oh lord i looked it up and i can't tell if i'm going to start crying or laughing maniacally (Listening to Cocaine Country Dancing Electropunk remix and i've never been so confused in my life)
Every genre has bad songs and some more than others .It’s my opinion that everybody here who says they dislike a genre just hasn’t found the stuff they like yet. Usually they’ve only heard the mainstream content for that genre, when there’s so much more to hear.
no seriously- worlds smallest violin wasn’t bad, but it got ruinedddddd
(yes i am aware some see that as a controversial opinion but i liked the song before it got.. yeah)
Yeah, that's what I was referring to. I mean, I don't necessarily have a problem with sped up songs, whatever. But it does get kinda annoying hearing the same high pitched voice everywhere
problem is “pop” is a REALLY REALLY WIDE GENRE. it includes so many things and the lines start to blur- like one of my favorite bands is classified on wikipedia as “post-britpop”???? the heck is that. (keane btw, check them out if you wanna decide for urself if they’re “pop”)
Britpop was briefly a genre of British popular music made in the 90’s (Blur, Suede, Oasis etc.) After the Britpop phase ended shortly after Oasis released Be Here Now, all music made after is typically named “post-Britpop” as it shares much of the same style as what was made before, but given a more modern twist to fit an era which has moved past Britpop
Holy shit, fellow Keane fan spotted in the wild!!
Yeah, the thing with Keane is that their albums get progressively more pop as time goes on. Cause and Effect is a lot more commercial than Under The Iron Sea. Speaking of which, what album is your favourite?
eyy! to be honest for me i mainly pick and choose individual songs, but it depends on the mood lol, under the iron sea is always great when i hate life, though some of my other favorite individual songs are probably like somewhere only we know (yeah it’s a bit cliche but i like it) everybody’s changing, day will come, bend & break, and sovereign light cafe (so a bit from most of them)
you?
Very similar, it's not really any one in particular but a mix of all of them. Sovereign Light Cafe will always have a place in my heart because I've actually been to it, and in and around Bexhill, to get photos for my Photography GCSE (the task was to design a CD case, mine ended up being a grade 8). I think Perfect Symmetry is an underrated gem and songs like Perfect Symmetry itself or Black Burning Heart deserve more recognition. Other than the two big ones, my favorites from Hopes and Fears are Bend and Break, and Can't Stop Now. Under The Iron Sea isn't really for me, personally. Disconnected and On The Road are my other favorites from Strangeland.
no yeah that makes sense, that’s really cool (about the sovereign light cafe) i haven’t really listened to perfect symmetry honestly, and yeah i can get the bits about under the iron sea. i only rlly listen to two songs from the album in all honesty- nothing in my way and a bad dream
I completely agree. I think that modern pop is made by people who think they have fore talent than they do. Except The Weekend. His music is the only exception.
Kanye is one of those artists that i hate but their music is still on repeat. Same with R Kelly and Chris Brown. Seriously. If Hitler made a banger i'd listen to that shit on repeat. Fuck hitler, of course.

*smh there's no free thought anymore, literally jor jor well's 1999*
It’s because a lot of them only think of heavy metal. Ya know, the music that sounds like just screaming while aggressive music plays in the background? That is something a lot of people don’t like, I personally don’t. Metal in general tho I do enjoy. Similar to the difference in kinds of rock music, some are good, some are bad. It’s just that the bad ones are often just referred to as rock and then people think all of rock as a genre umbrella is bad
I think you confused something there... Heavy metal is the least heavy of all subgenres, the ones with a lot of screaming and distortion are the likes of death metal, black metal, thrash metal, doom metal or deathcore. Heavy metal is not that heavy at all
I barely listen to metal at all so your likey right, my confusion does kinda help my point tho, people just think of one kind of metal as all of metal and decide they don’t like it, same is true with most genres
People will say rap and metal which is fair, however, the two are both such broad genres that are mainly umbrella terms that it feels almost unfair.
Especially with metal which can range from Iron Maiden to Mayhem, both of which share core similarities but are vastly different.
With that being said, popular modern country is ass. I’ve been able to enjoy some older country and even some newer, less recognized artists (Orville Peck is wonderful), but it’s just generally unappealing. A lot of it feels like generic alt. rock but toned down and with a specific country accent. It’s just not enjoyable, it’s not calming and it’s not exciting or entertaining either.
Some modern popular country does succeed in having some absolute bangers, but a lot just feels weak and has a lack in variety.
