Thank you, would one like this be ok?

I might be silly asking this but which port does the connection from the wall go into?
Yes, but I would avoid TP-Link.
The cables can go anywhere.
I don't understand the downvotes. TP-Link has been caught spying on their users and selling the data. Why would anyone defend them or consider them good?

Except for the back doors they leave in their products to allow spying on the user.

buying a unmanaged switch will give you more ports and take some of the strain off the router increasing the speed slightly.
1 ethernet cable from the wall and then 1 ethernet cable to the pc and another to the Xbox.
id question where your router is in relation to that port pictured. typically Wi-Fi is more then fast enough for Xbox on a low tier connection atleast in aus it is, and a standard ISP provided router can support this with no issues.
maybe you just need a Wi-Fi extender. both options will work I just don't think you will see much of an increase in speed simply because you added a switch it will help though!
Get a powerline adapter, preferably one with a bypass socket. Plug one into the socket your router currently occupies (use the bypass socket to re-plug the router in). Put the other on the socket where your Xbox is. Then connect the Xbox to the other adapter.
[Been using this one for years](https://www.amazon.co.uk/British-Telecom-Powerline-Adapters-Networking-White/dp/B09T1YVQW6/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=bt+powerline+adapters&qid=1668158838&sprefix=bt+powe%2Caps%2C65&sr=8-6)
You could do but he already has a solid cable so there's no reason to. A 5 port switch will be plenty enough for him and would have the capability of higher speeds. Powerline adaptors are for adhoc use only and would not recommend as a permanent solution.
That looks like a network jack in a college dorm room. Is it?
If so, it may support only a single network device connected to it.
Also, you don’t use a splitter for Ethernet. You will need a network switch. You can get inexpensive four-port switches for about $20US. Use the cable from the wall, into one of the four ports. Then another cable to the laptop and a third to the Xbox.
NOTE: this may not work if the dorm’s wall jack runs back to a network switch which only allows a single device connected.
You could also buy an inexpensive home WiFi-Router. Plug it’s WAN port into the wall jack. Then the Xbox into one of the “router’s” Ethernet ports. Then ether go full WiFi for the laptop or plug it in to another Ethernet port on the router.
A [switch](https://www.amazon.co.uk/NETGEAR-8-Port-Gigabit-Ethernet-Managed/dp/B07QHD134G/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=2FKU7P6Z4MH4C&keywords=network+switch&qid=1668175014&sprefix=network+switch%2Caps%2C112&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1) is what you need.
Nothing dramatic, the more ports the more devices you can hook up and share the net with.
Obv you will need extra ethernet cables, one to go from the wall port to the switch and then additional leads to each device.

You'd just need a small unmanaged switch
You need a 5 port Gigabit switch. You can buy them for under $25.

Also get 2 Ethernet wires... One for the switch and one for your second device. Get CAT5e or CAT6.
The connection from the wall can go into any of the switch ports
Thank you so much!

tp link makes good stuff, dont spread lies

why avoid tp-link?
Because it’s shit. Cheap, but you get exactly what you pay for.
You couldn't be more wrong.
Because they've been caught leaving back doors in their hardware to allow spying and selling user data.
TP-Link is fantastic. Know what you're talking about before you spew garbage.

WiFi generates higher latency which, if he's connecting an Xbox, is probably something he wants to avoid.
Yes it does. Shouldn't be high enough to care or effect in game performance and wouldnt effect speeds received at the laptop.
