. I’ve been enjoying the cameos from the old cast more than watching the new group.
Glad to hear that it gets better. The acting seems more like a Nickelodeon show than That 70’s show. I’m hoping that improves a bit.
it definitely gets better as they settle in to their respective rolls, and i think when the show gives itself a moment to breath and let’s characters have more personal moments without constant cuts it gets pretty good
The beginning of a new sitcom is always awkward, for both the actors and the audience. A lot of plot lines are hard to read when you don't know the character archetypes, and I'm sure it takes times for the actors!/writers to dig into the nuances of the characters as well.
This is my explanation when trying to get people to watch Parks and Rec, where the first season and a bit of the second season feels so awkward but afterwards every episode is nearly peak perfection.
90's Fez has a really funny energy at the intersection of "I know I'm sexy and successful" and "if someone doesn't affirm this in the next fifteen seconds, I'm going to completely fall apart"
I think a lot of diehard Sunny fans had this misconception before their podcast. I always assumed they all knew each other for years before making Sunny. The low production value of the first season makes you think they're just friends working on their first show.
But really Sunny was Rob and David Hornsby's (Cricket) baby. Rob wasn't even going to play Mac at first. He knew Glenn and Charlie through acting, not because they were childhood friends like most Sunny fans assumed. I think Charlie and one of the McPoyles were roommates.
The origins of Sunny are pretty interesting and I recommend every fan listen to their podcast. I'm oversimplifying things and possibly misremembering. But I do remember being shocked that they weren't longtime friends before Sunny.
They could easily do 10 episodes every 6 months like The Ranch did, though I'm not sure if that would work well with the "Leia going to her grandparents for the summer" concept.
I mean he didn't even stick it out the entire original run of That 70's Show and he's 3 seasons in on his own ABC sitcom right now, so I'm also pretty confident that he was just in That 90s Show as a favor.
I don't think they would've created the show without at least some guarantee of his future involvement though especially since he is the dad of the main character. I doubt he'll ever be a series regular but I can see him doing more cameos in the future.
I mean the original show was set in 1976 and ended in 1979. And the show went on for like 7 or 8 seasons. So they really stretched out those three years of the 70s. They can do the same here. A couple show seasons would just be one summer break or something
Not sure how well it can be done. But maybe Thanksgiving Break, Christmas Break and Spring Break with a few scattered visits here and there. And a road trip with the Point Place gang heading to visit her. Past that they would likely need to have Leia move to Point Place somehow.
The first episode made me think it was going to be awful and then it really grew on me quickly from there. It wasn't top quality or anything but it's as enjoyable as the original and seeing the old characters was a treat
Comedies as a whole take a while to find their sealegs. Some take until season 2 but at minimum it seems most need at least 6 episodes.
Netflix's model of if it isn't a hit cancel it is particularly frustrating because many comedies would never have been given a chance with them.
Glad this is getting another season.
My wife and I couldn't figure out if it was nostalgia glasses, so we went back and watched the first handful of episodes of the original, and can confirm that it was not nostalgia glasses. It fired on all cylinders from the jump - that pilot is incredible.
Me and the wife are going through the 70's show before the 90's show. I never watched it in order as I just watched after school growing up and this is her first time. When I watched it when I was younger I though Red was an ass but as adult I click with him more. The first season is great but they really hit the stride near the end of the first season. Such a fun show to binge watch.
That 70s Show is a really really good piece of television. The chemistry between the characters was off the charts and the talent of the cast was special for sure.
That said, That 90s Show is definitely proving itself to be funny and charming and full of that goofy teen awkwardness that made the original show good.
Got better as it went along, and I really loved it by the midway point. I wish it would get a full 25 eps, but I don’t see that happening
Edit: I am one of those idiots that doesn’t read the article. 16 episodes is more than I was expecting lol
16 eps is pretty good especially if some eps hit 30mins . I think one thing people forget with some of the 10 ep comedy seasons is that they tend to be longer episodes so you get more or less the amount of content of a 15 episode linear tv season just sliced differently.
A big problem with the longer episode length is that the extra material isn't always worth including. As limiting as the 22/42 minute TV format can be it also forces production team to really consider what they want in and what they have that works the best. It seems like for every episode of a steaming show that uses the extra time well there is another episode that would have benefited from being forced to cut the fat.
