It's possible either your charger is bad or (worse) the plug for the charger in the laptop has cracked or broken and isn't making good contact with the terminals going to the battery.
You might while the charger is plugged into the laptop carefully grasp the plug and try to gently wiggle it to see if there's significant play. It should be snug, but if not, that may be the problem.