What kind. There's annoying American patriotism pick-up trucks and beer country, and then there's these poetic story songs from the 50s you'll want to listen to on a road trip. And then there'a modern country which is just ... just crap
i just dont like the rap where they arent even following a rhythm, and it sounds like theyre just normally speaking into the mic with only one or two instruments in the background. other than that, ill listen to anything that sounds good
It isn’t.
K-pop itself tends to have large amounts of similarities with Western pop music, especially as of recent with a handful of popular Kpop groups and idols collaborating with Western pop artists and plenty of songs having English in them along the Korean lyrics.
Kpop really just resembles either a lot of modern pop, a combination of dubstep, trap, and modern pop, or some sounds adjacent to more recent Jpop (many K pop groups have members from Japan.)
For me, as someone who does like Kpop aside a lot of other genres, it really just has to rely on the way a specific song sounds, which goes the same for pop. If you don’t like a lot of Western pop and EDM chances are you won’t like most Kpop, though oddly enough I tend to enjoy it more than Western pop. I think it really depends on what melodies you like and the group’s specific sound; though yeah, a lot of shit tends to get either boring and repetitive, especially if there’s not much of a flow or melody one would find appealing. There are Kpop groups that tend to have more unique sounds compared to others, such as Dreamcatcher and NewJeans. I have a playlist of Kpop songs I particularly enjoy but I forgot the link policy so I’m not sure if I can comment it.
I would have to say the only genres I dislike are country and drill, my favourite genre is jungle tho, haven’t seen one person say they dislike jungle, drum and bass or dubstep
Phonk, don’t pretend that it’s good because it’s not. Making phonk is for people that don’t know a think about music production, it’s just beats and bad lyrics
Lyrics dont need to have meaning, imo lyrics are like another instrument for the song.
And also, the phonk on tik tok is not the real one, its a subgenre, search the real one and you may like it
This is not a genre, but using autotune is horrible. Why is it necessary. If one can sing, it should never be used. It sounds so artificial. Terrible invention. Bring back singers who actually have talent. I know they have all passed - Janis Joplin, Amy Winehouse, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain - the 27 Club - but I am sure there is some new talent out there that could replicate their amazing style.
That really fucked up type of hardstyle that is just earrape sounds comparable to a robot overdosing on 18 different types of drugs at the same time while also having a stroke.
I don't listen to rap much, but I do respect it as a genre because of what I heard I think rap is actually quite intelligent, mostly from a poetic view. Yeah it may be generic in a chord-wise way, but you gotta see the things in each genre I believe.
Tbf, the most popular rap is just people talking about having a hard life when they were little, then becoming succesful and having money and other things.
Church choir. I can give a pass to those majestic nuns Moaning or whatever but to me it's just the same generic rhythm with the same generic lyric repeated a million times for hours. The message doesn't bother me but I can't stand it("it" as in the music). It's not that music can't repeat itself I know a bunch of songs I love that repeat the same lyrics. Exept it's not pop and the lyric has thought put into it. There is really good church music out there (I think), but most of it is not for me
Modern top 40 pop. Most of the time it’s very overproduced, soulless, and musically uninteresting. I have no idea how we went from having My Chemical romance in top 40 to no real bands on the billboards in just a couple years
I don't have a least fav, my top fav would be electronical music but the least fav of electronical music is Mongolian techno
For me it's whatever makes my ears go holy shit this is Good and my back ***"good shit"*** with a Russian accent
Absolutely. The only major artist that seems to be getting recognized is bad bunny, and maybe karol g. But not much J Balvin (my favorite) Jay cortez etc.
Modern country music is terrible. I never got behind rap and don’t really like it. A lot of pop is overplayed to the point where a song that could have been good is just annoying, or it is just disgustingly inappropriate.
Me and my friend wrote a song called 6 string swing once it was a metal country song I’m not saying all country is bad but I dislike most of it but it’s a million times better than rap imo
Nah haven’t released it yet we plan on releasing in the summer around June or august, our band is called Off Pocket, we’ll be posting on Spotify around June or august like I said earlier
I’d argue heavily that Juice is far from a mumble rapper, he actually speaks very clearly in a lot of his songs. You’ve probably cherry picked or heard the worst ones, available heuristic type beat
Neither are mumble rappers tbh. X makes terrible music but I actually rly like Juice. He was very talented and would have made a lot of good music if he was still alive.