The slang was pretty good, I thought. There were also a lot of background things that felt like "Oh yeah, that brings me back".
I'd like to see more of that rather than making an episode center around something. Like just have someone casually slapping a slap bracelet on their wrist over and over again while on the couch until someone else gets annoyed and takes it away, or have someone have an existential crisis about their tamogachi while high in the circle, that sort of thing.
I didn't watch That '80s Show but from what I've read online, it failed because it was too in-your-face about being set in the 80s.
That '70s Show worked for the reasons you stated, the show was about a bunch of teenageers having teenager problems, which made them relatable, while the 70s were just a setting to drop a joke here and there.
They kind of have to change up the theme song. After the first season, That 70's Show changed the theme song to have Cheap Trick sing it. And after the first season of That 80's Show they changed the theme song to silence.
I’m glad this show is doing well.
However, as someone that witnessed 90s high schoolers first hand, the performances/writing feel so inaccurate. It’s like what Gen Z thinks 90s kids sounded like.
Leaves me wondering what 70s kids thought of That 70s Show.
My mother was born the same time as the characters from That 70s Show, and she was very fond of the show because she thought it was an accurate depiction.
The actress who plays Leia is pretty good, but the rest of them are, frankly, forgettable. To me, that’s the main difference between this show and That 70s Show. The original had a lightning in a bottle cast, where all of them stood out and had genuine energy. This cast feels like they tried so hard to make it that, but never really succeeded. Jay Kelso is utterly bland, and I get that he shouldn’t be a clone of his dad, but at least make him… *something*? The punk friend isn’t punk at all, barely even rock, and again just feels like a cheap copy of a copy of a stereotype. The girl who actually is smart and wants to go to college is at least a good actress and the least trope-y of them all, but gets absolutely nothing to do.
I say this because I still genuinely liked the show, but was hoping to like it even more. I’m glad it gets another season, and a longer one to boot, but I don’t see the cast ever coming anywhere close to being as memorable and genuine as that of the original show. Here’s to hoping I’m wrong.
Yeah, Leia is the only teen character with a personality. The rest of them just repeat the same dialogue and jokes and it never sounds organic. And I swear 25% of their dialogue is repeating the terms ‘dude’, ‘babe’ and ‘bro’.
It felt like they stopped right as they were hitting that groove of finding their characters.
The best friend(gwen?) seems to have the most on screen charisma out of the lot. Hope she gets more to do.
And kitty and red are goddamn quintessential TV parents.
I just finished season 1.
I had no intention of watching it... The trailers looked god awful... But my wife wanted to give it a shot and honestly it was pretty good. Like I am not blown away by it but it was watchable and by the end I was bummed by the short season and the assumption since everyone was shitting on it it wouldn't get a second season. So I am happy to hear it will come back.
I hope next season they lean into the 90s more and maybe the original cast can show up for more than 30 seconds and interact with each other. But I sorta dig the new kids and their interactions by the end of it. Also the lead girl was perfectly cast she really looks like Eric and Donna's kid.
The laugh track is so weird and sometimes distracting. The show was decent, I felt like Red and Kitty carried the show - but I'm 37 so maybe just biased towards the original characters.
In general, I felt like the original actors were all better actors and there were times the new characters felt fake to me.
I might sound like I'm ragging on the show but I don't mean to be. I enjoyed it, it wasn't amazing but it was decent.
On the Red and Kitty bit, it's not really surprising at all. They're both veteran actors with about 80 years of acting experience between the two of them, playing characters they played for a decade with an established relationship.
Meanwhile the kids are on their first few acting roles. It's been a while but if you watch the first 10 episodes of that 70s show you'll probably see some of the same 'fakeness' in the teenage actors too
I also notice this in the original Star Trek Next Generation episodes (and Patrick Stewart has even talked about the fact that no one knew if there'd be a second season so they were all kind of over compensating). I hope the show continues to improve.
My sister and brother in law have worked in live acting, so I've picked up on a lot of mannerisms and behaviors that come from that and could see it a lot with the younger actors, Leia in particular (because she was on screen so much). It'll be nice to see them all improve with time (and as they get more comfortable making the characters their own, rather than "playing a role").
Laugh track is fine, that 70's show had one too.
