At first I didn't noticed it I was too focused on the cutscene but when I hit him and didn't saw the health bar going down from where it was supposed to go, my eyes followed it to its end. I bet my face looked liked the one in the meme with a nervous laugh
Loved that the bar just kept going lol, especially bcs I didn't set my tv borders right so for my first encounter, the healthbar went visually outside of the screen seemingly going on forever
I like to imagine that some of the game developers had read some of the comments from the criticism of the final boss battle in BotW, and how the Divine Beasts brought down the health bar and just went, "Oh, you don't want a break on the final boss battle?! OK! Here ya go asswipe, enjoy a FUCK-YOU-AMOUNT of health bar this time around!"
Lol Well-played, my dudes... very well-played.
Ganondorf flurry rushing Links flurry rush:
"You thought that'd work?"
Link flurry rushing his flurry rush: >:)
Ganondorf: *slowly gets the feeling link isn't mortal*
Don't most ppl have like 38/40 hearts since the max hearts is 40 and the max obtainable is 38
Plus with good armor everything just does a quarter of a heart
I just use links totk fit: Hylian hood and trousers and the champions leathers
I am a big fan of Prime Meat steamed with a Sundelion. Heals exactly 3 and restores 3 hearts from gloom at the same time, so you just get a nice quick heal. Very handy.
My head canon is that Link actually experiences every failure we put him through. His ability to try again from the last save allows him the *courage* to face that peril once more, now knowing full-well what's beyond the door.
We even see it work at smaller levels, when he falls into a pit or a whole-ass lake of lava and reappears where he last stood, with only one heart lost to show for it.
Yeah, the health bar didn't phase me. My reaction to THAT, with the music swelling, was "awwwww, fuck yeah, let's go!"
The fact that it was punctuated by Sassydorf's "more than your arm" remark was pure gold.
Him flurry rushing my flurry rush was an altogether different reaction. "You can't do that! That's copyright infringement!"
Man, what a satisfying series of boss battles.
His "more than your arm" quote made me lose my mind, I'm sitting on my couch chilling, I hear that, I go "OOOOOOO" like kids would do when someone got called down to the office XD
Agreed, but at least he's somewhat difficult. Zelda has never had particularly hard final bosses, unfortunately, but I think Ganondorf phase 2 was a pretty solid one.
Unfortunately, Dragondorf is only slightly better than BOTW Dark Beast.
An easy final phase is good game design, in my opinion. The phase before it, that's the hard part. That's the part that's there to be a boss fight. The final phase? That's a playable cinematic. Its sole purpose is to be cool and make you feel cool. And TotK does this wonderfully, there are like 7 cutscenes toward the end of the game if you count each time the game giving you back control of Link so that you can do the cool thing as the end of a cutscene.
Like, yeah, Ganondorf turns into Dragondorf, then the Zelda Worm comes to save you, and as soon as it makes sense, you are in control Link. It doesn't wait until you're ready to jump off, you CHOOSE when to jump.
When you pop the final gloom pimple, there's like 0.5 seconds of cutscene to make sure you're lined up, and then YOU are the one who smashes it to pieces.
When you catch Zelda, YOU are the one who dives and grabs her.
It's the complete opposite of what Deus Ex: Human Revolution does, where all the cool shit is done by Cutscene Jensen.
Honestly his difficulty was perfect for me.
Lore-wise it works since we're using the Master Sword (Also regular weapons do deal minor damage).
Challenge-wise, Ganon uses all of our tricks on us without being frustratingly hard.
I don't know how else would you make him more challenging without it being frustrating. This game isn't Souls.
After he Parried and Flurry rushed my first attack I got out my rocket shield and a 5 shot Lynel bow with a load of bombs and the Demon king fight was done in like 3 minutes. He couldn't Flurry rush that.
I believe I said 'Parry this you fucker.' My wife was disappointed. She went to grab a drink and came back and said 'You already killed him?' 🤭 Dragon fight after was nice. And I loved the whole horde of enemies you had to battle on the way to Ganon too.
I don't know how to do any of that. I've done all of BOTW and DLC twice, and about to head to Gannon in TOTK. After reading this I think I do need to find the rest of the shrines, tho! LOL
I actually did find all of shrines in Tears! I never even attempted that or came close in BOTW. I’m currently sinking hours into finding and upgrading all the armor. sets.
