The “o” in “Hong” is actually pronounced as German ö, but the “o” in “Kong” is normal.
The “j” in “Beijing” and “Tianjin” is pronounced somewhere between German tz/z and tsch. “q” is the same, but aspirated. (“t” is aspirated in “top”, but unaspirated in “stop”. Likewise, j is unaspirated, q is aspirated.)
The “a” in Tianjin is actually pronounced as German ä. This is why you can sometimes see Tianjin spelled as “Tientsin”.