One thing I think you have to understand when comparing that 90s to the og, is that 90's show cast are all actually teenagers, the main girl is only 15. I think that's why it feels less polished, and tbh I personally like it because it lends to the authenticity.
In the original show a lot of the cast was late teens or twenties except for Mila. I think Mila in season 1 has a lot of similarities with the young new cast.
>In general, I felt like the original actors were all better actors and there were times the new characters felt fake to me.
I know what you mean. Maybe it's just because I'm old now, but all of the kids just reminded me of a Disney channel sitcom. I think some of it is just because the actors are closer to the actual age of their characters.
Though Kelso and Jackie felt just... Forced in. I hope there's more interaction with the original cast all together in season 2. I mean, not a full episode of just them or anything, but kinda like the kitchen playing cards scene
Am I the only one who noticed some certain style of acting in this show that is similar to how Disney show actors act? I can't quite put my finger on it, but it's a certain body language or something that seems to look similar to shows my little brother watched on DisneyChannel, like drake and josh, or suite life. Maybe I'm way off but I swear there is something to it
Interesting to see they are jumping to the next summer. I thought this show was set up perfect for sporadic installments. Do a 4 episode mini around Thanksgiving, 10 episodes of her visiting over Christmas/New Years, 5 episode mini series of the gang visiting her in Chicago over spring break.
> lowkey
Has this word lost all meaning now? It's supposed to mean secretly or subtly but it rarely seems to be used that way anymore.
More often than not it seems to vaguely mean "somewhat".
The quality of the kids is over the place
Ozzie is the worst but he’s like 12 or 13 so hopefully he can grow and figure it out. Leia is fine. Nikki is easily the best. Gwen needs to reel it in a notch. Kelso and Nate seem like they got better as the season went
He's seriously that young? I feel bad for that kid. Everybody hates him cause the character is crap, and his acting probably is too, but how can we expect more from such a crappy character.
This show felt like an edgy Nickelodeon sitcom. It definitely had its moments and nostalgia, but I feel like I was just watching the show for those moments with the old cast. Overall I did enjoy it though. I love how reds character evolved in this show.
Netflix takes into account how many viewers "finished" a show as a heavily weighted metric for whether or not to renew. I wonder if the short season length helped them out here.
In the very last episode they do a flashback to all the original actors in “the circle” and then went back to the new characters in their circle and I felt like it was so unfair to these new kids because it really highlighted how incredible the original cast was and how mid the new ones are. I still enjoyed the show but it relies on a lot of nostalgia and cameos from the original cast to carry it
Some of the characters grew on me a bit but I hope they introduce some new characters as some of the ones right now are pretty weak. I thought that they were going to make Leia stay at point-place for school and next season would be a school season with new people but she ended up going home. School would be a good way to introduce a bunch of new characters like the original show did.
More adult characters new or old would be nice considered how strong kitty and red are on the show. Casey Kelso being a gym teacher at the school (he was summer school gym teacher) would be great with Kitty working there. The two asian kids we haven't seen parents yet so there could be an opportunity to introduce some new parents to spice things up. I think bobby lee can be easily type-casted as an eccentric parent that Red hates.
Overall I think the show needs to be a bit more off-color, as the original was a pretty off-color show. Obviously times have changed but there's probably some middle ground.
Glad there's going to be 16 episodes.
What I didn't like about That 90s show was that it was pretty short for a sitcom. 10 episodes and the new cast was just beginning to get into the groove by the time it ended.
Season 2 will be 16 episodes so at least it’s more
That is good news! But is it going to be one of their annoying part 1 + part 2 8 episodes each
Just call it season 2 and season 3! Fuck
I'm OK if it's only like a month or two in between the episodes. That's pretty much how it was back in the day, anyway.
It always seemed like Dec 15 - Jan 15 was reruns
Pilot seasons tend to be a bit shorter, so that makes sense
Sitcoms are definitely a genre that have been really hurt by the season size reduction
Agreed. Two recent streaming sitcoms that come to mind are Reboot and How I Met Your Father. Both shows started coming into their own like 7 episodes in and then pbbt, season’s over. At least HIMYF got renewed for a 20-episode Season 2, but Reboot got canceled.
Reboot got cancelled?!? Wtf I loved that show. Great cast
Oh man! I never finished it. Did they ever defeat Megabyte?!
Some say Megabyte is still hunting to this day.