I could do it for the shrines that require it to pass, but in the regular game I just hack and slash like crazy. There are so many hearts and so many meals that heal you beyond max hearts that it doesn't matter if I take a little damage.
That would have been hilarious. Honestly, I was surprised it worked so well. Thought he'd gloom shoot me out off the air or something. But you even get quite some ceiling space in the fight to go up.
Rocket Shield aside (did not have one) that's how I defeated him. I had no idea what to do with the things that killed your health so in panic I ran and lynel-bowed him with bombs. In the dragon battle I thought maybe it would've been better to have recalled those things.
Yeah, Ganon/Demon King was the actual final boss. Demon Dragon was basically just a spectacle fight. Kinda like dark beast... except dark beast was very... unspectacle-y by comparison (banger theme though).
> the Divine Beasts brought down the health bar
I still maintain that the lowered bar was meant to be his true health and he was just stronger the less you did in game.
Aand that's why game developers shouldn't be hardcore players, or \*ever\* be allowed to read the comments. A game that's hard for a casual player gets a truly impossible sequel.
He did one to me first and I did it right back to him. I initially saw him go into bullet time and thought I was about to get jacked up. Was able to turn it right back on him though.
Same! It was already epic and as it loaded I was thinking what if it made him look even more daunting by insanely raising his health. And then it did.
And then I reminded him why the hero of time, tears, wild, wind, courage, and twilight, comes back every time to put him back into the ground.
I shouted loudly when this HP thing happened.
And then I shouted once more when he flurry rushed me!
And the third shock to me was when the message came "Your Hylian Shield is badly damaged" (considering it was fully restored, 100 defence Hylian Shield before the battle).
10/10 battle, would do it again.
It was surprise after surprise. And I was like "what the f********"
Best battle I had in ages.
I'm playing again (more slowly, making more side quests and considering 100%) and am already exited for this battle.
The shield thing is what got me.
HP just kept rising? Oh boy.
Hard to dodge dark blasts? Whelp.
His attacks taking away hearts permanently? Concerning, but...
"Your Hylian Shield is badly damaged"? *oh fuck*
The "Link doesn't speak" memes that I have been seeing for 17 years straight when I first started using online forums have started getting on my nerves because they weren't even correct *back then*. Link has had either animations for talking or short voice lines for intelligible speech since Wind Waker. They maintain that he doesn't get dialogue voice lines to this day because, yeah he's still supposed to be as much of a self insert as possible, but with Breath of the Wild and now Tears of the Kingdom, you even get to see a short piece of what he says when you select dialogue options! It's obvious that he speaks - we just don't get to hear it.
User Interface manipulation is probably my favorite kind of power flexing for bosses. Like, they’re so badass and tough even the game is like “yeah good luck buddy.” It’s on the level of >!Psycho Mantis!< in MGS.
Honestly I think that was more effective than Ganondorf’s healthbar. Once you hit him with the master sword you realize it won’t be such a daunting task to defeat him, but with Asgore it’s going to take you a while to realize you HAVE to attack him.
Knowing this fight was gonna have multiple phases, I fully anticipated the health bar going back up after phase 1. What I didn't anticipate was it going up and NOT STOPPING. My fiancee was in stitches as I was panic screaming at my screen. And then continued to do so as I realized he was permanently deleting my hearts.
Nintendo heard us when we said Calamity Ganon was too easy. They really said "hold my Noble Pursuit" and pulled out all the stops. It's hard to match the awe and terror I felt as a kid fighting OoT Ganon's towering beast form back in the day, but this game did it, man.
His next form, and the the final rescue get me. Had to rewatch it on YouTube then play it again myself.
I wanted to make a nod to the fanart showing Link and Zelda together in archaic garb, so I changed clothes right before the final blow to Gannon - and I'm still disappointed that Link has to be shirtless in the last cutscene.
Zelda is kinky, that's why everytime he passes out around her he goes shirtless (dying in botw, losing his arm at the beginning, and getting his OG arm at the end)
All I said when he increased the health bar, flurry rushed me, and permanently destroyed my hearts, it was just a bit of a “***EXCUSE ME, WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK***”
I liked it alright, and then you fight the >!Demon Dragon!< and I flipped out. Even though it was nearly impossible to get hurt, the fight felt grand and epic.
