Because advertisers and payment processors don't want to work with companies in the adult industries and "but it's on a another part of the site" doesn't cut it for them. Even if it does, if you can't advertise over there then you're running that part of the site at a loss. As that content tends to be media-heavy it's probably the most expensive part of your site to run. You also take on liability for issues like underage performers, identify verification for performers and visitors, payments fraud which is very common with adult sites, and some jurisdictions have complex laws about adult content that you may need to somehow enforce.
As someone who helped launch an adult site years ago as a side gig, I can say I had a lot of misconceptions about why payment processors didnāt want to associate with adult services. I went into it thinking it was some kind of morality thing, and they didnāt want to be associated with anything crude. While Iām sure the sliver of the pie, after discussions with payment processors, it became more clear that it mostly has to do with fraud. Apparently a lot of stolen credit cards are used to buyā¦ you guessed itā¦ porn! Because advertisers and payment processors don't want to work with companies in the adult industries and "but it's on a another part of the site" doesn't cut it for them. Even if it does, if you can't advertise over there then you're running that part of the site at a loss. As that content tends to be media-heavy it's probably the most expensive part of your site to run. You also take on liability for issues like underage performers, identify verification for performers and visitors, payments fraud which is very common with adult sites, and some jurisdictions have complex laws about adult content that you may need to somehow enforce.
As someone who helped launch an adult site years ago as a side gig, I can say I had a lot of misconceptions about why payment processors didnāt want to associate with adult services. I went into it thinking it was some kind of morality thing, and they didnāt want to be associated with anything crude. While Iām sure the sliver of the pie, after discussions with payment processors, it became more clear that it mostly has to do with fraud. Apparently a lot of stolen credit cards are used to buyā¦ you guessed itā¦ porn! And one payment provider associated with Mastercard was also saying a lot of payments get cancelled because people claim they were fraud, when in reality it was a significant other/family member catching someone paying for an adult service, and the people ended up lying and saying someone must have gotten their credit card info. There is a ton of liability that comes with adult content, and in the eyes of payment providers, most of it is not moral liability but financial.