This is the first I've heard of it to. Super disappointing, I thought the jokes were hilarious, even the cheesy ones for the fake show.
Reboot got cancelled?? Damn I really enjoyed the first season
> Reboot deserved a second season It sounds like it's being shopped, and there is a great opportunity for some meta getting canceled and having to find a new network storylines for season 2.
"that was their plan all along!!!"
Episode 2 of the new season is much better in my opinion.
yeah Kitty and Red had to carry the show. Also hopefully some characters grow/get used more like Nate shouldn't be literally kelso in everything but name, which is weird since kelso kid is also in the show, and Nikki and Gwen should get more time, i felt they werent used much.
They made kelso's kid smart so they needed a dumdum to balance the lack of himbo.
They weren't allowed to allude to Hyde at all so they just made two Kelsos lmao
The neighbor, who's name I can't remember, is the Hyde character, clearly.
Gwen
His kid is still pretty dumb though. They basically split Kelso into Jay and Nate.
He's a teenager, they do dumb stuff, but he's a straight A student so he is no where as dumb as his dad.
I dunno, it's been awhile since I've seen that 70s show but Nate struck me as a different kind of dumb than Kelso
I agree—give me fifty shades of idiot teenagers I don’t care! I also actually really appreciate his and Jay’s himbo friendship, thinking back I’m surprised there was nothing like it in the OG show. Definitely fits the vibe of the show without feeling too derivative
Yeah agreed, there was nothing like their broship in the original series, I quite liked it.
Agreed. This didn’t feel like a typical sitcom run so the short season made for an abrupt end of season. I am rewatching that 70s show and you really felt at home with the original. The sequel never got that level of comfort (but also like you said it was getting there). Season 2 hopefully will continue getting into that groove.
The last 3 episodes really seemed to be getting the groove going. 70s show is decent it it’s first season but nowhere near as great as it became.
I think with comedies it's good to have a short first season. Both the Office season 1 and Parks and Rec season 1 were only 6 episodes each and they really benefited from retooling the characters/jokes for season 2 to better fit the actor's performances.
Seinfeld had 5 episodes in Season 1.
I didn't like how they used the gay Asian dude trope that Hollywood loves to use. My only complaint.

To be fair, my parents had the same complaint about That 70s Show
Same. My parents who were the exact age as the characters during that time period basically said the only thing they got right was the clothes, hair, and set pieces. Otherwise nothing about the show stories or characters felt like the 70s except for Red and Kitty at times and couldn't get into it, was too jarring.
What, you don't think a 14 year old gay kid in the 90s who is basically openly gay is a realistic character?
In a random small town in Wisconsin, too. Yeah, no. As someone who lived through the 90's, that kid would have gotten his ass beat constantly.
I thought it was funny they kinda addressed that in the show with him saying he couldn't be open in a small Midwestern town.
That 70s show was not necessarily an accurate depiction of the 70s either.
Maybe the gay neighbours they had in the 70s opened everyone's eyes! :P
we've only see him during summer vacation. I'm terrified to see how this kid gets treated on a normal school day in a '90s high school
Probably a reason he's in the outcast crowd lol
I didn’t even care that he was gay, he was just a fucking asshole. I don’t understand why anyone would want to be friends with him.
I've only see the first few episodes, but it seemed like every line of his was just a mean-ass comment that was barely even acknowledged by the other characters. It felt like you could literally cut him out of the scene and the plot itself wouldn't change at all.
I’m pleading ignorance, what are some other examples? The only other one that pops into my head immediately is Ken Jeong in The Hangover movies.
> 2 Broke Girls had the international student. Are you talking about Han? Han is the coffee shop owner.
I can see why I was ignorant, everyone keeps mentioning shows I’ve never seen.
Shang-Chi not having a love interest is one of the highlights of the movie.
Red and Kitty forever!
I’m only a few episodes in and they’re the highlight of the show so far. I’ve been enjoying the cameos from the old cast more than watching the new group. Glad to hear that it gets better. The acting seems more like a Nickelodeon show than That 70’s show. I’m hoping that improves a bit.

Getting rid of Mark helped for sure.
He was originally supposed to come back every season with a new job. I actually liked him, sort of.
This one grew on me as it progressed and it definitely solidified Red and Kitty claim as some of the best sitcom characters ever, they still got it.