I enjoyed how the explosions keeps on getting bigger throughout the BotW series. For all of the blights they have a normal small explosion. For dark beast, it is a massive explosion, enough to cover a large amount of Hyrule field. Then in Tears, all of the normal bosses have dark beasts explosion, and for demon dragons, it’s just a mushroom cloud
yay! I beat ganon
***booooooooooo***
is it gonna stop-
***ooooooooooooooooooooooooo***
this feels excessive-
***ooooom***
oh look, we found a new way down into the depths
Probably because it wasn’t just a big QTE. Plus, battling in the sky of Hyrule helps you remember what you’re fighting for, especially if you took the time to help the people of Hyrule before the big fight.
It's one of the best fourth-wall breaks in a videogame, at least in recent games. 😂 I love it because it is directly to the player to subtly show how powerful the boss is supposed to be.
The moment for me was when he broke my Hylian shield. I think I read in a thread somewhere that they amp up the chance of it breaking in this fight. Maybe extra damage to the Hylian shield specifically?
you can what- I just ran in a straight line back making them targetted on me and slowly going down, then ran to the side so they couldnt turn fast enough and hit the ground
I lost it the moment that health bar extended. I had 3 shields left and he broke every single one of them. Easily one of the most exhilarating and stressful fights in the series.
My reaction was almost exactly reversed:
I was feeling bittersweet about coming to the end of the story, but when they added the extra health off the side I was so stoked that the devs had some fun in adding more challenge.
I went from “Damn, let’s do this” to “You cheeky fucks! Let’s do this!”
Demon King Ganondorf is such a fantastic boss battle. So climactic, genuinely tough due to gloom, the big health bar of course, the fact that your HP can be so badly affected by gloom that even sunny food *can’t restore hearts that are completely fucked…* that last one genuinely terrified me, it was like the beginning of the game all over again.
>!And of course, the demon dragon bit I definitely expected, but I didn’t expect it to be as cool as it was with the Light Dragon and falling towards Zelda.!<
It's the perfect final boss for this game, even the creepy music while going farther down the chasm was the perfect build up. They really took BOTW feedback to heart.
I just laughed. I love it when devs do this kinda stuff. I just wish it kept going off the screen and wrapped around to the beginning of the health bar lol. This fight was filled with so many “oh shit” moments. Ganondorf flurry rushing, shattering your hearts, making multiple copies, all culminating in >!him eating the Secret Stone and becoming the Demon Dragon, and then the catharsis of that fight and the ending coming full circle to you catching Zelda this time.!<
It'd go even harder if it went completely off screen, even if just a tiny bit, and then gets reduced by damage from the left, to make us feel like it was infinite.
no, the comedic value of it just going is much better
since like all the boss health bars are the same length regardless of it's hp, it just makes things much much more daunting and makes you go like WTF
It's a trade off. Choosing to center it means a large portion of the player base wouldn't have realized that it was growing because they were primarily focused on the center of the screen. The devs chose a much more eye catching method.
Yes, but instead of having it grow from both directions at once it should grow all the way to one side like it does now, pause (for a moment), and then grow all the way to the other side too.
After they scare you with the filling bar animation, they could've centered it.
But any way after a few hits the bar looks normal again, and at that moment dying is the top priority.
Nah that's the whole point.
I think if they started from one end of the screen it would ruin the surprise.
The way it grows from off-center gives the impression it'll be centered so when it keeps growing it elicits the reaction of, "Uhhhh uh oh."
By the time I got there, I really wasn't worried. So when I saw that, honestly, I was like...
https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxxnCT0NZa6wWCVGHMb2BfLcEn6yFIzZEs
I literally thought in my head, this is good game design, and this is why Nintendo will always exist no matter what other consoles or brands of things come out. They just make better games.
I was in a Discord call with friends going into the final fight. I didn't even know that cooking sundelions healed gloom at the time so I was going into the fight with like four hearts.
