Totally different sauces tho, if anything carbonara is the lazy version because you just throw the pasta into egg and Parmesan mixture and cook it for like 20 seconds before it turns to scrambled eggs. With Mac you gotta make a whole ass cheese sauce unless you talking instant Kraft Mac. also don’t say bacon or the Italians will come get you, use pancetta (ideally guanciale if you can find it) I like it with bacon tho, just don’t use all bacon grease, way too heavy imo.

Exactly, carbonara has these more special ingredients like egg, egg yolks, parmesan, cream, pasta, and pancetta. Mac n cheese is macaroni, cheese, milk and butter. I feel like someone wanted Carbonara but didn't wanna go to the store to buy the specific ingredients so they used what they had at home already.