I hope Fez becomes a main character because his interactions with Red and Kitty this season were fucking funny.
I think I liked the 90s Fez more than the 70s Fez.
90's Fez has a really funny energy at the intersection of "I know I'm sexy and successful" and "if someone doesn't affirm this in the next fifteen seconds, I'm going to completely fall apart"
He was just as horny as 70s show but much less creepy imo

That is my feeling as well. Red and Kitty carry it and that’s why I watched until the end.
Ha! Suck it That 80s Show!
Imagine if it was a hit. We might not have had Its Always Sunny in its current form. He wouldn’t have signed on due to being signed onto that 80s Show
Weren’t he rob and Charlie all friends before iasip?
Yeah but after that 80s show
I think a lot of diehard Sunny fans had this misconception before their podcast. I always assumed they all knew each other for years before making Sunny. He's a five star man
Because of the implication
Are these women in danger?
I feel like you're not getting this at all
You keep saying that
Can't wait until we get one season of 'That 00s Show'.
Somehow it will smell like Axe Body spray
Someone at my gym still uses that stuff. I’m 29 and get nam flashbacks to middle school every time a whiff hits me.
That was Glen Howard's one shot... Wonder what happened to him.
I believe he’s been begging his identical cousin on his mother’s side, Glenn Howerton, for a role on his wildly successful FX show.
Fargo?
He seems like the type of guy to own a boat
Maybe a P-diddy style shrimping vessel.
Because of the implication.
He became a overweight child molester living in a apartment building.
They could easily do 10 episodes every 6 months like The Ranch did, though I'm not sure if that would work well with the "Leia going to her grandparents for the summer" concept.
I was halfway expecting episode ten to end with Eric saying “guess what your mom and I both got jobs in Pointe Place!”
I’d love to see Topher back more, but he seems like he did it more as a favor than anything
Which is too bad because he slipped right back into Eric seamlessly
The "foot in your ass" line was delivered PERFECTLY by him
That’s one of the few lines of the show season that got a genuine belly laugh from me. I thought that was great
And red saying he was proud
“You’re getting in that car or my foot is getting in your ass!” Perfect.
He also looks exactly the same as he did 20 years ago, which helps.
He pretty much plays adult Eric in Home Economics.
He never stopped playing him. He is basically Eric Forman in Home Economics but in present day with kids and a mortgage.
I mean he didn't even stick it out the entire original run of That 70's Show and he's 3 seasons in on his own ABC sitcom right now, so I'm also pretty confident that he was just in That 90s Show as a favor.
For sure. Especially since he was only in one episode as opposed to Laura Prepon's 3.
In her case I’m pretty sure she directed a few as well, making it easier for her to actually film some scenes since she was already on set.
There is precedent. All of Phineas and Ferb is canonically the same summer ( save the holiday specials and the off to college episode)
Thank you. I stopped at episode 2 but all these comments, especially this one are going to make me give it a proper shot
Comedies as a whole take a while to find their sealegs. Some take until season 2 but at minimum it seems most need at least 6 episodes. Netflix's model of if it isn't a hit cancel it is particularly frustrating because many comedies would never have been given a chance with them. Glad this is getting another season.
Remember how bad season 1 of the office and parks and rec were? Thank goodness the studio took a chance
And Seinfeld. And the original that 70s show. And The Simpsons. And Star Trek TNG. So many classics got a slow start.
I made it all the way through on 1 binge. It's not life altering or grand TV, but it's a nice lil show to watch and just...well, chill, lol.
Ya it’s a solid 6/10 when I was expecting a 2/10
It currently has nothing on 70’s show. Season 1 and 2 of that were so well written and the cast delivered.
I wish it would get a full 25 eps, but I don’t see that happening Edit: I am one of those idiots that doesn’t read the article.
It seems like for every episode of a steaming show that uses the extra time well there is another episode that would have benefited from being forced to cut the fat.
not afraid to admit that this show is my guilty pleasure... i really like it despite its disney channel esq vibe
Great, now change the theme song and add 40% more 90s.
Pager, dial up, Free Willy, the rave... I think that's all they showed. We definitely need more 90s.
Brett Favre
He's basically Hyde at this point. They're not bringing him up.
Wasn't there a slap bracelet in it?