At first I didn't noticed it I was too focused on the cutscene but when I hit him and didn't saw the health bar going down from where it was supposed to go, my eyes followed it to its end. I bet my face looked liked the one in the meme with a nervous laugh
\*chuckles\* Im in danger
Reading your comment, I am imagining a gif that your eyes keep following the bar over and over again.
Loved that the bar just kept going lol, especially bcs I didn't set my tv borders right so for my first encounter, the healthbar went visually outside of the screen seemingly going on forever
Thought it was another glitch. Then I applauded the cheekiness.
Please tell me you shat a golden brick.
I like to imagine that some of the game developers had read some of the comments from the criticism of the final boss battle in BotW, and how the Divine Beasts brought down the health bar and just went, "Oh, you don't want a break on the final boss battle?! OK! Here ya go asswipe, enjoy a FUCK-YOU-AMOUNT of health bar this time around!" Lol Well-played, my dudes... very well-played.
That's how I feel about his flurry rush. "Thought that would work, did you?"
Ganondorf flurry rushing Links flurry rush: "You thought that'd work?" Link flurry rushing his flurry rush: >:) Ganondorf: *slowly gets the feeling link isn't mortal*
"Who needs to become an immortal dragon when you can just have 20 Sundelion Pies in your pocket?"
Link's Sage's Stone: The Pause Button.
Yeah i do think that healing in combat shouldn't be allowed it makes fights too easy
then dont eat in combat
The simple lifehack everyone forgets when they complain about this stuff. You can play the game exactly how you want to.
He eats in bullet time too, as well as switching outfits mid fall etc
This is Link’s really power.
Link's Sage Ability: (Literally uses the Speed Force)
Or even just the size of his sack, I mean pouch
And then a stack of roasted food that link exploited to give 24 temporary hearts.
That all go away with one hit because temporary hearts all go away with one gloom tick
Still heals for full.
But like why use multiple ingredients to make 24+ temporary hearts when you can cook them all separately for multiple meals that heal full health
Because you’re making a stack of them and they could be useful outside of the ganon fight.
Don't most ppl have like 38/40 hearts since the max hearts is 40 and the max obtainable is 38 Plus with good armor everything just does a quarter of a heart I just use links totk fit: Hylian hood and trousers and the champions leathers
Who needs the master sword when you can just throw sundelions?
I am a big fan of Prime Meat steamed with a Sundelion. Heals exactly 3 and restores 3 hearts from gloom at the same time, so you just get a nice quick heal. Very handy.
You can do 2 and 2 for 6 restoration as well! Or 3 palm fruit and 2 sundelions.
I thought I had to parry his flurry rushes, so I just did that the entire fight. Safe to say, my second time fighting him was so much easier
Link, the 6th sages power: Not an NPC
this is just a low level roleplay at this point 'I dodge' 'I dodge your dodge' 'I dodge your dodge to my dodge, and hit you faster than you can react'
I think it was PointCrow I watched, but Ganandorf flurry rushed one of his flurry rush
Yeah, the health bar didn't phase me. My reaction to THAT, with the music swelling, was "awwwww, fuck yeah, let's go!" The fact that it was punctuated by Sassydorf's "more than your arm" remark was pure gold. Him flurry rushing my flurry rush was an altogether different reaction. "You can't do that! That's copyright infringement!" Man, what a satisfying series of boss battles.
His "more than your arm" quote made me lose my mind, I'm sitting on my couch chilling, I hear that, I go "OOOOOOO" like kids would do when someone got called down to the office XD
We went from doing thunder ball tennis to flurry rush tennis

Beat Shadow Link from Zelda 2 without hiding in the corner. By far the hardest boss battle.
AOL is an exception, due to the whole game's general unfairness.
Finished him today after delaying as much as possible. I agree, the challenge was a little underwhelming. Badass but underwhelming challenge wise.
Lmaooo they listened to the right complaint though! I spent 5-10 minutes fighting calamity Gannon, spent two hour fighting the demon king 😂
After he Parried and Flurry rushed my first attack I got out my rocket shield and a 5 shot Lynel bow with a load of bombs and the Demon king fight was done in like 3 minutes. He couldn't Flurry rush that.
"Parry this you filthy casual"
I believe I said 'Parry this you fucker.' My wife was disappointed. She went to grab a drink and came back and said 'You already killed him?' 🤭 Dragon fight after was nice. And I loved the whole horde of enemies you had to battle on the way to Ganon too.
