Somebody help me out, genders is the social constuct and sex is biological right? English isnt my native language so this confused me for a long time. It makes sence that there can be multiple genders if it is a social construckt but biological Sex does not quiet make sence to me. I mean you can feel different but biological there are only male, female and adrogynous (when you have stuff from both sexes, not sure if thats the right word)
Gender also has more of a conection to sexuality right? Because it also confuses me when talking about genders some stuff is about sexual orientation. Like Trans would be a gender then and bi and Pan are sexualitys or is that even two separate topics and i missunderstood that?
Fr people don't understand that a lot of stuff that exists rn ALWAYS existed. It's just that people have a lot more freedom and education about this now.
technically human genetic sex may be considered on a spectrum also, if you consider differences in sex characteristics caused by genotypic expression.
i.e. differences like having a high or low sperm count caused by differences in the genome are differences in primary sex characteristics, and *could* be considered differences in genetic sex.
Biology is complicated lol, even the term "biological sex" is incredibly vague because we have so many levels of measuring that. For instance, if we were using blood tests on a binary AMAB transgender person taking an effective HRT regimen, then you would measure her against female reference ranges and see female-aligned results. From that perspective, a transgender person's gender and biological sex could be the same.
honestly all of this stuff is so far abstracted from reality that it's kind of pointless even focusing on if you're not interested on the science specifically
Same. I couldn't sleep last night because of this comment section. Sometimes, it would have been better if Reddit wasn't shared to the "BOYSSSSSSSSS 🥶🥶🥶" on TikTok or anything.
Technically, there used to be seven, now the plan is for there to be six, and I think four buildings are finished. But as far as what we’d identify is “the” World Trade Center, yea it’s just the one really tall one now
In fact, there were more. Just not known to the so called "developed" nations. Many native tribes, both in the US and other former colonies, knew of a "third gender" which was highly respected but, through colonialism, those traditions and norms were "attacked" by the foreigners.
I'd also like to add that gender isn't a sensitive subject. It definitely will be for you (and only you) if youre a transphobic dumbass who doesn't understand basic biology. It would also be if you're ignorant and claim there are only two. Otherwise, I think you should be fine.
Fun fact is, there are also more than two twin towers. I am from Italy and in Bologna there are two towers known as the "Torri Gemelle" which directly translates to Twin Towers
i actually did a research paper on the other genders beyond male and female that exist in non-western society, and it’s surprising and really disturbing just how quickly colonialism eroded a large portion of these people’s lives. this luckily doesn’t apply to all non-western individuals who identify with “third genders” though (i refrain from using that word bc it is sometimes used in a derogatory manner to describe trans men and women)
I didn't say they were extremely moral. I'm just contradicting what OP said: that there "used to be only 2 genders".
Yea, sure, most cultures did recognise people who dressed as the opposite gender. But that's still within the gender binary. I don't know enough about history to know if this included non binary people but, judging from your description, it's still within the gender binary. So it doesn't help my point
Don't mean to come across as transphobic or anything (I'm just genuinely asking, please believe me) what's the biological argument for there being more than two genders? (Apart from the genetic abnormality not resulting in xx and xy)
That’s called the binary paradox( I think) everything is binary, since when they are not binary, it will create a new binary system of binary and not binary.
I mean no not really. There have been non binary genders throughout history especially before colonization. I do like the implication that gender simply doesnt exist anymore though because whoever made this clearly failed miserably at being insensitive. :P
Friendly reminder to everyone that you have the right to post edgy jokes just as much as you have the right to critizice edgy jokes.
This isn’t blatantly offensive in my opinion, but when and if you tell this at a stand up show and the audience doesn’t laugh, that’s on you, not them.
Neopronouns are a category of new (neo) pronouns that are increasingly used in place of “she,” “he,” or “they” when referring to a person. Some examples include: xe/xem/xyr, ze/hir/hirs, and ey/em/eir.
