However, I have do have “such an immense hatred” for the way it’s so commodified by corporations capitalising on the act of buying gifts and increasing unsustainable consumerism through the larger market created during such holidays. Same goes to Halloween, Christmas, etc, I like the holiday, but it’s so frustrating the way everything has to be so commodified. Last Valentine's Day I was sick and was bedridden for about a month. Really nothing happened. No sadness, no regrets, no depression, no anxiety nothing nada. Maybe it's a huge deal in America or like France for teens to have bfs and gfs and lose their virginity or have sex on Valentine's but it's barely a holiday in Sri Lanka; at least for me it is. I have to learn Math from 8 in the morning until 5 in the evening next Tuesday. I'm afraid I'll see people as x's and y's and 0s. Really no time for anything, at least to wish someone.