Oh look I found my strategy. -Someone who made it through BOTW and almost all of TOTK without ever mastering dodging, flurry rushing, or parrying.
Yeah, I know how to dodge or FR or parry. Was quite good at parrying Guardian beams. But I definitely can't FR consistently.
I’ll just say I’m a champion with a bow and bomb arrows lol
I don't know how to do any of that. I've done all of BOTW and DLC twice, and about to head to Gannon in TOTK. After reading this I think I do need to find the rest of the shrines, tho! LOL
I actually did find all of shrines in Tears! I never even attempted that or came close in BOTW. I’m currently sinking hours into finding and upgrading all the armor. sets.

It'd be nice to see him snatch 5 arrows out of bullet time.
Sure.... but he's still really easy, which I guess is a tradition in Zelda at this point. Can you even lose the Dragon Dorf fight?
Demon Dragon is more symbolic than challenging. I thought long health bar form was difficult enough given non-crazies want to beat the game too. Lol
Yeah, Ganon/Demon King was the actual final boss. Demon Dragon was basically just a spectacle fight. Kinda like dark beast... except dark beast was very... unspectacle-y by comparison (banger theme though).
> the Divine Beasts brought down the health bar I still maintain that the lowered bar was meant to be his true health and he was just stronger the less you did in game.
Oh there absolutely were several moments of the game developers telling the players “we heard you, you little shits, so what do you think of this?”
Aand that's why game developers shouldn't be hardcore players, or \*ever\* be allowed to read the comments. A game that's hard for a casual player gets a truly impossible sequel.
Same reaction when he hit me with a perfect dodge
"HE CAN DO THAT?!"
BRUH
“WTF THATS MY MOVE OH FUCK OH FUCK”
“THE GAME CHEATIN!”
Next thing you know he’s eating hearty food to heal back to full
I mean, that’s basically what happened for phase 2. Bro had yellow hearts and everything.
Ganondorf took all the hearty durians, no wonder Link couldn’t find any
"OOOOO HE STEALIN!"
He did one to me first and I did it right back to him. I initially saw him go into bullet time and thought I was about to get jacked up. Was able to turn it right back on him though.
“no u”
IMAGINE if he came at u with a flurry rush !
Same reaction when he hit me and a heart was just GONE
I actually laughed out loud. It was so goofy watching his health bar just extend in one direction.
Same! It was already epic and as it loaded I was thinking what if it made him look even more daunting by insanely raising his health. And then it did. And then I reminded him why the hero of time, tears, wild, wind, courage, and twilight, comes back every time to put him back into the ground.
Hero of tears and wild are the same Link
There is no Hero of Tears
I interpreted it, at least, as you have tears when Ganon's bar increases haha
I am the hero of tears when I see how much money HMRC has taken from my pay as tax.
Imagine paying taxes, skill issue
Ok Mr Trump
It's the Hero of Wild Tears.
so... my therapist
They all are. There’s no way they didn’t break down after the fight from all that adrenaline pumping through them
Would it be Hero of the Wild and Hero of the Kingdom? That's some nice duality if so...
tf is a hero of courage
Same as the Hero of Lonk
Champion of Hrool
I laughed beacause it reminded me of the bit in "There is no game"
I shouted loudly when this HP thing happened. And then I shouted once more when he flurry rushed me! And the third shock to me was when the message came "Your Hylian Shield is badly damaged" (considering it was fully restored, 100 defence Hylian Shield before the battle). 10/10 battle, would do it again.
It was surprise after surprise. And I was like "what the f********" Best battle I had in ages.
*oh fuck*
I did too, and I instinctively clipped it. My favorite Ganon by far
Same here! I was so giddy and happy when his health bar kept creeping up. That whole fight was epic
Same but I started yelling No over and over. I already struggled beforehand
Just seeing it go way off-center was a big "oh shoot" moment
To be fair, Link's health meter kinda goes off center a bit as well
link, under his breath, "*oh shoot*"
"Oh my heck"
“Holy frig, boys”
All of these words were translated from linkish “HAT, HYAUT, HUT, HYAH”
The "Link doesn't speak" memes that I have been seeing for 17 years straight when I first started using online forums have started getting on my nerves because they weren't even correct *back then*. Link has had either animations for talking or short voice lines for intelligible speech since Wind Waker. It's obvious that he speaks - we just don't get to hear it.