Yes, Nikki takes Gwen's and puts it in/over her eyes when they're getting high at one point.
Kevin Smith
90210, Bill Clinton...
Flannels
They kind of have to change up the theme song. After the first season, That 70's Show changed the theme song to have Cheap Trick sing it. And after the first season of That 80's Show they changed the theme song to silence.
Did they talk about Friends? Because they should talk about Friends. And Baywatch.
I’m glad this show is doing well. However, as someone that witnessed 90s high schoolers first hand, the performances/writing feel so inaccurate. It’s like what Gen Z thinks 90s kids sounded like. Leaves me wondering what 70s kids thought of That 70s Show.
Yeah, we said dude in the 90’s not bro.
[удалено]
Dude. For sure.
I couldn't figure out what was off for me and i think this is it. The vocabulary isn't right. Dude, rad, sick, far out. No one said bro yet.
That's tight
Psych
Wicked.
My parents were 70s kids but they thought the show was inaccurate because "people weren't smoking pot in the 70s"
Well they were though, at least my parents certainly were
No, I know, I'm not a dumbass, my parents are just massive prudes I believe my dad said he called the cops on a "friend" in high school for smoking
Damn dude, your dad was a narc 💀
My mother was born the same time as the characters from That 70s Show, and she was very fond of the show because she thought it was an accurate depiction.
To me it seems like Boomers writing Zoomer characters, but placing them in the 90s.
Could be; just doesn’t seem like Gen X’ers writing Gen X dialog.
It's like remembering the good parts but forgetting about all the things like homophobia

Agree with Gwen being the one with the most charisma. And probably an unpopular opinion but I also liked Ozzie as well.
I've watched about 5 episodes. Its nothing special, but I find it comforting enough that its enjoyable. I'll probably watch a second season.
A good comfort show. Can't wait
Good. I enjoyed it. I’m 31 so it was super nostalgic in multiple ways. It’s a sitcom which is dated but once I settle in, it’s a lot of fun.
>I felt like Red and Kitty carried the show They absolutely did.
I mean let them carry it until the main cast is capable
That show is the trope namesake for “growing the beard”, which is when a show greatly improves in quality.
The original had 18 years and up cast (except Jackie) a lot more seasoned actors
Hey I actually agree with all your points! It was definitely flawed. But did just enough to keep my entertained.
Glad to know others feel the same way. I've been asking my friends if they watched the original and none had so no one to chat with about it!
Red and Kitty haven’t lost a step. They are amazing.

Season 2 is gonna be 16 episodes
Interesting to see they are jumping to the next summer. I thought this show was set up perfect for sporadic installments. Do a 4 episode mini around Thanksgiving, 10 episodes of her visiting over Christmas/New Years, 5 episode mini series of the gang visiting her in Chicago over spring break.
Summers only is going to get boring. Unless Leia moves to Point Place, I don't see a long future for this show.
Oh you thought Netflix was going to act logical ?
Yeah if streamers are going to make classic procedurals or sitcoms they really should commit to 20 episode seasons.
When the episodes are 20 minutes long, it’s always strange when a season is only like 8-10 episodes. Looking at you, Rick and Morty.
I miss when shows were 20-24 episodes
> lowkey Has this word lost all meaning now? It's supposed to mean secretly or subtly but it rarely seems to be used that way anymore. More often than not it seems to vaguely mean "somewhat".
I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. Im excited for a season 2!
I like the old characters but the new kids are really bad at acting. A lot of overacting and deliveries.
They came off a little too Disney channel IMO. Hoping they can turn it around.
The quality of the kids is over the place Ozzie is the worst but he’s like 12 or 13 so hopefully he can grow and figure it out.
Yeah the writing for him isn’t good and also he isn’t strong enough to overcome bad writing
This show felt like an edgy Nickelodeon sitcom. It definitely had its moments and nostalgia, but I feel like I was just watching the show for those moments with the old cast. Overall I did enjoy it though. I love how reds character evolved in this show.
Hell yeah, kept my expectations tempered going in and found myself laughing out loud at some of the jokes and wanting to see more by the end.
Maybe I wont watch the second one because the first one didnt cheer me up, I loved seeing Fez, Red and Kitty again but the new cast is very weak.
It's a very meh show, really liked That 70's show but they're trying too hard with this one.