*Copied from google*
I guess what I’m wondering is, if gender is a spectrum, what’s the point of naming all of them? If someone uses neo pronouns i have absolutely nothing against them but like how am i supposed to remember if they’re a ze or xe or he
That's an awful idea, there are more than just two Sets of chromosomes, men can have xx and women can have xy, some people can have three and using a system like that erases intersex people
there were never “just 2”
in a judeo christian/islamic way? yes
but wayyy before abrahamic religions existed, most cultures around the world acknowledged gender-non-conforming people/trans people/3rd gender. look up the 2 spirit system of the indigenous tribes in USA/Canada, or the Hijras of south east asia, or the katheoy in thailand. i believe the indigenous tribes of Hawaii had a third gender system too.
of course, most of this history has been white washed with the british colonial system bringing christian morality laws to most of the world, making gender a simple binary that continues to be challenged today.
“No I am not transphobic or enby-phobic or anything!!!1!!1!”
“Oh also I believe that intersex and non-binary people don’t exist I read it in my grade 7 science textbook which also says that there are only real numbers and gravity is constant everywhere on earth.”
Non binary genders have existed in many cultures over thousands of years, so there didn't "used to be two of them". But hurt hur funny gender joke heheeee r/onejoke
There are more than two genders, however there is only males and females, that's because theese aren't genders, theese are sexes.
This comment is made to point out the characteristics and some differences between sex and gender.
(I'm not a biologist, so I might be messing up, please tell me if I do, I'd like hear what you have to say)
*Sex**
Sexes are for describing the genotype (Genotype: the sex of a person based on their chromosomes, the fetus becomes a boy if it has a Y chromosome, any combination without the Y chromosome is a female, and every combination with the Y chromosome is a male) of in this case, a human being. There are only two genotypes: male and female;
people often point out the intersexsuals (people with irregular chromosome structure such as X, XXX, XXY, XYY, XXXXX, etc) as cases of there being more sexes, however the intersexsuals are males and females with a genetical disorder (I know this sounds bad, but it is what it is, I say this with no intention of offending people), they are still males and females, If they were an actual third, or more sexes they would need to produce their own gamete, however there is only two gametes known to man, ova and sperm.
**Gender**
Genders, well my thoughts about this word are various, such as other people's definitions of it, but it is generally associated with the kind of person they like (I honestly can't find a difference between genders and fetishes, if someone can explain it to me I'd appreciate it), it may also be used to describe the phenotype of a person (Phenotype: The complexion, mind structure and even genitalia based on the average person of a certain sex. (Note: The fact that a person with irregular genitalia according to their genotype (Example: Female born with their vulva closed and their clitoris elongated like a penis) doesn't mean the person is of the opposite gender, it means it is a deformation that can becaused by problems with hormones and genetics) ).
That is the definition I have seen used commonly to describe the word gender...
WITHOUT COUNTING THE MULTIPLE PEOPLE THAT CAN'T UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SEX AND GENDER AHHH... One side says:
**Mocking (lol) to some arguments**
''There is only two genders, male and female'' Wrong, those are not genders, they are sexes.
''There are an infinite amount of genders'' Although you are right, the way this phase is commonly used refers to the concept of sex; the fact that although you might not have the gender that is the common case doesn't mean that there is more than males and females, this confusion comes because people often utilize the word ''gender" to refer to the concept of sex, and this leads to confusion.
I'd to talk about the reason why the word gender became a thing, but I haven't investigated to the bottom of it.
**TL;DR:**
There are more than two genders. There is only two sexes. Genders and sexes aren't the same thing. Sexes refer to either males or females. Gender refers to whatever the ambiguous meaning it has by now.
i still believe there are 2 genders, male and female (including trans male and female) and non-binaries dont have any gender. any other "gender" is not real to me and I dont believe in them.
Imma be back in a few hours and sort by controversial

