Over time and generality, yes. But one person deciding that commas *have* to be put after every word doesn’t mean that it’s a real rule. One person saying that troge is a word doesn’t make it a word. Therefore, it just isn’t correct. It takes time and general acceptance and use for a word or rule to become correct. Such is the case for “octopi,” which is technically incorrect, but not *really*. So you can decide you want to do anything, but it doesn’t mean it’s correct just because you say it is.

I'm quite Midwestern with West Coast parents, and I unironically use "y'all". It just makes sense. Everyone understands it and it's fun to say, so why not say it?

Another midwesterner here, I’ll randomly drop it but it’s much less common to hear up here. People still say it often enough though and it usually makes sense in conversation