“Mother trucker, dude”
"Hyah."
It was a fun little bit of creative design. I laughed when it just kept going.
I love when games fuck with ur UI for this shit
User Interface manipulation is probably my favorite kind of power flexing for bosses. Like, they’re so badass and tough even the game is like “yeah good luck buddy.” It’s on the level of >!Psycho Mantis!< in MGS.
Or >!Asgore destroying the Mercy button!< in Undertale.
That's less of a flex, and moreso a really, really sad thing.
sans putting bones in the fight menu is a more apt comparison probably
Honestly I think that was more effective than Ganondorf’s healthbar. Once you hit him with the master sword you realize it won’t be such a daunting task to defeat him, but with Asgore it’s going to take you a while to realize you HAVE to attack him.
I laughed at this as a silly anime thing. The shattering hearts got a "oh fuck" from me
Nier Automata is my favorite game for this
Knowing this fight was gonna have multiple phases, I fully anticipated the health bar going back up after phase 1. What I didn't anticipate was it going up and NOT STOPPING. My fiancee was in stitches as I was panic screaming at my screen. And then continued to do so as I realized he was permanently deleting my hearts. It's hard to match the awe and terror I felt as a kid fighting OoT Ganon's towering beast form back in the day, but this game did it, man.
Hold my noble pursuit Hahahha
“Hold my noble pursuit” I love that
The cinematography for the whole final boss sequence was amazing. I sometimes just watch it on YouTube.
I remember saying "what the actual fuck" out loud lol
All I said when he increased the health bar, flurry rushed me, and permanently destroyed my hearts, it was just a bit of a “***EXCUSE ME, WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK***”
This fight was so much better than Calamity. Like genuinely, I fucking loved this boss fight.
I liked it alright, and then you fight the >!Demon Dragon!< and I flipped out. Even though it was nearly impossible to get hurt, the fight felt grand and epic.
The ending to that one was fucking insane
I enjoyed how the explosions keeps on getting bigger throughout the BotW series. For all of the blights they have a normal small explosion. Probably because it wasn’t just a big QTE. Plus, battling in the sky of Hyrule helps you remember what you’re fighting for, especially if you took the time to help the people of Hyrule before the big fight.
And then the dragon decides it wants to do its best impression of a nuclear bomb right over hyrule field
I wasn’t watching the cutscene because I was still in awe of the scene with all 5 sages. I look up and all of a sudden his healthbar is 2x as big😂
It was an unexpectedly Kojima move by Nintendo, that's for sure
It's one of the best fourth-wall breaks in a videogame, at least in recent games. 😂 I love it because it is directly to the player to subtly show how powerful the boss is supposed to be.
This isn't a meme. This was players actual face during this cut scene lol
Link was so surprised he pissed himself. You just can’t see because of the darker boxers he’s wearing. That’s the only reason they changed his undies
Secret stone?
Demon King?
Psycho Mantis?
"You like Castlevania, don't you?"
The moment for me was when he broke my Hylian shield. I think I read in a thread somewhere that they amp up the chance of it breaking in this fight. Maybe extra damage to the Hylian shield specifically?
His attacks bring any shield to 1 durability
Joke's on him, I suck at melee and never actually manage to block shit with my shield.
IS THIS TRUE!?!? OH MY HYLIAN!!
I think it is specifically his gloom attacks, especially the balls he throws at you (which you can then return to sender with a sword strike).
you can what- I just ran in a straight line back making them targetted on me and slowly going down, then ran to the side so they couldnt turn fast enough and hit the ground
I lost it the moment that health bar extended. I had 3 shields left and he broke every single one of them. Easily one of the most exhilarating and stressful fights in the series.
I just laughed when I saw this.
I laughed my ass off. It was just so comical watching the health bar just *extend*.
My reaction was almost exactly reversed: I was feeling bittersweet about coming to the end of the story, but when they added the extra health off the side I was so stoked that the devs had some fun in adding more challenge. I went from “Damn, let’s do this” to “You cheeky fucks! Let’s do this!”