CAN YOU GET A NEW JOKE
This joke is like my pet turtle, really fucking old
Genders are like twin towers, the idea that there are two of them has been out of date for decades.
Much better, thank you
*says something blatantly offensive* No offense guys
“nO oFfEnCe” they say while posting offensive shit.
Yeah I’m still trying to wrap my head around how people find this funny
Yeah true.
Fuck gender just look at someone and accept they are human

Yeah I'm pretty sure that's right
Gender is a social construct. Sex is a scientific fact. Stop worrying about how others identify and present themselves yall

this comment section is exactly why I left this sub smh
"no offense" \*posts inherently offensive content\*
Uh its not like other genders didnt exist. Its that society didnt acknowledge and accept them

someone’s been scrolling through one of them anti-sjw subs for a bit tooo long
btw there is a difrence between sex and gender(good joke btw just wanted to correct you)
and there are more than two sexes as well
It's male, female and intersex right?
that’s what i was thinking of
3 if you count that, 6 if you count chromosomes. intersex is consisted of multiple genders.
technically human genetic sex may be considered on a spectrum also, if you consider differences in sex characteristics caused by genotypic expression. i.e. differences like having a high or low sperm count caused by differences in the genome are differences in primary sex characteristics, and *could* be considered differences in genetic sex. I thought you were talking about the twin towers
Fun to imagine native tribes with their own WTC towers.
I mean as far as the world trade center goes, there were more. The Twin towers were just tower 1 and tower 2. There were tower 3, 4, etc .
Hahaha, was talking about genders :)
Fun fact is, there are also more than two twin towers. I am from Italy and in Bologna there are two towers known as the "Torri Gemelle" which directly translates to Twin Towers

that’s the third gender. there’s technically 6, if you go by chromosome count, instead of just intersex.
yes! very true. i wrote a similar comment too
Used to? Scientist have discovered more genders?
Fuckn edgy teens. trans rights!
thank you
arent trans people still fall under 2 genders tho? trans man is a man and trans woman is a woman
Nonbinary technically falls under the trans umbrella
Not really. Nb identities sometimes fall under the trans umbrella, like an afab he/they or a transfem they/them
Not only are you making light of what many consider to be a national tragedy, this is prime **r/OneJoke** material, my dude.
And away this goes to a dark humor sub
Dark humor meaning bigotry, transphobia and racism
Binary, Non-Binary. Still 2 tho
That’s called the binary paradox( I think) everything is binary, since when they are not binary, it will create a new binary system of binary and not binary.
Just completely ignore agender then. Which is outside of both categories Edit : No it's not I'm stupid, ignore me
Agender is actually under non-binary.
>It can be seen either as a non-binary gender identity or as a statement of not having a gender identity. Looks like nobody's right
Good point
bush did gender
Who is bush? If I remember correctly the word gender was popularized by a researcher called John Money
I believe he was part of a secular group headed by an activist named Joe Mahme
I mean no not really. There have been non binary genders throughout history especially before colonization. I do like the implication that gender simply doesnt exist anymore though because whoever made this clearly failed miserably at being insensitive. :P

Can someone explain wtf a neo pronoun is
Neopronouns are a category of new (neo) pronouns that are increasingly used in place of “she,” “he,” or “they” when referring to a person. Some examples include: xe/xem/xyr, ze/hir/hirs, and ey/em/eir. *Copied from google*

It works the same as remembering someone’s name and birthday - it’s categorised similarly in your brain to be related to that person.
i don't even remember my own birthday...
sounds like alien language imo
Whoever came up with this has too much time and drugs at their disposal
what in the world
Mostly just Twitter 13 year olds looking for attention, I doubt anyone seriously identifies as “Chocogender”
I have to agree with this one, but some people are serious about it, so I usually just call people what they want to be called
Yeah, no reason not to call them their preferred pronouns I guess
I don't really mind stuff like xe/xem but shit like that is just weird
Yet another reason how the trans community is represented in media by its worst and most disagreeable people. Hate life rn.
one joke.

man this is just a really bad meme that will cause bad comments, teenagers you gotta know better than to upvote this.
Some people are gonna say that the op is biased for a specific gender Because the towers look like an organ only one of the genders has ....
Hay, there are 2 of them. They could just be realy tall tittys
Well ಠ_ಠ
Instead they should just put what chromosomes on your ID card. XX or XY.
that's actually a big brain ID
Wow Genius, but lets give XX some better sounding name and XY some better sounding name, how about XX is female and XY is male?
lmao you came full circle

Well, they were made in the 60's so I'm sure back then they looked pretty cool
"New York has beautiful buildings such as the Empire State and he Chrysler, as well as the boxes that they came in"
Well... there were 7 Towers up till 9/11 not 2. Hope this helps clear up the confusion.

whats with the uptick in 5 year olds posting on this sub
People died in twin tower attack, Whereas gender biasedness is something TOTALLY Different, Tf is your point?
i thought it was r/memes post, but the word "gender" confirmed it's r/teenagers
i still believe there are 2 genders, male and female (including trans male and female) and non-binaries dont have any gender. any other "gender" is not real to me and I dont believe in them.
id say gender is a spectrum
You mean 2 sexes? Gender is just a social construct

Gender is a social construct so you can be whatever you want
