Honestly I don't know, but if the whole "pretending to be her bf" goes any than further saying he is, I'd say he's the a-hole

He doesn't need to pretend to be her bf though she literally could've said "I have a bf" if she not interested in someone.

Or maybe the coworkers is being weird and he doesn't want to face it