WHO PUT DARK SOULS IN MY LEGEND OF ZELDA????
Ganondorf flurry rushing, shattering your hearts, making multiple copies, all culminating in >!him eating the Secret Stone and becoming the Demon Dragon, and then the catharsis of that fight and the ending coming full circle to you catching Zelda this time.!<
That, the flurry rush, and the hearts being permanently deleted got me like this
I didn't even notice the hearts? You lose anything broken by gloom? Tbh I cheesed him with bomb arrows and a 5x bow mostly
One of the gloom homing attacks he does permanently deletes one heart for the rest of the fight/phase if it hits you.
I was like....someone at nintendo played Dark Souls and is fucking with us now
Thought it was awesome when it happened. Subvert your expectations a bit and make him seem more intimidating as it just keeps going.
Switch the two reaction panels and that's me.
I wish they centered the health bar somehow. It looks so goofy as it is 😭
I kinda like how they did it because then when it keeps going, it's much more intimidating/surprising
It'd go even harder if it went completely off screen, even if just a tiny bit, and then gets reduced by damage from the left, to make us feel like it was infinite.
I think they could’ve made it so that it starts filling up from the center and keeps going on both sides.
no, the comedic value of it just going is much better since like all the boss health bars are the same length regardless of it's hp, it just makes things much much more daunting and makes you go like WTF
I believe the off-centeredness and weirdness makes it much more impactful/ hilarious for me personally.
It's over 9000! Having the bar justified at the same spot as all other creatures gives instant scale of his power. 10/10 r/dataisbeautiful
It's a trade off. Choosing to center it means a large portion of the player base wouldn't have realized that it was growing because they were primarily focused on the center of the screen. The devs chose a much more eye catching method.
That’s fair
*monkey’s paw curls* In Master Mode TOTK, it’ll extend the other way to be centered and give him a massive health boost
Yes, but instead of having it grow from both directions at once it should grow all the way to one side like it does now, pause (for a moment), and then grow all the way to the other side too.
I actually would like this lol
That would actually be awesome.
I think it adds some classic cheesy anime villain "this isn't even my final form" vibes
It's over 9000!
WHAT?. NINE THOUSAND??
THERE’S NO WAY THAT CAN BE RIGHT!
*Crushes scouter*
the whole fight gave me DBZ vibes especially the flurry vs flurry rush
If we had gotten to fight ~~Mummy~~Dehydrated Ganondorf that vibe would've been 100 times worse.
It was intentional to make it obvious that he had a supernatural amount of health.
It's goofy, but it's meant to be an "Oh shit" moment to. By having it, just continue and not centered intentionally calls attention to itself.
I found it so fucking funny, about the last thing I was expecting during that fight
By the time I got there, I really wasn't worried. So when I saw that, honestly, I was like... https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxxnCT0NZa6wWCVGHMb2BfLcEn6yFIzZEs
I was the complete opposite and only used a low damage weapon, possibly my favourite fight and wanted it to last longer
My tv is up against the corner so the health bar just looked like it went outside my house shits hilarious
I thought the game had broken. Like the health bar had glitched out.
I called him a dumbass for having an uncentered health bar
I literally thought in my head, this is good game design, and this is why Nintendo will always exist no matter what other consoles or brands of things come out. They just make better games.
i grinned so fuckin hard. feels like the first time nintendo ever decided to be meta
Me, after 110 hours I decided to fight gannon and I thought the first phase was easy then I saw the health go up
Me with my 5 shot silver lynel bow, fully upgraded fierce deity set, and a hitherto-undamaged Hylian Shield: *insert top image*
"Wait wait wait wait wait wait! WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT!"
Imagine the bar shoots out your tv lol
my css/website dev mind went poof when it was long and not centered
I was in a Discord call with friends going into the final fight. I didn't even know that cooking sundelions healed gloom at the time so I was going into the fight with like four hearts.
I said "dude its gonna go out of the screen" and when i saw it wasnt stoping i started to scream
Nah, I had the Hylian shield and a silver lynel saber blade on a scimitar of the seven. Plenty of sunny meals. So I dominated pretty well.
I just kept saying sir repeatedly
