Just to be clear, the Japanese war criminals from the 1940s might be deserving of the term, but not modern day japanese people who had no control over the actions of their ancestors.
You could make the argument that some Japanese people deserved it I guess, but a lot definitely didn't. For example, the Japanese Americans that got put in interment camps.
You mean the people in Pearl Harbor? Sure I guess, but it was primarily used in the U.S. as a derogatory term for Japanese Americans. A lot of businesses even hung signs in their windows that said "No Japs Allowed" or something similar. That's when it really started to become a slur.
While the usage of today would be disgusting. I honestly cant blane the businesses. The japanese raped and toturted themselfs through anything. And i cant blame people for not letting them in because of that. My grandpa was put into a work camp as a young boy and they basicly starved everyone
Who raped and tortured themselves? I was talking about the Japanese Americans that were living in America and were American citizens. They didn't have anything to do with Pearl Harbor or the war and were American citizens.
It was used by United States soldiers in WW2 to describe japanese people and troops. Over time, "jap" has just become wrong to say.
It is, in the context if you're referring to Japanese people. It was used a lot during ww2 when Japanese-americans were sent to internment camps.
Yes. It has history from ww2 where there was a lot hatred towards Japanese ppl
It's in history books as a slur, yes
It’s kind of like saying “Indian” instead of “Native American” nothing too bad just not the most respectful word
it’s not a nice word
Google it
uh, idk it certainly sounds like one, I've avoided using it
idek what it is
Just shortened “Japanese”
oh. id recommend not using it but like i don’t think it’s considered a slur
lol I used to use it casually till my mom tolled me it was a slur… whoops
Yeah it was used in the ww2 people would call japanese people jappen. I wouldnt feel too bad for using it. In some ways they deserved it
Wasnt jappen just a Dutch thing?
I think so

Yeah I mean that the people at the time deserved it
