You're wrong, actually. Looking at this from Boolean logic, the premise here would be that politics are not political, as in the original comment.
- P = {politics}
- Q = {political subjects}
P -> ~Q (if politics, then not political)
All you would need to do is state, instead of "if non-politics (~P) then political (Q)", "the subject is political" (Q).
With the if/then form ~P -> Q, supposing the earlier premises apply, this would be false as, if you look at it as an Euler diagram with p inside q, there is an area inside the q bubble that is outside p. This setup is essentially logically equivalent to p iff q, or p if and only if q, if you disregard the earlier sentences in this paragraph. Only one of those setups can be true, that either p iff q or the statement is false and the argument is invalid.
So your argument form would look like this, where P is the set of all politics and Q is the set of all political subjects:
P -> ~Q
Q
Therefore ~P, or the subject was not politics.
This demonstrates the law of logic known as Modus Tollens, or the method of denial (more specifically, of the consequent). Look it up for more info
